What I know - for a fact (and based on my UK experience) and the experience of thousands of others is that we have amazing stories of how God used the Church as a place of comfort for us when we arrived as newbies in this obodo UK.

For every 1 negative experience that some people may have, I dare say there are thousands (nay, millions) of positive experiences. But guess what? A microscopic few, very vocal minority makes it look like the ‘Church’ is a horrible place. Far from it!

Haha.....pheeew...huge sigh ... well.. God doesn't judge like man. Forget about the excesses. Just obey and try to be consistent as much as you can.

I'd tell you my own experience... it wasn't easy when I moved over here. I think I missed 1 or 2 times this year, I didn't die, but I recognised I needed to sort things out with God. He has given me wisdom to manage what I earn and still remain consistent with my Tithes.

My sister... just focus on God and not man.

God is 70% pro mercy than Judgement.

But ...... Trust me.. Tithing is a sacred ordinance, trust God for GRACE to keep on.

Zahra29:
You make some good points about why the tithe is important, as long as it is practised as a law, but as a sacrificial giving to honour God and support the work of His church.

However you also mention the need for private jets and other luxuries. And let's face it, these are luxuries, but are they justifiable when many communities have so little to live on? Furthermore, how many private jets do you see landing in remote forests and villages in Nigeria and beyond, bringing medical supplies, food and the gospel? (Where would they land even?) I might be wrong, but these private jets seem to love to fly to "missions" in comfortable parts of the world, to preach to and delight the converted and collect love offerings afterwards. That's not what the tithe was for - it was to feed the orphans , widows and poor in their midst , not to buy 3 private jets that most of the Church is not able to access.

I often wonder if Jesus were on earth today, would He be flying everywhere by private jet, flanked by bodyguards to prevent the people from coming close, with people shouting "Man of God" from afar only because they are not significant enough for the Master to want to have a personal meeting with them
I admit that a lot of excesses have been practised in the Church.

I also admit that some pastors have not given believers the right perspective to missions.

Trust me, when I say PJ is a tool and not luxury, I know what I am saying. Especially if the ministry is very evangelistic.

Coursing across the globe is no small matter o.. I don't want to blow any man's trumpet, but I know some men who are in 1 crusade or the other every week and have had to miss some because flights were either unavailable or delayed.

Away from the PJ matter, I don't also support the MAN worship. It is actually a cultural thing. We are monarchical in nature. We have taken it into any sphere of leadership, including the church. So people most times want to "adore" their leaders. With success, comes fame and prosperity and they may not have control over some kind of protocols put in place for them.

Personally, I like simplicity.

What would you say if people stampede a popular MOG because he wanted to be simplehuh

You go explain Taya 😁

No evidence.

Jesus says in the last days, many will rise in my name MT 25:5…… My point remains that church or mosque is the last place I’d advice anyone coming to this uk or anywhere sef to seek help.

If I put in the work in studying and acting on the written word, I don’t need to start slaving and daddying or mummying crooks and thieves that pose in the name of Jesus.

When I have time, I’ll tell you several hands on experiences.

Btw, I’m even referring to Nigeria churches and pastors who now focus on materialism and 10keys to success or financial freedom, instead of the true Gospel of Jesus.

I went to church not because I am looking for any miracle money or whatever ever it is , the pastors and clergies are feeding on(yes I need his help and I know it is in his world, which is available to all)but because I reverence him and thank him for all he does and is to me.
The CHURCH is the body of Christ and there is no guarantee that we won't be hurt or meet dubious people of very funny characters.

If your focus is on MAN , you will always be disappointed.

As long as we live on this earth, we will always meet imperfect people and experience imperfect situations, but this doesn't make God's command any less binding.

Stay on point, i'm not interested in your long episode.

I ask you again..tell me anywhere in new testerment where Jesus Christ commanded today christains to pay 10% of their monthly income to the Church.

..and bytheway.. this is Matthew 23v23 you keep mentioning

Matthew 23:23
English Standard Version

23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.''

Where in that verse did Jesus commanded us to pay 10% of monthly?
Chai... my brother. I have told you. You just have an issue with the CHURCH. I can't help you.

I say again...No One has forced you to TITHE and no one will ever notice that your £$€¥ is not reporting to the Church account.

Brother, I think you are mistaken. First, what is tithe? Then what does the bible say about "paying" tithe. Was the instruction to pay tithes made to christians or the Jews? That passage you quoted, Christ was talking to Jews (The Pharisees) not Christians. What about parts of the scriptures that says you should use your tithe to buy alcohol and drink?
You mentioned "essence", if tithing was essential, why did Christ say it was not important?
If you choose tithing as one of the laws to obey, why are you not obeying the other 600+ laws?
I agree that giving is essential and good but why do we use it to build edifices and buy private jets. Christ said "Go ye into the world . . ." not build me palacial places of worship. Since I realised the truth about tithing, I have refrained from "paying" it. I concentrate more on my giving.
It is not recorded that the disciples paid tithe or ordered people to pay tithes.
Mmm....interesting

First of all..Jesus didn't say it wasn't important. He was reprimanding them for paying TITHES yet being evil hearted hypocritical people.

Truth is I can't convince anyone to pay or not to pay TITHES. It is a revelation that dawns on you. Trust me, man by nature is selfish and has more tendency to withhold than to give. Tithing is one such ordinance that helps us constantly show who is Lord of our finances.

While I am against amassing wealth and focusing on self gratification as against advancing the real reason Jesus came, I can also categorically tell you with all boldness that PROSPERITY and WEALTH is one SUCH reasons why JESUS died.

When you really understand missions and are actively involved, you will understand that private Jet is a toy and tool of missions.

Have you had to connect 7 countries in 3 dayshuh

Have you ever gone to the interior villages to see how much of the funds go into crusades that also involve medical, social, educational projects?

It will be very hard to convince you if you have not experienced these first-hand.

Who told you we were not asked to build places of worship?? Come on man, check your bible well nah.

Have you ever evaluated the cost of the temple solomon built?? Do the research , you would marvel.

So when we win souls , where do we disciple them??

I don't know sha the church you attend, but I am a product of a very rigorous training system.

We don't just save a man's soul, He must be trained and then deployed. Church is not just about praying and shouting, the man must be developed SPIRIT, SOUL and BODY. So where will these development of his mind and soul happen? In the Bush??...SMH

I am sorry for the models of ministry you guys may have experienced, but trust me...Ministry and Pastoring is a huge task, especially genuine pastoring. And , boy it is costly!!!

Mentioning of Tithes and commandement to give are two different things. so i ask you this..

Tell me anywhere in New testerment where Jesus christ commanded today christains to give 10% of their income monthly to the church.
What if I told you that the command in the New Testament isn't even just 10%, but your whole life.

Tithe na beginner stage my brother.

See eh, there's a point you get to in your relationship with God and you eventually understand that your whole life and possessions belong to God.

I think you are still having issues because you think you are giving to Church. You don't see your giving as unto God.

I showed you 2 scriptures, 1 by Jesus and another referencing Jesus by Paul.

Mathew 23:23 Read in NLT version and Hebrews 7:8 also.

The church is the Body of Christ. Whatever we do in Faith is established in heaven.

I can't help your angst towards the CHURCH.

TITHE is for running the Kingdom projects and taking care of God's servants.

Let me ask you.... Has the Church shut down since you stopped TITHING? I assume you did tithe in the past.

People who understand are still TITHING.

AND YES TITHING is RECOGNISED and approved by JESUS.

It is neither an old or a new testament practise.

It is older than Abraham and Moses who are the bedrock of the old testament.

You don't pick 1 and leave the other.

Dear JUSTWISE People that genuinely TITHE do not complain.

Yes you are forced to pay Tithes and offering, you are told that you will not make heaven if you don't pay, you are told that you are stealing from God if you ate your Tithes and offering, they falsely use Malachi 3:10 to deceived their members even when they know that Tithes got nothing to do with money and was not even paid monthly when it was practiced in old dispensation.

These Jesus factory owners will use all sorts of means to steal from members and still have the gut to call the name of God
Ok I see your points which are very very valid.

Now let me try to do some explaining and I stand to be corrected and would appreciate any contribution too.

To start with, TITHING precedes Jesus Christ. It was even practised before Abraham came. So it is not a new testament or modern age fabrication. Infact Jesus made a very emphatic statement in Mathew 23:23 NLT translation "“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.

As much as it is a command by God, I will also say that He will not kill Mr A or Mrs B if they default , but there are conditions He has put to the obedience of that COMMAND. Infact, every blessing or promise in scripture has a condition to experience it. Even SALVATION which is FREE is based on the condition of REPENTANCE and BELIEVING in the finished works of CHRIST.

I agree that there are a lot of people who are not true men of God or who are basically interested in material possessions and have made a nonsense of the prosperity message (which is part of the gospel), but we must also not throw away the baby with the bath water.

Whether you will go to HELL for not paying TITHES, I can not guarantee, but what I can say is, if you have chosen to be a Christian, then trust God for GRACE to practise all its essence.

You know when I said that Christianity isn't a RELIGION, my brother misunderstood me .... Let me explain ( and I am sorry if I sounded rude dear brother)... We are supposed to be in a LOVING relationship with God and not a forced fearful union. Christianity is a walk , a fellowship and deep communion with God. If you serve God from the perspective of LOVE and TRUST, then you will also lovingly give without coercion or fear of being punished.

When we give, we give because we want this good news that changed our lives to spread to the ends of the earth. Infact, some of us give more than 10%. You can't love without giving innit? Same way, TITHES and OFFERINGS are expressions of our love to God to support His servants and the work committed to their TRUST.

If you take your focus off Man, and turn that attention on JESUS, you would not need any man to force you to give. Hebrews records that it is even Jesus who collects these TITHES represented by priests on earth.

Hebrews 7:8 Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. "

Trust me, there are people who are supporting the spread of the gospel with billions which is far more than the value of their TITHES.

If you have been involved in mission work, you would know that funding the gospel is BIG MONEY. A true Christian should not withhold his givings. Let him give as the Lord has prospered him. And one such way is to be a committed TITHER. If the church he pays it to abuses or mismanages it, it is left for God to deal with the erring priests.

One thing I know is that, every man will account to God some day.

Finally, on the issue of whether it was money or not they were asked to tithe, it is simple. They didn't have the equivalents of our currencies today, the priests actually lived off these items they brought to the temple because God asked them not to work or get involved in any other business, but to stay day and night taking care of the temple and all. Today, we have ability to have these goods converted into cash, our services are converted to monetary forms, so it is also reasonable to pay TITHE in monetary form. If you insist on bringing crops and animals as your tithe, then no wahala, it will be sold and converted to money.

There's a lot to say on this TITHING matter but space fails me.

I greet you sir!!!

Honestly don't understand how someone will say he is a Christian, wake up in the morning on Sunday, go to church and declare that he has arrived in a gathering of wicked people.

People forget to understand that Church is not a building and people are at different stages of growth and walk with God. They generalize 1 experience and tag the church.

Same people will not also remember to announce the goodwill they have experienced from "church people".

As cowardly as this ideology is, they lack the nerves to point a finger at our cousins who won't hesitate to sever their heads from their necks at the slightest provocation.

Person wey dey call his fellow believers or church members wicked people hasn't met Christ. He is just a blind religious fellow who thinks he is better than everyone else.
