After HTML basics what next? After having a mind blowing lecture on preview of HTML, I bet we're all curious to know more, well here's my little contribution, you might want to get your jotter and pen though. HTML syntax Before content is added, most HTML files look like this=> <!Doctype html> <html> <head><title></title></head> <body> <--!Content that appears on web page goes here--> </body> </html> In case you don't understand just yet, don't panic just read on. HTML Tags And Uses We've been told that we have open and closing tags and they consist of (<> for open) and (</> for closing) but mind you we also have self closing tags (</> or <> and by self closing I mean they don't need end tags.BODY TAG <body></body> this tag displays all contents found in html document. These content include text, links, images etc. Intact all you see on the web. COMMENT TAG <!--> this tag hides text from showing in your web page. By that I mean although this texts are in your body tag which is supposed to be visible on your web page, once they are in the comment tag, they become invisible, it is commonly used by coders to insert comments in various sections, therefore making it easy for other coders to understand what's going on in the source code. This can be used like this: <!--code starts here--> <!--code ends here--> No closing tag. DOCTYPE TAG <!Doctype> this is called the document type tag, it actually is not a tag per say but it helps the browser understand the version of html in use of which without it, the browser would not be able to recognise the web page. It does not have a closing tag. ANCHOR TAG <a></a> have you ever visited a web page and in the process of galavanting through the content, you're shown a link to another page? Well then that's what anchor tag does, interconnect two pages with help of address link through href which is actually an attribute. ITALIC TAG <i></i> as name implies, makes text italic. BOLD TAG <b></b> makes text bold LINE BREAK TAG <br> is a self closing tag, if all texts are on one line, once or anywhere a line break is added, any text after the line break tag will start on a new line. E.g I am cool bro <br> how are you? Introducing a line break before how the result will become I am cool Bro how are you PARAGRAPH TAG <p></p> as name implies, is used to start a new paragraph UNDERLINE TAG <u></u> to underline text IMAGE TAG <img/> does not have an end tag, it is used to upload images on a web page DIV TAG <div></div> defines a section in a html document i.e simply division of document into sections or let me say in bits. <div> <p>hi, am happy</p> </div> <div> <IMG src="happy.jpg"/> </div> now this put the paragraph in a section and image in another section. INPUT TAG <input> this tag is of great use especially when creating a form. It's used to gather info from a user, does not have a closing tag. This tag has attributes of text (which allows user input only text) and button or submit(which allows user submit info on click). TABLE TAG <table></table> for creating tables in a web page. CENTER TAG <center></center> align text to center LIST TAG <li></li> to create a list. Types: ORDERED LIST <ol></ol> starts with alphabets or numbers including roman numeral, to select your desired, Use the type attribute. E.g <ol type="a"></ol> for alphabet <ol type="1"></ol> for numbers <ol type="i"></ol> for roman numeral. UNORDERED LIST <ul></ul> STYLE TAG <style></style> used to include inline CSS in a html document. SCRIPT TAG <script></script> used to include inline JavaScript in html. MARK TAG <mark></mark> highlight text. To mention but a few. |
