President Trump: Border wall emergency challenged by California, 15 other states California and 15 other US states sued President Donald Trump’s administration Monday over his decision to declare a national emergency to fund a wall on the southern border with Mexico, saying the move violated the constitution. Trump announced the emergency Friday in order to bypass Congress, which approved only a quarter of the $5.6 billion he wanted for the wall in a spending bill. But the lawsuit, filed in a federal court in California, said the president’s order was contrary to the constitution’s presentment and appropriations clauses, which outline legislative procedures and define Congress as the final arbiter of public funds, respectively. http://bet9jah..com/2019/02/national-emergency-california-15-other.html

Grief-stricken Nigerian community in South Africa has confirmed the vicious killing of two members in that country within 48 hours barely a month after President Jacob Zuma was honoured by the Imo Government. In October, a Nigerian man was shot dead in South Africa over an alleged 300 Rand (about N7,500) parking lot debt. No fewer than 116 Nigerians have been dispatched to their early graves in the country through extra-judicial means in the last two years, according to Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa. A dependable source close to the Nigerian community told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone from Johannesburg on Tuesday that the first victim, Ikechukwu Mmanwoke Edmond, 40, was killed on Nov. 11. The source said the deceased, a businessman and native of Ihembosi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra, was killed in front of his house on Amant Street, Malvern, Johannesburg. It quoted an eyewitness and neighbour of Ikechukwu, Sibongile as saying that six men came to their house and started breaking doors and taking out their personal effects. “When she (Sibongile) raised alarm, they started beating her. When Ikechukwu came in and saw what was happening, he brought out his phone to call the police. “A member of the gang took a brick and hit him in the face and he fell down. When the police arrived, he was already dead,” the source said. According to the source, police said they have commenced “investigation’’ into the death of the businessman. The second victim, Eluka Agu, native of Ihiala also from Anambra, was allegedly robbed and then beaten by some South Africans at Oliven, Centurion on Monday (Nov. 13). The said the police came and took him away to his house for a search. “The victim pleaded with the police to take him to the hospital for treatment but they refused. “After searching his house without finding anything, he died as a result of the severe beating’’. As usual, the Nigerian community in the area which expressed worry about the incidents, had vowed to take up the matter with “appropriate authorities’’, the source added. http://bet9jah..com.ng/2017/11/nigerians-killed-in-south-africa-in-48.html

More than 200 people are believed to have died in underground tunnels after a collapse at North Korea’s Punggye-ri nuclear facility. The test site was reportedly badly shaken by the aftermath of the country’s sixth nuclear test, a 100-kiloton hydrogen bomb roughly seven times more powerful than the atomic bomb the U.S. dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. The U.S. may be preparing to put nuclear-armed bombers on 24-hour alert, something which has not been done since the end of the Cold War in 1991, amid escalating tensions with North Korea. According to U.S. media reports, the decision that would see several B-52s ready for take-off has not been made yet, and would be a general response rather than a reaction to a specific event, the U.S. Defence One website reported Sunday, citing Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. The World Health Organisation has revealed that 7,000 children die everyday. According to the organisation, every day in 2016, 15 000 children died before their fifth birthday, 46% of them – or 7 000 babies – died in the first 28 days of life, according to a new UN report. Levels and Trends in Child Mortality 2017, reveals that although the number of children dying before the age of five is at a new low– 5.6 million in 2016, compared with nearly 9.9 million in 2000 – the proportion of under-five deaths in the newborn period has increased from 41% to 46% during the same period. “The lives of 50 million children under-five have been saved since 2000, a testament to the serious commitment by governments and development partners to tackle preventable child deaths,” said UNICEF Chief of Health, Stefan Swartling Peterson. “But unless we do more to stop babies from dying the day they are born, or days after their birth, this progress will remain incomplete. We have the knowledge and technologies that are required – we just need to take them where they are most needed.” At current trends, 60 million children will die before their fifth birthday between 2017 and 2030, half of them newborns, according to the report released by UNICEF, the World Health Organization, the World Bank and the Population Division of UNDESA which make up the Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (IGME). Nearly six months after being found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her Georgia home — and a month after being moved to hospice — Bobbi Kristina Brown, the only child of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, has died at the age of 22. The Associated Press reported her death on Sunday night. "Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July 26, 2015, surrounded by her family," a rep for the Houston family said. "She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months." Bobbi Kristina was discovered by friend Max Lomas and the man she referred to as her husband, Nick Gordon, on Jan. 31, and was transferred to an Atlanta-area hospital. Though no drugs were found at her home when medics arrived, a criminal investigation was eventually opened; however, no arrests have been made. Upon arrival at the hospital, she continued breathing with the aid of a ventilator as friends and relatives flocked by her side. Within days, she had very little brain activity and was moved to Emory University Hospital, which is considered a top facility for neurological problems. For weeks, conflicting reports surfaced about Bobbi Kristina's progress and the severity of her condition, all while she was still in a medically induced coma. However, on Feb. 10 the Brown family felt the need to speak out and address stories that claimed she would be taken off of life support the following day on the third anniversary of her mother's death. Related: A Timeline of Bobbi Kristina Brown's Life Doctors eventually removed her breathing tube, allowing Brown to be ventilated through a hole in her throat, but she suffered a major setback when her medical team attempted to take her off medications and rouse her from her coma. Bobbi Kristina had violent seizures and had to be placed back on the drugs. In March, she was relocated to a rehabilitation center. At the time, her grandmother Cissy Houston told Entertainment Tonight, "I'd like to thank everybody who was praying. Who really knows the worth of prayer and I'm sure it'll get through. I'm just waiting for whatever happens. We go to the hospital every day and pray and I talk to her because she can still hear and I rub her hand," she said. "We do what we can do. These are the priorities for us. Whoever had a hand in causing my daughter's injuries needs to be brought to justice." Days later, on June 24, her aunt, Pat Houston, released a statement on behalf of the entire family announcing that they had made the decision to move Bobbi Kristina into hospice care. "Despite the great medical care at numerous facilities, Bobbi Kristina Brown’s condition has continued to deteriorate. As of today, she has been moved into hospice care. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Finance Minister Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Nigeria’s former minister of finance said on Tuesday night that the $2 billion she was alleged to have withdrawn from Excess Crude Account without authorisation was used to pay for fuel subsidy on the instruction of former President Goodluck Jonathan. She however said the issue was discussed at the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), a statutory body which is chaired by the Minister of State for Finance in which all the states are represented. The former Minister however said FAAC did not approve the withdrawal. It will be recalled that Nigerian state governors had after the inauguration of the National Economic Council about two weeks ago accused Okonjo-Iweala of spending $2 billion from the ECA, a pool of funds which belonged to the three tiers of government. Adams Oshiomole, the governor of Edo state told journalists that there has been a depletion in the funds from $4.1 billion as at November 2014 to $2.1 billion, even when there was no authorisation for any withdrawal from the funds known to state chief executives. The governors had subsequently set up a committee made up of four of their members to investigate the withdrawals. “Payments made were used for paying for petroleum subsidies for the Nigerian people and were approved by Mr President,” Iweala said in a statement issued by Paul Nwaibuikwu, her media assistant. “Therefore there is no question of mismanaging any resources here,” she added Okonjo-Iweala also said FAAC did not approve such expenditures, but “that all these expenditures were discussed at FAAC meetings attended by Finance Commissioners from the 36 states.” source:http://bet9jah..com/2015/07/jonathan-ordered-me-to-withdraw-2bn.html

People gather at the site of suicide bomb attack at Redeem Christian church in Potiskum, Nigeria, Sunday, July 5, 2015. (AP Photo/Adamu Adamu) JOS, (AP) — Two bombs blamed on the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram exploded at a crowded mosque and an elite Muslim restaurant in Nigeria’s central city of Jos, killing 44 people, officials said Monday. Sixty-seven other people were wounded in the attacks Sunday night and were being treated at hospitals, said National Emergency Management Agency coordinator Abdussalam Mohammed. The explosion at the Yantaya Mosque came as leading cleric Sani Yahaya of the Jama’atu Izalatul Bidia organization, which preaches peaceful co-existence of all religions, was addressing a crowd during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to survivors who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals. Another bomb exploded at Shagalinku, a restaurant patronized by state governors and other elite politicians seeking specialties from Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north. Jos is a hotspot for violent religious confrontations, located in the center of the country where Nigeria’s majority Muslim north and mainly Christian south collide. The city has been targeted in the past by bomb blasts claimed by Boko Haram extremists that have killed hundreds of people. Sunday’s attacks are the latest in a string blamed on Boko Haram that have killed more than 200 people over the past week in northeast Nigeria. The extremists returned Sunday to northeastern villages attacked three days earlier, killing nine villagers and burning down 32 churches and about 300 homes, said Stephen Apagu, chairman of a vigilante self-defense group in Borno state’s Askira-Uba local government area. He said the vigilantes killed three militants. Boko Haram took over a large swath of northeastern Nigeria last year and stepped up cross-border raids. A multinational army from Nigeria and its neighbors forced the militants out of towns, but bombings and village attacks increased in recent weeks, apparently in response to an Islamic State group order for more mayhem during Ramadan. Boko Haram became the Islamic State group’s West Africa franchise earlier this year. source: http://www.fkstradingltd.com/2015/07/over-40-killed-in-twin-blast-in-jos.html

Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase Four members of the robbery gang that raided two banks in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on 24 June, have been arrested, the police claimed. The gang had robbed First Bank and a new generation at Ogolonto and carted away huge sums of money. The police in Lagos in the aftermath of the public outrage triggered by the robbery and the manner of escape via the Ikorodu lagoon, offered a N5 million reward for information. Scene of the bank robbery in Ikorodu But no sooner after the robbery, one of the suspects ran into a military checkpoint on the Sagamu-Benin expressway. He was on his way to Okitipupa. But after the soldiers found in his bag bundles of crisp naira notes, still wrapped in CBN nylon, he was promptly arrested. The soldiers alerted the Lagos command on the development. The Lagos Command under Kayode Aderanti raced to pick the suspect. Further interrogation led to the arrest of three other members of the gang. There is certainly more work to be done as witnesses had said the gang members were about 12, led by a young woman, with an estimated age of 20. source:http://www.fkstradingltd.com/2015/07/police-arrest-ikorodu-bank-robbers.html

AFP/AFP/File – File picture shows an ambulance evacuating people injured in a suicide blast in the northeastern Nigerian city of Potiskum on February 1, 2015 A suicide bomber blew himself up on Sunday inside a church in the restive northeastern Nigerian city of Potiskum, killing five worshippers, a police officer and witness told AFP. The bomber entered the uncompleted Redeemed Christian Church of God at 9:55 am in the Jigawa area on the outskirts of the city in Yobe state and detonated his explosives, killing the worshippers, including a woman and her two children as well as the pastor, they said. “Four worshippers died instantly while the fifth victim gave up shortly after she was taken to hospital,” a police officer involved in the evacuation told AFP. “The victims included a woman and her two children, the pastor and another worshipper,” added the officer who spoke on condition of anonymity. Witness Garba Manu told AFP the bomber arrived at the church on a motorised rickshaw disguised as a worshipper and detonated his explosives as soon as he entered the church. “I saw when the bomber alighting from a motorised rickshaw and entering the church and as soon as he entered a loud explosion ripped through the church which is under construction,” he said. “I saw him walked into the church and he didn’t raise any suspicion. Five worshippers, including three females and two males were in the church when the bomber entered and they were all killed,” he added. “The dismembered body of the bomber was also recovered,” said Manu, who lives in the area. There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Potiskum, the commercial capital of Yobe state, has been hit repeatedly by Boko Haram Islamists in their six-year insurgency, including by suicide bombers. The insurgents have also launched a series of attacks on mosques, villages and markets in neighbouring Borno state in the past few days, claiming more than 200 lives. Boko Haram are keen to prove they are not a spent force despite a four-nation military offensive that has run them out of captured towns and villages since February this year. The use of improvised explosive devices and suicide bombings has increased since May 29 when President Muhammadu Buhari took office vowing to crush the rebellion. According to an AFP tally, at least 654 people have lost their lives since that date. source:http://www.fkstradingltd.com/2015/07/breaking-suicide-bomber-kills-five-in.html
