The fact that graduate of the course do not make their course Valuable. As long as you graduate With good grade and well developed skill for field work, you might not
have obstacles in getting a job

It is obvious that most people don’t know the importance of geology, when you tell somebody that you are studying geology they would crack a joke telling you that you can only work in drilling companies. But as a matter of fact almost everything we see around us has a link with geology, the steel in automobile we use, the electric wire we use are mostly nickel, the water we drink, the rock we use in making jewelries and constructions e.t.c. From the perspective above we can see that we cannot escape geology.

Of course, the fact that many national economies, including developed countries such as Saudi Arabia, Russia, United State, Canada are tied to minerals and hydrocarbons in the earth. geology enable us to find and develop these resources. Minerals are the major source of income of most developing countries, not only developing countries but the whole world in general. Most of the international trade are solid minerals such as gold, diamond e.t.c. Most of the countries spend much on mining and exploration of natural resources which are lead by geologist and environmentalist. We can say that geology is the backbone of all nations be it developing or non developing country, geology enables us find and develop these natural resources.

Geology helps us to understand our planet and our place on it, a basic understanding of how the earth works should be part of everyone’s education, just like Shakespeare or ethics, by understanding our planet we will understand our origin and the history of the earth not just the history of the earth but evolution and life before us and how the earth came into an existence. Geology will help us to have better understanding of the earth. By using geological time scale to describe the timing and event that have occurred during Earth history.

We live at a time of a pronounced global change driven mostly by human activities only by understanding the earth system we can hope to make wise choices about a future that will affect all of us, by studying geology we can have better understanding of the earth system and explored unknown mineral. As the world is changing new minerals are also found because up to now we there are many unknown mineral. However, Natural disasters such as Earthquake, Flooding,  e.t.c. cause damages, Lost of lives. natural disaster endangered human life, natural disaster like Earth quake, acid rain, e.t.c are called geological hazard. In 2015 it was reported that 346 disasters, 22773 people died, 98.6 million people are affected and $66.5 billion economic damage. Geological hazard account for thousand of injuries and fatalities each year as well as billions of dollars in property damages. You may heard in the press the occurrences of geological hazard especially Earth quake, flooding, people lives in prone area. Geology would be of great help in future prediction and minimizing the risk of geological hazard.

Geologist who specialized in environment geology are involved in understanding the relation between human and their geological environment, environmental geologist deal with resolved problems that human occupation has caused in the environment in the environment. Some environmental geologist are engage in cleaning up chemical dump site and fuel spills around gas station, also prepare and test the strength of soil for government-financed projects such as building highways, dam or oil and gas drilling.
