oneplus 5 -- the flagship killer, release date rumoured to be in june 2017

tions?
OnePlus has grown from a tiny startup that struggled to meet user demand to one of the most sought after smartphone brands in just a few short years. Following the 2016 launch of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, next month the company will announce the OnePlus 5.
That's right, the next OnePlus flagship will be known as the OnePlus 5, and not the OnePlus 4 as many had expected. Whether this is because it is the fifth-generation flagship, following the OnePlus One, 2, 3 and 3T, or because the number 4 is considered to be bad luck in China is not known.
OnePlus has confirmed to The Verge that the next handset would indeed be the OnePlus 5, and that it would launch this summer. It has since then posted links to the site's resulting story on social media with the tagline 'True story', and more recently posted a 'Hello 5' teaser on Weibo that reads 'Hey Summer! Give me five!'
Hey Summer, give me 5
OnePlus has always referred to its phones as flagship killers - unbeatable specs at unbeatable prices. In 2017 things look to continue in that trend, and thanks to the Samsung Galaxy S8's exclusivity rights on the Snapdragon 835 processor the late-coming OnePlus 5 will have fewer rivals with which to compete.
The LG G6 was forced to launch with the Snapdragon 821, for example, while the HTC U has not yet been announced. Even Sony's Xperia XZ Premium has yet to go on sale in the UK.

The OnePlus 3T was a great phone, but it featured little more over the OnePlus 3 than a processor-, battery- and camera bump. It's still available to buy, though stocks are reportedly running low on 128GB models - OnePlus is unlikely to replenish these with a new 128GB model on the way.
When is the OnePlus 5 release date?
We expect the OnePlus 5 to be announced in June 2017, and to go on sale shortly after.
The company doesn't stick to an annual release date schedule as do other phone makers, with the OnePlus One launched in April 2014, the OnePlus 2 in July 2015 and the OnePlus 3 in June 2016. The OnePlus 3T followed in November 2016.
To be fair, the longest gap here is between the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2, during which time the fairly new company was struggling to keep up with demand and meet such unexpected popularity. Following the OnePlus 2 it has proved much more adept at churning out phones with the OnePlus X, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.
OnePlus 4 concept
How much will the OnePlus 5 cost?
There's little to go on when it comes to the OnePlus 5 but various speculations suggest a tag of around $500 - another price increase as the 3T costs $440. In the UK, that could mean a jump from the current price of £399 up to around £449. That's still cheaper than competing flagships, of course.

The OnePlus 5 was recently listed on Oppo Mart at $450, which sounds about right.
What does the OnePlus 5 look like?
While the specification has leaked online, few images of the OnePlus 5 have been sighted. The images in the rest of this article are concepts, but the one below is said to be the real deal (source). If true, it tells us two things: there will be a black model, and the OnePlus 5 will feature a dual-camera at the rear. No fingerprint scanner is to be seen here, which means it must still be placed at the front.
OnePlus 5
We also have this earlier sketch of a prototype OnePlus 5 handset that recently appeared on Weibo, revealing a dual-camera, Alert Slider and ceramic shell.
OnePlus 5 prototype
What are the rumoured features and specifications?
OnePlus 5 Key specifications
Processor 2.35GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core 64-bit
Graphics Adreno 540
Memory 8GB DDR4 RAM
Storage 128GB
Display 5.5in Quad-HD AMOLED
Operating system Oxygen OS, based on Android 7.0 Nougat
Battery 4,000mAh Dash Charge
There has never been any doubt that OnePlus will want to use the same processor as the Samsung Galaxy S8 in its flagship killer, which means it will come with the 2.35GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. This integrates an Adreno 540 GPU.

The Snapdragon 835 is the first Qualcomm processor to be made with a 10nm process, which will bring various improvements including performance and efficiency, which in turn will result in better battery life for devices.
So far so Galaxy S8. But whereas Samsung's flagship still has just 4GB of RAM, the OnePlus 5 will come with at least 6GB (as per the OnePlus 3T) and potentially 8GB. The chip can support this much memory, certainly.
Leaked benchmarks show mind-blowing performance from the OnePlus 5:
OnePlus 5 benchmark
Interestingly, the score is much higher than the 4GB RAM Galaxy S8, but also the 6GB RAM Xiaomi Mi6 (both feature the same processor). So this could well be evidence of 8GB of RAM.

The OnePlus 5 was recently listed on Oppo Mart with an accompanying screenshot showing 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It's not the most reliable of sources, however, so take it with a pinch of salt.
From what Carl Pei has said the OnePlus 5 is going to have an AMOLED display, and we expect OnePlus to stick to its 5.5in dimensions. Whether it will move to a Quad-HD screen remains to be seen, but the company must balance holding on to its value crown and having the necessary specs for mobile VR - an emerging category we know OnePlus will want to get in on - remember the OnePlus 3 VR launch?
OnePlus 4 concept
Potentially plausible in the light of recent smartphone launches are theories that OnePlus might introduce a curved screen, waterproofing and a dual camera (recent leaks suggest this will appear in a horizontal rather than the more standard vertical format). Storage is likely to start at 64GB, as with the OnePlus 3T.
We’ve seen reports that the OnePlus 5 will come with a 21- to 23Mp rear camera and a 3,500- to 4,000mAh battery with Dash Charge, though it is difficult to tell how reliable they are.
A leak via PCPop agrees with many of the above specs but reports a battery size of 3000mAh which would be a downgrade, a rear mounted fingerprint scanner and a dual-camera setup.

Expect it to run the Oxygen OS, a custom UI based on Android 7.0 Nougat.

@Reprobate.

You may check out the felicity solar freezer & Fridge specifications as attached if it meets your need. Think they are in Festac, Lagos. Though i have never used it before sha.

0.45KwH/day = 0.45 x 1000 / 24hrs = 18.75 W

0.54KwH/day = 0.54 x 1000 / 24hrs = 22.5 W

0.60KwH/day = 0.60 x 1000 / 24hrs = 24 W

gurus, hope my calculation above is correct?
thanks for the info, though nothing spectacular about their comsumption, when you factor in the complexities and cost of a solar fridge.
comparing them size by size, below is the Haier thermoccol 166 L freezer, its 350kwh/yr, roughly 1kwh/day. when compared against the felicity freezer, and I learnt the felicity freezer is as from 300k for the ultra small ones - panels not inclusive

Hello, mine has freezer room top, fridge cabin below .. If you are not going for solar DC freezers which are kinda expensive , go for inverter compressors .. I went for Samsung cos I have internal company source (marketing & engineering units) . Cheers !
I ALREADY HAVE A NORMAL 2 DOOR FRIDGE [haier thermoccol 350L 2 door fridge 135w compressor], the freezer compartment is small, thus my need for a standalone freezer.
in all my searches haven't seen a freezer with inverter compressor!, I wonder why.
yep, solar freezers are 350k and above. not interested

Inverter compressor dosnt stress you with that ON & OFF feature after initial start-up ! cheesy

My compressor starts with 50-70w , after sensing internal temperature, it gradually goes up to 0.82a MAX on my watts meter as it chills both fridge & freezer compartments .. It deviates from the 100w written on it after its soft start tho .. But has never reached 1amp draw on close observation . After gathering block in freezer & chilling for few hours , it slowly drops in power consumption from 0.82a to 58<>75w ! That's my brief analysis on the Thailand SAMSUNG !
a comprehensive analysis, thanks!.
seems refrigrators are built to be more energy efficient than freezers. no inverter freezer, only refrigrators
will make out time to physically go to the stores and compare energy labels, will choose btw Samsung/haier/LG

how many stores will allow you plug a watt meter on their appliances?

Reprobate,
I use an LG smart inverter fridge.
See attached name plate.
omo mehhn, really though the LG inverter fridges were super efficient, after seeing 28w sticker on one of them..
as per the freezer, guess I will go for either the 100w Samsung as stated by justin288 or go for the haier thermocool. Haier is a tried and tested name in cooling, lg and Samsung are just newbies...
make I go chk the price of Samsung, ..Samsung things sabi cost shaa.

@juo 50w after 4hrs, do you think the compressor kicked off?..if so methinks its high with compressor off.

also both LG and haier freezers claim to retain the cold/temp for 4 to 5 days after phcn is off, can someone confirm if this is true

Welcome to my world. I go through hell just to buy energy efficient appliance. I remember trying to get a washing machine. I spent days online looking for washing machine with watt or energy labels. I found zero. I had to physically go to the store (Game, LG, shop right, Park n Shop) and physically check the energy label attached to the devices before making purchase (pain of living green)

I am in the market for a fridge and I might consider one of the inverter fridge. If anyone uses one of those I would appreciate if you could share your experience and energy consumption.
funny enough haier thermocool complies with intl regulations, their freezers have energy consumption in kwh/yr, unlike LG scanfrost etc.
my target freezer is 365kwh/yr = 1kwh/day = 40w/day roughly. the smallest I hv seen close to the freezer type I want is 438kwh/yr....so the search continues, would have to make out time to physical go and check out the LG freezers in their stores ---yuck!!!!
http://www.coolworld.com.ng/home-appliances/htf-219h-chest-freezer-medium

meanwhile, this fridge is an inverter fridge, I have seen it in shoprite , it has a sticker bearing 28w, and some models I think accept dc input
http://www.lg.com/africa/refrigerators/lg-GL-S322RPHL-gl-s322rphl

in another news just observed that phcn have silently increased the energy tariff to 31.27/kwh from the 24.08/kwh it was before, against the directive of the senate against any hike!

reprobate,
don't rely solely on nameplate stickers or labels for energy consumption.
i'll rather suggest a more practical approach. why not use a watt meter to get actual power draw?
as we can expect, most of these manufacturers would rather post energy figures that makes
their products appear less power intensive than their competitors in order to gain market share.
using a watt meter will remove any doubt and beat them at their game!
yeah, that's the best approach, but not very practical in most shops.
I doubt the shop owner will allow you plug the freezer with your watt meter, unless he is enlightened or very very sure you would buy at the end.

I think in the western world, their govts are strict and you cant post spurious energy figures

You can try this out. Quite energy efficient.
Good luck.

https://www.fouanistore.com/lg-appliances/lg-freezer/chest-freezer/lg-chest-freezer-310/
so still on my quest for an energy efficient compact freezer, I decided to contact LG Africa to provide more details on their product,
their response was timely, but failed to answer my question
why is it that most customer care rep don't go the extra mile to answer customer questions huh huh huh

if lg stated the freezer consumption in kwh/yr on the website, it would have even made sense, as they don't usually state the wattage too.
guess one has to physically locate the product and read off these values from the sticker.
