BusinessRe: ATM in Nigeria by Propre(op): 1:32pm On May 25, 2006
@Rottweiler

Leaving the banks alone to run ATM will limit the rate of growth and development of ATM technology in Nigeria, there is also the issue of connectivity i.e. a bank customer being able to use his/her card on another banks network, although this is already happening, it however only happens when a bank shares the same ATM connectivity platform provided by companies interswitch

There is a school of thought that if investors and entrepreneurs are involved in this business they can make ATM more accessible by partnering with Store, café, restaurant hotel, etc owners to install and manage ATM in high human traffic areas like those mention above this will make ATM more accessible and reduce the queue currently being experienced at some ATM locations across the country. This service will of course be at a fee like it happens in the developed world where you have to pay a fee to use certain private ATM and this revenue can then be shared between the investors/entrepreneurs and location owners.

ATM can be used for much more stuff than just taking out cash, for example you can pay your bill at ATM, top up your mobile phone among other things, by getting the private investors/entrepreneurs involved in this concept it with provide an avenue for innovations to ensure ATM use are maximised.

Do you have a different view? Then let’s hear your view.

The use of ATM in Nigeria is growing rapidly, experts are of the opinion banks have no business installing, running and Managing them; could this be a money making venture for budding entrepreneurs who can set up and manage ATM franchise business in Nigeria?

BusinessRe: On Ebay: How to Prevent a Scammer From Bidding On My Auction? by Propre(m): 9:09pm On Oct 11, 2005
"...he would send me Postal orders"

The above send alarm bell ringing; why is he/she offering to pay by Postal order?; I sell on ebay and will ship to Nigeria any day however when you have a bidder wanting to pay by postal order or western Union you need to be careful - 80% of the time it result in fraudulent transaction.

Ebay allows you to cancel any bidding on your item, if you identify a bidder as a person you wouldn't want to sell to, you can cancel his/her bid in ebay control panel (My ebay)

Why set up three ebay account just to buy an item if you are legit? Is IAH the only person selling the same item on ebay?
WebmastersRe: VIP.com Domain Name Sold for $1.4 Million by Propre(m): 9:35am On Sep 28, 2005
Seun, I agree with you that we shouldn't glorify gambling as a means to quick richess however I can't see anything wrong with somebody buying an item for N1 and selling for N10 which is what this guys has done.

He might have speculated when he bought the domain  name that the name might increase in value in say two years  which did; bless him - for him to have 'speculated' on vip.com and not seun.com meant he had forseight which is a good quality of a business man

While I do not encourage gambling; I do not see anything wrong in what this guy has done; bought a domain name when it was cheap and sold to the highest bidder, this is different from gambling or even 'speculation' - it is pure business (demand and supply)
WebmastersRe: VIP.com Domain Name Sold for $1.4 Million by Propre(m): 9:11am On Sep 28, 2005
Business is about taking calculated risks, there isn't anything wrong with this type of business; it's demand and supply - Leisure & Gaming Plc was happy to pay $1.4M and the seller happy to sell for $1.4M

People who deal in stock, buy stock and shares in the hope that the value of their investmnet will appreciate - what is the difference between that and the guy who bought (invested) a domain name for $30 and sell for $1.4M (if it's true)?
Nairaland GeneralRe: 19 Year Old Nigerian Girl in UK Looking for Her Parents in Nigeria by Propre(m): 10:16pm On Sep 27, 2005
If I were in your shoes I will advise the girl to contact her local housing or social service department or better still you can call them on her behalf and explain the situation to them; I am sure they will provide her with temporary accommodation and necessary assistance.

The social service will eventually call in the police; who cares if her old madam gets into trouble, she deserve to haven’t brought in a minor (14 years old) on a false passport to be used  as a maid.

If she doesn’t want her service anymore, she should have sent her back to her parents in Nigeria instead of throwing her out into the autumn cold.

Why help her find her parent anyway; they gave her up at 14 years old to become a house maid – Her best option is to remain in the UK

she doesn't answer her phone when I ring her ... she wouldn't return my call even though I left a message for her to forget about the money; she wouldn't even let me into her flat when I arrived unannounced.
BusinessRe: To Get Legitimate Credit Cards in Nigeria by Propre(m): 9:19am On Sep 27, 2005
Obtaining a credit card in Nigeria is one thing, being able to use the card on the internet is another – for a credit card merchant to accept your card as a form of payment and deliver your goods/services as ordered requires trust; the knowledge or peace of mind that the transaction wouldn’t be charged back.

Nigeria has lost credibility, a browse on eBay will show that Nigerians in Nigeria are specifically being excluded from bidding for fear of fraud, 90% of online merchant wouldn’t sell to Nigerians with a Nigeria address or shipped to Nigeria.

It is nice and a good thing that credit card are now being issued in Nigeria; this is a welcome development, however a lot need to be done by the card issuers in Nigeria and the government in PR to try and redeem Nigeria image domestically and in the international arena before credit card issued in Nigeria on a Nigerian address can be widely accepted by online merchant.

Will you lend your friend money? – share your experience please

Not long ago, a friend of mine whom I’ve known for over 9 years wanted some money to pay for a new flat, I agreed to lend her the money and she promised to pay back in two months; now that it’s time for her to pay back she wouldn’t answer my phone call, the other day I went to her flat even though I knew she was in, she refuses to let me in.

I am less bothered about what she owe me; I value a relationship that has grown over nine years, however each time I called her she thinks I am after the money she owed me; maybe I shouldn’t have lend her the money in the first place – If I hadn’t I would have been letting her down in her time of need.

Have you had similar experience in the past, is it really a good thing to lend your friend money? Why do people borrow money and refuse to pay back even though it is evident they can afford to pay back but choose not to.

Share your experience and thought on this topic please
WebmastersRe: The Million Dollar Homepage idea, by Alex Tew by Propre(op): 9:49am On Sep 26, 2005
Seun,

Thanks for changing the heading; I think yours is more appropriate. I wasn't suggesting that Alex Tew should be taken as role model, the relevance of this is the fact that we should always pursue  our dreams if we believe in it however crazy it might seem; who would have thought he could make money from selling pixels, he believed in his dream, went for it and the rest his history.

Haven said that, Alex hasn't done anything illegal, he arrived at this business strategy as a result of creative thinking and that's what makes people buy the pixels (creativity and ggenuineness read what the British press are saying about him here http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/press.php

I don't know this guy from Adam, I read his story in the British press and went to his website to find out how he did it - he is actually providing a service - driving traffics to his clients website, if you are ffamiliarwith google ad you will know how much it cost to generate/buy traffic to your site
WebmastersThe Million Dollar Homepage idea, by Alex Tew by Propre(op): 8:42pm On Sep 25, 2005
Who want to be a millionaire?

It takes intuition, creative thinking and ingenuity to make millions; Alex Tew, 21 came up with a crazy idea to build a webpage divided it into ten thousand (a block of 100) pixels and sell each for $1 as advertisement space the rest is history; as at the time of writing this he has sold 143,300 pixels = $143,300 within 2 weeks.

"So I had this little idea the other day. I was trying to think of interesting ways to make some cash before going to Uni (which is in about a month's time) and somehow this crazy thought entered my head: I'll try and make a million dollars, by selling 1,000,000 pixels, for $1 each" says Alex

My point:

If you have an idea to make money, no matter how crazy it seems, if you believe in your dream please go for it, may be oneday you will become Alex Tew; there is still a lot of money to be made on the internet folks!
