Give a writer an idea He writes a book Give a child a book You secure knowledge for him With sound knowledge Purpose is achieved
Give an irreproachable woman a house She turns it to a home Give a man a real home He becomes Mr Proverbs
Ask a sage a question He answers in proverbs
Tell a melancholy he is stupid He retains it for years
Give a lunatic a decent clothe He turns it into rags
But give the Messiah a chance He will make you a great man

LiteratureWe Have Lost Our Philosophy by PriscillaGabby(op): 2:06pm On Jun 16, 2015
We tend to speak like them
Act like them
Dress like them
Contemporary Nollywood is a perfect replica of Hollywood
We have completely borrowed everything from the Westerners
Yet claim to have a philosophy
Where is this philosophy found in us?
When we have lost everything that makes us indigenous
Mother Africa cries out
For originality
For nativity
For us
She wants to be heard
In the South
The North
The East
The West
And in the minds of her offsprings
She purely wants her philosophy back

Nollywood these days is nothing far from Hollywood
Funny enough my android keyboard recognizes Hollywood more
We have completely borrowed everything from the Westerners
Yet we claim to have a philosophy

Mother Africa cries out

LiteratureThe Green Eyed Monster by PriscillaGabby(op): 7:12pm On Jun 12, 2015
You who makes one kill his brother
Who makes a husband spy on his wife
Makes a kid drag another away from his mother
Makes a man become diabolic overnight
Makes a teenage girl become anorexic
Forces one to betray a friend
Causes a sex worker to mislead a virgin
Makes even the laziest dude want to make it
THE GREEN EYED MONSTER
All these are your despicable handiwork
You have brought with you murder, suicide,
heartbreak and death
What an obnoxious thing you are
LiteratureHow We Were Converted by PriscillaGabby(op): 7:09pm On Jun 09, 2015
After the chief priest murmured some incantations, he gave each of us a weird gaze for ten minutes. When he finally dropped his gaze,he shook his head, made strange movements which was rather vulgar and barbaric around the shrine. He gave us similar symbols on our foreheads so that the evil spirits will identify and locate us faster.
My friends and I accidentally killed the sacred leopard while hunting. The oracle therefore demanded our heads in return. We were to be taken to the evil forest in twenty-four hours else the entire Umuikpa people will be wiped out. Our relatives cried their eyes out but no solution came.
On that faithful day,we were bound in chains by some muscular men whose machismo coupled with their horrific costume and vibrating breast muscles made them look exactly like the agents of the spirits who were sent to torment our souls until we reach the evil forest. We walked for hours without nothing to quench our taste, neither did manna fall from heaven. We were miserable and pathetic.
On reaching river Oshimiri,we saw some unusual white creatures rowing their boat to the bank. At first I thought they were the evil spirits. Perhaps they couldn't wait any longer before they devour us. But at closer examination, I discovered these creatures looked too beautiful and decent to be evil spirits. They frightened the muscular men away with their guns. We were unbound and fed. We regained our strength. We were liberated because of these missionaries. So we made up our minds saying “Where you go we will go. Your people shall be our people and your God our God"That was how we accepted Christ as our Lord and Saviour. We were delivered and liberated. We were educated. We were saved. We were the first converts from Umuikpa land. Praise be to God.

LiteratureSweet Love by PriscillaGabby(op): 7:45pm On Jun 05, 2015
My heart sings
My head dances to its tune
I am swimming
In the ocean of love

My body tickles
The wind sways my hair
I am walking down
The track of romance

My body quakes
I know this feeling
Sweet lover
Hold me in your sweet embrace

LiteratureThe Pains Of Divorce by PriscillaGabby(op): 12:54am On Jun 05, 2015
I am abashed
At my incapacitated incapacity
To perform my responsibility

My inability to be a supermom
To my child
Disheartens me all day

See what this divorce has done to me
No work for me
No alimony from him
No nothing
LiteratureMan Must Kiss The Dust by PriscillaGabby(op): 3:06pm On Jun 03, 2015
Bustle and hustle
Agree and disagree
Enjoyment in comfort
Discomfort in penury
Man must kiss the dust

Glorious or lowly
Righteous or unrighteous
No matter how magnanimous
Mortals will ever remain mortals
Death is the inevitable thing

LiteratureThe Poor Ruminant by PriscillaGabby(op): 8:12pm On Jun 02, 2015
In the midst of these considerate mortals
I find myself
Weeping bitter tears and conscious of my fate

They are celebrating the birth of The Creator's son
Yet want to terminate The Creator's handiwork
What level of absurdity!
I still marvel at why they are called the higher animals
And why The Creator gave them authority over us

My old man once told me never to question the prudent Creator
Nevertheless I think this is quite unfair

Even as the largest of all ruminants
They have no regards for me
For they treat me with disdain
Hitting me with heavy sticks all over my body
It is not as if I cannot hit back
It is just that I am being enchanted

Even as I lament
They are gathering palm fronds
They want to kill me and set me on fire
Who will save me?
Who will rescue the poor ruminant?

Poems For ReviewLife Is Not Fair by PriscillaGabby(op): 6:41pm On Jun 02, 2015
Folks gnashing their teeth
Deeply overwhelmed
By the gnawing pain of penury
In this woeful life

Unavoidable difficulty
Even in plenty
What can mortals do
Life is not fair at all

As birds make their nests
Do folks make their beds
Under the bridge

Trust me when I tell
Men have seen hell
In this well of horror

Poems For ReviewA Tale Of Woe by PriscillaGabby(op): 8:06am On May 29, 2015
Across the sea is an English man
Who yearns to see his loved ones
He was about to sink into
The slough of despond
When he met loyal soulmate
Whom he rescued from cannibalistic savages

Accompanied with a trained dog
They had an oasis of calm
In the midst of pertinacious pirates,
violence, weirdness, betrayal,formidable events

Back home is his loving wife
Disowned by family
His children plagued by their sympathetic godfather
