DeLaRue: Great.
If we can hit 6% in 2 years time, and hopefully 7 or 8% annual growth by 2029/2030, that would be magnificent.
A Nigerian economy growing at a 7 or 8% per annum over a sustained period will lift millions out of poverty. Na statistics we go shop? |

NYSC › Re: Corp Member Shows Off His First Meal After Receiving N77K Allowance (Video) by redcliff: 2:51pm On Mar 28, 2025 |
IntelLord: Please, kindly give me the analysis.
I'd like to have a full understanding of why N77k of today is less than N17k of back then (given the factors of inflation, naira devaluation, etc). ₦19,000 in 2011 as a corper is worth more than ₦77,000 in 2025 with same title because of inflation and currency devaluation over time. 1. Inflation and Loss of Purchasing Power Nigeria has experienced high inflation for over a decade. Inflation reduces the real value of money. In 2011, ₦19,000 could buy significantly more goods and services than ₦77,000 can in 2025. In 2011, ₦19,000 could pay a month’s rent for a small flat in some urban areas within Lagos By 2025, ₦77,000 might not cover half that rent in the same area. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) has increased sharply. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, inflation averaged: Around 10% in 2011. Over 28% in 2024. This means cumulative inflation over 14 years could easily exceed 300–400%. 2. Currency Devaluation The naira has lost significant value against foreign currencies, especially the US dollar: In 2011: ₦155 = $1 In 2025: ₦1,400+ = $1 (parallel market rate) So: ₦19,000 in 2011 = $122.5 ₦77,000 in 2025 = ~$55 Even in dollar terms, ₦19,000 in 2011 had more global value. 3. Real-World Example A bag of rice: 2011: ₦8,000 2025: ₦75,000+ In 2011, ₦19,000 could buy over two bags. In 2025, ₦77,000 may barely buy one. The nominal amount of money increased, but its real value fell. This reflects a loss in economic stability and purchasing power. |

fergie001: A Constitution Amendment Bill seeking to return the Country to a Parliamentary System of Government has passed a second reading at the House of Representatives.
The Minority Leader and Reps member representing Obio-Akpor Federal Constituency, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda (PDP - Rivers) & 59 others in their proposed bill advocate the Office of Prime Minister as Head of Government.
"A Bill for An Act to alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to provide for the Office of Prime Minister as Head of Government and the Office of the President as Head of State and to provide for a framework the the mode of election to the said offices and for Related Matters (HB. 1115)." Why dont we have presidents for the geo political zones we have then 1 prime minister or head of govt for external affairs? |
Politics › Re: Bill On Indigene Status After 10 Years Of Residence Passes Second Reading by redcliff: 7:46am On Mar 27, 2025 |
yemmit90: It doesn't matter sir, Nigeria is a very diverse interogeneuous society with a well recognised indigenous people that have something in common.
You don't expect a total stranger to one day come out and attempt to lead them in the name of claiming indigine after living there for a certain period of time without causing a bloody crisis within the same society.
There are thing we the present generation need to avoid to ease off problems for future one. It would've made sense if the bill is focus on a situation where all Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo will become indigenes within every state that is primarily occupied by their fellow ethnics.
Except we are pretending not to know, you and I know that the purpose of the bill is to make Lagos a no man's land and nothing else. But you will go abroad, stay 20years and expect them to recognize you as such? |
Politics › Re: Bill On Indigene Status After 10 Years Of Residence Passes Second Reading by redcliff: 6:49am On Mar 27, 2025 |
yemmit90: It is a bill that shouldn't have been consider in the first place, the target of the bill sponsors and its apologists is Lagos. It means all other ethnic groups that have been in Lagos for long would automatically become indigenes.
It is an attempt to turn Lagos to no man's land and subsequently create serious crisis or civil war in future. If them really ask you now, the lagos wey u dey defend, one single property you no get there. |

Judolisco: oga... Others had d money and built a brewery instead As you mentioned a clue linking to Peter Obi, it means he is the standard. Every state have their unique issues and that is why governors are there to figure what those issues are and tackle them, even if Obi invested in a brewery, is that the only thing he did? Is that even the major thing he did? How many governors left millions of dollars in state coffers for others to use? Una no go see that one na onlt brewery you see dey talk. Na why una deserve people like Tinubu and Akpabio to dey show una shege! Ndeara! |
