Do you know if your mother in law was repeating what her son told her about you. I wish I knew all about covert narcissist traits when I started questioning my own marriage. Please do not waste your time focusing on your husband's behaviour as this may drain you emotionally. Focus on developing yourself and have a plan. Believe in yourself and do not let anyone dull your sparkle

Your husband may be a narcissist. People with narcissistic personality disorder tend not to care about their wives/husbands' welfare. They are very controlling and lack empathy. It took me almost 20 years to find an answer to why my husband was extremely nice to everyone except me. As others have suggested, look for ways to boost your income and network. Best wishes
