A lot of newbies and experienced investors make this mistake when investing. They receive capital and quickly allocate some for investment, put it into the respective broker platforms and buy. Then they monitor in the app. They are very meticulous when tracking investments whereas the rest of their bank statement is in shambles. At the end of the month, you're left manually tracing which account funded which investment and how much is left after other expenses. This used to be me Don't be that person. I would open my bank app at month-end and just stare. I was far from reckless, but I could not point to where the money went. I tried writing it down. I tried apps. They didn't work. But I found a Google Sheet that does the boring part for me. I just export my statement (Excel/CSV), drop it in, in, and it sorts every transaction, shows my income, expenses, savings rate, and where I am versus my budget. Sixty seconds, and I'm done. I don't need to install any app or login to any bank. The sheet is mine and lives in my Google Drive. Here is the before and after 👇 (screenshots) The point of this post: stop guessing. If your money has been "growing wings" too, this is the cleanest way I have found to actually see it. It is available in Nigeria and I'm happy I discovered it. You know that thing where you get paid your salary and within days it is remaining small? That was my problem for monthssss. I would open my bank app at month-end and just stare. I was not doing anything reckless, but I could not point to where the money went. I tried writing it down. I tried budgeting. I tried locking it in Piggyvest. It didn't work. I kept breaking into my emergency funds, yet I couldn't trace where my money was going. But I found a Google Sheet that does the boring part for me.
