ChokolateBoss: Well done! Indeed ur stupidity knows no bounds. What has all this ur sophistry and straw-man argument got to do with d thread or d person u quoted? At d end of d day, u're only arguing with urself, so d burden of whatever u're trying 2 prove lies on u. I'm sure catholics would agree with pretty much of what u said but ur clogged biased oversaby mindset makes u want 2 talk n argue nonsense.

Lmao! Indeed I can see ur "knowledge" from ur post. So na u get knowledge while d billion plus catholics lack knowledge. Mr na-me-and-my-church-get-knowledge-pass make I clap 4 u: Kpa kpa, kpa kpa kpa, kpa!!!
Indeed u're d self-righteous pharisee here. Now get ur conceited ass and #GTFOH
Oh Lord! When some nairalanders go begin reason well na
Nice topic OP. Threads like dis are good to dispel d urban myth that religion is diametrically opposed to reasoning and science when in actual sense, they go hand in hand. No offense but I think u should edit d first post, its kind of disorganized. Thanks. Which part do you want me to edit. |

ElziLaz: St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the ecology, was a Roman Catholic saint who took the gospel literally by following all Jesus said and did. Francis of Assisi was a poor little man who astounded and inspired the Church by taking the gospel literally—not in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually following all that Jesus said and did, joyfully, without limit and without a mite of self-importance. Serious illness brought the young Francis to see the emptiness of his frolicking life as leader of Assisi's youth. Prayer—lengthy and difficult—led him to a self-emptying like that of Christ, climaxed by embracing a leper he met on the road. It symbolized his complete obedience to what he had heard in prayer: "Francis! Everything you have loved and desired in the flesh it is your duty to despise and hate, if you wish to know my will. And when you have begun this, all that now seems sweet and lovely to you will become intolerable and bitter, but all that you used to avoid will turn itself to great sweetness and exceeding joy."From the cross in the neglected field-chapel of San Damiano, Christ told him, "Francis, go out and build up my house, for it is nearly falling down." Francis became the totally poor and humble workman. Thanks a lot for contributing. |
Politics › Re: Mr President Should Be In GWOZA By Now As GCFR Instead Of Germany.. by QAPHAYNE: 11:59am On Aug 25, 2014 |
Nobleval: Nigeria have myriad of challenges and have tasted her fair share of it in pro efficient leaders and citizens as well. After watching the 52 minute video made by shekau laying claim to a territorial GWOZA caliphate {which almost drained my data}... I have become restless and angered because the military responded shortly after claiming that the claims by the boko haram members are utterly utopian when it is obvious that they have really succeeded in sacking a community that falls under the Nigerian state, when comrades like us continue to oppose the re election of Mr.President next year it sends the wrong signal to my brothers from the southern part of Nigeria. The porosity in Nigeria is undisputable, that some elements in Nigeria have threatened to make Nigeria un governable is one thing, to fulfil that threat is another thing. And for the government to allow those element continue to slaughter innocent Nigerians is the height of disservice on the part of Mr President to Nigeria citizens. l strongly believe that the Nigerian government have the manpower and equipment to decimate boko haram in Nigeria once and for all.. but what I do not understand is why they have decided not to be on top of it making it a priority to secure every part of Nigeria. when the north introduced a very new nomenclature into our polity called Sharia despite the toll of deaths caused by the said Sharia law all Obasanjo did was to distance himself from them the originators of the law which was sized by vagabonds and used it to kill innocent Nigerians at that time. Today the country is ravaged with terror staring on our faces daily and the only thing this current administration can boast of is that they have succeeded in pushing the insurgents to the fringes of the north eastern part of NIGERIA. if north east is no longer part of Nigeria then it is better the Government comes out to tell Nigerians residing there that they are on their own. each time Nigeria is challenged.... as they were last week by boko haram members. I went back to history to review the past leadership before this current administration... if they have had similar challenge and the most disgusting thing is they have continued to make same old mistakes continuously. On the part of sycophancy on Nigerians who even at the advice given by the ministry of health to avoid large gatherings because of the threat posed by the ebola virus have continued to form nonsensical non governmental organisations, holding unity rally for the return of mr president for the second time. I advice you all to put more effort in forming pressure groups that will make public office holders work round the clock to deliver on the promises they made to Nigerians. if all this political jobbers looking for contract will put in the effort they have so far given to campaign for MR PRESIDENT in demanding for good governance I guess mr president will be in GWOZA by now as GCFR instead of Germany cooling off from pressure associated with being president all we ask for is good governance are we asking too much? The guys health required attention. You want him dead? Haba, he is GCFR doesn't mean he should appear any where a pistol is fired he has generals for conscience sakes. |

Olamilekan08: Hmmm.. From the stories of Copernicus and Galileo that i've come across anywhere, he didnt publish his work for the fear of being persecuted by the church, because then, the church believe in the earth being the centre of the universe. And we all know what happen to those who oppose the church then. This is the first time i am seeing this. Yeah probably why he must have been doubly scared as a priest he must have observed ist hand the persecution of deviants |

His role in ending the cold war and communism in Europe.
His giant strides in improving the Catholic Church's relations with Judaism, Islam, the Eastern Orthodox Church , and the Anglican Communion
I believe he left the world better than he met it His tenure was messed in so much controversy, from gay bishops, to paedophillic priests, to money laundering. |

Please let's also add:
GABRIELLE FALLOPIO: was perhaps the most outstanding and versatile of 16th century Italian anatomists. Even though he died of pulmonary tubercolosis, he was the first to fully explain primary dentition. He was the first to describe a condom, even though it was for syphillis protection. The fallopian tube was named after him.

Pals permit me to add:
NICHOLAS STENO: the father of geology his methods are still used to routinely identify sedimentary rocks. Steno believed in a literal global Flood and other aspects of Genesis1:1-11, such as the 6,000-year timeframe. He also used the Bible to interpret his geological findings, which he found were totally consistent with Noah's Flood.
While many use science to dismiss GOD, it is important to note the role of christain faith in the positive advancement of science, in stenos words: 'One sins against the majesty of God by being unwilling to look into nature's own works

10) St PAUL: Of all the apostles, St Paul can perhaps be given the greatest credit for the Christianization of the West. It was his victory in a dispute with St Peter over whether or not to require gentile converts to submit to ancient Jewish practices that made the Christian life more appealing to the citizens of the Roman Empire and beyond. Were it not for his declaring that circumcision (amongst other practices) were not necessary for conversion, the Church would unlikely have spread with the rapidity that it did in its infancy. Furthermore, St Paul’s writing on the behavior of married couples and the structure of the family remain influential for many people today (though not as much as it did up to the 1960s).
