The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of 2 Agusta 109 Power attack helicopters, which are currently being assembled for induction during the forthcoming 2019 NAF Day Celebration taking place in Abuja from 27 – 29 April 2019. This was disclosed by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, today, 22 April 2019, in Maiduguri during a luncheon with troops of the Air Task Force (ATF) Operation LAFIYA DOLE (OPLD) to mark the Easter Celebrations. ‪The luncheon, which is in keeping with the CAS’ tradition of celebrating festive periods with frontline troops, afforded him the opportunity to interact with the troops in an informal setting to appreciate them for their sacrifices in the fight against insurgency, thereby boosting their morale while also filling the void created by their inability to celebrate the season with their families. ‬

In his remarks at the event, the CAS expressed delight to be in Maiduguri and commended the resilience and commitment of the troops in ensuring that Nigeria and Nigerians are safe. He said the NAF, with the support of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the National Assembly, would continue to acquire new platforms and build human capacity whilst ensuring the welfare of personnel, in order to effectively and efficiently respond to national security imperatives. He specially commended the Commander, officers, airmen and airwomen of the ATF for the successes recorded in the fight against the terrorists within the OPLD Theatre as well as in the Multi-National Joint Task Force Operation YANCIN TAFKI. He equally commended the ATF Commander for the various value-adding welfare projects that had been executed to enhance the wellbeing of personnel. The CAS reminded the personnel that so much was at stake in the fight to rid the Nation of insurgents, terrorists, armed bandits and other criminal elements. Accordingly, he urged them to remain resolute while intensifying their efforts and maintaining continuous vigilance to defend the liberties and values Nigerians hold so dear.

Air Marshal Abubakar seized the opportunity to thank the government and people of Borno State as well as the Shehu of Borno and other traditional rulers in the State for their continued support to the NAF through the ATF OPLD. He equally appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for his unflinching support to the NAF by ensuring the enabling environment and providing the necessary resources for the Service to perform its assigned duties. He noted that the delivery of the 2 Agusta 109 Power attack helicopters was a testimony of this immense support. He remarked that the NAF, working in concert with sister Services and other security agencies, would continue to reciprocate by sustaining its operations, not only in the Northeast but also in the Northwest, in order to ensure that Nigerians are able to pursue their legitimate aspirations, without fear.

Earlier in his welcome address, the ATF Commander, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) James Gwani, expressed the appreciation of the officers and men of the ATF to the CAS for his consistent presence in Maiduguri, which he said, was not only a huge source of motivation, but also a staunch indication of his commitment to the welfare and morale of the personnel. He thanked the CAS for providing all necessary facilities to ensure effective service delivery and pledged their unwavering loyalty and commitment towards ensuring mission accomplishment. Branch Chiefs and other senior officers from Headquarters NAF accompanied the CAS to the luncheon, which also had the Lawan of Gomari and other members of the Gomari Community in attendance.

In a similar vein, the CAS had earlier feted ATF troops in Yola at an Easter Luncheon on 21 April 2019. The CAS, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) Headquarters NAF, AVM Emmanuel Anebi, commended the troops for their commitment and resilience in the fight against insurgency noting that Nigerians were appreciative of their enormous sacrifices and efforts at ensuring the territorial integrity and security of the Nation. He emphasised that the get-together was also aimed at fostering comradeship and regimentation among troops while charging them to maintain continuous vigilance at all times.

The CAS appreciated the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his unflinching support to the NAF by ensuring the enabling environment and providing the necessary resources for the Service to perform its assigned duties. According to him, “We can only show our gratitude for the President’s support to the NAF by remaining a disciplined force and exhibiting the highest level of professionalism in all our activities. I, therefore, enjoin you all not to relent in your efforts”, he said.

TV/MoviesNetflix Unveils Its First Animated African Series Named “mama K’s Team 4” by Ravon(op): 9:51pm On Apr 22, 2019
Netflix has unveiled its first African animated series, which the streaming service tags “Mama K’s Team 4”. It was produced by South Africa’s Triggerfish Animation Studios and British kids’ and family entertainment production company CAKE.

The series follows four teenage girls living in a futuristic version of Lusaka, Zambia, who are recruited by a retired secret agent to save the world.

It was created by Zambian writer Malenga Mulendema, who in 2015 was one of eight winners of the Triggerfish Story Lab, a pan-African talent search backed by the Cape Town-based animation studio and The Walt Disney Co. The series is designed by the Cameroonian artist Malcolm Wope.

Mulendema said she was inspired by the experience of watching cartoons as a child in her native Zambia, where none of the heroes looked like her or lived in a world that resembled her own.

“In creating a superhero show set in Lusaka, I hope to introduce the world to four strong African girls who save the day in their own fun and crazy way,” she said. “Most importantly, I want to illustrate that anyone from anywhere can be a superhero.”

EducationNaomi Campbell & Gucci To Launch Fashion Design Schools In Unilag, Others by Ravon(op): 8:47am On Apr 20, 2019
As the cream of the fashion world converge in Lagos for this year’s edition of Arise Fashion Week (AFW), Super Model, Naomi Campbell, yesterday announced that she is in partnership with the Gucci brand, is set to launch an ambitious fashion fellowship in universities in Lagos, Ghana and Cape Town in a bold move aimed at unleashing the hidden talents that abound in the continent.

The University of Lagos will be the beneficiary in Nigeria.

Making the disclosure at the second session of Arise Talks moderated by Laila Johnson-Salami where a panel comprising Campbell, Reni Folawiyo, Barbara James and Funsho Olusanya deliberated on the topic, ‘Business of Fasion – Exploring all Facets of the Emerging Markets in Africa, the fashionista explained that after 33 years on the runway, she had decided that the time has come to use her network, experience and talent to work for Africa.

At another Arise Fashion Week forum, Minister of Trade and Industries, Okechukwu Enelamah hinted that the federal government was planning to raise $500 million to facilitate the setting up of three economic zones in Lekki, Funtua and Aba in Lagos, Katsina and Abia states respectively
Campbell explained to the audience at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, that her current initiative was in line with late Nelson Mandela’s entreaties to her when she visited him in South Africa that she should use her talent and experience to create a new Africa narrative.

According to her, “After 33 years in the business, I have decided that it is time to come back to Africa and begin planting seeds to give opportunities to young talents. Africa has always been in my mind since 1993 and I want to be part of Africa. Africa has amazing talents but lacking in exposure. So it is wonderful to partner Arise Fashion to bring this about.

“We are partnering the Gucci brand and they have agreed to launch fellowships in Lagos, Accra and Cape Town to open design schools that would train the much-needed fashion talents that abound in Africa. The aim is to change the perception and negative narrative as Nelson Mandela asked me to use my voice to do.”

On the issue of private equity funding, Barbara James of Henshaw Capital said the best source of funding required for the fashion or creative industry was either private equity or venture capital, regretting that both of these sources are still too small for any impact to be felt.
James proposed a $1 billion equity fund that would attract such big weights as Gucci, Ebay, government and another fund known as Technical Funding that could possibly pool $20 million to target capacity building in the creative industry.

In her contribution, Funsho Olusanya of FSDH noted that in as much funding remains a major challenge, “as a banker, what we look for is the bankability of a project that would make returns on investment. Unfortunately, most of the young entrepreneur lack very basic knowledge of financing, project bankability etc. What we are willing to do now is to support the industry with financial advisory to enable them get on their feet.”

The CEO of Alara, Reni Folawiyo lamented the dearth of skill manpower, infrastructure and human capacity development, arguing that these factors contribute to making the products expensive and of low quality.

Folawiyo noted that while talent was on the upswing, all factors need to be improved to ensure that solutions can be provided to bring down prices and produce quality goods and services.

Pro-chancellor of University of Lagos, Wale Babalakin, SAN, lauded Campbell and the Chairman, THISDAY/Arise Media Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, for choosing the University of Lagos for the fellowship, adding that it was coming at a time the authorities are seeking alternative means of revenue generation that “we’ll support, encourage and give our all to make this work.”

Obaigbena praised Campbell for deciding to dedicate the rest of her life to develop talent in Africa: “She has spent 33 years already in the business, now she is ready to dedicate the rest of her 33 years to building the African brand and new narrative for Africa.”

The Arise Fashion Week continues today at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.

The festival will culminate on Easter Sunday, April 21, with exciting shows on the runway.

Designers that will grace the runway include Turfah, Torlowei, Mai Atafo, Tokyo James, 3.Paradis, Tzar, Clan, Papa Oppong, Nkwo, and Selam Fessahaye.

Other designers to watch on the runway include Style Temple, Andrea Iyamah, Lanre Da Silva, Tiffany Amber among others.
In all, 37 local and international designers will showcase their creativity on the runway this Easter weekend.

Described as ‘the most beautiful runway in Africa’ the fashion festival, which was berthed over a decade ago, is adjudged the most prestigious platform to showcase Africa’s creative talents through fashion and music.

International models like Naomi Campbell, Grace Bol, Georgie Badiel, Millen Magese, and Oluchi Orlandi, have walked the AFW runway over the years, showcasing the best of African designs.

Since its return last year, AFW has continued in its commitment to push the African narrative, positioning the black continent as a hub of creative talents.

Last year’s edition recorded an impressive attendance and a dazzling runway that once again, placed the continent on the global stage. 45 designers from between 12 and 14 countries such as South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Germany, Canada, France, Morocco, the United Kingdom, United States, the Caribbean and Nigeria walked the runway at the 2018 edition.

As part of its commitment to groom fashion designers that will distinguish themselves globally, Arise Media, which organizes the yearly fashion fete, introduced a life-changing novelty known as the ARISE Fashion Management and Mentoring Programme (AFMMP). The AFMMP was designed for start-ups in the fashion business that can be nurtured to international brands.

Apart from shining the light on the continent through fashion, AFW also contributed to the arts and tourism sector of Lagos State such that the state recognized it as one of the key events to attend this year in the state’s arts and culture calendar.
Enelamah: FG to raise $500 million for Lekki, Funtua, Aba economic zones

Also at the Arise Fashion Week forum, Minister of Trade and Industries, Okechukwu Enelamah hinted that the federal government was planning to raise $500 million to facilitate the setting up of three economic zones in Lekki, Funtua and Aba in Lagos, Katsina and Abia states respectively.
Enelamah who was part of a panel comprising of Barbara Barungi and Ituen Bassey that discussed “From Retail to Export – Building a Sustainable Market” urged Nigerians to work with the present administration to make Nigeria work and great.

At the panel discussion moderated by the Director General, Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Segun Awolowo, the Minister explained that the federal government was aiming at creating a pull strategy in areas where the country has comparative advantage.

According to him, “we are at the moment looking at the entire value chain including in the fashion or creative industry to create a pull strategy and facilitate this by creating industrial infrastructure to position Nigeria where it can compete globally in areas where it has competitive advantage.

“We are working with investors and various players to create industrial parks while we as a government would provide the incentives. Overall, we are creating an enabling environment for fashion or the creative industry to gain a foothold so we can realize our full potential in both markets and population.”

He said the government was also working to develop the economy in order remove sub-economic cost to lower cost of production and funds, adding that it was encouraging innovation, creativity and production to make inroad globally.

In her contribution, the MD, Imara Africa Consulting, Barbara Barungi said apart from funding challenges, African are yet to take the issue of intellectual property seriously, calling for what she described as “a legal dimension to protect the fashion industry.”

Albert Okumagba of BGL in his contribution pointed to the red tapism in sourcing financing from the banks and urging government to rather seek alternative sources of funding from the private sector to support the creative industry.

Dettol, the world’s leading antibacterial brand on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 held a colourful ceremony at Radisson Blu, Ikeja, Lagos to launch the ‘Clean Naija Initiative’, a campaign which is aimed at creating awareness, education and driving behavioural change to achieve a cleaner and healthier Nigeria.

The ceremony which had the leadership team of Reckitt Benckiser Nigeria and other dignitaries in attendance also doubled as the unveiling of prominent Nollywood actress and multiple award-winning producers, Funke Akindele-Bello, as its brand ambassador.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager, RB West Africa, Mr Dayanand Sriram who expressed his excitement and enthusiasm about the launch and partnership, said that “At RB, we have made it our responsibility and purpose to help people live healthier lives and have happier homes. It is why we are launching the Clean Naija Initiative which is an integrated multi-level campaign with the aim of creating awareness, education and driving behavioural change to achieve a cleaner and healthier Nigeria.

We recognize this is an enormous task and we acknowledge the partnership of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources. It is also my utmost pleasure to unveil leading Nollywood actress and award-winning producer Funke Akindele-Bello as the Dettol Clean Naija brand ambassador.

Mrs Akindele-Bello has been a worthy role model and an inspiration for all Nigerians. Having also recorded success in various selfless activities, we have deemed her worthy of leading our “Clean Naija Initiative,” he added.

The initiative comes at a critical time, as Nigeria has been ranked amongst the top nations that bear a significant portion of the global disease burden and high under-5 mortality rates with over 150,000 children dying yearly. Many of these diseases, such as diarrhoea can be prevented by proper hand washing habits and wide-scale hygiene education. This is a major motivation for the setting up of the Clean Naija Initiative.

Funke Akindele, the new brand ambassador, who recently welcomed a set of twins also expressed her delight on the new partnership. Speaking at the event, she said; “As a new mother, I have come to appreciate more the need for improved hygiene practices. This campaign will help sensitize Nigerians on the health benefits of adopting simple but effective hygienic practices like proper hand washing regularly.”

RB Nigeria, through the Dettol brand, has over the years developed a number of programs committed to tackling public health and hygiene issues. These include the School Hygiene Program and the New Mum’s Program.

The ‘Clean Naija Initiative’ will help educate children on proper hand hygiene habits through the School Hygiene Program, while the New Mum’s Program will enlighten pregnant and new mothers on hygienic practices that will protect them and their children from deadly diseases like diarrhoea.

Through the School Hygiene Program, RB has educated over seven million children on proper hand hygiene habits, while the company has used the New Mum’s Program to educate over five million pregnant and new mothers on hygienic practices to protect them during the pre- and post- phases of their pregnancies.

BusinessWhy You Should Consider Investing In Eurobond Funds? by Ravon(op): 11:23am On Apr 17, 2019
Last week, the IMF/World Bank annual spring meeting for 2019 was concluded. Apart from increased flexibility, the harmonization of the multiple exchange rate system and removal of FX restrictions were some of the key recommendations made for Nigeria. If the historical trend is anything to go by, we know that the CBN often hold FX rates above its fair value till unbearable pressure builds up to necessitate a devaluation. Hence, investment in a dollar-denominated instrument such as Eurobonds often makes economic sense over the medium to long term.

Currently, Nigeria is the third largest issuer of Eurobond in Africa. Large corporate issuers are also tapping into Eurobond market, with Ecobank Transnational Incorporation joining the fray last week with a $450.0mn issue at 9.75%. For retail investors, investing in a Eurobond Fund is, perhaps, the easiest way to benefit. Typically, a Eurobond Fund is a mutual fund designed to pool fund from different individuals – ordinarily unable to directly invest in a Eurobond- to benefit from same as a competitive return on investment rather than holding dollar savings in a domiciliary account which yield little or no interest.

Beside capital gain, additional benefits of investing in a Eurobond Fund include:

- Portfolio diversification into relatively stable dollar asset
- provides an avenue to hedge investment against currency risk and
- the tax advantage that mutual funds offer as returns are not subject to withholding tax.
- Understanding Eurobonds

Understanding Eurobonds

Euro bonds are bonds that are denominated in a currency other than that of the issuer.

It is a bond issued by the Federal Government of Nigeria in Nigeria but denominated in US Dollars. Those who buy it, buy in Dollars and the interest and principal repayment is conducted in US Dollars.

As can be noted from the above example, Eurobonds are not necessarily denominated in Euros as the name implies. Actually, bonds denominated in US Dollars are better known as Eurodollar bonds, while those denominated in Japanese Yen are called Euroyen bonds, but Eurobonds have come to be generally associated with bonds denominated in currencies other than that of the issuer.

How to Invest In Eurobonds

The process of investing in Eurobonds in Nigeria does not differ from that of an ordinary bond. Basically, FGN bonds and indeed, FGN Eurobonds can be bought at the primary market at the initial offer level or at the secondary market for an existing bond. The process entails completing the Tender for Federal Government of Nigeria Bonds’ form, submitting same through any of the authorised dealers and making the required payment when the bid is successful.

PoliticsWorld Premiere Of All-new 2020 Toyota Highlander (pictures) by Ravon(op): 9:15am On Apr 17, 2019
Toyota is on a major role with new SUVs, especially the next-generation three-row 2020 Highlander debuting at the New York International Auto Show. Arriving in Toyota dealerships in winter, the Highlander Gas model will arrive in December 2019 and the Highlander Hybrid will make its way to customers in February 2020.

Just as the first RAV4 launched the compact crossover SUV segment 22 years ago, the original Highlander redefined the midsize family SUV when it arrived in 2001. At a time when most midsize SUVs were truck-based, the Highlander’s unibody structure with four-wheel independent suspension quickly became the template for a new segment of more comfortable and family-friendly SUVs. After adding the third row, the Highlander not only grew in size but is also now the best-selling retail model in the segment since 2016.

BusinessGolden Guinea Breweries Dispels Rumours On The Commencement Of Full Operations by Ravon(op): 7:15pm On Apr 16, 2019
Golden Guinea Breweries Plc has issued a statement dispelling the rumour on the commencement of full operations at its Umuahia plant.

According to the statement issued on the Nigerian Stock Exchange portal,

” The attention of Golden Guinea Breweries Plc has been drawn several unauthorised recent online publications on the commencement of full operations of the company”.

“The company stands on the disclosure and publication issued to the public via the issuer’s portal on resuming operations before the end of the second quarter of 2019”.

“We have not resumed operations and, therefore, any contrary and mischievous online publication is hereby disclaimed”.

The statement was signed by the Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Mr Udo Ogaranya.

Golden Guinea originally commenced business in 1963 and was named Independence Brewery Limited. Annual capacity was 1 million gallons. The location of Umuahia was chosen due to the importance of water which led to the selection of a site in Umuahia, the town of the Regional Premier, Dr Michael Okpara.

The company introduced Eagle Stout to the market in 1967, however, production was cut short between 1967 and 1970 due to the Nigerian Civil War. Production restarted in 1971 following the end of the war. The company also changed its name to Golden Guinea Breweries. In 1975, the company was revamped and an extension was built by the German firm Coutinho Caro which later participated in an equity offering issued by the firm.

Production at the brewery was again cut short by a fire incident in 2003 but recent attempts have been made to bring the brewery back to life. The company holds franchise rights from German-based Holsten Breweries to produce and market Golden Guinea Lager, Bergedorf Premium Lager and Bergedorf Malta in Nigeria.

PoliticsICPC: Daniel Obah Loses Properties Worth N124.5 Million To FG by Ravon(op): 2:08pm On Apr 15, 2019
A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, sitting in Zuba, has ordered the final forfeiture of properties worth N124.5 million illegally acquired by a Principal Accountant in the Finance and Accounts Department of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Daniel Obah, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Mr. Obah, who was charged before Justice E. O. Ebong, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), was accused of fraudulently acquiring a four-bedroom duplex in Abuja and plots of land in Rivers State.

Counsel to ICPC, John-Paul Okwor, told the court that the Commission was relying on Section 48 (2) (3) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, which gives it the power to obtain a ruling of forfeiture seized assets acquired by individuals through corrupt means.

The Commission had argued before the court that Obah and two other staff of the Ministry, Poloma Kabiru Nuhu and Mangset Longyl Dickson allegedly carried out a coordinated fraud within the Ministry resulting in the withdrawal of N605 million from its 2014 Constituency Projects account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The assets forfeited by Obah which also include a Toyota Camry car and a 2013 Honda Accord were ascertained to be from the proceeds of the fraud.

The landed properties: one 4-bedroom duplex at Janew Home, Plot No.3 Cadastral zone D02, Karsana South District, Abuja, valued at N60 million and a plot of land at Ohia Ngbakiri, Ozuoba, Port Harcourt, Rivers State valued at N30 million.

Others include plots of land at Oliopobo, Rumuekini New Layout, Obio Akpor L.G.A. of Rivers State valued at N18 million, Umuodili Odubo, Abe Ndoni Community, valued at N16. 5 million and Livingstone Estate Umuogodo, Igbo- Etche, Obio Akpor L.G.A. Rivers State.

However, Obah argued for the four-bedroom duplex to be left out of the properties to be forfeited because according to him, it was acquired with his legitimate income.

Unfortunately for him, the trial judge dismissed his plea for failing to convince the court with proof. He therefore ruled that all the seven properties listed by ICPC be forfeited to the federal government.

EducationPoisoning Of OAU Dam, Act Of Genocide – Obafemi Awolowo University Management by Ravon(op): 11:18pm On Apr 10, 2019
The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has described the poisoning of its dam by suspected hoodlums as an act of genocide against members of the institution.

Recalls that some aggrieved indigenes of Ile-Ife, who claimed ownership of some portions of the university land, had on April 3 invaded the university and allegedly poisoned the institution’s dam with a chemical.

Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, the university’s Public Relation Officer, who conducted journalists round the disputed land and the dam within the school’s premises, on Wednesday, said the poisoning of the dam was genocidal.

Olanrewaju said the chemical used in poisoning the dam, which was the only source of water for the university, killed all the aquatic animals in it.

He, however, said that the dam had been treated and was now safe to drink.

“The act is condemnable and wicked.

“How can some group of people poison the only source of the dam where the over 36,000-strong university population was drinking from. “The act is genocidal and wicked. “

They came through the Parakin area of the town to poison the dam but God was so good to us that immediately the dam was poisoned, rain fell for two days which washed the poisonous chemical away.

“We have treated the water and laboratory test had been done on it and now it is very safe to drink”, Olanrewaju said. Olanrewaju also said the disputed land belongs to the Federal Government, adding that the university was not ready to concede it to anybody.

According to him, the land which is about 162 hectares was given to the university in the 60s by the then Ooni of Ife, Oba Adesoji Aderemi.

He said the land grabbers had started selling some portions of land to the people while construction workers working on the proposed OAU International Secondary school on the land were chased away with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons by the hoodlums.

Olanrewaju said three blocks of hostels built for students on the said land were abandoned due to attacks by the hoodlums.

“For the safety of our children in the university, the vice-chancellor instructed us not to allocate any of 360 rooms newly built hostel to them. ” The vice-chancellor has also instructed our security men not to retaliate but it is not possible for anyone to invade Federal Government land for personal gain because the land is gazetted.

“We have informed the police and other security agencies and we believe they will act accordingly. “We have also informed the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Ife Development Board, ”Olanrewaju said.

He, however, said that anyone who was ready to use any portion of the land for the generality of the people and not for personal gain could approach the university for consideration.

PoliticsGlaxosmithkline Is Shutting Down Its Agbara Plant. The Company Explains Why by Ravon(op): 1:40pm On Apr 02, 2019
The management of the leading pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Nigeria says it plans to shut down its production facility located in the Agbara Industrial Estate in Ogun state, Nigeria by the Q3 2021.

According to the company, closing the Agbara plant is part of its plans at restructuring its internal operations.

This was stated in its corporate disclosure issued to the Nigerian Stock Exchange, today saying the company’s Board of Directors approved the plan.

GSK stated that it will transition to contract manufacturing. This means that the pharmaceutical company will work with local contract manufacturers for the supply of the company’s drugs and other pharmaceutical products. GSK’s restructuring would support the building of local expertise, transfer of technical knowledge and improve local production capacities in the country, said its management.

It will also enable the company to focus on the commercial aspect of its business, which basically involves “supporting access to GSK’s consumer health products, medicines, and vaccines.”

Following an extensive review of its product supply operation, the Board of Directors has approved a restructuring of GSK’s current operating model to better serve the Nigerian patients and consumers. The restructuring, which will be effective in Q3 2021, involves working with local contract manufacturers for the supply of GSK’s products, where possible. This will support the building of local expertise, transfer of technical knowledge, and improve local production capacities in the country.

However, part of the statement issued to the NSE said: “the identification of a suitable third party local manufacturer will be the subject of another announcement.”

GlaxoSmithKline Nigeria says the restructuring will affect its commitment to global health issues in Nigeria and elsewhere. It will also continue to be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Its Agbara plant will remain functional until the third quarter of 2021, by which time a suitable local contract manufacturer would have been found.
