Yeah but I finally figured it out. David Poz was a big influence in my purchase of the BYD batteries. I have watched his videos and set ups countless times.

The batteries actually have 8 cells, not 7 like you mentioned and he connected his in 48v set up. I will be connecting mine in 24v set up then parallel all the individual cells like he did. This will help me eliminate having multiple BMS as system will be one big pack.

See my diagram of what I think is the parallel connection he did.

Apologies, your diagram is not too clear to me.
Had another look at video yt= dan-phillips-20191212 BYD 24v battery breakdown.
You're right: the BYD does have 8 cells, not 7 as I earlier referred in error.

Below is my diagram of how I think he rewired the cells to attain 8 batteries in parallel, with a 4p2s8p configuration. He essentially “broke open” the modules to reach the individual cells. He then rewired the cells to achieve 4P2S8P. Parallel connection of the initial cells of 4 modules. Parallel the initial 4 cells of his other 4 modules. Series connection the 1st column cell of first module with first column cell of the 5th. Repeat the first column 2S wiring of cells for each of the other 7 columns.

I have been doing some research with AC & DC coupling of solar into a Victron inverter-charger.
Using a Fronius Primo 4-6-1-Light for AC coupling, and a Victron MPPT 150/70 (thanks, Saipro!) for the DC coupling.

Will be reporting some of my findings in due course.

For now, I can predict that this sort of system has incredible potential to generate significant electricity at low costs and high reliability into the utility grid, if backed with

My brother na really adventure oo. I actually bought 3 types of batteries after watching a lot of YouTube on set ups and performance.

1.) 57 modules of Nissan Leaf
2.) 6 packs of BYD batteries
3.) 100 cells of 38120 LFP

Did you ask an earlier question? About how David Poz rearranged his collection of 8 packs 24v (25,2v) BYD in the video : Parallel Cells in Big LiFePO4Battery Modules. He found some weaker cells in the modules. What I think is this>>

There are 7 cells inside each of the BYD modules.

In his earlier video: davidpoz-20191211_ Series Connecting 24v Modules into a 48v Battery Bank, he did a (7s)2s4p arrangement. So he had a bank of 4 batteries, each consisting of 2 units of 24v modules, each of which contained 7 cells in series.

In the later video: davidpoz-20200207_ Parallel Cells in big LIFePO4 Battery Modules, he basically broke open the modules and connected the individual cells in a 4p2s7p arrangement. So he had a bank of 7 batteries, each consisting of 8 cells. Each of the 7 has 4 modules, each with 2 cells in series.

I hope this helps

We need to start preparing to bring EV and PHEV vehicles into Nigeria.
Let those who have solar or big generators install their own EVSE and charge from home.

emyfine08:
Please house I have 5kva inverter 24v not yet set it up
My load Watts is about 3000w
I need set it up for 24hr uninterrupted power supply come rain come shines.
What du I need for the set up?.Thanks in advance

You start with Analysis & Design.
Analyse the loads, existing electrical infrastructure, potential sites of installation, power demand patterns, energy time of use.
Design from the batteries, to solar production, to the power control & conversion hardware, and the monitoring software..

You want 3000W for 24 hours, whatever it costs?!
With respect to truthbetold2, we will accept that you have prior needful for energy efficiency measures.

On to the mathematics!
3000W x 24hours = 72000Wh/day or 72kWh that must come from energy storage and or solar power, via the inverters. "Come rain or shine (kongo?)" means prepare for 2-3 days autonomy, so minimum of 2x72kWh = 144kWh of storage batteries.

To save space, money and complexity, you will likely want lithium-based storage, rather than lead-acid storage. Assuming 5kWh-usable LiFePO4 ESS packs that you can pre-order from RITILITY, 144/5 = 28-30 units. If you go with Pylontech 2.4kWh ESS, you will need 60. If BYD 13.8kWh, you will need 10-12. You will probably prefer high-voltage (HV) DC storage and inverters rather than 48v (51.2v/56v) which is low voltage (LV) DC. A single RITILITY 60kW/180kWh ESS would be sufficient. But HV inverter systems prefer to be not on Nigeria’s bad-grid. So its back to three-phase 48VDC and you are effectively paying for a micro-grid solution.

You then need enough solar PV panels and charge converters to BOTH carry your daytime loads during average 5 sunlight hours per day. For your size, a combination of DC-coupling AND AC-coupling should be in the design. Your solar needs to produce 77kwh / 5 PSH/day, or about 15-16kW per day. Allow for clouds and birds, You are now in NiyiOmolyunade’s territory.

Solar components vary greatly in the quality of build and efficiency. Assuming a solid, conservative brand such as JASolar or TrinaSolar, and using the 330W panel as example. Do you have enough space on your roof, or in your compound to fit the panels?!

Next, you pick your inverters: LV, HV, All-in-one, off-grid, on-grid, hybrid?
Control and monitoring software? Battery Cell-level? Remote monitoring? Remote support?
Mounting and cable routing?
Back-up gensets, with automatic start-stop?
AC electrical distribution?
Maintenance and repair care plan? Strongly recommended!

So with that devices you are selling here, are you trying to say that the whole cabinet is possible here anyway for many many reasons? I do not clearly understand what is going on here totally and completely out there. I do not see that coming, but want to try your device. I mean charging whole office.

Yes, I am saying the entire office can be powered by solar energy if there is sufficient space to put the solar panels, on the roof or a nearby carpack or spare ground. We can be very creative in finding space for your solar panels! If there is insufficient space for solar panels, we may still be able to combine enough energy storage system (ESS) with generator power and any available PHCN to carry your loads. Get in touch for your solution.

In a sane society, nobody should be doing PROFESSIONAL solar installations without prior qualifications and field experience as an electrical contractor.
If its DIY on your own property, that's your own risk.

Looks like lithium market is going to be interesting this year, ofcourse with expectation for some disappointments as well.
Indeed 2020 will bring “interesting times” in the independent power economy of Nigeria. Note that the Chinese saying “may you live in interesting times”, is not meant as wish-you-well and easy fortune; it is a caution for preparedness and fortitude.

In the coming manna of LiFePO4, there will be hierarchy of quality and competency in the components, wiring, and software programming of the “energy storage systems” (ESS). LiFePO4 and other lithium based batteries are part of ESS, they are aspects of integrated systems; they are not stand-alone boxes that can just replace your existing lead-acid battery, kWh for kWh.

Beware the “affordable” lithium battery! These will likely flood Nigeria soon as they will be priced at or below ₦250,000 per 2.4kWh, attractive enough to compare with the ₦120,000 - ₦175,000 price points of the average-to-leading 12v 200ah lead-acid batteries. Many of these "drop-in, lead-acid-replacement" lithiums are sold in sealed enclosures cool, with battery management systems (BMS) that are either inadequate in their tolerance of variable current draw, high operating temperatures, frequent power surges and outages, or simply lack a means of communicating with external controls , or of reprogramming the BMS to suit the particular strengths or deficiencies of the intended battery charger lipsrsealed.

How do you plan on managing the tight-margins on charge/discharge voltages demanded by lithium-based batteries or ambient operating temperatures above 35ºC in high humidity / high dust conditions?! In fact, you will likely need to ditch all you used to hold important for handling lead-acid-batteries, and throw away your lead-acid battery charger that claims to have a “lithium algorithm”, if you are to minimise expe₦sive lessons.

On the other hand, the price of lead-acid batteries should lower to more realistic levels. For years, the lead-acid battery mafia has managed to hold prices artificially high. That old game plan may change because the majority of the incoming LiFePO4, which will likely use grade B cells, zero warranties, and compromised BMSes to achieve affordable prices, may yet still deliver superior performance per kWh to compare with the over-rated AGMs or the finicky Gels, or the space-hugging FLAs.

But, please, don’t believe in “LiFePO4 can deliver over 3000 daily cycles at 100% DOD”!

Sorry i was not online yesterday night. The Pylontechs us300plus cost like 1500€ at my end
Agreed with desiji,
Pylontech US3000B, the 3.5kWh version can set one back GBP1200 plus 20% VAT. The main issue is shipping, because these lithium batteries are considered as dangerous goods. One distributor wants GBP2500 per battery plus 20% VAT to deliver each battery to Nigeria.

So, a better solution may be direct import from China. However beware that many low-cost LiFePO4 packs are made from B-grade used EV batteries and have non-robust BMS.

By the way, I will soon have a good deal that features RS485 and is made with top-10 OEM cells and BMS. Currently priced at NGN1,257,855 for 48v 5.8kWh, including installation. It is rack-mountable, with handles and a 10-year Performance Guarantee from RITILITY. Bulk prices negotiable.

I have expressions of interest from corporate customers for complete energy storage solutions (ESS) featuring 5 yr+ warranty, SOC alarms, CAN and RS485 comms, etc. So, if you have a good import deal or want to be part of profitable investment, call +234/0 81 O 337 O 89 O 9 for discussions.

I was in a bank the other day to market these high-calibre ESS.
The guy in charge said that they already have back-up generator and each computer station has its own UPS.
As he was saying this, PHCN/NEPA took light.
The banking hall went dark, in mid day, while the sun was shining hot outside.
For a few minutes, everybody stood still, while the UPS stations stated screwing that annoying alarm sound.
Then a mighty roar as the back up generator started up. And died, A second roar as a bigger back-up for the first backup kicked into life.
Consuming litres of diesel, and belching thick toxic fumes into the surroundings.
Within a half-hour, PHCN/NEPA was back.

All the noisy beep, beep, beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, nuisance smells, poisonous fumes, embarrassment of stop-work, danger of inflammable fossil fuels in close proximity to confined premises, lost profits due to maintenance and repair costs of over-large generators, all that, could be better managed at lower costs, with a LiFePO4 ESS.

@simydan..Kudos for this impressive thread..

I went to Alibaba and i saw quite a fair good deals on Lithium like the link below..

https://m.made-in-china.com/product/24V-200ah-32650-LiFePO4-Lithium-Ion-Battery-Price-877417665.html

My lil queries are:

1) Can we trust these merchants to deliver a good product and can your link offer us a cheaper and viable alternative grin

5) Can an area with a paltry 3 hours power supply per day match your energy performance, assuming the solar option isn't functional..

Abeg... No mind my plenty questions oo... Consider me a friend in neeeeeeeed.

I will answer your questions in light of the "ridiculous prices" comment made by simydan.
Q1 - 4
The FOB price from China is USD920-USD1104 for the 24v 200ah battery. This sort of battery retails for about USD1650 on ebay-com. By the time you add international shipping and a modest mark-up profit, the retail price in Lagos may become about USD1700. At ₦360/ USD1, the price is ₦612,000 for 24v 4800Wh. Multiply by 2 for 48v 4800Wh - ₦1,240,000. Is this a cheap alternative? Wait...

Remember I am offering 5.6kWh, so the equivalent price for the above DIY setup is 5600/4800 x 1,240,000 = ₦1,428,000. For a DIY battery that only has internal BMS of suspect quality, has no warranty, no additional safety features, and is held together with nuts and bolts probably by a DIY person who may not have even a torque wrench, or enough electrical competency training!

Contrast with Ritility offer of ₦1,257,000 for a factory-built energy storage solution that is deployed in data-centres by top business enterprises. It has laser-welded connectors, manufacturer’s warranty of 5 years or 5MWh throughput, and multiple, redundant protective devices.
Is it really ridiculous pricing to pay less money for better quality components and access to professional help?

Q5
If the solar option is not functional, you will need large-capacity inverter-chargers to replenish your batteries during the 3 hours of PHCN or long periods of diesel/petrol generator input, to carry your loads for the remaining 21 hours. I will suggest you contact a professional solar contractor who may be able to find alternative sites for solar PV to power your loads.

You cant really predict what the present or future occupants will want to power. Once 24/7 power is available, all bets are off. cool
Your best bet may be a 'pico-grid' of 2-3 inverters in parallel with a single battery bank, and separate meters installed in a locked location.
Cheap and reliable and durable is not available! You may have to choose cheap and reliable but not durable, or reliable and durable but not cheap.

mktinsight:
Thanks for the info guys.

I have more questions. Lets say you have six rental units. These units have the exact same configuration - 2 fans, 1 tv, LED lights. Occupancy of these units ranges from 25% (quarter full) to 100% during the course of the year. Lets say you want to use an inverter to power these units as a standby with a minimum of 12 hours per day:

1) Would you install 6 Separate inverters and batteries in each unit or 1 big inverter with a battery bank?
2) What battery configuration would you need to supply at least 12 hours of standby power per day?
3) Please explain which setup is more efficient, cheaper, easier to maintain

Thanks
