Politics / Emotions Well Up As Gov. Soludo Shuts Down Anambra Newspapers by saints4real: 4:15am On Jul 27, 2023
....To use premises for amusement park

By lFEANYI NDUKWE, AWKA

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has shut down the Anambra Printing and Publishing Corporation (ANPC), publishers of National Light Newspaper, Ka o di Taa (Igbo newspaper) Sportslight Extra (Sport newspaper). National Light was the corporation's flagship.

In a memo dated 21, July 2023 from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), addressed to the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, ANPC, Sir Chuka Nnabuife asked him to start the winding down of the corporation activities that would lead to the disengagement of its staff.

The memo addressed among other issues reasons for its closure as being moribund, economically unviable, and no longer fit for purpose.

A follow-up letter dated 21 July 2023, was issued late this afternoon from the Office of the Head of Service (HoS) to the MD/CEO, Chuka Nnabuife. The memo informed of the corporation shutdown with effect from 1st September 2023.

The two memos which were read to the staff of the corporation on Tuesday afternoon, left all in shock as they queried Gov. Soludo's motivation for the closure of the corporation as against his legacy of Solution Movement.

They spoke of Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo State resuscitating the state-owned newspaper, Statesman. The also noted other state-owned newspapers running. And wondered why Gov. Soludo whose workers' expectation was making the newspapers more viable and nationally accepted.

They asked where his SOLUTION mantra lies. Since he promised fixing anything broken during his electionering campaign as professor of economics. He should make the place more viable and not shutting it down others queried.

It was gathered that despite several pleas from some commissioners, except the Commissioner for Information, Mr Paul Nwosu that Gov. Soludo was bent on destroying the paper's legacy, the pride of the state. Insiders informed that Gov. Soludo wants to use the corporation's expansive premises for an amusement park, which they allegedly said was connected to his family but under the guise of the state government public-private initiative.
It would be noted that Mr. Nwosu is the publisher of Anambra Times, besides, secretly working to undermine the activities of the National Light right the days as Senior Special Adviser to former Governor Obi. Now found a good ground with Gov. Soludo to destroy National Light.

The National Light is Nigeria's longest-running thriving state-owned newspaper. It prides itself on never being hiatus for once, compared to other states' newspapers, it has been publishing for more than 30 years.

Health / APLSCD Laments, Cries Out To Prof Soludo For Help. by saints4real: 5:46pm On Jul 11, 2023
...accuses Commissioner of women affairs, Chiemma Homes for diverting welfare packages

By Ogochukwu Nwaokafor, AWKA

The Association of Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, (APLSCD ) has lamented bitterly over the unfair attitudes being meted on her by some groups, individuals and particularly Anambra Ministry of Women Affairs while calling on the executive governor, Prof Charles Soludo to intervene.

Briefing the pressmen at the APLSCD home in Nwagu Agulu, during the weekend, the National coordinator, Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu urged the state government especially the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo to give support and attention to the association as promised during a courtesy visit to intimate her of the activities, challenges and frustration of the association with the Ministry.

Noting that, the persons living with this disorder were neglected and left to suffer a decision that wasn't theirs until they came together under the loving arms of an association to fight and fend for themselves and their cause.

According to Aisha, Their cause which was simple, 'allow us to breathe; provide certain welfare that would enable us live a normal life like other persons living with different disorders'.

She noted that the Commissioner of women affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo has constantly ignored appeals of the Association even after acknowledging the her presence. This, the association has taken in good faith, and have understood to be possible consequences of not running a home that allows adoption which has been said to be more beneficial and Juicy to the ministry, and as such the association is likely perceived as a liability to the state by the commissioner since SCD persons are considered not adoptable.' She said

Mrs Maduagwu however frowned at the lackadaisical attitudes of the ministry of Women Affairs led by Mrs Ify Obinabo and her cohorts while she alleged that the office was beginning to operate an illegal business of adoption in collaboration with some children's Home.

She accused one Chiemma Home behind Government House, Awka of collaborating with one Mrs Helen Eze and Hon Ify Obinabo to ignore, divert and obtain welfare packages ment for APLSCD during the World sickle cell remembrance day.

"the former Commissioner of Health, Mr. Vincent Okpala neglecting all advice from well meaning Anambrarians withdrew members of the APLSCD who were first on the monitoring team and replaced them with individuals who are not in the medical field nor living with sickle cell disorder. This is a clear contravention of the stipulations of the Anambra State Sickle Cell law".

"In order to achieve their agenda of using Sickle Cell Disorder as a business enterprise hiding under the cover of the state government. These individuals Mrs. Chinwe Nnagbo and Miss Ifunanya Faithmicheal Nwanadile  joined the association with the guise of working for their selfish and criminal cause, claiming that their children were living with sickle cell disorder. Unknown to the association they were working towards cloning the Association's activities and exploiting the association to their advantage".

"When the association found out their ulterior motives and disbanded them from the association they started a parallel association in cohort with the commissioner for child and Women Affairs, who offered them Government protection to also operate a deceptive home (Chiemma Community Children Home) using Sickle Cell as their initial front, just to hoodwink the unsuspecting government functionaries to patronise their adoption racketting business and looting what naturally should go to persons living with Sickle Cell disorder".

Mrs Aisha noted that the organization enjoyed warming support only from individuals, Church and organisations, wife of the former Governor of the state, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano who showed the association love and care until the present administration came in with some appointees who were bent on tarnishing the good image of Prof Charles Soludo by neglecting as well as diverting the welfare packages of the orphanage home.

With there support and assistance the organization was able to record many successes for her members, from paying their school fees, building a vocational training centre in Agulu, providing them immediate and effective healthcare when they need them (which they need quite often), providing welfare needs for them. In a bid to ensure that their members do not continue to suffer the degradation and neglect they often get from their families.

Mrs Aisha and Members of Association of Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, appeals to the State Governor, Commissioner for Health and Anambrarians to please come to her aid to put an end to these shenanigans that has endangered and continue to endanger the lives of persons living with sickle cell disorder in Anambra State and also appealing that Anambra State Sickle Cell law should be respected.

Especially the Section 10: sub section 3: of the Sickle Cell Disease (Control and Eradication) Law, 2019 stipulates persons qualified to be a member of the monitoring team of sickle cell disorder in the state. One of the category of these persons should be a member of the Association of Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder amongst other members from different medical professions.

'The Anambra State Sickle cell Act was signed into law in 2019 by the then Governor, Chief Willie Obiano'.

Crime / Family Of Slain Keke Rider Cry Out For Justice Against His Murderers* by saints4real: 8:07pm On Jun 28, 2023
*By lFEANYI NDUKWE,*

Emmanuel Onah, father to the slain Keke driver, Christian Onah has cried out for justice over the brutal murder of his son by Ojoto vigilante commander and his accomplices.

Onah further lamented that another painful aspect of the ugly story is that the perpetrators have refused to disclose where they actually buried the body.

Onah, a 25 year old tricycle rider from Ovoko community, Igbo-Eze South LGA, Enugu State but residing in Oba, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State was declared missing on 28th May, 2023 when he failed to return after going out for the day’s business of tricycle riding transportation.

His neighbour in Oba had raised alarm over his whereabouts and subsequently reported to the police. The owner of the tricycle the missing Christian rides under hire purchase agreement engaged the services of a security tracker that eventually yielded positive fruits leading to the arrest of a man in possession of the missing tricycle used by Christian.

On further interrogation, the man confessed buying the keke from Ojoto community vigilante operatives. When the police arrested the vigilante that sold the keke to him, he also subsequently mentioned the vigilante commander as the one who masterminded the abduction and subsequent killing of Christian and allegedly throwing his corpse at Mmili John Ojoto, a popular river in that side of the community.

Meanwhile, police operatives from Ogidi Division, Anambra State have arrested the Ojoto community vigilante commander and two others for the kidnap and murder of Christian Oluchukwu Onah.

Mr. Onah while calling for a thorough investigation into all who had a hand in the killing and total justice over the murder, he appealed to the police for diligent prosecution leading also to recovery of his son’s body.

When contacted for confirmation, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu said he has not been briefed over the incident. He promised to reach out to the police division concerned for proper update.

Politics / Open Letter To Prof. Soludo On The Mou Between The State And Eedc* by saints4real: 11:01pm On Jun 05, 2023
...._NEED FOR MONITOR TO AVOID RIP-OFF_
By Titus Ugo Nwoye

Sir,

One of the most significant milestones registered by your administration is the signing of Memorandum of understanding between the state government and the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC.

This is because electricity play a very important role in any industrialization effort of any society. This singular effort has significantly improved the supply of power to industries and households in the state. Unfortunately, this is where the good news stopped.

Its important to ask at what price is the electricity company distributing its Power to the public? How is the government making sure that *EEDC* is living up to its own side of the bargain? How are they being monitored to ensure that they are not ripping off the public needlessly? The truth of the matter is that the staff of *EEDC* are devising several strategies to continuously short change the consuming public. They have deployed the use of estimated bills to continuously fleece the public of their hard money at this very hard economic times. A three bedroom flat with sparsely electric fittings is billed N60,000 a month while two bedroom apartment incured N40,000 and room is billed N20,000 a month whether there's only one television in the room.

Unfortunately, efforts to procure meters is met with a brick wall. According to a staff who spoke on conditions of anonymity, to get a pre paid meter cost N65,000 plus N15,000 installation charges. And you have to wait for months to get one after paying for it.

Another way they shortchange the unsuspecting public is that their staff often collude with criminals as their contractors to vandalize transformers and cable wires. In such a situation of vandalism, the affected community must pay in full before the field officers will come to fix it.

So what happens is that if any transformer is vandalized, the staff will insist that the community should contribute money to fix it otherwise you will be forced to stay in darkness for months. They will never attempt to replace the vandalized items notwithstanding the fact that they Will be losing millions as long as the public is in darkness.
Recently a community behind government house, ifite, Awka had its wire cables in the transformer stolen. They were forced to pay N10,000 each to have the transformer repaired. It took about three weeks to have the transformer repaired and the consumers were in darkness for more than three weeks. Could you imagine that a week after the repair of the transformer, the consumers were slammed with different excessive bills.

A situation whereby consumers are made to pay excessive bills for lights and also made to bear the cost of repairs of EEDC transformers definitely defeats the purpose of the MOU.

Hence, Your Excellency, we believe you mean well for the state by entering into such MOU but the government through its officials should have its eyes open and monitor how the *MOU* is being implemented so that the purpose is not hijacked by some greedy staff of EEDC.
