BusinessSmall And Medium Businesses Can Catalyze Nigeria’s Growth by rebanj(op):
With financial services driving 27 percent of GDP growth in Nigeria's Q2 numbers, small and medium enterprises have been urged to leverage digital financial services in deepening value for improved productivity and business performance even as the nation's economy continues to confront several head winds.

This counsel was shared on the sidelines of the recently held Lagos International Trade Fair with the theme, Navigating Economic Challenges, Forging a Path to Prosperity, where leading digital financial services provider, Moniepoint Inc served as the official fintech partner at the 37th edition which was organized by the Lagos State Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

Speaking with journalists at the 10-day event which ended on Sunday, Vice President, Sales and Partnerships, Moniepoint Inc, Ifeanyi Duru noted that the Fair’s theme was apt and relevant to all businesses operating in Nigeria at this critical juncture of the nation’s socio-economic development.

“This year’s fair is significant because it coincides with the LCCI’s 135th anniversary and we are proud to be associated with such an illustrious brand. We recognize the importance of fostering connections and forging paths to prosperity, especially in the face of economic challenges that confront businesses and consumers. We remain resolute and committed to powering the dreams of millions of individuals and businesses. This event aligns with our mission to drive financial inclusion and economic empowerment, and we are delighted to be contributing to its overall success," Duru said.

He furthermore stressed that digital financial services can have a tangible impact on financial inclusion and the economy at large. DFS enhances the financial capabilities of consumers, catering to underserved segments of the population, and leveraging high mobile phone availability in Nigeria to foster economic growth by enabling new business models.

Asiwaju Dr Michael Olawale-Cole, LCCI President/Chairman of Council, who noted that this year's trade fair, which is the last he'd be conducting as chair is the largest exhibition for businesses across Africa, has held for an unbroken chain of 37 years and remained pivotal for networking businesses for wealth creation in the diverse eco-system.

“Over the years, the trade fair has grown to be another significant milestone in the economic life of Nigeria and the broader African continent. There is need to acknowledge the challenging economic environment that Nigeria has been facing in recent times, saying that “though some are necessary, these challenges have tested our resilience and have called for innovative solutions to foster economic growth and prosperity for our nation and for our people,” he said.

He thanked Moniepoint Inc and other organizations who supported the fair for coming through for the Chambers and lauded members of the LCCI Trade Promotion Board under the Chairmanship of Engr. Leye Kupoluyi for an outstanding performance. He noted that the organizers have taken note of the feedback vis-a-vis areas that require improvement, assuring that this will reflect in the 2024 LITF edition.

Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, who spoke virtually at the closing ceremony said that "To navigate the economic challenges and forge a path to prosperity, the Lagos State Government, particularly through the Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment is willing and ready to interface with you all, as we push the agenda of the present administration to support businesses by fostering a conducive environment and enhancing the ease of doing business in Lagos State.”

AutosMotorists Lose Engines, Pay More For Repairs Over Dirty Fuel Purchase by rebanj(op): 5:41pm On Feb 18, 2022
Motorists whose vehicles were affected by adulterated fuel imported by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, need to get new engines or incur higher costs to maintain the performance of their vehicles.
Depending on the level of damage to their vehicles, some are being advised to replace the engines, if they hope to get value for their money or spend an average of N100,000 to replace certain parts without guarantee of efficient output.
Some auto technicians who spoke to The Guardian said that motorists might end up spending about N100,000 to N150,000 depending on the brand of vehicles involved to fix the mess.
The technicians said dirty fuel in circulation affect everyone and it depends on the degrees of damages that the bad fuel has caused.
Service Manager of an auto-tech company, Fixit45, Odusina Abiodun, said some people got the fuel and almost immediately they noticed, while some people had used it for some time. The highest point is that it will spoil their fuel pumps and injector nozzles.
Abiodun explained that for repair of such vehicles, there is need to repair the fuel pump, injector and fuel line servicing.
“We have to clean the fuel reservoir. It’s either plastic or metal. If it’s a metallic material you may need to service it. Even if you change your fuel filter and injector without servicing the reservoir, it would still develop faults because there would still be left over particles in the tank. The fuel tank needs to be cleaned thoroughly, and then you now clean all the fuel lines.”
Speaking on the cost implications for repair, he said it depends on the brand of vehicles involved.
“If you are talking about Corolla for instance, you are looking at a fuel pump for Tokunbo, N30,000, with the whole assembly going to N50,000. Then you have to talk about the nozzle. You can service the nozzle, which could be like N5,000 to 10,000 depending on the mechanic or the workshop.
“Cleaning the fuel tank, that is about a two to three hours job, you might want to change about N15,000 or N20,000 for cleaning the entire system.
“Like I said, it depends on the type of brand. For some cars, you can remove the fuel pump just by removing the passenger seat at the back to get access to the fuel tank. But if it were to be for Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), you will have to drop the tanks. I mean, that is a lot of work,” Abiodun explained.
Besides, automobile experts had earlier warned fleet owners, especially corporate organisations, haulage companies and car owners to get set for engine-related challenges and drivability problems in their vehicles if fueled with the dirty petrol.
Founder of Automedics, Kunle Sonaike, had told The Guardian that the development might cause serious financial damages to motorists, stressing that dirty fuel is directly linked to engine-related, drive faults.
Sonaike insisted that there is a need for citizens to rise against consumption of dirty fuel in the country, stressing that the menace affects the country’s productivity with vehicles not only breaking down easily but also multiplying cost of repair.
While lamenting the inability to fix the nation’s refineries, he advised legal actions by citizens, noting that the multiplier impacts of driving vehicles with dirty fuel should not be accepted.
A roadside mechanic identified as Lucky, said: “Some of the bad fuels damage the nozzle, fuel pump and also service the injector. They would have to drill all the fuel in the tank. It doesn’t affect the engine. I have never heard anybody complain about the engine.
On the cost for repair, he said it depends on the brand of vehicle involved. For instance, repairs on a Toyota corolla, may cost between N25, 000 to 30,000.

BusinessFixit45 Announces Acquisition Of Parkit, Unveils Subscription-based VIP Programm by rebanj(op): 9:43am On Nov 28, 2021
Pan-African autotech platform acquires Parkit, to simplify vehicle wash and care services, releases Vehicle Intact Programme, subscription-based plans to enable affordable maintenance / repair services and redefine ownership experience for vehicle and fleet owners
Lagos, Nigeria – 26 November, 2021 – In demonstration of its stated commitment to facilitating value-creating interactions across stakeholders in the automotive industry, leading autotech platform, Fixit45 has announced the acquisition of Parkit, a network of tech enabled autocare and car wash centres.
Since its entry in to the market in July 2021, Fixit45 has been focused on building a platform that provides a seamless, collaborative infrastructure for interactions to occur across verticals that include auto repair and maintenance services, fleet management, auto parts sourcing and delivery, auto care, refurbishment and upgrades, repair financing and mechanic workshop software as well as pre-purchase inspections, underlying these with moderation for compliance and accountability.
Fixit45 caters to needs in the repair and maintenance segment, Parkit plays in the auto care vertical, Xparts is a discovery and trading platform for spare parts where you can explore a rich inventory, find exacts parts based on the platform’s AI tools and get these parts in very good time and Rampware is a Software-as-a-Service tool to help auto-workshops manage their operations and improve service delivery experience.
On the acquisition, Justus Obaoye, CEO and Co-Founder, Fixit45 said, "Parkit was committed to building out and digitizing the fragmented vertical in the autocare and car wash space. They provided business support, training and consumables to businesses and ensured that the experience was rewarding for fleet and car owners. We found synergies in what they were doing at the time and we approached them to join us in this journey to fix and build the aftermarket ecosystem which has culminated in the acquisition. Parkit has been fully integrated in the Fixit45 family and we look forward to providing market leadership."
According to Gerald Okonkwo, VP, Business Development, Fixit45 and Founder, Parkit, "our business was founded in June 2018 to use technology in making the customer journey for car washes very seamless by automating payments, helping them acquire the right tools for the job and providing professional care services that were not available in-country. This journey has been a collaborative experience and we are blessed to have found the right team at Fixit45 with bold ambitions to create value for consumers in this space. The acquisition was finalized in September 2021 and we are looking to many more wins. When we started, we had to import most of our consumables and materials, but today, we are to provide quality car shampoo, upholstery, tire and engine wash, polish and air fresheners. This is just one of many success stories that this acquisition has berthed."
Automobile ownership for car and fleet owners can be a frustrating experience owing to a myriad of factors that include highly fragmented, mostly unregulated industry, informal service providers who often lack the technical competence, as well as proliferation of counterfeit spare parts with a lack of warranty on repairs. These challenges in turn have also impacted the service delivery experience from service providers.
To change the narrative in the space, Fixit45 is collaborating with a lot of stakeholders and partners with a view to deepening value creation in the ecosystem. Some of these stakeholders include workshops, spare part suppliers, insurance companies, tow trucks, fintechs, and fleet owners.
The Fixit45 Vehicle Intact Programme (VIP) has been designed as the name suggests to delivering quality and affordable repair and maintenance services via subscription-based plans with a view to ensuring that the lifetime value of a vehicle or fleet is enhanced and productivity optimized. The rich bouquet of plans come in 4 packages that include the Service Plan, Maintenance Plan, Extended Services Plan and the Emergency Services Plan.
The Service Plan ensures that subscribers don't have to worry about workmanship and getting their vehicles in good shape. The Maintenance Plan is a commitment to a routine and or scheduled preventive maintenance which in turn mitigates the need for some repair work on the vehicle. The Extended Service Plan works as an HMO for vehicles in which subscribers transfer to us the duty of keeping their fleet and or vehicles operational at all times. Because breakdowns don’t announce themselves, the Emergency Service plan is designed to give comfort and succor to motorists in the event of a breakdown.
With presence across 4 cities in Nigeria, more than 100 network partners and over 2500 vehicles under management, Fixit45's ambition is to become Africa’s largest and most trusted autotech platform. “We have built a robust end-to-end ecosystem platform that caters for all players in the aftermarket segment. The industry has largely been based on brick-and-mortar operations and it is our intention to disrupt and digitize this space using technology,” said Abdulazeez Ogunjobi, Cofounder & CTO.

AutosCauses Of Car Paint Damages And How To Prevent It by rebanj(op): 11:57am On Nov 03, 2021
A car is subject to different forms of damages throughout its life cycle. Like every other part of a car, over time, damages on the car paint become visible, such as fading, chipping, and rusting. In this article, we share some causes of car paint damages and how to prevent them.

Why is your car paint fading?
The fading of your car paint can either be due to the breaking down of the paint pigment, or damage to the clear coat, i.e, the finish on top of the base coat of your car paint. Here are some reasons why this damage may occur:

Sunshine
The sun emits radiation called Ultra Violet (UV) rays which are a major cause of damage to car paint. Continuous exposure to UV rays will cause corrosion of the paint molecules and cause them to lose reflectivity. This loss of reflectivity causes the car paint to appear visibly dull overtime.

Bird droppings
Birds droppings are highly concentrated in uric acid. On long term contact, these highly acidic compounds can cause damage to car paint. Also, when they are not properly removed, they can do visible damage to car paint.

Harmful Chemicals
Different chemicals ranging from detergents to coffee may spill on the car paint. Although seemingly harmless, they cause long-term damage to car paint.

Type of paint
A single stage paint, which is a mixture of the colour and clear coat, is more susceptible to damage than a painting of base coat and clear coat separately.

Lack of maintenance
Like every other part of a vehicle, the car paint also needs proper auto care and maintenance in order to last. A vehicle that is washed and waxed regularly would be in better condition compared to one that isn’t.

How to Prevent the fading of your Car paint
Park your car in a shaded area
To prevent direct and long exposure to sunlight’s UV rays, park your cars in shaded areas especially during the day. Whether it is a garage or carport, parking in a shaded area would also prevent the likelihood of bird droppings. In cases where the shade is a tree, be sure to look out for those.

Use car covers
When there is no shade, a car cover can be a viable alternative. They are usually made of materials that refract sun rays away from the car and can serve as a protective layer from other agents like harsh chemicals, bad weather, and dirt.

Car cover
Wash your car regularly
Having a regular wash schedule for your car will prevent long exposure to chemicals or microdirts that can accumulate on the car without your knowledge. A proper wash every few weeks can go a long way in protecting your car paint. You can use a recommended car wash, or do it yourself using recommended car wash products. Remember, using detergents that are not suitable may expose your car to chemicals which do more damage than good.

Regular car detailing
Proper detailing by professionals can go a long way in protecting your car paint. We offer detailing services at fixit45. Our detailing process is comprehensive, using recommended products only. The detailing services also includes waxing.

Waxing your car every few months is a great way to protect your car paint and to retain its brightness and shine. There are a variety of waxes to choose from, you can decide whichever works for you. Proper application following the right directives would protect your car paint from other damaging factors including climate, and help it last longer.

Fix the fade
Faded paint may not always require a new coat of paint. Here are a few things you can do to bring it back to life:

Buffing: When the car paint is faded but the surface is still in good shape, buffing can be used to recover and polish the car paint. If done properly, buffing can redeem the shine of the car paint.
Repaint: Sometimes, the vehicle paint might be faded to the point where buffing cannot recover it, we recommend a repaint. Proper painting by professionals would have your car looking good as new.
In conclusion,
These processes are delicate, and a mistake can lead to more damage or even completely ruin your car paint. Therefore, instead of trying a DIY, get professionals to do it for you. Our highly skilled technicians offer valuable work at very affordable rates.

AutosFRSC Arrests 432 Defaulters In Operation Show Your Driver’s License II by rebanj(op): 12:27pm On Oct 22, 2021
The Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has arrested the owners of 432 vehicles for driving without a license. Sector Commander for Lagos, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide made this revelation at the end of the second phase of the Corps’ Operation Show Your Driver’s License which was held between October 4 and October 10, 2021. He noted that 252 of the impounded vehicles were commercial vehicles, while 180 were vehicles from private drivers.

The command had earlier bemoaned how owners of vehicles, tricycles, and bike riders ply the road without permits while adding that a high number of permanent driver’s licenses were yet to be picked from various FRSC stations. It will be recalled that phase 1 of “Operation Show Your Driver’s License” was conducted from July 5 to July 11.

According to the National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR) 2021, Regulation 67(1): ‘Any person driving a vehicle on any public road shall be in possession of an original driver’s license, but where the person is in possession of the photocopy of the original driver’s license, he shall within 24 hours produce the original driver’s license to the appropriate authority if demanded’.

“Regulation (2) goes on to state that: ‘Any person who contravenes the provision of regulation 67(1) of these regulation commits an offense and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of N10,000 or to a term of one-year imprisonment or to both.”

The FRSC insists that a valid license remains a major requirement for all drivers and that non-possession constitutes grave traffic infractions and endangers the lives of other road users.

For some road users, they feel that the road safety body hasn’t been very forthright seeing that many people are still using photocopies or temporary paper licenses. Others have argued that particular attention must be paid to ensuring that people learn how to drive from accredited driving schools.

“I can tell if someone went to a good driving school from the way they drive. I can also tell if they were taught by a panel beater in one school field.”

It is anticipated that these special patrols by the FRSC would continue as a result of the ember months season where a lot of vehicular movement has come to be associated with it.

AutosIs Your Car Being A Jerk Ass? Here Are 5 Things To Probe by rebanj(op): 2:32pm On Oct 21, 2021
You are driving on the expressway way and all of a sudden, your car begins to jerk and splutter. I can see droplets of sweat making a 7-2-1 formation over your head. You then try to hit the accelerator, and the jerk hits harder. Confirmed, your ride has become a jerk ass. This scenario described is a common challenge faced by car owners. Most times it is symptomatic of a larger problem. The good news is that it has got several solutions depending on the root cause. Let’s examine a few reasons why your car might jerk while in motion.

Air Filter Check
Your car may be jerking because of dirty air filters. Air filters are designed to rid your car of pollutants such as dirt, dust, debris, and other things that contaminate the engine. Over time, these pollutants accumulate in the filter and affect air intake leading to inefficient fuel combustion.

Quick fix – remove and wipe off the air filter or install a new filter.

Fuel Injector Check
This is sort of closely aligned to the first point around dirty air filters. Fuel injectors are the conduit through which fuel is injected into the engine. The injector sprays spurts of petrol into the engine’s intake manifold. Clearly, a dirty injector will affect the distribution and can lead to engine misfiring, loss of power, and jerking as well.

Quick fix – A fuel injector cleaner should do the trick. However, we have seen cases where the injectors are clogged with huge carbon deposits and so need to be handled by a professional technician. Regular checks for your fuel injector and air filters are advised.

Where’s the Spark
Another suspect when you start your car in the morning and it greets you with a jerking movement is your spark plug. Something fishy might be going on with them. Plugs typically, are responsible for delivering electric current from the ignition system to the combustion chambers. So, if it’s faulty or dirty, there’ll be no good spark, and igniting the fuel in the piston cylinders would be labored. Obvious signs of spark plug problems include noise from the engine, poor fuel economy, and loss of power.

Quick fix – change the spark plugs and while you are at that don’t forget to check ignitions wires and coil packs during your routine maintenance as they are prone to be worn out.

Restricting Fuel Flow
Fuel supply issues can also cause your car to jerk while in motion. As we have established, when a sufficient dosage of fuel isn’t supplied to the engine, then wahala dey and forward surging movement is a sure banker. Reasons for this might include a clogged fuel filter, or the fuel pump is working sub-optimally and isn’t supplying the engine.

Quick fix – replace the fuel filter or get a qualified professional from Fixit45 to check out the fuel pump.

Oluwa wetin dey catalyze
Jerking movement in cars can also be attributed to a blocked or damaged catalytic converter (CC). CCs regulate emissions coming out of the vehicle’s exhaust. Air and fuel mixtures that flow through the CC can become very rich and lead to a blockade over time. The results include stuttering movement on acceleration, the release of hydrogen sulfide which smells like rotten egg, and the check engine light which would be on the instruments cluster.

Quick Fix – while some motorists are able to use a good catalytic converter cleaner to solve the problem, it is best advised that you consult a trusted mechanic as CCs don’t come cheap.

Some other indicative reasons while your car could be jerking include

Bad engine tuning
Blockage in the engine
Perforated fuel pipes
Damaged carburetor
Faulty transmission control module or solenoid
Condensation happening under the distributor cap
Faulty throttle position sensor
Spoilt acceleration cable.
Considering that there are many potential reasons for a jerking vehicle, one sure proof method of being 100% certain is to take your car to a Fixit45 experience center. At these centers, our highly knowledgeable technical advisors can properly diagnose and fix any of these issues. In return, you get to drive with peace of mind knowing we’ve got you covered with genuine and transparent spare parts.

Next time when your car begins to jerk while you drive, I can see you smile with a cool, calm, and collected demeanor.

AutosFixit45 Set To Redefine Auto Aftermarket Experience Across Nigeria by rebanj(op): 12:56pm On Oct 11, 2021
Pan-African automotive aftermarket platform to enable affordable repair services and redefine service experience for car owners and corporates
Against the backdrop of rising demand for quality automotive repair & maintenance services occasioned by the increasing vehicle age and poor state of many Nigerian roads, Fixit45, a leading tech enabled automotive aftermarket platform has declared its commitment to redefining service experience and enabling value-creating interactions across stakeholders within the automotive aftermarket segment.
A cursory examination of the automotive landscape in Nigeria would reveal a broken condition - defined as a highly fragmented, mostly unregulated industry that is dominated by a lot of informal service providers who often lack the technical competence or the know-how to deliver quality service. The industry is also beset by proliferation of counterfeit spare parts with a lack of warranty on repairs. Lastly, the traditional service and maintenance industry has remained largely untouched by the digital revolution, with many individual car owners and corporate fleet owners still going the non-transparent and time-consuming route.
Fixit45 combines an online-to-offline strategy and unique approach of deploying digital technology with local expertise to deliver exceptional service across the verticals that include Auto services, auto parts sourcing, auto care, refurbishment, roadside assistance and repair financing. Backed by a well-vetted and certified network of well distributed multi-brand car service centres that specialize in vehicle diagnosis, repairs, and maintenance, business owners and individuals are better empowered with information to reduce the cost of vehicle management and maximize their lifetime value.
According to the Founder/CEO, Justus Obaoye, Fixit45's reason for being is rooted in the fact that quality repair and maintenance services ensures a fixed level of vehicular reliability which in turn improves the chances of economic mobility and productivity.

"Traditionally, individuals and corporates own new and used vehicles that will need to be upgraded, repaired, serviced, and maintained. Following the pandemic, a trend that has now emerged has seen many preferring to repair and or upgrade their existing vehicles in order to enhance their mobility assets and trade-in value, as opposed to buying new or foreign used cars. A quality repair and maintenance regime is pivotal to optimizing performance, service life, and reliability of these vehicles.”
“At Fixit45, we are leveraging technology to address fundamental issues in the fragmented auto aftermarket space and liberate people and businesses from the clogs that have prevented them from enjoying their mobility assets.
