Over 150 bandits drown as boat capsizes in Sokoto

No fewer than 150 suspected bandits have reportedly drowned after a boat conveying them capsized in Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State.

Local sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Saturday evening when the vessel, carrying a large number of armed men, overturned while crossing a water body in the area.

The sources said the bandits were travelling in large numbers when the boat suddenly capsized, throwing all occupants into the water.

“Preliminary information suggests that many of them could not swim, leading to heavy casualties,” a source said.

Initial reports indicated that none of the occupants survived the incident, although there has been no official confirmation from security agencies as at the time of filing this report.

The development, if confirmed, is expected to deal a significant blow to criminal groups operating in parts of the North-West region.

Eight bandits killed by own IED planted for troops in Niger

No fewer than eight suspected bandits have been killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) believed to have been planted for security forces along Lukope Road in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on March 20 along the Kurebe–Kushaka axis, a known corridor for armed groups operating within the forest belt.

The sources explained that the IED, suspected to have been emplaced by the bandits to target advancing troops, detonated when members of the group inadvertently rode over it while moving on motorcycles.

“The explosion occurred as the bandits were transiting the route, leading to the instant death of about eight of them and the injury of several others, the source said.

The bandits were believed to be loyalists of notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide and were reportedly heading towards Lukope area.

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, Sector 1, were said to have responded swiftly to the scene and intensified patrols to forestall any further security breaches.

The incident has, however, heightened tension among residents of Kushaka, Kurebe, Gbato and neighbouring communities over fears of possible reprisal attacks.

Stakeholders have alerted relevant stakeholders to take proactive measures to reassure residents and strengthen security presence in the area.

Sources said monitoring of the situation was ongoing, with increased patrols along vulnerable routes to maintain stability.

As far as salary is concern, DSS is better. The only thing attracting people to custom is the corruption there. With better posting in DSS too you go see money, especially if attached to politicians.

The process is too slow. I was even hoping they will call for training next month when I saw army DSSC invitation, coupled with the fact that Ramadan which some people said is the reason for delay is gradually coming to an end. Anyone with reliable info should update us please
