The Categories of People Who Will Vote for Tinubu in 2027 Elections

Nigerians do not all vote for a politician for the same reason.

Some vote because of their tribe. Some because of religion. Some because they belong to a political party. Some believe the government is doing a good job. Others vote because they expect money, jobs, contracts, appointments, or other benefits.

Some people also support the person who is already in power because they believe staying close to government is better for them.

So, if we want to understand the people who may vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, we have to look at the different reasons people may have for supporting him.

1. The Yoruba Christian Base

Tinubu is a Muslim, but his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, is a Christian and a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

For some Yoruba Christians, this may create a special connection with the presidency.

Their thinking may be:

**"The President is Muslim, but the First Lady is a Christian and one of us."**

There can also be another reason.

Some people believe that being close to the presidency can bring opportunities, influence, appointments, and access to government.

So, for some politically connected Christians, supporting Tinubu may also mean supporting a government in which someone from their religious and ethnic community is very close to the centre of power.

This does not mean that all RCCG members will vote for Tinubu. Churches have millions of members with different political opinions.

But the connection between Tinubu, his Yoruba background, his Christian wife, and her position as an RCCG pastor could influence some voters.

For some people, the question may become:

**"Why should we move away from someone who has put one of our own so close to power?"**

2. The Ethnic Voters: "Your Tribe Is Your Tribe"

Let us be honest about Nigerian politics.

Tribe still matters.

Many Nigerians may say that they want a united Nigeria, but when elections come, some people still think about their ethnic group.

For some Yoruba voters, Tinubu being Yoruba can be a strong reason to support him.

The same thing can happen with other groups. Some Igbo voters may feel strongly about an Igbo candidate. Some Hausa/Fulani voters may feel strongly about a northern candidate.

The political tension between some Yoruba and Igbo groups, and between some Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani groups, can also influence how people think about the election.

The thinking can become very simple:

**"If we don't support our own people, who will support us?"**

This does not mean every Yoruba person will vote for Tinubu.

But ethnicity can affect how some people see political power.

Instead of asking:

**"Who has the best ideas?"**

some voters may ask:

**"Who do we want our people to have power?"**

That is why ethnicity will probably remain an important part of the 2027 election.

3. The Voters Who Want Money for Their Vote

There is another group that looks at elections differently.

They believe:

**"My vote is worth money."**

These voters may accept money, food, transportation, gifts, or other benefits from politicians.

Their thinking is:

**"Politicians need my vote. If they want it, they should give me something."**

Vote buying is not something that belongs to only one political party. It has been reported in Nigerian elections involving different parties.

We have also seen people on social media showing money they said they received during elections.

For example, there was a social-media discussion involving a young woman in Ekiti who celebrated money she said she received after selling her vote.

The important point is not whether one particular video proves widespread vote buying.

The bigger point is that some Nigerians have developed a **transactional attitude toward voting**.

They do not necessarily ask:

**"Which candidate will build the best Nigeria?"**

They ask:

**"What am I getting today for my vote?"**

Such voters may support whoever is willing and able to give them the most immediate benefit.

4. APC Members and Political Foot Soldiers

This is one of Tinubu's strongest groups.

Tinubu is not an ordinary candidate coming from outside government.

He is the sitting president and the leader of the APC government.

The APC has governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, state lawmakers, local government leaders, ward leaders, youth groups, women's groups and thousands of party supporters across the country.

These people have already invested time and energy in the APC.

Many of them want the party to remain in power.

Why?

Because political power affects their future.

If APC remains in power, they may continue to have:

* political positions;
* influence;
* access to government officials;
* opportunities to contest elections;
* government appointments;
* contracts;
* and political connections.

So an APC foot soldier may think:

**"We worked to put this government in power. We must work to keep it there."**

This is important because elections are not won only on Facebook, TikTok, X or WhatsApp.

Someone must go from house to house.

Someone must organize the ward.

Someone must mobilize voters.

Someone must monitor polling units.

Someone must bring people out to vote.

That is what political foot soldiers do.

5. Political Appointees and Government Beneficiaries

This group is closely connected to the APC foot soldiers, but it is different.

These are people who already benefit directly from being connected to government.

They may have government appointments, contracts, political positions, businesses connected to government, or strong relationships with people in power.

For them, a Tinubu victory means **continuity**.

If Tinubu loses, they may lose their appointments, contracts, influence, or access to government.

So their thinking may be:

**"If this government stays, I remain connected to power."**

This does not necessarily mean they love Tinubu.

It means they have a personal reason to want the government to continue.

6. The "Give Tinubu More Time" Voters

Some Nigerians genuinely believe Tinubu is doing the right thing.

They know that life has become difficult.

They know that food is expensive.

They know that fuel is expensive.

They know that many businesses are struggling.

But they believe the government is making difficult changes that will eventually help the country.

Their argument is:

**"The medicine is painful, but we need to finish the treatment."**

They may believe that removing subsidies, changing the foreign-exchange system, increasing government revenue, and making other reforms will eventually produce a stronger economy.

These voters are different from people supporting Tinubu because of tribe or money.

They are supporting him because they believe his policies will eventually work.

The big question for this group is simple:

**"Will life be better by 2027?"**

If they believe the answer is yes, they may remain with Tinubu.

If they believe the answer is no, some may change their minds.

7. The "Our People Are Close to Power" Voters

Some voters care about having someone they know or identify with close to the government.

They may think:

**"Our governor is close to Tinubu."**

or:

**"Our people have appointments in Abuja."**

or:

**"Our community is getting government attention."**

For these voters, political power is about access.

Who can get a road built?

Who can get a government appointment?

Who can take a community problem to Abuja?

Who can speak directly to the people in government?

If they believe their group has better access under Tinubu, they may prefer that arrangement to continue.

8. The Anti-Obi and Anti-Opposition Voters

Some people may vote for Tinubu without being strong Tinubu supporters.

Their reason may simply be that they do not want the alternative.

For example, someone may say:

**"I don't like everything Tinubu is doing, but I don't want Peter Obi."**

Another person may say:

**"I don't trust Atiku."**

Another may believe that the opposition parties are too divided.

This type of voter is important because elections are sometimes not about choosing the candidate you love.

Sometimes it is about choosing the candidate you dislike the least.

The thinking becomes:

**"I may not love Tinubu, but I prefer him to the other candidates."**


A Tinubu voter does not necessarily have to love Tinubu.

They only have to believe that **voting for Tinubu is better for them, their family, their tribe, their religion, their community, their business, or their political interests than voting for someone else.**

And that may be one of the biggest questions of the 2027 election:

**Will Nigerians vote for the person they believe is best for Nigeria, or will they vote for the person they believe is best for themselves and their group?**

Which Category is the Nelfund benefitiaries, their parents and also the Tertiary institutions workers and all those doing biz with students like landlords, food vendors, photocopy and biz centres whose biz have remain steady and consistent profits without any kind of ASUU Strikes etc.....for Ur info new tertiary students will be resuming this month and are expected to have a steady uninterrupted academic season ....

These ones I mentioned will vote for Tinubu
