haybhi1: He was a great man, for standing for democracy. lol, you people and your gaslighting, blackmailing and calumny. Lol
Listen Ojukwu, no Yoruba man anywhere cares about you people. We do not send you. We don't even mind what you chose to do with yourself. I dare say no Yoruba thinks about y'all enough to hate you. If Igbo man wins in Lagos and Hausa man wins in Osun, while Igbo man won in all of South eastern states then it's easy to see the cheap, unintelligent blackmail. Bro, Yorubas don't care about your existence or even the air you breathe in!
Look, we're Yorubas and education is our watchword, from the days of our founding fathers, because we're positioned with exposure. We learn from and model towards the Whites, rather than staying logged with our bitter neighbours at home. It's this reason you see Yorubas excelling in the White men's land at a ratio astronomical than other tribes around.
My dear, every hate you think Yorubas have for anyone in Nigeria is imaginary. I swear it only exists in your people's mind. In fact, most of us Yorubas still patronize your people (ahead of ours) like we don't care, especially if you sell at a better price than ours for the same thing because we don't even see you as rivals–this is rare among non-Yorubas. Our goals is to be great, to go far in life and achieve great things along the White men like Soyinka did, like Tope Awotona did, like Gbenga Agboola, Adebayo Ogunlesi, Eniola Aluko, Tion Wayne, https://www.nairaland.com/6531702/victory-yinka-banjo-gets-19-scholarship, and so on. We are not poised to embroil with some petty lowlifers back home who are comfortable with being local champions and winning little things. Goodluck to una sha. We'll never hate you because we're never competitors. We're not in the same lane at all. You are so daft and stupid. Why can't you not acknowledge what this man did against all odds he still conducted the best election in history and without prejudice against a Yoruba candidate wanted to make sure MKO won. |

I will listen to the young and vibrant minds before I listen to a broken elder. Fredrick Douglas’s quote: “ “It's easier to build strong children than to repair broken men” .
Onasanjo never visited Yorubaland for his 8 years in office and only time he stepped his shaky legs in Lagos was during Election Campaign billed ‘Lagos Tsunami” and most of our people rejected his campaign’s title because we live by Atlantic Ocean and we don’t want Tsunami in Lagos. He finished his tenure and instead of him to stay in Abuja or any Northern State or Igboland, he ran back to SW.
Yorubas need to be more vigilant as Nigeria will never be one. If you live in oversea and you will find out that Nigeria is not one. Ibos, Hausas and even Edo folks prefer their tribes than others from different tribes.
If Obasanjo wants one Nigeria, he should advocate freedom of religion and should preach state of residence and these will chaos on steroids for the calamity that will ensue. You are preaching one Nigeria and on the other hand you are being a secessionist. why most you Yoruba tribalists hate Obasanjo because he never towed your tribal line and he was more nationalistic and he never gave a damn about you bigots. |

UltraSolid: I don't agree with the insults but I think OBJ should be circumspect with his talk. He says some really arrogantly insensitive things that shows a jarring disconnection with reality. He has lived his life. Let him graciously leave matters to those of us who feel the pulse of Nigeria and therefore understand the solutions she truly needs.
For example, no reform of the NPF can make it the solution to our security problem in so far as how tribalism and ethnic bias has severely compromised the efficacy of the Nigerian police force. Meanwhile the SW will be safe and secure in six months only if she had regional policing because of how progressive and forward looking the Yorubas are. Yet OBJ will never support thins so he can continue to please his 'one Nigeria' pals.
Take Amotekun that is the only one of it's kind today in terms of professionalism, structure and efficacy whereas the equivalent Igbos rushed to copy the Yorubas and create, I.e Ebebeagu, has been disbanded today for human rights abuse, extortion, robbery etc. That is an example of what Yorubas can achie e with their own well-trained, modern and science/DNA technology-driven regional police force.
Oga Amotekun is a failure. The SW is still more in number of deaths and kidnapping than the south east(Numbers don't lie). so your postulation makes no sense. Obasanjo says the fact. the reason why you guys hate him is that he doesn't exhibit that closet tribalism and stupid behavior most of you exhibit.
OBJ, if he means we'll for the Yorubas and Nigeria, should not be saying this. It is why a lot of Yorubas detest him passionately. Things like DAWN regional initiative, that has the best regional development road map ever created by any Nigerian region, OBJ will arrogantly stay away from and even attempt to shade while our most respected fathers and grandfathers, in the mould of Awolowo, remain consumed with how Yorubas can escape the impediments of one Nigeria so our people and the SW can develop to their best potentials.
OBJ always comes across as an elitist and enemy of Yorubas unimpeded development. His talk here is no different to that of Buhari who also arrogantly declared that those asking for restructuring are dangerous.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/06/those-calling-for-restructuring-naive-dangerous-says-buhari/ Oga Amotekun is a failure. mikeapollo: [/b]
The above is not accurate!
Initially, NNPC had 60% and Mobil 40% in the original JV. NNPC objected to the Mobil-Seplat deal and took Mobil to court because NNPC believed they have the right to first refusal before any other party outside the JV could buy off the assets. Seplat was not a member of the JV in question. As a compromise to settle the case out of court, Mobil agreed for NNPC to get additional 10% (making 70% total stake) while Seplat gets the 30% remainder.
In the case of ENI-Oando: Both ENI, Oando and NNPC were the pre-existing partners in the JV, in the ratio 20:20:60 respectively. Therefore, it was easier for the assets of a partner (ENI) to be transferred and bought by one of the other partners in the JV, which is Oando.
The same problem would have arisen if ENI had attempted to sell its assets to another party outside the pre-existing JV or if Oando was not a member of the original JV Okay clearly understood |

Lithiumite: What do you mean by hoping to be independent.....it's in the policy statement if Nelfund and that's the logical thing to do,many people were procrastinating about pension fund when it started and looks where we are today despite it being that's it's a fraction of the population that are benefitting from it.
The tax net in Nigeria as it is needs to be broadened and if you are following the tax reform policy,it seeks to capture loose funds in the hands of the rich while leaving out those down the ladder earning less.
Income taxes now have to be better streamlined and also vat to be removed from some essential goods....we can't get it all within a short period but we need to start from somewhere.....china didn't get to where is is today by driving rolls royces and range rovers with a GDP of less than $500bn,they had to roll up their sleeves and work to get where they are today.
Even if it's less than 10% of our petrol that goes out the border that's no problem but govt is saying they aren't subsidising that,if you want to use petrol pay for it simple,we aren't subsidising you anymore,i don't see anything wrong with that. Do you know that the US still applies subsidies on fuel and energy? Look there are things you need to subsidize to drive production, even the Middle east giants subsidize fuel and energy. That lone helps to drive the economy, these are things that are non negotiable. on the issue of taxation, you are just trying to be half clever in twisting the narrative. No one is saying that the tax net should not be broadened, but the timing is poor, we are in Austerity the first thing governments do is to come up with a tax based system that encourages production, this start with key tax cuts which will help stimulate production and grow the economy after which you can now tax or widen the tax net. Obama did it in 2009 when he came in. you are talking about China, and that is when i knew you are not a sincere person. Do you know China subsidizes and also defends their currency that is why their goods are cheap in the international market? any sensible leader knows that subsidy is key. The issue with Nigeria is the corruption in the subsidy scheme. Tinubu removed subsidy, but he has never bothered to even do a forensic audit of the Buhari subsidy regime to catch the subsidy fraud there. He simply gave the thieves a pat in the back and transfered the pains on the average Nigerian. |

Lithiumite: What is the volume of fuel that leaves this country's borders and sold cheaper than the official rates in Togo,Benin,Niger, tchad and Cameroon? I am also a living witness of endless lines of vehicles even trucks taking fuel out which is still happening as we speak.
Ghana can have a much more robust tax system than we have because they have been consistent with it and it and it's imbued in every Ghanian that taxes must be paid for growth and development as against the lacuna we have here.
Student loans would be sustainable as it will become an independent fund soon just like the pension fund that many never believed it would work initially.....things like this are the things we need to ease the pains of the people,a robust consumer credit scheme is on the cards and coming up soon to help boost spending thereby boosting productivity, this are some measures put in place to reinflate the economy. How many trucks do you think will come from Nigeria to sustain those countries. You think these guys are just poor beggar countries? Their standard of living trumps ours any day anytime. I have been to Togo, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Liberia so i know what i am saying. There is no way our fuel subsidizes these countries it is very miniscule walahi. The tax system of Ghana is robust, but the key ask is this why try to broaden a tax net on a population that has lost half of its purchasing power and is struggling to survive? You don't do that, but rather in austerity there are tax cuts meant to stimulate production. where is your conscience to even support this. On the student loans, your comment shows that you are doing vibes and Insha Allah, hoping that it will become an independent fund how? See my guy do not on the altar of favors defend rubbish and suspend your conscience. |

Lithiumite: Thank you for your quiet thoughtful and intelligent posits.
If the figures weren't bogus or downright outlandish, why has fuel consumption suddenly reduced,if we were really as productive to be consuming such amount of perltrol.Have you driven along the west coast before as far as Togo atleast to see the unwholesome distribution of smuggled Nigerian petrol, have you been to places like seme, idiroko, ilela, jibia, maradi, lake chad borders etc and see the scale of smuggling that goes on in these places. People who benefit from this would complain because they are making money selling cheap subsidised petrol meter for Nigerians to non Nigerians and making a premium.
On the issue of tax,you and I would agree we do not pay enough tax in this country as compared to others and even the little is being stolen through different schemes.Companies leaving doesn't have any bearing on Nigeria's macroeconomic stability, for every single company that has left do you know how many has come in and still planning to come in ....take a drive along the Lagos -ibadan corridor for instance and see new factories springing daily as we speak.....what would you say about the new investments in oil and gas which has been stifled in the past due to unfavorable policies of govt.
People who had been benefitting from our dysfunctional rent seeking economy would complain and not make money anymore because now you have to be really productive and smart to do so.....rather than buying a car every year enriching other economies where this cars come from and calling that properity, you rather maintain the one you already have properly and put to good use.
Student loans aren't paltry but a huge game changer,my daughter is just about getting into an higher institution and I know what it costs to get a kid into a university but studentbloans would free up hitherto scarce funds for my family fir other productive endeavours. My claim of the bogus figures on smuggling was based on experience. My job takes me across West Africa so I have the facts, we did not in any way subsidize fuel consumption for other countries. On the issue of tax, I agree we have to deepen the tax net, but it is sheer wisdom to know when to apply the right timing. It makes no sense to increase taxation in a period of austerity, this makes you appear wicked and insensitive. Ghana with the new template for tax is actually bringing in measures to ease the tax burden and use tax as a means to spur production, while in Nigeria we are using tax just like how the park agberos collect their dues, this will not spur production, but rather it chases away business. Let us be sincere. On the student loan, time will tell if this can be sustained because I am wondering how the funding will be sustained with the decline in oil revenues and the unwillingness to harness our agricultural and solid mineral wealth. |

DeLaRue: In this case, some factors have not remained constant.
With prices in August and September hovering above N1000 in many areas, smuggling of petrol to neighbouring countries will have reduced.
Improvement in power supply in certain parts of the country has resulted in fewer people fueling their generators at the same level as before.
Finally, fuel price increase has resulted in many car owners cutting down on their car usage.
These 3 factors have contributed to usage levels crashing. The truth is our weak Naira made smuggling not to be an economically sensible option. Also note that smuggled fuel only accounts for less than 5% of the consumed fuel in those countries. Niger has a refinery ooooo and Buhari wanted to buy fuel from them at a time. Cameroon has a refinery. It is only the towns close to the Nigerian border that actually make use of smuggled fuel from Nigeria. The NNPC officials can no longer make bogus figures because fuel is sourced from Dangote refinery. |

Hasn't the corruption on subsidy been eradicated?
Hasn't the debt servicing ratio reduced?
Isn't Nigerian economy far more stable at the macro level?
Aren't people living their lives and many still making money despite your alarmist innuendos on the economy?
If you wish hunger and suffering on yourself so be it.....as for me,the subsidy removal is a great feat. Look there was nothing like bogus figures it was all propaganda. The claim that you were subsidising other neighbouring countries is borderline delusional. Niger build a refinery years ago and even Buhari at a point wanted to buy fuel from them. Cameroon has refineries too. Benin and Togo get fuels from France. The truth is the Nigerian smuggled fuel is used in border towns close to Nigeria which is less that 5% of the total consumption of these countries. You are talking about stability at macro level. Either you are high on grass or you are mischievously wicked. How can our indices be stable when companies are running away from investing in Nigeria preferring to go to Ghana instead. Did you see the new Ghana tax template, that is how to use taxation to stimulate production. But here they are using taxation to kill off businesses. Oga student loans is just miniscule bros. DeLaRue: The most reformist national government in the history of Nigeria.
If you disagree, name any government since independence that introduced anything on the scale of the numerous bold, courageous and fundamental economic changes that this man's government has taken in just 18 months.
The only government, though a regional one, that did better is the outstanding Western Nigeria government led by Chief Awolowo.
Did you see the strides the Eastern region made under M.I Okpara in 3years. Oga stop defying Awolowo. In his book he wrote how he sent people to study the way Eastern region organised the medical services
That is not to say that the ongoing changes are painless. They are not, and I hope the government finds a solution quickly to help the large proportion of the population that desperately needs help.
I still don't understand why it is proving so difficult for the government to transfer money to elderly people on a monthly basis. Ms Edu left the scene a long time ago, yet social payments have not resumed. Mr Tinubu, what the hell is going on
It is so painful to see so many needing help and not getting it while politicians are living fat. They claimed subsidy made gains. No it was actually FX gains from floating the Naira not subsidy removal. If for anything subsidy removal made Nigerians poorer than before. This FX gains translated to increased allocation because of more money from the floated rates, but again the hyper inflation that arose eroded these gains. You see these guys are so cool with lies and propaganda. |

The FG refused to sign the deal unless Exxon undertook to decommission the assets. If Seplat refuses to discharge its obligations in decommissioning the assets, the FG will hold Exxon for those assets.
Seplat is majorly owned by Mariel and Prom, a French E&P company. Plus NNPC got 10% for their right of first refusal. Hold on stop trying to be mischievous why would NNPC want them to decommission an asset they have sold based on a debt which they new entity will absorb? Also Seplat never said they were not going to honor their obligations. Make it make sense. You guys in a bid to spread propaganda always love to lie.
