Hello MackyNaija, does this mean its not necessary to go through the stress of getting an international driver's license here in Nigeria before traveling?
One can simply register over there, take tests and get it done?

Biko reply my question this time cry
MackyNaija:

Took the test and I just got home.

It was a Basic Knowledge Test undecided
I am unhappy I put off writing this test for this long, I would have passed it if I wrote it a month ago. sad
I performed very well from the much I read, got 26 outta 30. You only need 21 correct answers to pass - I just deh give myself unnecessary anxiety.

It was a normal exam though tricky. Twas a nice experience.
Next week is the driving test, I suppose pass this one as per experienced Nigerian driver. cheesy

Documents I used for processing -
1. Passport and Visa
2. I20 and I94.
3. 2 Proof of residence - lease agreement and bank statement (they rejected my electricity bill; it had my address but didn't have my apartment number)
4. $25 fee.

Modified -
The test was to be taken over 480 minutes, I did it in less than 15minutes. It shouldn't take more than 30mins for most people.

The faculty doesn't seem to be in a hurry with me to understand but I got to make a good impression at least so it would be easier for some Nigerians in the future to get a position with him.

Please how do I go about this? I need suggestions, anyone, everyone
Congratulations on the new position.
Apart from meeting your Professor for guidance, it'll be helpful if your reach out to fellows working on similar research in other schools. LinkedIn is a great way to do this.
You can also reach out to folks whose publication you find too recondite to grasp. At least you'll find one with enough patience to show you the ropes.

Boss, does this include the school of engineering in UCBoulder? I'm hoping it just affected non-STEM guys embarassed
femi312:
Just to chip in, It used to be the case before but things have changed due to cut in research funds by the US Government. For instance not all Phd students are funded in University of Colorodo at Boulder and many more schools while some wont admit you because they don't allow self funded students.

Hey RexCheeng. how's the application going?

Concerning the error you encountered while trying to upload your GRE/TOEFL score to your application page. Open the pdf copy of the score report from ETS with Adobe Reader. Try using the "Take a snapshot" option under the edit menu in the Adobe Reader to crop the relevant section of your score report, paste this cropped immage on MS word and adjust accordingly. Then convert back to pdf format from the word format and upload your stuff. Make sure you capture the relevant sections while cropping.

I used this method to send just my GRE scores to schools without showing the schools where I had earlier sent my scores... grin

Lemme know if this works.

Hands up SIR!!!
This is pure ingenuity! I'm sure this will suffice.

Thanks a bunch.

This application process can be overwhelming by the way, hoping it pans out.

Hearty congratulations to masterforceII cool and witgig. You have done well! Thanks for giving back to the society.

Please, who has an idea of how to upload a secure document? Or how to remove the security.

A school is requesting that I upload my GRE and TOEFL but the one I downloaded from ets' website is secured and when I try to upload, it gives an error.

Who has experienced this?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a GRE maths tutor. if there's anyone here who fits the bill, or can make I recommendation, it will be greatly appreciated. please note that I need a personal tutor and not a tuition center because of the flexibility, my budget .

You have a BSc right? It's an indication of your skills to learn and ace/not-fail examinations.

Firstly, what's your weak point in the quantitative section? Geometry? QC? Algebra?
Take notes and get a good introductory material to go over the basics. Manhattan 5lb was instrumental for me.

Have you taken the power prep? What did you score?
Were you clueless about most questions or did you run out of time? Pacing can be tackled with assiduous Practice.

What materials have you been using? Magoosh videos? Manhattan 5lb? Princeton review? Do you have a proper understanding of the techniques being introduced? If not, go back again, check examples and solve questions.

If I may add, it might be difficult to make a giant leap in the space of a week so don't be discouraged.

This platform has eliminated the need for a tutor or tutorial centre for a lot of folks. Its beneficial for you to take advantage of it.

There are also study groups on various social media platforms, try to utilize it.

However if you think all I've typed is bants... I wish you all the best in your quest.

Your choice is great and you have a very good profile to go with it. I asked about you and Chemical engineering because of UW-Madison. You know it is a top school for my program as well.

Clemson should be on your list as well. And Central Missouri. I hear they are both very good and well funded for your course. Try Auburn as well if you have the time.
Bros, how do your hear these things grin. Help our ears too biko.
I've seen a lot of suggestions on this forum; UTK, UNL, Clemson, cleveland et al. However, when I check some of their research groups in my field, I realize they only admit PhD candidates. Is there something we're missing? Yet the graduate coordinators keep saying " all international MS Applicants are duly considered for graduate assistantship" undecided

N8000? It is not a promo and I used it to send some of my score reports to atleast 5 or 6 schools. The rate was better for me because ETS charges $27 to send each score report which is still N8100 at N300/$ and I doubt banks charge that low.
That's really good to hear, the last time I checked, banks still charge N360/$ (if anyone knows a cheaper source, biko, do tell). Thanks a bunch Scholastica16.

Thanks.

Congratulations Temmitats!
Moving on to the next thing cannot be overemphasized!!! Choice of schools, contacting grad cords and POI, etc.
Definitely, we'll get there.

I I eventually reported my scores( I actually covered my face, I was really nervous) opened it and saw 158v 158Q , while its 4 marks short of my ideal score, I'm just happy it isn't too bad and I can actually put the GRE behind me and move on to the next thing.
This thread really helped me, I got a lot of materials andI was also motivated by the great scores here. Saying a big thank you to rexcheeng for his encouragement too. I'm sorry if my writing is all over the place, I'm just writing as it comes to mind.

There's a plethora of scholarship opportunities for Nigerians. It depends on your WAEC, SAT and a couple of other factors.

I have interest in security of smart grid systems as well as FOG networks in smart grid, I have proposed research ideas to the UofTcurrent group unfortunately they said they could not add more new student lately. So u may have to look somewhere else Like I am now bro

Thanks for the heads up sir.

They might not be recruiting new students to work on your said research, however I plan to explore other reseach areas... Large scale renewable energy integration, power electronics for smart grids, energy storage et al.

Also, I do not intend on putting all my eggs in one basket. wink

I am in my 3rd year of PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering at UTK myself. I am researching energy systems and climate. ORNL is so big on this and would suggest you look into energy science too - that's the future. Alternatively, research on data analytics or big data and see yourself working in one of the biggest financial institutions or IT companies upon graduation. You can thank me later.

Go Vols!!

Hello, UTK is one of the top schools on my radar and I have some queries, especially as regards their CURENT laboratory(I'm into smart grids).

Can I send you a PM?

Boss, how about University of Tennessee Knoxville. I have done a lot of research on the school and in realized it's a top notch school with excellent research faculty and facility(Their CURENT Lab is arguably the best), especially in the area of power systems and power electronics.

You mentioned one time that it is well funded, but my conversation with the grad coordinator has not really been encouraging, especially because I wasn't gunning for PhD.

Do you know folks who got funding for masters? If they did, was it RA or TA?

OluDare01:

Hey where did you do your undergrad I've told you there's no funding at Tennessee tech buy you still included it. I school at tech and I can give you first hand info about happenings here. If you apply for a PhD, you may get funding here.

I plan to seat for TOEFL around July or August, and will register for GRE around November. After writing these exams, I intend to send an application for admission (with scholarship) to schools in US, UK, Canada, etc.

If I wrote the aforementioned exams at those times in this year, would I be able to meet up with the admission procedures for 2018 fall semester, which starts by September every year in foreign schools?

When do schools in US, UK, Canada start accepting applications from prospective international students for a new session?

By God's Grace, I plan to do my master's program and PhD studies abroad, practise there for some years and return to Nigeria.

Cc:
happyday
I believe I am more versed in application to schools in the USA so I'll comment on that. Firstly, 3 months of assiduous prep should suffice for your GRE. TOEFL shouldn't take more than a few days if you have a good grasp of English language. Try to take your tests earlier so if there's a need to retake, you'll still be on track.

Many schools in the US have fall and spring semesters. I'm guessing you'll be applying for Fall 2018. Most schools I know have their application window open around September and it lasts till January for you to be considered for funding. I learnt that the earlier you apply, the better, however, this might not hold in all cases.

It will help if you check threads on Nl and other websites like yocket, the gradcafe, and the likes to have a proper understanding of these things.

You're doing a good job by the way! This thread is amazing.

OK.thanks for replying.my dept is history and international studies .I intend to master in either peace and conflict studies or international development studies.please when you say standardized test,is ielts included?are there schools that can accept application with funding in Canada without GRE but with ielts or toefl?though my priority remains USA.I presently have no publication. thinking of publishing my undergraduate project.for the links you referred,I I'll go through them painstakingly. thanks.
Many schools in Canada do not require GRE, but they do state that its an added advantage. And yes, IELTS or TOEFL is part of the standardized tests.

It will really help if you publish your undergrad thesis. A good rapport with your supervisor can also help you get on other research he or she is working on.

All the best
