swiz123: You are highly correct. I have schooled Popizaino on this but he is very stubborn. A player might be good at farming stats but choke when the career defining situations arises. Saka is a solid candidate here.
Some players show world class potentials but would later just fall off. That is why consistency is prerequisite. Exactly, consistency is paramount. |

swiz123: Wrong. A potential world class player can attain a world class status if they are consistent and win important trophies with their performance being integral to the team’s success.
So it isn’t a potential, it is a status. Simple. |

AirBere: Yamal for me is world class simply because he'll be the first name on the team sheet of any team you can think of right now. Players, fans, managers are already seeing him as the best or one of the very best.
For Spain, he's their best player after Rodri. For Barca, he's outrightly thier best player right now.
Of course it's subjective so to each, their own. Where you around during Ansu fati era? That should answer your question why you shouldn't be in a rush to Rate a player with less than 5 seasons to his name. Ansu fati was so good then, some were saying he will surpass Messi Career, his potentials was so high then just like Yamal. Let not rush Yamal yet because I believe there is more to come from him and he hasn't peak fully yet. |

MorataFC: Saying a player must play at their peak for five years before we call them world-class is too strict. In today’s football, world-class means being one of the best in your position right now, not after serving time. With stats and tough competitions to judge from, it’s easier to spot when a player is already performing at the very top level.
A world-class player should be judged by their numbers, how well they perform in big games, and how much they improve their team. Some players can show this in just one or two seasons, especially if they are playing in the best leagues or major tournaments.
Also, not every world-class player has to break records. You can be world-class without breaking a single record, does it mean a striker has to score 91 goals in a calendar year like Messi before he can be called world-class? Definitely not. Defenders, midfielders, and playmakers can be world-class because they control games, stop opponents, or create chances that change results. Consistency truly matters, but world-class is really about beinh among the best in the world at your time, and players can prove that without waiting for donkey years. Well, seem some of us have high expectations from players, if you can use a player one or two seasons to call him World class, then that fair from you, but I won't do that. Cause I have seen players with one or two good seasons but fell off, they couldn't peak, I can't call such players World class. Consistent is key is even if you are not performing at the level of a world class, reasons why clubs sell players if their performance drop. As a player, you have to be at your best for certain period of time either to be rated as a good player or a world class player. |

izzou: The potential is my point.
He shared a list of young players. A 28 years old is the oldest there. How can you say there's no World class player there, even though we know time can change it or not?
People break sporting records at 18, 20, 21. What years of consistency do you think they have?
Yamal is a World class player as at today. Over time, he will prove it with stats. If you are saying a player is World class, then the stats is there to prove it already and his performance over a time. I don't see how a world class class will need time to prove that he is truly a world class player. I think maybe if you use the word World class prodigy, then you may be right. Remember, Ansu fati was already getting world class shouts from Barca fans before his injuries crisis. Potentials to be a world class was there for all to see but he couldn't live to it. This are the issues why consistency is key, one don't know what may happen. But if you insist Yamal is already world class, that's fine.

izzou: I have asked what the stat of an 18 year old should look like nau?
Just give me an idea. All am saying is that, you can't call a 18yrs old player World class who literally hasn't have up to 5 season of professional football to his name, performance or stats wise, less than 5 seasons is not good enough to rate a player up to a world class level. But if you feel one or two seasons is good enough, then that's generous from you, but that mean we may have many players who are world class. |

izzou: So there's was something to be seen right?
A World class player just has time to prove it. Nothing more.
The same way Haaland and Mbappe came out, is the same way Isak and Ekitike will have to prove it.
Yamal is World class, and he's 18. Or should we say Yamal needs 10 seasons to prove it? How can you say Yamal is world class when he literally just have one good season, what we are seeing from Yamal now is his potentials, we don't know how long it will last. He should be consistent for at least 3yrs more with his performance and improve on his stats. His current stats is not a world class level player yet

izzou: World class is a potential, and not seasons upon seasons.
If the potential is there, the person can be World class, and time will prove it.
Ronaldo was already World class in Manchester United. Ronaldo literally spent 8yrs with Man united, won the the Balon d'or. He Play his best football as a true winger that he his in Man united. His potential was at Sporting CP, his peak performance started right from Man united, he was already a world class player when he left United for Madrid. |

People will just use World class on players because the have a good few seasons.
exceptional skill, unparalleled consistency over time, the ability to perform at their peak in high-pressure situations, and a profound impact on their team's success.
See the bolded, that is what define a world class players for me, you must peak for at least 5yrs in performance, stats wise, your numbers should not diminished, set a record, break a record or match your record.
Consistently is key to reach that World class status. Just two good yrs cannot give a player a World class status, people saying Isak, Wirtz and Caicedo are world class is quite bizarre, just two good season is not enough to get a world class shout. |
