Actually, it's not a thumping or bashing activity. It's not a question of ego tussle between blueto and I. It's just for the sake of argument. There is no bad blood or hard feelings whatsoever. Therefore, I would advise that you shouldn't read meaning to it. That I mentioned Ray360 doesn't mean that I want him to come and decapitate or strangulate blueto. He might decide to view it from another. Ray360 has got the panache for writing and he's also got the gift of gab. Arguments such as this piques Ray360's interests. I believe deep down in the recesses of blueto's mind, he would invariably want more topic to argue over. It's just the way of students. We provoke arguments at every opportunity just to enhance the amygdala and hippocampus complex. Blueto, Ray360, or I could be in a better position of rpresenting UniBen in the next nairaland debate competition.

First off, according to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English and Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Current English; two results were given. The first entry goes thus--- CONTINGENT refers to " a group of people who all have something in common, such as their beliefs, nationality, etc." The second entry which I think is where you got it all wrong----
CONTINGENT refers to "something that may happen in the future." WHAT YOU FAIL TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT CONTINGENT GOES HAND-IN-HAND WITH A PREPOSITION--- "ON/UPON." Any attempt to ignore the preposition will be tantamount to breaking the law of concord and phrasal noun usage, and that was what you clearly did. I hope you grasp the drift buddy? Take a look at this sentence --- "further investment is contingent upon the company's profit performance." That's how the cookies crumble.
According to English etymology, a person who uses big words incorrectly just in bid to display intelligence is a "malaprop".Malapropism (also called a Dogberryism) is the use of an incorrect word in place of a word with a similar sound which results in a n onsencical utterance .
Am I in anyway against the use of big words? Absolutely not! Language is never static. It's dynamic and it morphes every now and then. Big words help to spice up and add flavour to our speeches and write-ups. But my major gripe is using those words out of context. When big words are used wrongly, you end up making an appalling exhibition of yourself. Let's not make a monkey out of ourselves by using big words out of context.

i am at the health center now. I am amazed! I was told that I won't be attended to unless I do my medical clearance. I told the lady that my eyes are too hot and that I needed medication. she insisted on my being medically cleared. later, as I was about leaving in dismay, she called me and told me to fill the attendance form.

as I sat down, dark thoughts catacombed my mind. what if I was seconds away from death, is this how this heartless woman will treat me? ahhh!
