Following the crisis over the governorship primaries of the People’s Democratic Party scheduled for today by the National Working Committee of the Party, Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned from the party. Adeleke made his resignation known on Monday night via a letter dated November 4. It would be recalled that the governor has been screened by the Party in October earlier before the Ibadan National convention. The PDP National Working Committee has earlier scheduled its governorship primary for Tuesday, December 2 in Osogbo. But in the latest turn of event, Adeleke released a resignation letter just hours to the event. His letter partly read, “Due to the current crisis of the’ national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect. “I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.” gazzette |

‘If Peter Obi Does Not Make Up His Mind, Atiku Will Pick Amaechi As Running Mate’ – Momodu Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar’s bloc within the African Democratic Party (ADC) has begun searching for a southern politician to serve as his running mate in the 2027 presidential election. According to Sunday Punch, the bloc had narrowed its focus to Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party candidate. There are indications that if Obi declines the offer, Atiku would consider former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi. Speaking with Punch, Atiku’s political friend, veteran journalist Dele Momodu, publicly urged Obi to join Atiku in forming a strong opposition pact to dislodge the ruling party. Momodu described Atiku and Obi as the two figures capable of delivering the strongest alliance Nigeria has seen since the 2019 election. Recall that Atiku and Obi previously ran on the joint People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ticket in 2019, but lost to then-incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari. Momodu expressed frustration over what he described as public pushback from Obi’s supporters, whom he blamed for the reluctance to finalise the prospective match-up ahead of 2027. He said, “That is why they are trying to make every party have only southern candidates. They don’t want any strong opposition from the opposite direction (North). There is no way any Southern candidate can defeat Tinubu. “I have said this to Peter Obi. We have met several times at my houses in Lagos and Ghana. If Peter Obi does not take advantage of a ready-made union between him and Atiku, it would be very unfortunate. It would be as good as working for Tinubu to come back.” Warning that delay could cost Obi a significant political opportunity, Momodu said Atiku may settle for Amaechi as his running mate. He said, “A lot of people are underrating Amaechi. Amaechi single-handedly handed power to Buhari. What the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, is doing now, though in an unruly manner, Amaechi did quite well when he was governor of Rivers State. Amaechi mobilised more than any other person for Buhari, even more than Tinubu. If Obi does not make up his mind or chooses to run alone, then I believe the mantle might fall on Rotimi Amaechi.” On efforts to reconcile both men politically, Momodu said, “I have told Obi. There is no time. “The person you want to dislodge is already the President. He has everything. He is either coercing or cajoling the governors and senators to join him. He wants to present a false alibi that everybody loves him. He knows what he is doing. “He wants to create a false image of someone who cannot be defeated, so that when they succeed at doing their manipulation, they will say, ‘What did you expect?’ “Despite all their shenanigans in 2023, they lost Lagos to Obi. They lost Osun to Gov Ademola Adeleke. Obi needs to make up his mind. For now, I don’t know his party. PDP is crumbling, LP has crumbled. Where does he want to go?” Copyright © 2025 Naija News. God Will Punish All Southern Governors Who Wore Aso Ebi to a Security Meeting! By Wale Ojo-Lanre, Esq . God will punish them! Yes — every single one of them! Senseless Governors! Irresponsible souls of no grace! Rubbish fellows masquerading as leaders! Imagine these empty-headed people, these Professors of Cluelessness, these ambassadors of “fashion before thinking”! We are talking about security — tension, fear, banditry, kidnapping — and what entered their minds first? Aso Ebi! Matching clothes! Identical attire! Coordinated fabric! Ah! The pinnacle of national embarrassment! Instead of crafting strategy, they were choosing colours. Instead of discussing intelligence gathering, they were comparing patterns. Instead of focusing on public safety, they were inspecting fabrics. Imagine the disgrace — high-ranking leaders first settled the “important” matter of matching outfits before touching the issue of kidnapping. Senselessness crowned with power. Nonsense enthroned by the ballot. Yes, I know this may be my last day as the Director-General of Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, since my amiable Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, is one of those Southern Governors who wore Aso Ebi to discuss security matters. But should I remain silent because of what I want to eat today? Should my stomach bury my conscience? Should my position swallow my mind? Never. I must say it as it is. For the Yoruba say: “A kì wí níbẹ̀ kí a kú níbẹ̀” — we do not keep silent in the place where truth must be spoken. But before Nigerians suffocate themselves with unnecessary shouting, let us pause and apply the brain God gave us. Because this “crime” that these Governors committed — this terrible, unforgivable offence of wearing identical attire — is, in fact, one of the most intelligent and culturally grounded decisions they could have made. There is no single law anywhere that dictates what a Governor must wear when discussing serious issues. The Constitution does not insist on suit, agbada, kaftan, or babanriga. Solutions do not emerge from collars and cuffs; they emerge from unity of purpose. And unity, whether you like it or not, sometimes wears cloth. What exactly is Aso Ebi? To the Yoruba, Aso Ebi is not mere material. It is a message coded in fabric. A declaration of oneness, solidarity, shared purpose, aligned destiny. When Yoruba families wear Aso Ebi at events, it is not stupidity; it is unity. When communities choose one cloth, it is not fashion; it is identity. Aso Ebi is the textile expression of harmony, the fabric equivalent of “we stand together.” So if families wear Aso Ebi for weddings and burials, what stops Southern Governors from wearing it for security — a matter far more serious than any party? If mothers wear it to show unity in joy, why can’t leaders wear it to show unity in danger? Their attire was not frivolity; it was symbolism. A visual declaration that “we are tackling this matter as a united front.” Across history, uniforms have always been the symbol of discipline and collective mission — from Roman soldiers to modern police officers. Even global leaders coordinate dressing during crises. Americans do it. Chinese leaders do it. South Africans do it. But when Southern Governors do the same thing, suddenly it becomes a national calamity deserving of online riots. What the Governors did was wise. It was strategic. It was culturally correct. It was symbolically powerful. Unity strengthens focus, and focus strengthens results. The people shouting against them are simply loud, not learned. They see cloth and miss the culture. They see fabric and miss the philosophy. They see colour and miss the cohesion. So don’t mind me — and don’t mind those of us who have been stupidly, foolishly shouting over a just cause. God will punish these Southern Governors with more wisdom, punish them with deeper knowledge, punish them with elevated understanding. He will answer their individual prayers in ways that shame their critics. And He will make my own Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, return gloriously for a second term, stronger, wiser, and even more united with his colleagues. May all the Governors who wore Aso Ebi live longer than their imaginations, thrive beyond their expectations, and prosper beyond the noise of those who never understand the meaning of unity — even when it is worn on the body. Amen to sense. Amen to unity. Amen to Aso Ebi. gazzette |
Hon. Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante, a member of the House of Representatives representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal constituency of the Rivers State, has criticised the Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian Government for what he described as an alarming silence in the face of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s ordeal during the recent military coup in Guinea-Bissau. In a post shared on social media platforms, Abiante expressed deep concern that it took the intervention of Côte d’Ivoire’s President to evacuate Jonathan from the troubled nation and return him safely to Nigeria. Viral videos of Jonathan’s return to Abuja confirmed that the plane belongs to the République de Côte d’Ivoire, as boldly displayed on its fuselage. According to him, the action should have come from the Nigerian government. “It is quite disheartening to witness that former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who became stranded in Guinea-Bissau during the military coup, had to be rescued and brought home by the President of Côte d'Ivoire, another nation's leader, while our own government maintained complete silence,” Abiante said. The lawmaker questioned how a former Nigerian leader could be left without visible support from his home country during a moment of regional instability. “How do we explain a situation where an elder statesman of Jonathan’s stature is left unattended by the very country he once led? What kind of politics have we reduced ourselves to in this nation?” he asked. Abiante noted that even if rumours were being circulated about Jonathan’s political ambitions, such speculation could never justify neglecting a figure whose leadership and peace-building efforts have earned global respect. “This is not just a former President of Nigeria; he is an elder statesman of Africa—respected globally for his unwavering commitment to peace,” he wrote. “When such a figure finds himself in danger in a foreign land, it is expected that his home country would take immediate steps to ensure his safe return to his family.” SaharaReporters confirmed the safe arrival of Jonathan in Nigeria from Guinea-Bissau on Thursday. Jonathan, who led the West African Elders Forum Election Observation Mission, had been in the country monitoring last Sunday’s presidential and legislative elections before the military announced it had seized power. In a joint statement on Wednesday, Filipe Nyusi, former president of Mozambique and Head of the African Union Election Observation Mission; Issifu Kamara, Head of the Economic Community of West African States Election Observation Mission; and Jonathan condemned the coup, describing it as a direct attempt to disrupt Guinea-Bissau’s democratic process. They appealed for calm among residents and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Guinea-Bissau “during this sensitive period,” stressing “the importance of preserving peace, stability, and the well-being of the Bissau-Guinean people.” Also, the Nigerian Government condemned the coup in strong terms, warning that it represents a serious threat to democracy and regional stability. Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ahmed Idris Wase on Wednesday alleged that names of Boko Haram members were once discovered on the Nigerian Army recruitment list, warning that such infiltration is undermining the country’s security architecture. Speaking during a special plenary session of the House convened to review the national security situation, Wase said former Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Muktar Betara, could confirm the incident. He said the development reflects the deep flaws in Nigeria’s recruitment processes, which have allowed individuals with criminal backgrounds to enter sensitive security institutions. Wase, who revealed that he lost both a brother and a cousin to terrorists, said the infiltration of the system helps explain why criminal groups continue to operate freely in many parts of the country. He added that insecurity has become so overwhelming that his surviving younger brother begged him to help secure a transfer out of their community. He said: “My brother, former chairman of defense, and my very good friend, Betara, will bear with me that we have moments in when in the process of recruitment, we found in the list names of criminals. Boko Haram members were found in the list of Army. “There has to be a thorough way of ensuring that when we are recruiting, those of us who are politicians should recommend people of good character and integrity. That’s the only way we can solve this problem. You find a criminal in the system, and before you know it, whatever you do, you cannot have the problem resolved. So we must change the system and way of our recruitment. Yes, as politicians, it’s good to recommend. This is what we are here for. But when you are recommending, please recommend people of integrity, people that will meet standards and ensure that they give the best access to our country.” The former deputy speaker warned that Nigeria’s security crisis persists partly because some individuals benefit from the chaos, enabling criminals to move in convoys and operate with impunity. Wase further lamented the politicisation of indigeneship and citizenship, describing it as one of the key issues dividing the country and calling for constitutional reforms to address the problem. He noted that kidnapping has become routine, with about N5 billion reportedly paid as ransom in one year, while more than 30,000 people have been killed in Boko Haram-related attacks over time. Wase urged lawmakers to take a holistic approach to the crisis, stressing that the scale of insecurity facing the country is more dangerous than many realise and requires urgent, coordinated action.
