the same way a guy who had chosen Microbiology as his desired course stormed this thread to start lamenting how wretched and unemployable Microbiology graduates are. I was so hot-headed at such a myopic view. i said, Why chose a course you know zilch about? I schooled him on the course and made him see things in a different light.

Yeah, but one thing you should know about faculty of arts (especially their departments in Ugbowo campus). First class doesn't exist.. Especially ISD and ENL.,

If you really need 1st class, go to any private college, where out of 1200 graduating students, 150 will have first class, then 800 will have 2.1, and 210 will have 2.2, with only 40 people having third class

Apart from arts which is not my faculty, First class is achievable. Even in my chosen course, I learnt only one person has begged first class in the last 25years! I was discombobulated at the knowledge of such! well, it's not a deterrent to my pursuit.

Philosophy is a second order discipline. It touches aspects of every discipline to the best of My knowledge. As for the similarities there are, in 400level there's a 3units core course, philosophy of law, that we did. I bliv they do that in law aswell as jurisprudence. Along side other courses in different levels that involves human rights, morals and ethics.

I love philosophy, I even think to do well as a lawyer, One needs philosophical knowledge in some principal areas.

What Ray360 said is very true. Getting jobs can be difficult buh same thing applies with most unprofessional courses. You clearly have no idea what philosophy is all about. Dnt confuse it for what ure been thought in gst, it is very far from that. And again, inasmuch as philosophy and religion share a dept, they have different courses.
Plus calling history useless is as good as saying ur existence is useless buh I trust u won't get the meaning behind what I just said since u think your history as a person is useless. Dnt gt offended bro! Was just rephrasing ur statement.

Thanks for corroborating my point. Philosophy is a very broad course with a plethora of opportunities like o highlighted in my afore post. no course itself is useless. every course has its placement and area of capacity in the world. There are jobs! I refuse to masticate on that societal Belief that there are no Jobs in Nigeria, Apart from that, why is everyone going to school with the sole aim of working in an office with a braw briefcase in hand and a well polished suit? whatever happened to self establishment? I may work for 3 or 4 years after graduation, then delve into entrepreneurship with the aim to creating wings of profit-making and a mega fund raising project. abeg, make i stop here! before i let out all my breathing dreams! lol

Even with your first class, you need the right skills n God's grace. First class is like groundnut nw, it's everywhere! Just do ur best in school for nw and establish good and meaningful relationships with people, when u rch that road ul cross it. It shall be well with thee... Can i hear an amen

I beg to differ, philosophy is far from useless. The word alone "philosophy" means the love of wisdom. I really dnt see how useless that is. As a career path in Nigeria, it can be quite tough for those not interested in lecturing, buh Nigeria as we know it dnt adhere to "na wetin you read you go use work". I studied philosophy as my first degree, n u dnt want to know where I have worked and presently working with that certificate.
I have course mates and frnds in the banking, retail, and legal sectors not to mention civil service. Virtually all these sectors give their recruits training on their services . On your own part as a student all u need to do is come out with a 2:1 at least coz it's really competitive out in the favour market as some people will call it to gt this chance not minding what you studied "sometimes"
Philosophy was not my first choice, hell iv always wanted to be a lawyer, buh i accepted to do it then coz my mates were going to school and all n i dint want to be the one who gets to sit at home for an extra yr, it can be nerve racking
OK nw I'm talking too much ,.... We all have our various subjective views. Philosophy was one interesting course, really difficult buh interesting. I know people who will disagree, buh oh well! It's my opinion

lol.. I have always been. I just want to trample on this notion that one won't get employed after studying a particular course for 4 , 5 or 7 years. Some people just join others in saying there are no jobs in Nigeria. My elder brother started working immediately after youth service. He didn't stay at home up to a month. Now, he works with Jobberman and he is comfortable to an extent. will you tell me that if I graduate with first class, I will still roam the streets with tattered shoes seeking employment? I have summoned heaven to pour on me that grace he rained on my brother that made things go swimmingly. he will!

I pillared my points on philosophy as the fulcrum. I can't really say much on Religion. the tonal aura of my insight may seem unrealistic due to the Hullabaloo associated with unemployment in Nigeria, the fact is, there are not too many sound philosophers in Nigeria. that's because even some people who studied the course can't cement a stand on the podium of philosophical academics. the careers I listed are open to graduates in philosophy. Do you know that a law firm or whatever can employ a sound philosopher? due to the slight simulacrum in both fields. though in Naija, graduates work anywhere the fattest cow can be lucratively milked. naija my country!

To me, the most useless thing to study is Philosophy and Religion...
Religion finals wrote their last paper yesterday and started celebrating.. But they wouldn't wanna teach in primary and secondary schools, so what are they going to add to the society? Increased rate of unemployment; increased number of jobless youths; more people living below 1.57 dollars per day?

Inasmuch as the above school of thought is a personal opinion, I must bring to light the fact that Philosophy and Religion is not a useless course, as a matter of fact, no course is useless. Philosophy is a very difficult course to study, it is even above the intellectual capacity of some people studying the course due its voluminous and extensive scope that noses into divergent fields. Graduates of the course can work as Lecturers, legal consultants in local and federal government,
recruitment and human resources, advertising,
marketing, counselling and journalism are also
possible careers under the circle of philosophy. I must admit the course is very challenging and if one graduates with healthy grades, then fetching employment won't be a Thankless task.

most girls are like that. Especially chubby girls. a girl once narrated the fracas that ensued In her hostel room! She wanted to climb up to her bunk, so she placed a foot on the rim of the down bunk to aid her ascent, the girl down flared up and told her never to step on her bunk again, then they started quarrelling ! . some girls get wahala sha.. that's nothing in guys' hostels. in fact, one can never go hungry in guys' hostel if one is in good rapport with other room mates. Guy are so free and less querulous! the only property a guy owns in a hostel is his boxers. hahahah!
they wear two left-legged slippers and juts live free! lol

Ekosodin will be a haven if you can mind your business and avoid late night walks. dress decently like a well cultured girl and you will be fine. If you want to go for night class, leave by 6 or 7 in the evening. These petty mannerisms if well enacted will keep you away from the Ghouls in ekosodin.

Short-put Is as old as man! very flexible and Direct. hahaha. girls' hostels according to my sister's experience is an incinerator! And you know how susceptible some girls can be to water borne diseases and toilet infections, so most of the do their "business" inside a portable nylon and pass it skillfully over the fence like professionals. lol
