Certainly wasn't. However, it is quite obvious that the standard of living in the country has fallen.

That sum of money wasn't easy to come by then.
Autos / Re: NÀÌJÁ THROWBACK! Honda Civic Purchase Receipt In 1976 by SAFDO: 5:32am On Mar 04, 2023
Those were the days!

Almost seems like you are talking about an entirely different country...??

ACRI:
The price of a brand new Peugeot vehicle was around #6000 naira at SCOA, my Father bought one around late seventies and early eighties. They had payment plans. I drove those vehicles cos I grew up to meet them.

University of ibadan was feeding students at dinning halls then and they had their laundry done for them too in the seventies.

The current political class destroyed this country shortly they took power in the eighties-bubu and nineties. Lets hope they fix it
Education / Re: NAIJA THROWBACK! University Of Ibadan Meal Ticket In 1972 by SAFDO: 3:24pm On Jan 25, 2023
Some interesting stats come to mind:

A. From only 6 universities in 1972, to 170 as at year 2021 (of which 43 are Federal, 79 Private, and 48 State, Universities).

B. Population 1972 = 58.17m; 2021 = 213.40m.

C. GDP (nominal) 1972 = $12.27B; 2021 = $440.8

D. GDP (per capita) 1972 = $209; 2021 = $2,065.75

E. Minimum monthly wage 1972 = N60; 2021 = N30,000

prof2007:

Interesting! And to think that someone actually kept that meal ticket for so long.

Indeed, those were the days of Nigeria's then nascent University system.

In 1972, these were the only 6 universities existing in Nigeria:

1. University of Ibadan (est. 1948).
2. University of Nigeria, Nsukka (est. 1955).
3. University of Ife (now OAU, est. 1961).
4. University of Northern Nigeria (now ABU, est. 1962).
5. University of Lagos (est. 1962).
6. University of Benin (est. 1970).

The next 7 universities were all established in 1975 ie

7. University of Maiduguri.
8. University of Calabar.
9. University of Jos.
10. University of Ilorin.
11. University of Port-Harcourt.
12. University of Sokoto (now Usman Danfodio University).
13. Abdullahi Bayero University College Kano (Now Bayero University Kano).

That is another angle...didn't realize he overthrew his own uncle.

Na wa o!

Yes he did.

Obiang's uncle, Francisco Macías Nguema was the first president of Equatorial Guinea from the country's independence in 1968 until his overthrow in 1979. He declared himself himself president for life in 1972,
and is widely remembered as one of the most brutal dictators in history.

On 03Aug1979, he was overthrown in a bloody coup d'état by his nephew Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and was subsequently tried and executed.

The father is the president, the son is the vice president. cheesy

Equatorial Guinea is running a hereditary oligarchy, apparently.

Of course, cronyism will be the order of the day.

Very sad indeed.

Cases of kidnap for ransom are becoming very rampant.

Not long ago, a farmer was abducted on the way to work at Ofada, and was only released after millions of naira were paid.

However, the risk of bandit attacks far outweighs the potential sight-seeing / experiential benefits!
