I agree to some extent that you cannot easily learn the language before you get to Norway. The best way of learning a language is surrounding yourself with speakers.

And I also disagree that you cannot fully learn it until you arrive Norway. When I got here, two people testified about a lady that learnt Norwegian before arriving here. I got to meet her last month and she said she learnt it to a degree she could make herself understood and to a very good extent understand people all under 9 months.

Let me share a story. I went for an interview just 7 days I arrived here and after a smooth exercise, the Norwegian said it was unfortunate he couldn't hire me despite he being interested in my skill set but me not speaking the language made him reach the conclusion to not offer me the job. He then advised I take my time to learn the language and get used to the system.

When you get here, the locals will tell you to take your time. Unless you have all the money in the world and can afford to not work. Then you may take your time. But If you are like me who slightly regrets not making the move to leave Nigeria at a younger age and now has a family to take care of, you won't take your time. You have to hit the ground running.

If you are student and at the same time have to work alongside your studies, the 2 years you estimated might turn out to be prolonged. As the stress of daily life might prevent you from mixing with Norwegian speakers.

You won't realize the seriousness of this language matter until you get here.

For all of you advising him to take up the offer, I will advise him not to take it if he does not feel comfortable with it. We here know Norway is a great country but its not a country for everyone. Jobs are difficult to get not to talk of professional jobs. Hence people use it as a transit country.

When I left Nigeria for Norway, a friend of mine also left for UK at the same time and he got a job after one week (even though it was not a professional job) while I was still searching for a job without success. Since I had a family to feed and was under financial stress, i had no choice but to start searching for any job and that still proved difficult. Eventually I got something to do and my financial stress ended but it was initially tough.

A lady also on this thread got admission to study the same course as my wife but she turned it down and headed to the UK with her family. Her husband and her were able to get basic jobs early.

A Ghanian friend I have in Stavanger has a job with Schlumberger waiting for him in Italy but he his reluctant to leave Norway and is trying his best to get a job but its been difficult.

Getting a professional job in Norway is difficult after studies as our names, colour and inability to speak Norwegian is a disadvantage.

So my friend, go to an english speaking country if you do not feel comfortable with Norway.

Norway is not everyone's destiny! Although It is one of the best countries in the world with a system better than America or England but getting a job is difficult unlike those english speaking countries.

Norway or English speaking country?? The main thing is leaving Nigeria for a western country!!
Cool Write up, you really nailed it.
Norway is really difficult in terms of Job hunting as a foreigner most especially in populated cities or counties like Stavanger, Oslo, Bergen and Drammen etc.
You might get lucky working menial or Blue- collar jobs as a Student or whatever
Less populated cities found in Trondelag counties have better chances of job opportunities than populated cities.
Norway is extremely expensive, I repeat extremely expensive.
In all one should always be positive

Nigeria the most dumbest and ignorant people in the world.

I can bet my balls that people would still vote for her despite her irresponsible attitude.

Nigeria wise up, this is 21st century. Time isn't on our side. The rest of the world have advanced and still advancing.
Leaving us behind.

Imagine voting same person over and over but this time in different position.
Political office shouldn't be reserved for just some few people.

It's not a dynasty or an empire. Where one person would be ruling for as long as it takes.

Buhari has been elected 3rd time now( I think). He never performed well in his previous tenures nor did he now.

But how we keep recycling this old cargoes everytime is still a mistery to me.

Nigeria matter tire me ooo
Op pls save the little strength you got ok.
Nigerians love suffering, No matter how much you advise or Lament it won't change anything.
Coming 2023 I see Danger, calamity and Terror.
Nigerians will never learn, always Suffering and be Smiling.
Spits
Buhari pro-Max is coming soon

Really a Fan of Iceland.
Iceland is a beautiful country with lot of opportunities for both Skilled and Unskilled workers/Migrants.
Less population and Abundant job opportunities in urban and Rural areas of Iceland.
Considering its high salaries, alot of Eastern Europeans migrants elope to that region for a better life.
Since Iceland embassy isn't found in Nigeria
Is there anyway or idea one can be able to escape these Hell-Hole of a Nation...
ICELAND is my first and Best option in terms of Migration.....
