Good morning, fellow scholars! You're welcome to your classroom today as we discuss the topic, Academic Reading. The IELTS is available in both academic and general training but our focus today is on academic reading. The Academic Reading test assesses a wide range of reading skills including your ability to follow an argument, recognise a writer’s opinion, attitude or purpose. It looks at how well you can read to understand main ideas, details, opinions and implied meanings. Your reading comprehension skills are tested, covering skimming, scanning and reading for detail. The Academic Reading test is made up of 3 long texts which are taken from current books, journals, magazines and newspapers. The texts are related to topics you might face if you were to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level or apply for professional registration in an English-speaking environment. You will have to answer 40 questions in the Academic Reading test. These questions can range from multiple choice to identifying information or a writer’s view, matching headings, features and sentence endings, as well as sentence, summary, note, table and flow-chart completions, and short answer questions. To excel in the IELTS academic reading, you need basic skills like time management (Yes, the passages are very long and the time is limited), a closer look at True, False and not given questions, ability to put ideas together in few words (this will be useful in no-more-than-3-words-only questions) and many more. Many people have succeeded in the past studying alone but a good number of people have also testified to the fact that private tutoring has made their preparation easier. Yes, that's just the question? Does anyone know why Pastor Kunle Ajayi is not ministering at this year's convention? |
Someone may just benefit from this: In case you've tried several recipes and they're not working, please try this, and I assure you, you will come back to testify. Ingredients 1. 500g of plain flour 2. 250g of butter 3. ½ tablespoon of baking powder 4. A pinch of salt 5. ¼ cup/62.5 ml of water 6. 300g of minced meat 7. 1 medium sized onion 8. 2 cubes of seasoning (knorr preferably) 9. Curry and thyme 10. Vegetable oil Utensils • Mixing bowl • Rolling pin • Flat board • Round cutter • Knife Preparation For the filling: 1. Peel the Irish potatoes and scrape the carrots, wash and cut these two into tiny cubes. 2. Wash and slice the onions into tiny pieces. 3. With your cooker set to medium heat, heat the vegetable oil in a pot, add the diced onions and stir for a bit, add the minced meat and stir vigorously till the minced meat turns pale. 4. Add 1 cup of water, Knorr cubes, curry and thyme. Cover the pot and once the contents of the pot starts boiling, add the diced carrots and potatoes and cook till everything is well done. 5. Dissolve 2 tablespoons of plain flour in half cup of cold water and add to the meat pie filling. This tip is so that the meat pie filling does not dry up during baking. It is also what keeps the meat pie filling moist. 6. Add salt to taste, stir the contents and turn off the heat. For the dough: 1. Put the flour in a sizeable bowl; add baking powder and salt. Mix these dry ingredients very well. 2. Use a tablespoon to scoop the margarine in small bits into the bowl of flour. 3. Rub the margarine into the flour till the mix becomes like crumbs. 4. Now, start adding cold water in bits while at the same time folding the mix till a stiff ball of dough is formed. 5. Knead the dough very well, put back in the bowl and leave to rest for 5 to 7 minutes. This makes the dough more elastic. Cutting and folding: 1. Preheat your oven for about 15 mins. 2. Oil your oven tray and set aside. This is so that the undersides of the meat pies do not burn or stick to the tray during baking. 3. Break the egg, beat it and set aside. 4. Knead the dough some more, roll it out to achieve a 5mm thickness. 5. Use a cutter to make round cuts on the rolled out dough. 6. Remove the excess dough, leaving behind the round cuts. 7. Scoop some meat pie filling into the center of the round cuts, the quantity should be such that you can comfortably close the dough without overflows. 8. Rub the egg on the inside edge of the cut meat pie dough. This is to ensure that your meat pie is perfectly sealed and does not open up while it is being baked. 9. Fold one part of the dough to meet the other end and use a fork to press the 2 edges together to close tightly. Place in the oven tray and repeat the previous step till all the cut out dough is in the oven tray 10. Rub the egg on the meat pies. This gives the meat pie a golden brown look when done. 11. Set the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes. This time will depend on the type and heating capacity of your oven.
