Trauma Of Being A Poet In Nigeria: What Writers Rarely Talk About

Poet in Nigeria

Poetry seems to be the easiest ways to perceive the world in a different stance, to express feelings and emotions with words, to narrate heartbreaks, and one of the most fancy ways of being exotic with words.

Being a writer and a poet in Nigeria, however comes with numerous challenges, one that appear to be traumatic at times.

Few of the things a poet in Nigeria has to face are plagiarism, low-publicity and appreciation of works, more competitions, little or no-recognition of a poet in Nigeria with alternatively leads to few Nigerian organized poetry contest.

Plagiarism for poets in Nigeria seems to be the one that surfaces most and this has led to many writers and poet in Nigeria to publish less of their works online and and on social platforms. A poet in Nigeria nowadays, prefers a publication in an online magazine, where it appears to be more protected and free from any other person from acclaiming to be the original owner.

The issue of copyright in a stance among Poets in Nigeria, seems vague, absent as plagiarism thrives daily due to ineffective ways of having their works protected. An average poet in Nigeria, especially the tagged "Facebook Poet" and "Instagram Poet", ordinarily believes that his works are protected once the © are added underneath his works. Whereas, his works is far from not being plagiarized.

Little or no recognition of a poet in Nigeria sometimes affects the mental confidence of few writers and poets. Most seek recognition and appreciation of their works. At times, deny themselves opportunity, not bearing in mind that the writers world is like an ocean wide enough for every fish to dive, dine and survive.

7 Easy Ways On How To Earn Money Online As A Freelance Writer In 2021

Do you want to be a professional writer? Get published and earn enough money to pay your bills and do everything you'd want to use money for!

That's cool right?

That means you'll have to write thousands of words for some months, edit, re-edit and it might even be more stressful to get published sometimes. While you do all this, don't you think you should have something you should be doing that will earn you some cash before that?

Don't get me wrong, getting published is literally the greatest thing or one the best thing to achieve as a writer.

But until then, with freelancing, you'll be able to take care of your bills while you write your books at the same time.

Working as a freelance writer gives you chances at many opportunities that can positively affect your career as a writer

Working as a freelance writer has even become more easier and profitable, as the world has gone digital considering the social media and many ways you can reach for prospective clients online.

Hence, the question! How do I make money writing online?

This article will give you some interesting answers that might help in your career as a freelance writer.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY WRITING ONLINE
There are many ways you can earn money online as a freelance writer, there are many launched platforms you can get prospective clients from. And also, there are many cool cash you can make from this.

And also, you don't need a professional skill to become a freelance writer, all that's needed is the basic skill of writing.

Things to do:

Create A Blog/ Website

Starting a blog is a prerequisite for every writer. It's one of the best platforms to reach out to your audience and your clients to you in return, as well gets your online presence noticed.

Creating a blog is even more easier these days. With the use of WordPress, wix, blogger you can create a self hosted blog and earn from it.

Every blog needs an about us and contact us pages for your clients and prospective advertisers to easily reach you. The most interesting part is that you can even do affiliate marketing and earn in return.

There are many ways you can earn money through your blogs. You can earn money from ads, affiliate marketing, ghostwriting— by giving your contact out on your blog and putting a "hire me" on your blog posts.

Also, you can put up a "donate button" on the sidebar of your blog.

So, think of your blog as your online platform to try monetization strategies as well as support your online writing business at the same time.

Pitch A Guest Post

Pitching a guest post for blogs is one of the easiest ways to earn money online as freelance writers.

Guest posting is when your articles or blog post is published on someone's blog. While you might get paid for this by some blogs, some might not. Hence, it's better to get more details about the blog before pitching them for guest post. Find out if they pay contributors or writers on their blogs.

Ways you can get your guest post easily accepted is by familiarizing yourself with the blogs contents, posts structures and submission guidelines.

There are some platforms, too like FreelancerFAQs which is a contributors blog. From there you can easily get blog owners who are willing to pay you in exchange for your post on their blogs.

Also, on Accessily, you'll have a list of webmasters, content marketers that you can pitch or those that are willing to hire content writers for their blog posts. On Accessily, you'll have to create an account and as soon as you get paid, it'll reflect on the earning board. Once you reach the minimum payouts, you can cash out from it.

But the question. How do you get blogs that pay for guest post? Search for "guest posting" on search engines like Google for more ideas on it.

One thing to have in mind tho, don't switch post topic once you are already approved by the blog owners to write article for them. This is important!

Creating A Gig On Freelancing Online Platform

There are many platforms you can get clients from by creating gigs.

Online platforms like Fiverr, upwork, Freelancers. With these platforms, you can create your gigs, state the things you can do, the payment and other information about you and what you intend to provide if hired.

Chimamanda Adichie Reveals Why She Stopped Attending Catholic Churches In Nigeria

The Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie, has revealed why she stopped attending Catholic churches in Nigeria. Chimamanda is one of the most celebrated writers in Nigeria, and few months ago she released a short story titled, zikora after many years of such release. Here is a biography of Chimamanda

She spoke in a recent Bounce Radio interview with media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. During the interview, the 43-year-old writer comfessed that she does not attend Catholic churches in Nigeria because the activities in the churches became “way too much” about money, fundraising, and thanksgiving.

According to Chimamanda,

“Nigerian Catholicism is way too much about money, fundraising, and thanksgiving. Some in the east even look at who’s wearing gold. I think the focus of religion should be things Nigerian Catholicism doesn’t focus on,”

The 43-year-old writer, said she still considers herself a Catholic nominally, said she only attends Catholic masses outside the country whenever she finds a “progressive” Catholic community that upholds humanity.

“I grew up Catholic. Catholicism was very important to me. It‘s almost like a culture, not just a religion. So even if you leave the Catholic Church, it’s in you. Today, I don’t like to talk about religion because I don’t know,”

“I think of myself as agnostic and questioning. Catholicism holds you tight. There are many other protestant denominations that are not so. It’s all-inclusive. ‘You cannot eat before mass. You have to go to confession.’

“There are so many rules. It teaches you guilt in a way that I don’t think so many protestant denominations do. I’m Catholic, nominally. I still feel protective of some things about the Catholic Church. But I don’t attend it in Nigeria.”

Trivalence Media: A Nigeria Media Company Launches Platform Website Owners Can Hire Freelance Writers
Lanre Writer

Trivalence Media (TRC), a media company in Nigeria, has launched an online platform, Lanre Writer, for website owners in Africa to hire freelance writers.

Lanre Writers is hoped to be a freelancing platform just like Fiverr, Freelancers and Upworks, but Lanre Writers is created specifically for writers and not other freelancers in other walks. This was launched to foster more quicker connection between freelancers and their prospective clients.

Trivalence Media is a media publishing company specialised in news publishing, online software publication, media consultancy, and related media businesses.

Trivalence Media during the official launch noted that there is a need for a platform like Lanre Writer (www.lanrewriter.com) during a time like this that there is a dearth of competent writers.

According to the company, Lanre Writer will provide interested clients with competent writers who can handle writing tasks such as press release, blog content, news writing, resume/cover letter, fictional write-up (e.g novel), product review, among others, provided “it is anything related to minting words”.

“Our writers are screened to ensure we present only the best to our clients. Before they sign up they are made to take a test that assesses their grammar, composition and expression,” TRC said.

“We also make it easier for our clients to hire in three (3) easy steps.
To start on Lanre Writers, follow the simple steps below.

Post your job(s)
Check out submitted proposals to choose your preferred writer(s).

“Our customer representatives are always on ground to guard new clients throughout the process.”

Speaking on the cost of hiring a writer on the platform, the company said; “In as much as we expect the best payment for our writers, we also make sure our clients get the best for their money”.

When asked how they source for their writers, Tivalence Media said; “most of our writers are recommended by writers already on the platform.

“We designed the platform in such a way that there will be no discrimination. All writers, both old and new have equal chances of landing a gig.

“Before they are allowed on the platform, they must pass our Writer Test Drive. All of the task they tackle in the test are similar to works they will be handling from clients.”
