WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Y.O.U. First off, the main event rocked my world. This is one of those āgo watch it nowā matches. They delivered something worthy of a spot for a championship. Sorting the women into their respective feuds at the start made sense. It reestablishes beef and adds layers to the match. Roxanne Perez and Blair Davenport went toe to toe in the ring while Kiana James and Gigi Dolin fought outside the ring. They didnāt do this long but I liked the touch. Roxanne easing up on Blair and going after Gigi also demonstrated her newfound aggression and want. She wants her spot back and knows she canāt ask for it, which provides more continuity after her approach to last weekās promo segment where she let her fists talk. If it sounds like Iām focusing on Roxanne a lot more than Kiana, the actual winner, itās because the match centered on Roxanne. She got the big moves, she got the big moments, and nothing moved without her. Gigi Dolin came second on that list, which also makes sense. Gigi wants singles gold, along with proving sheās better off without Jacy Jayne; she needs that championship for validation. And all that is why the eventual outcome soured me a bit. I like Kiana in spurts but Iām not looking forward to her wrestling Tiffany Stratton. Not even a little bit. I love the way Kiana won the match even though I think itās the wrong call. She let Roxanne do the dirty work and snuck in to pick the meat off the bones for the clean pin on Gigi and the win. Brilliant and fits with her character. But, yeah, I donāt have high hopes for this championship match. Besides Kianaās status as the weakest link in this match, and Tiffanyās stagnation as champ, itās heel vs. heel. Iām not rooting for either woman and that always sucks for a championship match. Face vs face has its complications too but I at least like both competitors. This? Not so much. So to recap, Tiffany vs. Kiana might underwhelm technically with little or no emotional investment. That sounds like a mess waiting to happen. B-Sides Pain Pressure Paranoia Carmelo Hayes is feeling it this week. He carried this pressure on his shoulders for a few weeks now but it looks like it finally broke. Melo talked to the Street Profits about this supposed asterisk on his over Ilja Dragunov. He even confronted Trick Williams about it but not for the reason you might think. Rather than blame Trick, he asked his best friend if he thinks he can beat Ilja. Trick hesitated but only because of confusion. He sees no issue and wonders why Melo even acknowledges the whispers and naysayers. But Trickās hesitation preyed on Meloās insecurity. Wes Lee made everything worse when he dropped a video telling Melo that he wants another shot. More importantly, Wes said that Wes beat Wes, and deep down, Melo agrees. We ended the week with Melo watching that video and walking into Shawn Michealsā office without even knocking. Does he want a triple threat? Probably. Is is the best move? Probably not. But much like his North American title run, Melo canāt help himself. Very interesting story and character beats for a guy normally so sure of himself and self-assured. Doubt, especially self-doubt, is a powerful enemy. Let Da Monkey Out While I never like the idea of wrestlers fighting for āreinstatementā getting an entrance music complete with music, I really enjoyed this steel cage match between the Brothers Creed and the Dyad. And they told a fun if slightly predictable story. The execution made it joyous because that always matters at the end of the day. Schism jumped the Creeds during their entrance and took Brutus out of commission. That put Julius vs. Dyad all by his lonesome. Oh, and Joe Gacy locked the cage. Julius held serve and got in some good offense. The man Powerbombed one Dyad member with one hand while locking the other in an ankle lock. Thatās impressive on any level. Juliusā power, speed, and unique offense always makes me ponder him going dolo one day and doing big things. But I digress. No shock when Brutus came back but he switched things up. Rather than fight Joe for the key or ask the ref to unlock the cage, he ripped the door off the hinges. That visual made it a moment. From there, it got academic. The Creeds did what they do, hit big spots, including a double Brutus Bomb, and got their spots back. Poetically, Ivy Nile rejoined her boys while Ava walked away from hers. So weāll see what happens but hell of an opening match. Even if the story that got us here lacked so much in its execution, the match delivered. Loaded Bases I kinda dig the basis of this thing between Dijak and Eddy Thorpe. Itās all about a fight over toughness. Simple and effective for people who fight in tights. Their short match this week delivered on some of that ātough guyā promise but Dijak cheated, hitting Eddy with a a loaded fist. This aināt over yet. I think these two have potential together. A Tour of the Neighborhood Well that was fast. Pete Dunne defeated Charlie Dempsey in the first Global Heritage Invitational Match. Always good seeing Pete back in NXT, and I hope he gets far. Meta-Four sat ringside in the Toxic Lounge section. And on the real, it just made me miss Toxic Attraction! I do like Meta-Four though but just taking the chance to shoutout Toxic Attraction. U Got a Problem? Dana Brooke & Kelani Jordan have a problem. This match started before anyone rang a bell when the Street Profits and The Family caught these four women brawling backstage. Once Kelani found herself all alone after Dana got tossed outside the ring, that spelled the end. Dana screamed a lot after the match, continuing this ānew Danaā thing. They need more subtlety and character though because right now, itās just Dana screaming a lot with little or no reaction from Kelani. Make it matter, especially if they want Kelani to get a buzz from this. Bells of War I enjoyed this Heritage Invitational Match much more than the first one. Nathan Frazer and Joe Coffey present very different styles. And I need that for a tournament like this because everyone canāt be the same type of cat. Thatās why I liked the finish; Joe won and thatās the right call. Nathan getting caught up in a Gallus distraction of his own making gives him a bit of an out and speaks to his overconfidence too. But it also means we wonāt see Nathan vs. Noam Dar, which works completely for me. No diss to either man but letās introduce some new blood into the NXTās Heritage Cup scene. A tournament gives that opportunity along with envisioning different people vs. the champ. Speaking of the champ, heās also got his hands full with Ilja at least somewhat. Meta-Four talked a lot of trash during Iljaās promo and poked their nose into someone elseās business. So as of now, before Ilja gets back to Carmelo Hayes or runs through Noam, he gets Oro Mensah. Really enjoyed the show this week. The shorter matches never outstayed their welcome, the Street Profits teased a match for the NXT tag titles (whereās Lashley?), and we moved several pieces forward. Even got Thea Hail skipping class and going out with Jacy Jayne...Thea doesnāt play a convincing heel yet but sheāll get there. As for the show itself? Very few if any complaints. |

oyaskii: Man do you know that while watching I totally forgot that this was supposed to be a satirical comedy show. These mfukas strung me along and I was even starting to believe the United front bullshit especially when they crowned it with that ritual in the kitchen, I thought it would end like that but man I was so fvcking wrong. Tom and his wife is a prime example of "no put mouth for husband and wife matter" they overlooked him toomuch, even his right hand man Greg didn't have faith in him. I absolutely loved it man and I'd recommend it to anyone anytime. 10/10 peak show. |

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS What Yaāll Want Rhea Ripley said something interesting this week: Finn Balor & Damian Priestās issues make people like Raquel Rodriguez think she is weak. I loved that for a few reasons, and yes, this is where I go into most of them. But chiefly because it established Rhea as the leader and showed how important Judgment Dayās mystique is for their success. But what happens when people think they can test you? It all started with a solid opening match between Damian and Sami Zayn. That fight ended when JD McDonnagh, still keeping his intentions ambiguous, tripped and distracted Sami long enough for a Damian W. Once again, Damian barked on JD for getting in his business. And once again, Damian watched as Sami & Kevin Owens put hands and feet on JD. If I have one complaint here, itās that we did this scene before. But I do believe weāre close to an ending because Rhea basically said so after the match. During another squabble between Finn & Damian, Rhea asserted herself. She not only said the whole thing I referenced up top, but told them both to get it together at Payback or else. See, Damian & Finn stumbled into an Undisputed Tag Team championship match at Payback. KO & Sami later explained itās a Steel City Street Fight because theyāre tired of Judgment Day. Mami warned both men that if they leave Pittsburgh without gold, then heads will roll. Even after both men agreed and vowed that defeating the tag champs is their mission, Damian held up that damn briefcase. He made his position loud and clear: Whether they win those tag titles or not, he always has a shot at walking away with gold. Itās a nice touch that shows no matter how much Damian talks about focusing on Judgment Day business and only on things that matter to their group, he still lords that briefcase over his friend. The Street Fight stipulation opens the door for some JD chicanery and maybe some betrayal from either Finn or Damian. With Damian looking out for himself, whatās stopping him or Finn from ruining their chances at tag gold? Speaking of gold, WWE showed that Rheaās words about all this drama affecting her truly holds weight. She cut a promo on Raquel and the challenger came running. And once again, she got the upper hand on the champ! Rhea retreated after countering Rheaās strength with her own. By Rheaās logic, this doesnāt happen with Judgment Day solidified. I don't foresee Rhea losing her championship but I have no faith in Damian & Finn as a unit or solo. And therein lies the problem. And I really hope we get JDās motivation because itās just too ambiguous for me at the moment. What happens next? I have no idea but canāt wait to find out. B-Sides Breathe Easy Miz cut a damn good promo against LA Knight. The Megastar impersonated Miz last week, so turnabout being what it is, Miz did the same this week. He made his usual points about LA playing for the cheap seats, relying on catchphrases, and slyly called him a Steve Austin ripoff. But it works because of Mizās conviction. The same conviction of which he spoke and juxtaposed with LA, who he says lacks all of that. I do wish we got these two in the ring once more before Payback, but this will suffice. Chairmanās Intent I wondered when Drew McIntyre & Matt Riddle might intervene in this tag match between New Day and the Viking Raiders. During the very solid tag match, the Raiders kept provoking McRiddle (sigh) and eventually went over the edge when they slammed Kofi Kingston into Drew & Matt sitting ringside. Drew launched a freaking chair in the ring, then launched another that accidentally hit Xavier Woods. I questioned how the ref missed all of this and didnāt ring the bell for a DQ, but apparently that matters not. The Viking Raiders won but the real story is everything that transpired outside the ring. Ya know, with people getting hit with chairs. New Day says thereās no beef with Drew over it since they knew it wasnāt intentional, but the big man is still pissed at himself and at the Raiders. Iād be more into this story if it didnāt feel like such a rehash. This is RK-Bro redux and it doesnāt excite me. Proteck Ya Neck II the Zoo On the one hand, Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser wrestled a very solid technical match. That surprises no one at this point. But on the other, we kinda saw this story already: GUNTHER and Chad schedule a match, GUNTHER puts one of his sub-bosses in front of his challenger for a match before the championship match. I give them props for at least giving us a different ending when Giovanni Vinci interfered and the beatdown ensued. But...itās still the same basic thing. While I love Chad and GUNTHER getting it on one more time, especially with GUNTHER setting out with principle on his mind, they can accomplish the same thing without remixing what happened a few weeks ago. In the end, GUNTHER Powerbombed Chad and stood tall. Yes, Chad got him in the ankle lock, but the lasting image is the ending image. Goodnight What I really dig about this thing between Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura is that Shin gets under Rollinsā skin. We got another video promo from the challenger where he got personal. The man promised that after their match, Seth wonāt walk his daughter down the aisle. Then he said night night. Itās just dope work all around, with Seth hitting the necessary notes that make it all stick. Shinsuke sealed it all with a sneak attack that left the champ prone in the ring. It makes me wish they booked this inside of a cage or with some other stipulation that puts Sethās broken back in even more jeopardy. But thatās neither here nor there right now. Uh-Huh Well, that was quite the ending. I liked almost everything Tomasso Ciampa and Bronson Reed did this week. They got physical, Tomasso showcased his insane strength, and Bronson showed his freakish agility. But that ending. Besides the fact that I donāt like a man that big getting beat by a Crucifix Driver. And then the pin itself hit type awkward, making the whole thing seem sillier. This isnāt it for these two. The narrative is that Tomasso āstole one,ā which means Bronson is coming with the get back later. Iām down. When It Hurts So Bad The running theme through this Falls Count Anywhere match between Becky Lynch and Zoey Stark all led back to Trish Stratus. Some might think they overdid just how much they used Trish during this match but it hit the right notes for me. I mean, itās anything goes and sheās at ringside. Why not mess with the woman on her agenda at Payback? But at various times, including the ending, they teased miscommunication and dissension between Zoey & Trish. First, Trish comically threw at chair at Zoey that bounced off her protegeās forehead. Then, when Zoey rescued Trish from a Manhandle Slam from top of what looked like audio equipment, she accidentally punched Trish. Unluckily for Ms. Stratus, a table broke her fall. Becky essentially fought two women here and won. But it expressed just why she needs Trish in a cage and possibly foreshadowed Zoey & Trishās partnership sunsetting. Oh, and letās not forget NXT Womenās champion Tiffany Stratton sitting ringside. She called Becky out recently so putting her there makes sense. I dug this match though, even without the extra story beats. Just chaos and violence between two people who really dislike each other. For a show that really dragged on, this main event put it into another gear. Becky holding her Bray Wyatt armband in hand while crying as the tears rolled really moved me as well. Seeing Becky overcome with emotion summarized the last few days better than any words or tribute ever could. Raw dragged a bit but given the circumstances, thatās understandable. I know the show must go on and all that, but theyāre still human. Given everything around the show, itās a solid effort that raised the stakes for Paybackās big matches. 1 Like |

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS WWE held Friday Night SmackDown this week under the worst of circumstances ā needing to put on a show just one day after Bray Wyatt died, and just two days after Terry Funk died. They went ahead with it, in their honor, and paid tribute to both. Iām still young enough that I missed many of the glory days of Funkās career, but Iām old enough to know he was a certified legend so many of the wrestlers I would come to love looked up to. So many wrestlers today are who they are because they watched/learned from the Funker. Cody Rhodes came to this show to speak on the man and great wrestler he was. May he rest in peace. Itās different with Bray Wyatt. Iāve been here on Nairaland for some of his main roster run with WWE. I wasnāt always the biggest fan of the direction Bray Wyatt took his character, or the stories he was involved in, but the man himself? My oh my, he just grabbed you right away with every bit of who he was and how he presented himself. He looked so damn cool, no matter what form he took, no matter what costume he had on. The way he talked was like no other. That scratchy voice, the way he drew it out, the low whisper he would turn into a growl. Man, he captivated the shit out of me just by speaking. I donāt just mean in character either. I would sometimes watch interviews he did with various media just to listen to him speak. Growing up, I was the emo kid who was all too ready to embrace a character like Bray Wyatt, who called himself the color red in a world full of black and white. Shit like that really spoke to a sad guy like me. Maybe thatās why, as an adult, I felt so drawn to him. I mean it when I say he really grabbed me with just his words, even if they werenāt actually his. It really sucks to think he wonāt be back on my TV, saying something, anything, Iāve never wanted to listen so much. But thatās trivial when considering the pain his loved ones and those who loved him are in right now. My heart aches for them. May he rest in peace. It sure was a pleasure to watch him. The rest of the show -Rey Mysterio defeated Grayson Waller in what turned out to be a really good match, all things considered. Santos Escobar came to his mentorās aid when Austin Theory got himself involved. Mysterio being this good after this many years in the industry and hanging with young guns like Waller is truly incredible. -Iyo Sky defeated Zelina Vega to retain the womenās championship in a decent match that showed flashes of what could be if Sky was simply allowed to do what sheās done everywhere else ā just be a great, dominant wrestler. Instead, they have to constantly play up Damage CTRL on the outside getting involved with every aspect of everything, including cutaway shots to Bayley just standing there looking some kind of way about whatever happened in the ring. Itās starting to feel like a hindrance to Skyās progress in WWE. Maybe itās time to go back to the breakup angle? -The Street Profits and The Brawling Brutes had a āTerry Funk Hardcore Matchā but it wasnāt anywhere near as hardcore as Funk used to be when he was in WWE all those years ago. It was a different time, of course, but still. The only furniture they used was a table Ridge Holland was put through for the finish. The match was much more about Bobby Lashley actually getting involved for the first time, as he hit BUTCH with a spear on the outside while dressed in a suit and some glasses that never came off for said spear. -They put LA Knight in the main event, and had him say a few words about Wyatt. He did a pretty damn good job with it, considering what he was being asked to do. -Knight then wrestled Finn Balor in a fitting main event showcase, considering Balor was The Fiendās first opponent and Knight was his last. Knight won clean with the Blunt Force Trauma in a straight up match, one they pushed as one of the biggest wins in Knightās career in WWE so far. They did wrestling on this show, but it was a night of tribute to Funk and Wyatt and for that reason Iām going to refrain from giving it a grade. With love for all of you, dear readers. 2 Likes 2 Shares |
