Please Doc, with your experience do you think 3 month negative HIV test post exposure is conclusive. Some people are still saying it is conclusive after 6 month. I tested at 3 months with negative result spiceadole: Yes..As a matter of fact, many HIV positive people don't have symptoms and are diagnosed incidentally during routine medical checks, antenatal visits or attempts to donate blood.
At the initial stage, they may some flu like symptoms which in Nigeria is usually assumed to be malaria. (This is the seroconversion stage)
Later on,they can be asymptomatic (dormancy stage) for years especially for people who do not have underlying conditions such as diabetes, malnutrition that can suppress their immunity.
Some may have intermittent on and off febrile illness ,feeling of unwellness, tiredness which they will keep taking antimalarials for.
When the virus continues to replicate and overwhelm the immune system, they start to develop subtle symptoms that are suspicious of immunosuppression..This can take many years.
And gradually,the person develops AIDS.
My knowledge and experience as a medical doctor. |

I saw your response below and being part of HIV prevention programme. Please is 3 month post possible exposure negative HIV test conclusive. Check post for story Thanks etrange: First, everything I wrote about HIV up there is true. I know cause I'm a part of a HIV prevention program here. As a member of this program, I know exactly how to approach each individual, and my comment up there was geared towards an individual who is afraid of getting tested. I got my statistics from a reputable source (Statista Research development, collated in 2021 and published in Feb. 2023). Considering the fact that we have issues with statistics in Nigeria and also the fact that some HIV positive people are unaware of their status, I used the word "about" when stating the number of carriers and the number of adult women in Nigeria. Of course, the number of carriers could be more, but that doesn't my conclusion which is that the OP's chance of having the virus is less than 1%.
If you go to a HIV clinic, of course, you'd see an overwhelming cluster of people with HIV because it's a convergence center for them, but at a national level it won't be more than 1.5% of adult women. This combined with the fact that the OP's chance of getting infected with the disease if he had sex with a carrier is less than or equal to 0.05% implies that the overall chances of the OP having HIV is less than 1% even if he had sex with a HIV positive person. I'm not saying this to encourage promiscuity or make people let thier guards down. HIV is real, and even though it's very manageable today, it's still a serious health concern all over the world. I'm saying this because it's a scientific fact and one that will encourage the OP to get tested.
Solution wise, zipping up is one of the solutions, but it's not the most practical one. Arguably, human beings are not created to zip up. Regardless of what religion says or how much we preach, people will keep having sex. And until we start pushing other solutions, HIV, HPV and other STD's will keep spreading. I, therefore, encourage people to know thier safety options and pick the one that works for them and thier pocket:
1) Abstinence (aka zip-up) 2) Monogamy (where both parties get tested every 6 months) 3) Condom 4) PREP (regular or on-demand) 5) PEP (preferably PEP-IN-POCKET aka PIP) 6) Undetectable viral load (if one of the parties is known to be HIV positive) |

You sound as you know much about HIV testing. I did a 3 month test recently and result was negative. Do you think I'm in the clear? Considering HIV 2 is more prevalent in Nigeria and some people are saying antibody takes more than 3 months to be detected. What's your take on this? Brown2012: I will start by saying ulcer can make you have all the listed symptoms you mentioned and more, ulcer is wicked. There is no means of getting infected if you practice Safe sex, which I believe you did from your story. Repeat the test after 3months or you can go for a PCR test it detects the virus even at window period. |
Health › Re: Am I Infected With HIV?? by ronet2(op): 1:45pm On Aug 01, 2024 |
Thanks for your encouragement. Just did another HIV test 3 months post exposure and result was negative. Hopefully, this will be it. Time to relax. Eriokanmi: Calm down OP and don't listen to many quacks here.
Ulcer symptoms alone could be confusing at times. You'd think you have malaria meanwhile it's ulcer. Peptic ulcer is the most painful and disturbing. It could hold your upper back bone like its breaking off. When you drink cold water, you'd feel like vomiting. The abdominal ulcer hurts same way but the activities are limited to the abdomen. You don't even like yourself. You're an uncer patient, you didn't treat it and you went and slept with a woman? Stress is one of the triggers. Having sex entails use of the entire body strength. You could break down thereafter, as an uncer patient, depending on the stage.
That said, nobody here would he able to tell if you're hiv positive or negative. Only the lab result will tell so, why not go back to that lab and get tested once again, to be sure? I'm not sure it's hiv you contracted though.
To all the promiscuous fellas here, wearing latex alone isn't a safe means of having sexual intercouse. While you're pulling off the latex, there's a remnant of the fluid following it, up to the tip of your genital. Once it has its way, it's as good as having unprotected sex. Before you pull it off, did you first lift it and clean the public side with tissue? Then did you wash that side very quickly before your genital got weak and then carefully remove it thereafter? If you have a cut in-between your public hair, maybe due to recent shaving, the fluid can penetrative through. Women too can contrast infections if the guy has some openings around the balls and genitals cos there could be blood release in the process as a result of the rubbing and thrusting by the guy.
There's a lot of risks associated with sex which is why we've always been advocating abstinence. You'd not die if you do not have sex before marriage. This applies to both gender. To say you no go pass your boundaries, you for no dey panick like dis |

HIV can be transmitted if their is presence of sore/ fresh wound. But be mindful, hepatitis is more dangerous and can be transmitted by sex, body contact, saliva and what not. To be on the save side, avoid kissing or kiss only person you know very well Love800: So you saying that one can contact HIV when you kiss someone on the lips? |

I no dey pray for HIV ooo. Within me I have 99.8% confidence that I'm not infected. But my concern was the possibility of reminant of vaginal fluid on my pubic area dripping down to the tip of my penis while washing off with water and their is possibility of present of sperm on the tip. Na 0.2% now I dey worry ukaface: Hiaaaa Abi you wan get HIV You wore protection, no oral, no kissing, no tear So how else will STI enter? Well except if there is something else you ain’t saying |

Hello everyone,
I need some advice from medical persons on a possible exposure to HIV.
What is the probability of contracting HIV infection after protected sex with condom and washing of the genitals with soap and water. So the story.. I had a one off sex with a lady on May 4th 2024 with condom. No oral,no kissing. After ejaculation,I removed the condom carefully, their was no condom tear/bust and went to the bathroom to wash off with soap and water ( i did not wipe off with tissue before washing off). So on 28th morning,I woke up with vomiting, diarrhea and localized abdominal pain on my lower left. Had a very mild fever the next day and I was treated for malaria and I recovered, though abdominal pain persisted for a while. I tested for HIV at 30 days post exposure and it came back negative. On 18th June 2024,the abdominal pain returned with diarrhea, lower back burning sensation and low grade fever the next day. I carried out culture test And Ulcer test, some bacteria was found and ulcer was positive. I was treated for ulcer and the abdominal pain stopped.
So my fear: 1.Can ulcer alone cause the symptoms described above? 2. Are their other possible STI/UTI test I need to carryout? 3. Is it possible that while washing off,the reminant of vaginal fluid on the pubic area can wash down to the tip of the penis and hence cause infection ( note I did not wipe off with tissue before washing off, meaning i might still have sperm at the tip)? 3. Can HIV transmit this way? 4. What are my chances that my 4 weeks negative test will not change after 3 months?
From wide search,I learnt that HIV 2 which is predominant in west Africa is a bit harder to transmit.
I'm still experiencing intermittent abdominal pain, burning sensation.
Thanks. 🙏 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 |

Thanks everyone for ur insights and contributions. I have decided to go ahead to pick 2006 Audi A6 3.2Quattroo as against 2005 model. After a long research and enquiries, I have come to the conclusion that I can actually maintain the unit .My resolve is to make sure I diagnose the vehicle first to pinpoint the faults before I can allow a mechanic to touch it. From my research, this model shares underneath in common with C5 and I have already ordered for a vcds specific for VW,Audi while I wait for the ride to reach Naija. Thanks all |

1. roads 2. inavailability of part for this car. 3. No competent mechanics to fix this ride, i have alot of them parked in mechanic workshops all over the country. 4. You should have enough cash to import the parts to your location.
Why not go for a 2010 passat or Jetta less problems and worry. Tnx for ur response.u hv Audi allover d country, are u a car dealer? |
Personally, I would avoid the 3.2 FSI version. FSI engines are efficient, but the intake manifold needs periodic removal to decoke. The fuel pressures are almost as high as that in a diesel, so working on the fuel system with little or no knowledge is a recipe for disaster. The fuel pump is also mega money, as a regular A6 non-FSI will not work. Also consider the timing chain. It's at the back of the engine, and requires engine and transmission removal, then separation on the bench to replace it. It's a 15-hour job, over here Audi quote £2700 parts and labour to replace it. I myself charge £1900. Consider even the most basic parts for this job in Nigeria, and the available expertise to carry it out. My advice would be to go with the 4.2 V8 non-FSI. There is the 2.4 V6 too, if you can find a Quattro model, it won't be Multitronic / CVT. Good luck! Thanks Siena for ur timely response. I have already asked an agent to look out for the 3.2 v6,but will alert him for a change of plan. The problem is the possibility of of getting an A6 2.4 v6 from cotonu will be small.I have made enquires and is like we have more 2.4 multitronic than quattro. Secondly, the 4.2 v8 is kinda big for me.it will be a fuel guzzler. Please is their another A6 version you can recommend that has it timing in front for easy assessment? Also, is belt driven better than chain? I love the A6 model Thanks |
