Thank you for your response. If I get a new passport, will I send it to IRCC to restamp? Will they do that?

Vikky05:

I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge

1- yes try get a new passport here before travelling if you’re sure it will come out before your travel date because if you don’t stay in province that issue passport in canada, it might be stressful.

2- yes send your new LOA to IRCC. My admission was deferred to May from January and I had to send a copy to IRCC.

Hi everyone,

Please I have two questions

1. My passport has been stamped by IRCC, and I plan on traveling to Canada in the middle of December. My course is a two-year course, my passport expires in November 2023 and IRCC gave me approval till October 2023. Can I still try to get a new passport before traveling? Or should I just wait till I get there? I have a plug that can help me get a new passport in like a week, will I need to send that new one to IRCC again for stamping? Please advice.

2. I was supposed to resume in September 2022 but because ppr came late, my school offered to defer my start date to Jan 2023. Do I need to send the new letter of acceptance to IRCC? Please advise

Hello Guys

Its been quite a while. Just thought to share some insight with us regarding passport renewal. Please if you have a year's validity or less, try and renew your passport before it gets stamped by IRCC upon PPR, so that the duration of you study permit is not limited by the expiration date of your passport (I wish I had known this before my wife travelled, I would have made all effort to renew her passport even though it had a year's validity as at then).

Contrary to popular opinion, it costs a lot (both financially and logistics-wise) to renew your passport in Canada especially if you don't reside within the Ottawa/Montreal general area or close to where the Nigerian High Commission is situated.

You MUST NOT wait for 6 months to the duration of your passport before you can renew it.

Wish all PPR hopefuls all the very best.
