I look in on this thread occasionally. I see it's received some attention lately. My curiosity stems from it being at least three years since the OP started the thread. Perhaps they've had a couple of kids. Maybe ended up with separate partners. She perhaps married the said "bestman". Perhaps some totally unforeseen outcome took hold of things. How exactly did it all go? You kinda owe it to the house. Spill!

Haha. I will spill. No I did not marry her.
The best man issue was a screaming red flag and other issues came to the forefront.

The pattern was the same. She had selfish tendencies and always had to have her way.

Anyway, we split. That was a whole lifetime ago! - 15 years!
RomanceShe Wants To Pick The Best Man by Quser(op): 6:16am On Jun 26, 2010
I have never posted here, but I need some opinions.
I met my girl some years ago. We have had our ups and down, but finally I proposed to her recently,
The only problem is that she wants to pick the best man. She said this guy was her best friend for a long time,
they went to school together and still keep in touch,  she had promised him he was going be her best even before she met me.

Naturally, I was apprehensive, because its the place of the groom to pick his best man; but she insisted that this would really make
her happy and even suggested I pick the bridesmaid. When I declined she got really angry and when I asked why this was such a big deal,
she got so defensive and vehemently angry.

Dont get me wrong, she is a very decent person and we love each other so much. I find it really strange that this should be a big deal, but I
also silently wonder if i am over reacting.

What do you guys think? Is this a common practice? Am I just being old fashioned?

Growing up we had a large poultry farm. We often kept a few special birds for our own consumption and each bird had a special name.
One day a friend came visiting and he answered the phone. You can imagine the consternation on his face when my mum left this message
"please ask them to kill the big rasheedi, we are having guests on Sunday"
