TravelLagos Slams Restriction On Ikorodu Road by RationalTV(op): 9:47am On Sep 22, 2017
Lagos State Government has declared a two-night restriction of vehicular movement on Ikorodu road.
It explained that this was to enable works on the dilapidated steel footbridge at Fadeyi Bus Stop.
The days declared are September 23 between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. and September 24 between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Permanent Secretary, Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Olujimi Hotonu, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.
He noted that the decision to replace the bridge became imperative to protect the lives of pedestrians on the highway.
“There will be partial restriction of movement on Ikorodu road. The purpose is to rehabilitate the steel foot bridge at Fadeyi Bus Stop with a new foot bridge.
“The entire foot bridge would be overhauled, while the disused pedestrian bridge would be pulled down to give way for a new one worthy of the status of the state.
“The main carriage lanes will be shut for two consecutive nights while the service lanes will be open to traffic. All traffic both inward Lagos and outward Ojota will be diverted to the service lanes,” Hotonu said.
The official urged all motorists and road users plying the corridor to cooperate and support the state government and observe all the precaution signs on the road while the reconstruction is on-going.
The permanent secretary added that the state government had already put in place effective traffic management strategies “to manage the traffic during the period of closure.”
Hotonu said the notice of partial restriction of the road became expedient “to enlighten motorists and other road users to utilise alternative routes to avoid delay as well as obey traffic officers deployed on the road to ease movement.”

PoliticsBiafra: IPOB May Stop Igbos From Producing Nigeria’s President – Okorocha by RationalTV(op): 9:30am On Sep 22, 2017
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has stated that the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra will affect the chances of Igbos to produce Nigeria’s president.

According to him, the agitators had every right to complain about marginalization and not a call for separation from the country.
He told newsmen on Thursday that IPOB was not good for the South East, and it was not the best way for them to complain about marginalisation to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said, “There are better ways; the IPOB way is too primitive. If IPOB must do a thing like that it should have changed the name and fought the way Ijaw youths fought, Arewa youths fought, and they would have made more impact. For everything that comes from the Igbo man, we love to go to the extreme.

“Now you want to separate yourself from Nigeria, meanwhile, South-South will not go with you, Edo, Rivers will not go with you. If you cut us off here now as South east, if I need to go to Rivers State, I will go and ask for passport and visa, and we are keeping quiet to say this.
“If there is a crisis now, there is no Hausa man in Igbo land who has a duplex, there is no Yoruba man who has a room and parlour or a N20 million investment in Igbo land, but Igbo have trillions of naira virtually everywhere.

“The same people are asking for secession. If Igbo are asked to go, what happens? They would lose their property, and all of us are keeping quiet, supporting IPOB! It was very childish, and those behind this should stop, that is my advice.

“South-South has produced the president, South-West has produced a president and Vice President, the north has produced many presidents, it is hoping that one day in the next shift, by whatever arrangement, the next people that should be considered is the South-East by Nigeria’s sharing formula.
“So, where are we in our wisdom and the intelligence? That is my position on IPOB; my advice is that Igbo should change their style and condemn IPOB in a manner that should be done and let us flow with the rest of Nigeria for now because we shall benefit more than anyone else.”

PoliticsYouths Behind Nigeria’s Problem – Ortom by RationalTV(op): 9:08am On Sep 22, 2017
Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has blamed youth unemployment for the various agitations across Nigeria, especially by the now proscribed IPOB.
Ortom said this in an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday.
He said, “I think that this agitation that we are talking about, if you look at the majority of the people that are visibly seen from the Biafran agitation that has now been proscribed; you discover that they are mainly youths.
“Youths are all over the place. If you hear what the Arewa coalition did, they are still youths. To me, I think that it is lack of employment. And it’s a very big challenge we have to contend with.
“I have known that even before I started campaigning to be governor even as governor, what troubles me every day is how to surmount this challenge.
“I feel that this agitation and all these problems, threats from here and there are coming as a result of not engaging these youths because the hand that is idle becomes the devil’s workshop.
“I think that we must concentrate our efforts at the local government, state and federal levels to ensure that we engage our youths.”

“I don’t have a definite word on that yet. But I know that tomorrow he is going to have lunch with the American President, he is going to meet with the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Tomorrow is Wednesday. Maybe on Thursday, in the early hours, he has some things to do.

CrimeKeystone Bank Staff Charged With ‘theft’ Of N3m From ATM by RationalTV(op): 1:50pm On Sep 19, 2017
The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti-Yaba, Lagos on Monday charged a Keystone Bank Plc worker, Mrs. Chinonye Okafoagu, for allegedly stealing N3 million from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

Okafoagu, 33, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate A. O. Salawu of an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, on a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, forgery and false modification of ATM data.

The police, in a charge marked, N/73/2017, alleged that the banker and others now at large, committed the offence on March 7, last year, at the FESTAC branch of the bank.

The defendant allegedly, without lawful authority, modified the ATM’s data and stopped the machine from dispensing money, “in a bid to steal the N3m.”
Police said the Keystone Bank staff misrepresented herself as, Elizabeth, the woman authorised to handle the bank’s ATM on the said date, and appended her signature in the ATM loading staff register, which she presented to the bank’s management.

The alleged offences contravene and are punishable under sections 409, 285(7), 389(1), and 365(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Okafoagu pleaded not guilty, The Nation reports.
Chief Magistrate Salawu granted her N500,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned till September 25.

PoliticsPythons Don’t Dance, Crocodile Can Never Smile – Abati Slams Nigerian Military by RationalTV(op): 1:43pm On Sep 19, 2017
Reuben Abati, former spokesman to immediate past president, Goodlcuk Jonathan, slammed the Nigerian military over its operation code names.
Abati said army’s operation code-names such as: Operation Python Dance, Crocodile Smile were wrong because a python does not dance neither does a crocodile smile.
In an article entitled, ‘Python Do Not Dance,’ the former presidential spokesman noted that the Nigerian military has never been so clever in coming up with operation code names.
He wrote, “Many of them are dead give-aways (Operation Lafiya Dole, Operation Pulo Shield, Operation Maximum Safety, Operation Crackdown) or so stupidly incongruous they evoke instant suspicion (Operation Python Dance, Operation Crocodile Smile). Pythons don’t dance. Crocodiles don’t smile.
“Wars have been fought over the use of wrong codes; nations have been sabotaged due to poor communication. Whoever came up with the code name – Operation Python Dance- (sometimes a code name may be computer generated) may have been aiming for irony, but it was strange irony given the facts of the situation and the manner of operation. I make this point to argue that the Nigerian military has messed up Operation Python Dance II in the South East conceptually and operationally, and the attendant arrogance does not serve the Nigerian state well in my view.
“A dance is accompanied by music, it is celebratory in its kinetic and spatial expressions, and it is probably one of the most ingenuous explorations of the human frame. Accompanied usually by music and the symbolism of movement and flexibility, a dance, vertical, horizontal or earth-bound is one of the wonders of human creativity and the most universal of human languages.
“There is something called snake dance. It is of course celebratory. To say a python is coming to a community to dance is a revelatory oxymoron. A python swallows, it cuts off blood, constricts and suffocates, it is a pretentious animal that curls itself up when it is ready to eat, and then strikes, employing the techniques of velocity, ambush and surprise.
“In December 2016, the pythons of the Nigerian military went to the South East on Operation (I) but they did not blow their cover. They said they wanted to help reduce crimes during Christmas. In September 2017, they blew their own cover, and revealed the absurdity of their cryptonym. They did because they behaved exactly like pythons. If that was meant as a covert operation to protect the sovereignty of the country in the face of “seen and analysed threat levels” in the South East, the Nigerian military got it terribly wrong. There is every reason for other military authorities in the international community to laugh at Nigeria.
“The military admittedly can conduct routine exercises to prepare its men, to tune up or to check out the country’s territorial integrity. Before and even shortly after the civil war, Nigerian soldiers occasionally came out of their barracks and drove round the town. They used to sing, march on the streets and dance inside their trucks and wave at the people. The people waved back, and in due course, many children mastered some of their songs. In our neck of the woods at the time, there is an Alamala barracks in Abeokuta, one popular song was: J’amala n si ko, mo ti j’amala ki n to lo s’ogun, j’amala n siko”.
“The latest instance is the bungled operation in Abia State. Operation Python Dance II did not have to take place in the streets of Isiama Afara in Umuahia, Abia State, close to Nnamdi Kanu’s father’s house. The public show of force could have been done anywhere else in the South East. Strutting military force close to the home of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, who in the last year has been busy mobilizing his people, and making demands on the Nigerian state is an undisguised act of provocation with all the pythonic elements of invasion, surprise and suffocation. It was the equivalent of the state descending to the level of rabble-rousing. This happens when an institution like the military opts for street politics, and our military certainly exposed itself in ways that called its professionalism to question in the last few days.”

PoliticsForfeiture Of Funds: Court Fixes Date To Hear Patience Jonathan’s Appeal by RationalTV(op): 3:45pm On Sep 18, 2017
The Court of Appeal in Lagos has fixed November 3 to hear the appeal filed byMrsPatience Jonathan, seeking to stop the permanent forfeiture of $5.7 million to the Federal Government.
The appeal arose from an order obtained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 26, from a Federal High Court in Lagos, temporarily forfeiting the funds to the government.
The EFCC had told Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, who gave the order, that the funds were suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.
.
The judge had also ordered the temporary forfeiture of the sum of N2,421,953,522.78 found in an Ecobank Nigeria Ltd account numbered 2022000760 in the name of “La Wari Furniture and Baths Limited”, which the EFCC said was linked to the former first lady.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, Mrs Jonathan filed an appeal against the ruling, asking that the order be vacated.
On July 12, proceedings, however, were stalled as one of the judges of a three-man panel of the Appellate Court said he was recusing himself from hearing the appeal for what he said were personal reasons.
Justice John Ikyeh, who presided over the appeal alongside Justices Abimbola Obaseki-Adejumo and Abrahim Georgewill, had noted that three judges were required to form a quorum but did not say which of the justices was withdrawing.
Counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, then urged the court to consider hearing the appeal as early as possible, preferably during the annual court vacation.
At the resumed hearing of the matter today (Monday), the Appellate Court granted a prayer by Mrs Jonathan, seeking to amend her notice of appeal and file additional grounds of appeal.
The court also directed lawyer representing La Wari Furniture and Baths Limited, Mr Mike Ozekhome, to file a separate notice of appeal for his client within 48 hours.
The order was sequel to the striking out of the name of La Wari Furniture and Baths Limited from the main appeal filed by Mrs Jonathan.
The court had earlier granted leave to the company to appeal against the decision of the lower court.

PoliticsWike To Close Schools Owned By Igbos, Northerners In APC – Party Alleges by RationalTV(op):
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers has warned Governor Nyesom Wike not to proceed with his planned closure of over 5,000 private schools in the State, saying, “the consequences for the state would be grave”.
The party issued the warning in a statement signed by the State Chairman, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.
Rivers APC said: “We have been reliably informed that Governor Wike has concluded plans to close down over 5,000 private schools by this October.”
“The offence of the proprietors of these schools, both indigenes and non-indigenes (mostly of Igbo and Northern extradition) is that they are members of APC, so they must be ruined by declaring their educational institutions, which they have been operating all these years without any problem, illegal and marked for destruction.”
The statement alleged that the recent dissolution of the State Executive Council by Wike was as a result of the dissenting opinions expressed by some cabinet members who cautioned the governor against the closure but rather advised that the State should embark on a holistic approach to standardise the operations and facility upgrade of the affected schools.
“Governor Wike accused those against his evil plot of being fifth columnists (or APC men in PDP garb) and resolved that the best strategy is to tactically dissolve his cabinet and reconstitute it with those who will support his drive to deal with these APC sympathisers,” Rivers APC said.
The party advised Wike to rethink “his absurd decision as the punitive action would throw over 40,000 small and medium school owners, teachers and education support services providers in the State would be thrown into the already-saturated job market.”
“The road to this has been long in coming. He has found allies in men who do not have idea of the implications on the future of Rivers State. Wike in his satanic politics never considered the plight that these proprietors, their employees and students will face in implementing this drive aimed at putting APC where it belongs, according to him.
“Wike has done enough damage to the educational sector in Rivers State and should refrain from any action that would make Rivers one of the most educational disadvantaged states in the country.
“It is sad to note that apart from not putting the 300 modern model schools constructed and fully equipped by former Governor Chibuike Amaechi into use, Wike has stopped the scholarship scheme instituted and sacked the 13,350 teachers employed by the Amaechi administration. By so doing, Wike has put the Rivers State educational sector into serious jeopardy.
“Wike has become a demi-god who does not take the advice of his associates, elders, traditional and religious leaders. Even so, we beg him in the spirit of humanity to try to call himself to order and restrain himself from this satanic attack against innocent men and women who are promoting the educational and economic fortunes of the State through their educational entrepreneurship.”
Rivers APC appealed to all those who because of believing in the party are suffering in the hands of Wike to exercise patience “as we are convinced that God will not allow our dear State to remain for long in the hands of those who are determined to kill the future of our children and send most of our people into the labour market and to early death.”
Governor Wike’s spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu could not be reached for comment.
Wike is also yet to appoint a Commissioner for Information as the newly sworn-in designates are yet to get portfolios.

PoliticsBiafra:we Are Ready To Confront Nigerian Military, We Will Defend Our People-bng by RationalTV(op): 12:48pm On Sep 18, 2017
The Biafra National Guard, BNG, has declared that the Nigerian military can “go to hell” because it would defend people of the South East.
BNG made the declaration while faulting the decision of the Nigerian Military to declare the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as a terrorist group.
Reacting to the declaration, BNG stated that it would not be blackmailed by the terrorist tag, stressing that Biafra will be restored.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Major Nkuma and sent to DAILY POST, BNG maintained that it is not a terrorist group, adding that Nigerian government is a “big joke” for making such declaration.
According to the statement, “Nigerian government can be rest assured of self-defense” because it would “never retreat or surrender till death lift our hands.”
The statement reads, “It did not come as a surprise to Biafra National Guard that Buhari through Nigerian military declared IPOB a terrorist organization. Let us remind Nigerian establishment and Britain that IPOB is not a group or organization- IPOB is the people of Old Eastern region and having declared IPOB a terrorist organization, it implies that every Biafran is a terrorist.
“It is sad that we found ourselves in a country we are considered species of terror and a country we have no right to ask for self-rule. We the Biafra National Guard believe that the declaration is the end of the road for all Indigenous People of Biafra who have been peacefully clamoring for referendum. The big question remains; are we going to watch them implement the genocide they just declared?
“It is important to clearly state that Biafra National Guard has been in existence for years and was not formed recently as claimed by Nigerian military and it is an independent self-defense group; primarily saddled with the responsibility of defending old Easterners’ as enshrined in 2007 UN charter on the rights of Indigenous People.
“IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is the mother of all pro-Biafra groups and as such, all pro-Biafra activists are Indigenous People of Biafra. The Biafra National Guard is Indigenous but clearly independent and doesn’t subscribe to the peaceful strategy of IPOB but fully endorsed, and respects IPOB because it is Biafra people’s wish.
“Biafra National Guard is not likely to take orders from IPOB because IPOB is peaceful unless they decide otherwise- as we have always maintained, IPOB is the representative of the entire people of Biafra. We the Biafra National Guard carries the responsibility of self-defense in Biafra land; and we are unapologetic, we don’t care what Nigeria tags the people of Old Eastern region but they should be rest assured that we must defend our lives according the 2007 UN and human rights charter.
“As thoughtless as the Nigerian military; a supposed intelligent officer that passed out of school and living in a modern world to tag a peaceful freedom fighting outfit terrorist organization is the height of the joke- Nigeria is a big joke.
“The daftness of Muhammadu Buhari has infected the Nigerian military that they both speak out of sheer hatred instead of reason or experience. It is laughable that it took UN to declare Boko Haram a terrorist organization but took a wayward soldier to declare a peaceful or non-violent people a terrorist organization. The Nigerian military can go to hell because we won’t be blackmailed; we will defend our lives at all cost and we will restore Biafra because we are freedom fighters.
“Nigerian government and her military must be taken back to the classroom or lecture hall to study history. They should be well taught that Nelson Mandela was never a terrorist; Martin Luther King and Mahatma Ghandi were never terrorists.
“They should be lectured that no freedom fighting outfit or fighter has been labeled a terrorist; it is only possible in artificially created Nigeria. Nigerian government and her military should go to UK and ask them why they never tagged Scots terrorists and they should also go to Spain for Catalonians. Must Nigeria continue to disgrace herself before the world; is Nigeria a world apart from the real world?
“Buhari and Britain should be well informed that they cannot blackmail us; if being a freedom fighter is being a terrorist, we are proud terrorists. If being a Biafran is being a terrorist; we are happy to be one but by virtue of our activities, we are not terrorists and can never be. We are Biafrans; we forbid terrorism; our culture and everything we represent forbids terrorism. Nigerian military is killing our people and we must defend ourselves to avoid our extinction.
“Biafra National Guard will never engage civilians but will oppose armed murderous Nigerian forces. We have been labeled terrorist to enable them implement the genocide against us but we will defend our lives. Nigerian government can be rest assured of self-defense because we shall never retreat or surrender till death lift our hands.
“Britain must be held to account because they are the brain behind the genocide and terrorist tag; they are backing this second phase genocide against the people of Biafra. Britain did not tag Scotland agitating for Self-determination terrorists but went ahead to force Nigeria to tag Biafrans who are like Scots terrorists. We will resist every attempt to implement this second genocide; may God never forgive us if we watched on while ethnic cleansing is carried out.”
