PoliticsWhy Hasn't True Federalism In Nigeria Happened Yet? by romeodunn(op): 12:09am On Feb 01
Wouldn't true federalism be a good thing for the country as a whole?

What could be some disadvantages to this system if we tried to implement it ?

The woman brought it upon herself. When she obstructed federal agents from carrying out their duties and weaponized her car against them, what did she expect? A hug? More Americans support ICE so nothing like civil war. Illegal immigrants can't start a civil war.
Did you even watch the video? Typical ignorant Nigerian on the Internet.

I know they must add ethnic colouration to the news. Everything must be about them.

Stop exposing your tribe to ridicule
And yet you guys later claim the east has no resources. But now it's "ethnic colouration" when one discusses Gas reserves.

Literacy has to be subjective because the English language isn't the only means of conveying information. While I acknowledge that English wasn't mentioned in the statistics, I know it's usually the threshold of measuring literacy levels, and if reverse was the case, the northern figures wouldn't have been that poor.

In a vast area like the north, do you just discard the Hausa language which is the second most spoken language in Africa and possesses a thriving literature segment that is even as old as the English literature?
In a globalized world what language is most useful? Hausa or English? Are WAEC and JAMB in Hausa? Is the SAT in Hausa? Are A levels in Hausa? There are million of Igbo and Yoruba speakers too, and they also speak English in addition to their native language.

Nigeria is an Islamic nation
Majority of our population are Muslims
When was the last time we had a legitimate census to confirm that this is true ? You don't have recent numbers to confirm this.

Could most of Nigeria be able to transition to solar and wind energy and other alternatives? Like if we made solar panels super cheap and available to every one?
PoliticsRe: Does Nigeria Have A Air Defence System? by romeodunn: 11:35pm On Jun 23, 2025
We have old Roland Manpads.

The army and Air Force are currently looking at options to update our systems.

One candidate in the conversation is the Chinese sky dragon system and the HQ9, both would be very good upgrades. We are also looking at options from Europe as well.

In the next three years we will be upgrading our current Jet fleet (currently they are looking at the J10CE or the JF17 block 3) and much more.

It's just taking longer than it should, but it will happen.

It was actually in the 70s and 80s that Nigeria was militarily weak, especially following the civil war, which prevented it from challenging the apartheid regime military.

If apartheid was happening today in South Africa, Nigeria would have launched an invasion. They have the fighter jets to overpower South African defences today.

You have no idea how much investment has gone into the military by now. Countless billions of dollars.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that because there is Boko Haram and stuff, the military is weak. They are under orders not to escalate with heavy weaponry, in order to avoid mass civilian casualties. Absent of that, terrorists would be gone in 3 days.

But for conventional warfare, military versus military, country vs country, Nigeria is 31st in the world, placing it above several European countries including Portugal, Switzerland, Greece etc, and 3rd in Africa.
We only have three Gen. 3.5 Jets (JF-17 Block 2), some Leonardo jets, and old Chinese ones. We do not have aircraft carriers or large planes for en route refueling, we would not have the ability to get our planes into South African airspace. We also do not currently have missiles capable of penetrating their air defenses. South Africa is also not as strong as it used to be. Neither country can project power far away from their own core territories.
PoliticsRe: Do We Even Have Any Leader That Can Inspire The People? by romeodunn: 6:22pm On Mar 15, 2025
The people are the problem.

Nigerians, we like to blame the government, but the truth is, Nigerians themselves are corrupt, tribalistic, undereducated and short sighted.

The population of a nation needs to have a shared sense of destiny in order to grow, without it, we are a kingdom divided against itself.

When you start comparing Hq9b to an S300 😂 I give up!

You expect Russia to use its latest gets in Ukraine? Lmao

Russia is not fighting Assad war, they are only supporting him. If Assad military are voluntarily surrendering, there’s nothing Russia or Iran can do about it.

Again, I laugh when you choose to compare Chinese to Russian or Turkey tech 😂
The HQ9 is better than the S300, this is factual. The S400 and the recent S500 are very good but the HQ9B and HQ22 are very good as well. And most importantly, they are cheaper.

Why wouldn't Russia use its latest stuff? They have been stuck in that war for years now and are relying heavily on criminals and Koreans for soldiers. Shouldn't they have already won by now if their weapons were so good?

The WS13 and WS10 have been proven to be more reliable than the Russian engine (RD33) originally used in the JF17. And you keep mentioning Turkey when we cannot afford Turkish weapons and we would need to find ways to circumvent NATO sanctions on some of their missiles. With China we do not have to worry about such complications.

Russian jets are cheaper than Chinese jets. Cheap does not always means good. China's jet engines (mainly WS10 is more active) are relatively new in the industry and have seen little to no battle testing and China still heavily rely on the AL-31s from Russia for many of its aircraft engines. It is an insult to compare the performance and battle tested and cheaper Russian jets to Chinese made ones.

We have always had relationships with Russian military industry too.

Russian military stuff and Turkish (NATO standard) are far superior to the Chinese made. Take that anywhere.
The HQ9B is better than the S300, the JF17 is solid and has already been utilized by Pakistan quite a bit, it has a fly away cost of $25 million per jet, what Russian jet compares to this price? And if we spent a bit more money we could get the J10C, another solid multi role fighter. China would also get us the J35 5th gen. Russia cannot even produce enough 5th gen planes for the war they are fighting right now, and you think they could supply us? Look at Russia's allies around the world, how is Assad doing these days?

China has a ton of experience in infrastructure and logistics, more money and most importantly they tend to try to be neutral and are easy to do business with.

Turkey is better than both of them but they are NATO and that comes with its own issues. China makes the most sense for us until we gradually develop our own industries.

Imagine being the largest economy in the West Africa and one of the largest on the continent with a mediocre military… so Yes! We need our military to be top notch.

Turkey or Russian companies would have been better options than China
China has a more established logistical machine, they deliver on time, they are cheaper and their fighter jet engines (the WS10 and WS13) are more reliable than the Russian ones.

China is also cheaper, we can get JF17 block 3 jets, the HQ9 air defense system, and eventually the J35 5th gen jet for much cheaper than what Russia and Turkey would charge us.

And we already have a relationship with China that goes back years, I think this is a smart play on our part.
