IQvectors: What textbook did you specifically use for biology pls. Modern biology is not for me at all! I wonder how people use that textbook self I refered to a couple of textbooks, which I did use, in my last post. You may try them out. Surely, any textbook can be used in preparing for an exam, so long as it's not encyclopedic. Don't be restricted to a single textbook, since there's a wide variety to choose from. You may find certain subjects more difficult than others. All you've got to do, however, is to get down to some serious study-involving questions and exercises-with them until you get the knack of it. |

Jackanda1: Please can you briefly tell me how you read to smash 324.
Did you read all your subject combination textbook cover to cover? What was your guide?
Congrats. Thanks. For some reason, I can't upload the whole of my reply at a time. I have to make it gradual. Everyone knows reading for an exam is no child's play at all, most especially when you've got to do it all by yourself and for the UTME, it can be a "taxing task" with no prim rose path. Let me cut to the chase. Before I wrote my UTME and o'level exams, it had never occured to me that I could have such creditable scores as I had. Frankly, however, these weren't achieved by any special ability I have but through some workable philosophies of studying and I'll share some with you. (1)PLAN, PREPARE AND SET TARGETS Make preparations for books. If you are writing the next year's UTME, you may consider "essential" or "newschool" science textbooks- they are somewhat comprehensive and easy to understand and I used them. You might as well look out for other textbooks whose authors are the human faces of science . Make sure your preparations are reasonably timely enough. Don't wait until it's a couple of weeks or days to the exam before you start preparing. (2)WORK HARD BUT RELAX FOR EASY POWER It's a good thing to burn the midnight candle but you know, you can't burn the candle at both ends. Don't "overpress" as it might cause an untimely depletion of your energy. Practically, you can read 4 hrs a day. 2hrs during the day and 2hrs at night. The cumulative result is unimaginable only if it's done rightly. (3)TRACK YOUR PROGRESS AND WORK ON IT This is very much important. You should track your progress not from the viewpoint of the quantity of books you've read but in terms of how much your abilities have improved. **Exploit UTME-simulating softwares like myschool etc. It's exactly like repeating the exam countless times before the actual exam. The results paints a picture of what to expect. past questions and answers are good alternatives. They give a glimpse of what to expect. (4)PRIORITISE READING OVER OTHER ACTIVITIES PARTICULARLY THE UNPROFITABLE ONES (5)INCORPORATE READING INTO OTHER ACTIVITIES Are your days usually hectic and full of activities? Including reading into a number of these activities is a good option. You can read while relaxing in bed, on the bus, in a taxi or even in the toilet but don't read while bathing in order that you don't destroy your books. (6)EXPECT THE BEST AND GET IT There's power in positive thinking. Have an attitude of opstimism. Believe in yourself and have faith in the abilities you've got through hard work. (7)ULTIMATELY, TRY PRAYER POWER I don't have to belabour this point. Pray and believe in whatever you will. I wish I could continue but I'm afraid I can't. Although these tips may be seemingly conventional, believe me, the results are incredible. You will, in time, discover this if they are applied correctly. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE READING THIS, ESPECIALLY OUR ESTEEMED MEDICS AND ASPIRANTS |

Eben331: No it won't affect the scores since it has been calculated and you still have a high aggregate score. Just be rest assured and keep fingers crossed
As for the reduction in candidates' mark, that's based on the discretion of the school management
There is a WhatsApp group for MBBS aspirants. I can add you to the group Thanks, I'd very much like to join the group. It would be nice if you are able to provide the wa. link here or through a mail, thanks. |

Eben331: Yes, the 5 marks is intentional and unlike last year that UTME was 70% and O'level 30%
Your aggregate is quite good enough. Congratulations in advance
Did you use two sittings? Yes, I used two sittings and I don't think it's such a good idea for them to reduce candidates' marks just because they used one or two sittings. The number of sittings used won't affect the scores, will it? |
Education › Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Rolandq: 12:10pm On Nov 26, 2023 |
Eben331: Hello I believe you must have seen your aggregate by now Yes, UTME was 75% while O'level was 25% but still didn't add up to 100 as 5 marks were missing. What do you think?

Education › Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Rolandq: 1:59pm On Nov 04, 2023 |
Eben331: Using last year modality, your aggregate is 79.92. This is good enough to secure you admission. Though I don't know how it is calculated for two sittings.
Aggregate is calculated thus: A1 - 80, B2 - 72, B3 - 67, C4 - 62, C5 - 57, C6 - 52 O'level score = Total/5 O'level screening result = O'level score/100 × 30 UTME screening result = UTME score/400 × 70 Aggregate = O'level screening result + UTME screening result Using that modality, it doesn't sum up to 100. What do you feel about this? |

Zico5: I will advise u to try some of the well established universities with better quota. If truly FUTA is picking below 50 for their mbbs admission then to gain admission will be very difficult even with ur utme score. Professors will add their own, VC will also add his own not to talk of important personalities in the society. Try school like UI that their admission is very open. Wish u all the best. Are you also from futa? |
Education › Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Rolandq: 7:56pm On Nov 03, 2023 |
Eben331: I had 318 in UTME and 88/100 in the Post UTME.
FUTA will be using screening this year. You have a very good Jamb score.
How is your O'level result like? I used two sittings. Selecting the best, I have: mat-a1 phy-a1 chem-a1 bio-a1 eng-b3. But I'm not sure whether it will be done this way or an average of the two sittings will be used. Do you have any idea how the olevel is calculated? |
Education › Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Rolandq: 3:26pm On Nov 03, 2023*. Modified: 4:18pm On Nov 03, 2023 |
Eben331: My experience in FUTA medical school has been awesome and quite interesting. They are moving at a fast pace in becoming a recognised medical school. The school has not stopped working in ensuring that MBBS get full accreditation soon. That's what I can say for now.
Regarding admission, it is not that easy to get Medicine in FUTA. During my time, about 2617 people applied but only 45 students were picked. Even during the 2021 set, only 23 students were picked and only about 25 students were picked during the 2022 set.
This is not to scare you but to let you know that medicine is not easy to get anywhere. Nothing is impossible to achieve as long as you put your mind to it. Thanks so much. Before we leave it, could you tell me what your scores were, how you managed to make it in and proffer some advice for an aspirant with UTME: 324. |
