The major reason the US refused to sell weapons to Nigeria under Jonathan, and even blocked Israel from selling weapons to Nigeria, was purely out of politics, not because of some gibberish human rights violations excuses.

Immediately the government of Jonathan said it would reduced and convert half of Nigeria's foreign reserves holdings in Dollars to the Chinese Yuan, CNN and its sister's CiA-funded media covens declared WW3 on Jonathan's government. They immediately started publishing outrightly falsified information about human rights violations in the north of the country, when they knew quite well that it was Boko Haram, their pet project that was responsible for most of the killings down the north. They made sure that Jonathan failed to tackle the problem.
