DAKKADA LUXURY ESTATE COMES ALIVE

….. As AKS Surveyors Applaud Gov Emmanuel's legacy project.

Friday September 24th, 2021 Akwa Ibom State will again witness another milestone of Governor Udom Emanuel’s completion agenda as the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osibanjo, SAN, will flag off the Dakkada Luxury Estate along airport road in uyo, the State Capital.

A lot of activities are presently on going to ensure a successful flag off of the first ever Luxury Estate in Akwa Ibom State.

In preparation for the event, the perimeter survey, Layout (parcellation) Survey, Perimeter fencing, internal roads, construction gate and security houses are carried out by the State Government through the Ministry of Lands and Water Resources in conjunction with the Office of the State Surveyor General.

The State Surveyor General, Surv. (Mrs) Emem Isang, fnis, commended the effort of the Hon Commissioner of Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umoh Eno who, according to her, has worked tirelessly to interprete governor Udom Emmanuel's vision of making Akwa Ibom the home for all.

Surv. Isang advanced that Pst. Umoh Eno's support to the state Governor's Completion Agenda particularly in the lands and housing sector is worthy of emulation for by all.

She noted that the  Dakkada Luxury Estate would solve the housing needs for Akwa Ibom people as the estate is open for all Akwa Ibomites and lovers of the State to secure decent accommodation.

RE: AKWA IBOM SURVEYOR GENERAL IN LAND GRABBING SCANDAL – PUTTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

Our attention has been drawn to the false and malicious allegations peddled against the person of the Akwa Ibom State Surveyor General, Mrs. Emem Isang, on the above issue.

Ordinarily, one would have chosen to ignore such allegations, but for the fact that in most cases nowadays, silence is an inappropriate response. Some people may even regard silence for the admittance of their falsehood. Also, some silences are capable of leading the populace to wrong beliefs.

We try to look at the purported publication from two major angles; Firstly, the write-up emanates from hungry journalist enclave made up of political jobbers who go about writing to please their inglorious sponsors. This bunch is fond of publishing for political neophytes without proper investigations.

We equally view this as emanating from the uncultured and uneducated political opportunists who take delight in pulling down people with professional pedigrees. This group imbibes the pull-down syndrome instead of celebrating professionalism and performance towards the industrialization and developmental strides of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, and his administration.

They have completely failed to realize that regimes come and go, and that structures and policies are designed according to needs. With changes and developments, new needs call for restructuring to accommodate contemporary visions.

One of the major functions of the Surveyor General is to measure and determine boundaries for all after directives from the Honorable Commissioner for Lands. She has no right whatsoever to dispossess anyone or communities of their land.

All the allegations and perceptions leveled against the State Surveyor General are completely false and more of assumptions irrespective of how nicely the lies are presented. Recall how Mrs. Potiphar presented hers, even using Joseph’s shirt as false proof. However, one thing remains clear with every such malicious act, “Truth and facts are very stubborn and sacred things. No matter how they are manipulated or twisted, truth will certainly prevail”.

Without any investigation from the community and village head of Mbiabong Ikot Akpabio, Etidung Sunday Offiong, the Surveyor General has been maliciously portrayed in your publication as a “Land Grabber”. All these and other lies have been peddled to suit the peculiarities and caprices of certain persons who already felt that the space in question belongs to them because of the proximity to their houses.

Champions of this falsehood have forgotten that the Government has exclusive right to the use of Government lands at its disposal according to needs.
When will the people of Akwa Ibom stop this “pulling-down syndrome”? This is the first woman to occupy the position of Surveyor General in the state, and the third in Nigeria. This woman that has made giant leaps within a short time should rather be celebrated and not intimidated or harassed.

The perception that one has performed well, is always strengthened by his/her track records and future plans. Achievers and positive change agents are often perceived as disruptive and that they move against conventions. Their actions and responses to positive changes sometimes create turmoil, attracting hate and controversies for them. Such is the case with the Surveyor General here.

For the avoidance of doubt, let one particular incontestable proof be presented, that the State Surveyor General has moved to grab the said land for her private residence; otherwise, such allegations should be dismissed as not only false and malicious, but also as crafty and unintelligent assumptions.

We would have said “Kudos”, but no “Kudos” to your so-called volunteer community stakeholders, Mr. Eyo Akpan and Mr. Bassey for backing your write-up even with the thread of traditional injunction. May they not change their tunes when the chips are down. Recall how one of such men-pleasers recently cried and begged when the court asked him to pay some damages for malicious allegations.

A'IBOM TRADERS STORM GARRI FACTORY, SET TO PARTNER FEYREP ON FOOD SUFFICIENCY

By Eberefiak Jnr

In a bid to reiterate their resolve to support the Dakadda Philosophy of Gov Udom Emmanuel, Some Traders on Thursday stormed the Garri Factory at Oruk Anam to identify with Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Programme, FEYReP, a non-governmental Organization that partners Akwa Ibom State Government to establish the Factory and mass produce Quality Garri for sale at affordable price to the people of the state.

The Traders who were led by the immediate past Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade and Market Matters; Akparawa Idorenyin Raphael stormed the factory amidst enthusiasm and were conducted round the Factory by the Former Commissioner for Agriculture and Managing Director of the Factory, Dr. Mathew Ekaette.

Speaking during the October Visit, on behalf of the Traders, Akparawa Raphael, Mrs Glory Dickson and Mrs Christy Essien in their seperate remarks lauded the Wife of the Governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, for establishing such a magnificent Factory through her pet Project, with the aim of supporting the Governor to actualize the Completion Agenda especially in the area of Food availability and sufficiency, adding that the Garri Factory will help reduce the hardship faced by traders who travel far to buy Garri in commercial Quantity for consumption in the state.

The Traders pledged to partner FEYReP in order to get the garri to the doorsteps of Akwa Ibom People.

Dr. Ekaette in his response while conducting the traders round the factory, thanked the Traders for deeming it fit to visit the factory and see for themselves the reality of mass producing and baggaging the Garri in a very serene and conducive environment that meets the International Standard of food production and certified by the responsible agencies, maitaining that their visit and their decision to partner FEYReP in getting the finished products reach the doorsteps of Akwa Ibom People has indeed encouraged them to do more.

Ekaette however added that, it is no more news that Akwa Ibom State Government is committed to practically demonstrate the zeal of providing sufficient and affordable food to the residents of the state, stressing that strategic and necessary steps towards transforming the state to an enviable height where promoting of food sufficiency is Paramount, are put in place and the success story of Food availability cannot be rewritten or overemphasized without the mention of Garri Factory as encapsulated in the five point agenda. He added that, the Government is focused on policies aimed at improving the standard of living in the state through partnership with NGOs such as FEYReP.

"So far, the partnership with FEYReP to build an over 50tons Capacity Garri Factory in Oruk Anam L.G.A has yielded socio-economic fruit such that there is an adequate, accessibility and affordability of food with safety and nutritional values for a healthy living for the people of the state"...he said.

As posited by the United Nation committee on world food security and adopted by the international food policy and security "all people at all times must have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their food preference and Dietary needs for an active healthy life, hence the need to prioritize the provision of food sufficiently for the people at all levels". This and many other cogent reasons could have informed the decision of the state Government to embark on a journey of providing sufficient food at affordable price for the people resident in the state.

ATI ANNANG AT 25: GOV EMMANUEL DEMONSTRATES POLITICS WITHOUT BITTERNESS

Governor Udom Emmanuel took a major leap in his message of unity and brotherliness yesterday at the Ati Annang Foundation headquarters in Ikot Ekpene.

During the Silver Jubilee of Ati Annang, he defied political party boarders and celebrated the leader of the APC in Akwa Ibom State, Atuekong Don Etiebet, on his induction into the Annang Hall of Fame.

Don Etiebet was honoured as a former Federal Minister from Annang Nation, a pacesetter in the telecommunications and ICT industry in the country. He was also recognised for his ability to float a national political party (now defunct NCPN) and his courage to emerge a strong contender in the 1999 presidential elections, where Olusegun Obasanjo emerged winner.

Governor Emmanuel described Chief Etiebet in glowing terms as "Èté ñwân idá", (my precious father inlaw)

He also presented the induction certificate to him personally, thereby sending a strong message to other prominent Annang sons who erroneously shun the unity and progressive nature of the assemblage on the basis of politics.

Governor Emmanuel has repeatedly insisted that political parties are mere vehicles for political attainments and that what should matter more for Akwa Ibom people should be the peace, unity and development of the state, especially since elections had long been won and lost.

SMEs FINANCING: AKWA IBOM TO PARTNER BANK OF INDUSTRY

>>>>Aniekan James Ekah

Lack of access to working capital for micro-entrepreneurs and small business owners who desire to borrow for business purposes to enhance their businesses will soon be a thing of the past as the Ministry of Trade and Investment, Akwa Ibom State, has expressed readiness to foster a sustainable partnership with the Bank of Industry (BOI).

This was made known at a meeting between the Honorable Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Akwa Ibom State, Prince Akpabio, and Mr. Richard Imonije, State Manager, SME Group, Bank of Industry, on Thursday in Uyo, the Akwa State capital.

Speaking during the meeting, the Commissioner acknowledged the contributions of the Bank of Industry in addressing Nigeria's rising economic profile in line with its mandate to provide financial assistance for the establishments of new enterprises, the expansion, diversification, modernization of existing enterprises, and the rehabilitation of ailing industries, stressing that, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are becoming increasingly important for the creation and development of a modern, dynamic and knowledge-based economy, that is why, Governor Udom Emmanuel, who runs a listening government, sensitive to the plights of SMEs in the state, will stop at nothing but to provide the necessary support for entrepreneurs by creating a comfortable business environment and partnering with relevant agencies to attract funding for SMEs in the state.

Akpabio further stated that the Ministry of Trade and Investment had already hit the ground running by creating a forum of interaction with SMEs across the state and that the July edition saw over 500 Entrepreneurs coming to share their success stories, challenges, and prospects with the Ministry, maitaining that such forum has helped the Ministry identify factors affecting the development of SMEs, and that necessary steps will be taken within the shortest possible time, to alleviate basic challenges while creating new opportunities for SMEs in the state.

In his reaction, Mr. Imonije said the purpose of his visit was to create a synergy between the Ministry and Bank of Industry (BOI), as his office oversees the relationship between BOI and SMEs in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States. He added that the BOI has earmarked One Billion Naira for SMEs financing in Akwa Ibom State to stimulate the local economy but some of these businesses lack basic Economic instruments like C-of-Os to access these funds while he decried the attitude of some SMEs towards business development, financing, and innovations in Akwa Ibom.

Mr. Imonije used the medium to pour encomiums on the Governor for his Industrialization Drive and Commerce and Investment Boss for the feat recorded so far in interpreting the visions of the state Governor, assuring the ministry and Akwa Ibom State Government that Bank of Industry (BOI) is on ground to partner with credible business operators in Akwa Ibom and not "portfolio businessmen" whose stock in trade is to divert funds.

Responding, the Commissioner said that Governor Udom Emmanuel's Completion Agenda seeks to create an enabling economic environment where at least 30,000 Micro, Small and Medium Scale Businesses across the State are established in addition to more than 20,000 Businesses that are to be boosted, in line with his Dakkada Philosophy, and that the Ministry of Trade and Investment, under his watch, will fast-track the approval and subsequent release of C-of-Os to credible businesses duly registered in the state, whose tax papers and other relevant documents are up-to-date, so that they can access these funds, inject same into their businesses while stimulating the local economy in the process.

Prince Akpabio used the opportunity to intimate his august visitor about the test run of Kings Flour Mill, Onna, one of the investment strides of Governor Udom Emmanuel, adding that the 500 metric tons mill, built on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with hi-tech and fully automated machines, can process 24,000 bags of flour daily and that on full utilization, the mill will create jobs for the teeming youth population with an expansive value chain for the people.

CultureThe Rise And Rise Of Ati Annang At 25 by SaintSixtus(op): 1:19pm On Aug 11, 2019
THE RISE AND RISE OF ATI ANNANG

Ati Annang, a foremost socio-cultural organization with origin in Akwa Ibom State is 25. It is its Silver Jubilee, Silver Jubilee of course, is the 25th anniversary of an important event like in the instance of the milestone Ati Annang has weathered and breasted.

Born as Annang Youth Movement on February 23, 1994 in a dingy room in Port Harcourt, Ati Annang has metamorphosed into a big global brand with branches in countries like United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Australia etc. with mammoth membership in those countries. In Nigeria, Ati Annang, which was initially localized in Rivers and Akwa Ibom States, has metastasized its presence in many States of the federation, turning the group into a household name.

Ati Annang via its origin is a study in faith and commitment to a cause. When Ati Annang was conceived, none of the progenitors is said to have been a man of superfluous means. They were all struggling people and they were young. But they had a shared vision, a dream they fought to push beyond the realm of mirage. Engrossed with passion, they held on to the dream with fidelity. They weathered odds, made sacrifices, suffered discomfort and sacrificed enormously to keep the group afloat. Today, Ati Annang has ballooned into a giant and no one can remember those teething times.

Ati Annang is a testament of the scriptural admonition that we should not despise the days of little beginning. One can wager a bet that those who shared that little room in Port Harcourt to nurture and sire the group that morphed into Ati Annang are often jolted by the size and ebullience that today define the organization.

The pride of any man is in his heritage. Heritage embodies the traditions, achievements, beliefs all of which are part of the history of a people. It is through heritage that we have identity and man is known by identity. Ati Annang was therefore conceived with the collective aim of defining, articulating and implementing the goals and ideals of Annang as an ethnic group. It was to also use the platform as an ethnic group to promote love, justice and progress of its members and community while encouraging the preservation of Annang history, language and culture.

Within the context of the aforestated vision, how has Ati Annang faired? Has the group done enough to merit the ostentatious celebration like the weeklong Silver Jubilee which celebration commences today, August 10, 2019 to finish on August 18, 2019? The unequivocal answer is, yes. Ati Annang has not only attained its vision, met its objectives, given Annang a pride of place, it has been a success story, standing shoulder to shoulder with other major socio-cultural organisations in the State, nay the country.

Ati Annang has held many celebrations since its inception but none has happened without a remarkable development, at least in the past more than one decade. The body has undertaken interventions in many sectors including education, health, sports and even infrastructure especially in schools where the deficit is seen to be significantly acute. The group has extended scholarship to many, especially indigent Annang sons and daughters, who manifest undying interest in education. Today, Ati Annang can boast of secondary schools’ students and post tertiary institution people who were beneficiaries of the organisation’s scholarship scheme.

There are also still a tribe of people currently in schools enjoying Ati Annang scholarship. Indeed, Ati Annang is one organisation that has refused to exist in a vacuum. It has tethered its existence to the society by identifying its concerns and prospecting for solutions for them.

The Silver Jubilee of Ati Annang can be described as a worthy journey deserving of celebration. The scorecard of the group so far is enviable. With renewed commitment and the quality of innovations introduced into the Silver Jubilee anniversary, Ati Annang is still safely in the hands of good managers whose thinking caps are still fecund and fertile.

The programme of events for the Silver Jubilee bespeaks in clear terms the depth of the imagination of the planners. Even though the events begin on August 10, 2019 with a prolonged duration of one week, there are some major highlights which distinguish this particular anniversary from others. Some of such include the presentation of the Annang Language Development Presentation, Anniversary Lecture and Exhibition of Annang Arts, scheduled for Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Ati Annang Secretariat at Ikot Ekpene.

The beginning of real progress for any language group is the development of the orthography of that language. If Ati Annang has succeeded in sponsoring the development of this momentous milestone, then it has written its name in gold in the annals of Annang history.

Saturday, August 17 would also be momentous in the wake of the weeklong celebration of the Ati Annang Silver Jubilee. The day which is aptly tagged as the grand finale would witness awards to 50 deserving Annang sons and daughters and inauguration and induction into the Annang Hall of Fame. This particular event is expected to boost the social service orientation and redirect public consciousness to the reality that the Annang cultural value recognises and honours those who do them proud. Serving as a maiden edition, it is to be instituted as an annual event. Of course, the usual scholarship awards, back packs to primary school children and screening for high blood and diabetes would also be on hand.

Ati Annang has made its existence meaningful. It has become a platform not only for the protection of Annang but for meeting the needs of the people, building bridges of love and fostering unity across the State. It is why the group is enjoying a consistent rise through its exceptional service delivery to the people.

NSIMA EKERE SEEKS TO AMEND PETITION FOR A SECOND TIME AT TRIBUNAL.

Nsima Ekere & Anor vs. H.E Udom Emmanuel & Ors

The Governorship election petition tribunal resumed sitting today, Friday, June 21, 2019.

Quick Reminder: Nsima Ekere, at the last adjourned date, had, through his counsel prayed for Extension of Time to obtain Documents and file Responses to the Respondents Applications

Counsel to the Petitioner, Okutepa, SAN had prayed the court for an extension of the pre-trial period to enable them prepare their responses to the applications as filed by the Respondents.

The counsel to the Respondents, Chief Assam Assam, SAN for the 1st Respondent, Uko Udom, SAN for the 2nd Respondent and Offiong Offiong, SAN for the 3rd Responent were uanimous in their position that they would not oppose the application of the Petitioner except that he cannot predicate his prayers on unsubstantiated allegations against Respondents.

The court had yielded to the prayers of the Petitioner and extended the pre-trial period to June 21, 2019 for completion of pre-trial. The court had however frowned seriously at the application of the Petitioner. The court had emphasized that time is of the essence in an election petition case and therefore charged all parties to ensure to abide by the timelines as indicated by the Electoral Act or as directed by the Tribunal.

But at the resumed sitting of the tribunal, Nsima Ekere through his counsel is canvassing again to substitute the error-fraught copy of his petition with a clean copy.

Should the court grant Nsima Ekere the leave to effect this replacement, this would be the second time petitioner would be effecting corrections to errors in his petition

PoliticsAks Pdp Chairman, Paul Ekpo Addresses Press: " The Evil Frame Up Muat Fail" by SaintSixtus(op): 4:47pm On Jan 20, 2019
THE EVIL FRAME UP THAT MUST FAIL, BEING THE TEXT OF THE PRESS BRIEFING BY OBONG PAUL EKPO, STATE CHAIRMAN PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY AKWA IBOM STATE CHAPTER ON THE PLAN TO FRAME UP AND ARREST KEY LEADERS OF OUR PARTY

Gentlemen of the Press,

We have received credible intelligence that on Monday, 21st January, 2019 or on any other day during APC rallies, buses branded as PDP buses or vehicles bearing state government number plates, will be loaded with arms and occupied by some criminals, heading to the venue of the APC rally. On approaching, the buses and their occupants will be arrested and the contents of the buses displayed for all to see as a major security breakthrough. Additionally, the criminals will mention some PDP top shots as their financiers, necessitating their arrest and subsequent prosecution under the anti-terrorism Act . This plot which is hatched and sponsored by the opposition APC is aimed at arresting and incarcerating our key leaders and keeping them away from circulation throughout the elections. This is, to say the least, very crude, anachronistic and antediluvian, signaling APCs imminent defeat at the approaching polls.

We have stated before and will reiterate now that, we are a peace loving party, operating within the ambit of the law. Our leaders who are currently being targeted by the opposition, are innocent Nigerians with proven integrity. They do not engage in arms stockpiling, or procurement of violence in any form. It is therefore very unfortunate that people who should be planning for elections, are rather hatching evil plans on how to arrest people. It is evident even from the peaceful way we conducted our primaries, that we are very peaceful people. Pre and post primaries, there wasnt a single gunshot, or death unlike the APC, where scores of people were reported dead in different parts of the state. In Okobo local government area, an entire police station was razed by supporters of an APC aspirant, who felt shortchanged during their primaries.

In the past few weeks, the leadership of the party, has been inundated with calls from different parts of the state, where our supporters have been wantonly arrested and incarcerated, without any lawful justification. In Essien Udim, scores of our youths and elders have been arrested on trumped up charges of defacing or destroying posters belonging to the President. In Nsit Atai, our supporters are slammed with grave charges, just to cause the court to deny them bail. In Nsit Ibom, one of our supporters was stabbed by a member of the opposition in front of the DPO, and till date the assailant has not been pulled in for question or arrested. In Ikot Abasi, people who are supporters who refuse to supporter their brother are mercilessly beaten and harassed. Even Journalists and various press men sympathetic to our cause are daily harassed and intimidated.

We can assure the opposition, that no amount of arrest and intimidation will bend the will of the people. The greater the opposition, the more resolute the will of the people will be to ensure their resounding failure. Our people will vote their choice and defend their votes.

We hereby state as follows:
1. That we have not and will not send anybody to attempt to disrupt rallies or meetings of any other political party.
2. That we call on security agencies to note this intelligence and act swiftly. Recall that we had during the House of Assembly imbroglio, we had notified of an impending attack on the Assembly.

3. We have been victims of the wanton destruction of our publicity materials. Our billboards and other campaign materials have been maliciously destroyed and in reaction, we wrote to the police seeking their intervention. Up till now, we have not been informed of any warning, apprehension or arrest on the subject matter, rather we are witnessing arrest of PDP supporters for the destruction of non-existing billboards of the opposition.
4. That anybody can, without the authority of the brand owner, use the brand material (especially political brands) on a vehicle or any other surface. Additionally, most of those in the opposition today, were previously in government and are still in possession of government vehicles with number plates, which can be used for nefarious activities.

In conclusion, we urge our supporters not to fear, conscious that we serve a living God who is able to fight for us. The scripture in Psalms 70:2 is very prophetic, it states that May those who want to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace. Amen.

*2019: EX COMMISSIONER, OTHER APC CHIEFTAINS FLEE ARREST*
*…AS POLICE NAB TWO FOR MURDER, ARSON*

By Edet Archibong

The APC family in Akwa Ibom State has been thrown into anxiety, following the arrest of some prominent members of the party in Uyo in the early hours of Tuesday by men of the Nigerian Police Force.
While two members of the party have been arrested, others including a former Commissioner for Economic Development under the Godswill Akpabio administration, are on the run, with the police closing up on their trail.

The Police, reportedly relying on a petition by prominent APC stalwarts are said to have arrived Uyo from the IGP special squad in Abuja, picking one Uwatex at his residence and another person popularly known as Tony Abak Road who was heading to drop off his kid in school.

The said Tony, is also the head of a notorious group, Renaissance in Uyo.

According to an inside source, the police may have been acting based on a petition from an APC Governorship aspirant from Uyo Local Government, and an Uyo based APC Federal House of Representatives aspirant, over the killing of their supporter one Ukeme Efanga in Uruan during the APC Governorship primaries.

They were also accused of being behind the burning of a police truck in Afaha Offot, Uyo during the widely criticized APC primaries in the State last month.

Investigations reveal that the two arrested suspects have been detained separately at the Mobile Police Base along Idoro road, Uyo and the Zone 6 Police Headquarters in Calabar, while intensified surveillance are being conducted for the fleeing ones.

The fleeing APC duo are not unfamiliar with the law enforcement officers, as one of them had previously been rounded up in connection with the murder of the Ekpenyong brothers in Uyo, during the reign of Chief Godswill Akpabio as governor.

He was said to have shared a cell with his absconding counterpart, a Professor of Economics, who was previously arrested in connection with his alleged role in the kidnap of an expatriate, with the Stemco Nig. Ltd in Ikot Ekpene in 2008.
The said professor, also got indicted in an attempted assassination of a serving Commissioner for Works during the past regime in the state.

The Professor, now one of the campaign managers of APC, was summarily dismissed by then Governor Godswill Akpabio, after his wife was allegedly found in possession of the marked currencies, used as ransom for the released of the kidnapped construction official.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the Managing Director of a federal intervention agency, who hails from the state, is said to be making frantic efforts to secure the release of his alleged supporters.

The former deputy governor's alleged pestering interferences, it was revealed, caused the two suspected armed thugs to be transferred from the State Police Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, to their present locations for unhindered investigations.
PoliticsNigeria Needs More Leaders Like Udom Emmanuel - Obasanjo by SaintSixtus(op): 10:04am On Oct 29, 2018
OBASANJO: NIGERIA NEEDS MORE LEADERS LIKE UDOM EMMANUEL
Nigerian former President Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigeria is in dire need of more leaders in the mould of Governor Udom Emmanuel, who is focused and committed to the welfare of his people.
Speaking to Government House correspondents during a visit to the State Governor, Obasanjo said that he was able to make independent enquiries before arrival, to confirm the record achievements of Mr. Emmanuel.
“I listened to people, I made enquiries before I came here and then of course, I came here and I saw things on the ground and I've encouraged the Governor ...”
Speaking on the need for Akwa Ibom people to remain in support of Mr. Emmanuel, Chief Obasanjo said, “I also think you don't change a good thing you cherish, you hold it, you use it.
“I think one thing that we must understand in this country, leaders don't flock and when we see a good leader, let us get the best out of it.”
He described Mr Emmanuel as a great leader, and charged for support to get the best out of him.
“I thank you all and I've assured the Governor and the people of this state that I will come back for greater celebrations,” Obasanjo said.
Earlier while worshiping with his host at Qua Iboe Church, 112, Ikot Ekpene Road,Uyo, the former President told the congregation that Governor Udom Emmanuel has performed well and deserves to be re-elected to continue to do more.
He labelled Governor Emmanuel as a good product, asserting that, this is a good product, let's have him for continuity.
Children of God, I can assure you, the Governor has no fear, he will stand still, please stand with him and he will take you to the Promised Land.”
Speaking at the church service, Mr Emmanuel described Obasanjo as his political father, and predicted that his visit to Akwa Ibom, signifies more positive developments for the state and for the country.
Apparently reacting to speculations that he may have been too hard against Senator Godswill Akpabio, Governor Emmanuel, attested that when he leaves office in 2023, he would be very happy to receive from his successor, the same measure of treatment he meted on his predecessor.
“I stand in the pulpit as a Christian to say, when it is my time, may God give me the kind of successor I have been to my predecessor.”
“The Bible says, in all these things we are more than conquerors. The Bible says in Deuteronomy, that the Lord would not hearken unto Balak, and all he meant for evil, God turned it into blessings for me.”

50 REASONS OBASANJO ENDORSED GOV UDOM EMMANUEL FOR SECOND TERM

Aniekeme Finbarr

As Nigeria's longest serving leader, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday declared support for Governor Udom Emmanuel. In his words, "God is a God of Continuity. Since he created the world. I always say to myself and to my family, If something is good, keep it. Children of God, you have a good product in your hand and if I have a good product in my hand, I will not change it, I will keep it. Governor Udom Emmanuel is a good product, let's have him for continuity."

Here are 30 reasons to buttress Obasanjo's call for continuity

1. In less than 4 years, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has delivered good governance, life touching projects, peace, political cohesion, rededicated the state to God and managed a depressing recession.

2. Statistics shows that Akwa Ibom is second on the table of the few states in Nigeria that attract foreign investors. The industrialization agenda is blooming with the Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Factory, the largest on the continent and the Metering Solutions Factory, 9 other industries are running.

3. The Jubilee Syringe Factory was Commissioned by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on September 23,2017 produces One million syringes daily. The syringe Factory currently employs at least 100 Akwa Ibom people, who were trained in Turkey with just five experts working there. Currently, more Akwa Ibom youths are abroad undergoing training and will return to boost the manpower needs of the company, as the factory looks to expand in future...Amazed by this development, Vice President Osinbajo, who is of the APC said Governor Udom Emmanuel is a clever Governor.

6. As we speak there are Local Government Areas that have not known road construction in the last ten years, some since they were born. They now have completed or ongoing road projects.

The people of Itie Ikpe, Nkana Itie Ikpe, Ikpe Ikot Nkon, Obotme, Ukpakon, Edem Urua, Ikwueme, Okpoto, Ikpanya in Akwa Ibom State did not dream that in their lifetime, they will have a tarred road take them home. Since they were born, the Ikpe Ikot Nkon - Obotme - Arochukwu road is the first tarred road in the axis.

Our brothers in Abia State are so happy, from Amuvi, Asaga, Obinkita, Ibom, Ututu to Ihechiowa, the story is the same, there is a tarred road now linking Akwa Ibom to Abia State.

The 14.1km Ikpe Ikot Nkon - Obot Mme - Arochukwu road in Ini Local Government Area is almost completed and the people of Arochukwu in Abia State have already offered a chieftaincy title to honour Governor Udom Emmanuel in appreciation of the road, which ends at the boundary between the two states. He politely declined...AMEM?

7. Work is on-going in the following projects: the 11,00 hectares coconut plantation; and 16,000 hectares cassava plantation in 15 LGA’s. Youths numbering 450 have been trained in cocoa maintenance, shedding and pruning and they are using these skills to grow cocoa all over the state. We have also subsidized fertilizers and we have given oil palm & cocoa seedlings to farmers all over the State. Other projects include the Akwa Prime Hatchery, which produces 10,000 day old chicks weekly, the cultivation of over 100 hectares of rice, and the Free Improved Corn seed distribution program for farmers.

13. Governor Emmanuel has built a sports complex at West Itam Secondary school opposite the NNPC Mega station along Uyo Ikot Ekpene Road. 9 more to go.

TEXT OF THE STATE BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MR. UDOM EMMANUEL, GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE ON THE OCCASION OF THE 31ST ANNIVERSARY OF THE CREATION OF THE STATE

My dear Akwa Ibomites

My wife, Her Excellency, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel and I congratulate you all on the occasion of the 31st Anniversary of the birth of our State.  We should all be very proud of what God has done for us as a people in the past 31 years; the developmental strides we have witnessed, the rising profile of our State, the re-definition of our identity, from a people whose voices were not to be heard at the table of decision makers, even when decisions taken had profound effects on the lives and the fortune of our children. We should be proud and give praise ONLY TO GOD for taking us out of that valley of despondency to the mountain of hope and self-fulfilment. Let me salute all our past leaders for their contributions towards the re-writing of the Akwa Ibom story.

Fellow Akwa Ibomites, I am happy to announce that the state of our State is strong and on the right track. However, it is that happy and glittering Akwa Ibom story which we are all proud of today to tell, that today, is at the risk of being returned to the dark chapters we had worked hard and collectively shredded and rejected. It is that great story of a people who had been emancipated from internal slavery and cruel domination, from the naked and broad daylight stealing of our commonwealth and common blessings that today is at risk of repeating itself.

My dear compatriots, the future of Akwa Ibom State that has become a source of pride to us as a people and even to fellow Nigerians is in serious jeopardy. We are at an important point in our State’s history, a moment that recommends a Pan-Akwa Ibom  mind-set; where the Ibibios, the Annangs, the Oros and others  must stand up and celebrate our hard-fought  freedom and help  secure the future of our children. If we miss this moment, if we allow the raw desire of an individual to supersede the collective interest of our people, we will forever remain bound by the shackles of domination and slavery. May God never allow affliction to happen a second time!

Fellow Akwa Ibomites, we are confronted with two stark and distinct choices: the choice of living in a State that is peaceful, devoid of kidnappings, politically motivated assassinations and where the security of lives and property is assured or a return to the fearful years when death and insecurity walked on two legs; where people were afraid to visit or pursue their legitimate businesses for fear of being kidnapped or outrightly murdered. It is a chapter in our State’s history we wished had not been written!

We have a choice between our freedom, that of our children and the utilization of our God given resources to develop our State at our own pace while securing a prosperous future for our children or the choice of those who want  to sell our State on bended knees to the highest bidders just to secure their political future. The interest of one man cannot override our collective good. Akwa Ibom interest must supersede one person’s interest. Can we afford to sell our State to those who had once enslaved us, simply to satisfy the desire of an individual or a tiny percentage of those who permanently think they have an eternal sense of entitlement to power and our wealth? May God not allow affliction to happen a second time.

My fellow Akwa Ibomites, you have a choice of continuing on the path of steady growth of our State and our people, of a State that is fast industrialising and where our youths are gainfully  engaged and  have a reason to dream and dare or a return to the years when the  promise of industries in each of the 31 Local Governments  Areas were made with fanfare and not even a cottage industry was established; where monuments were built with great fanfare instead of Projects that have enduring benefits to our people. Remember, building monuments is not the same thing as building lasting and economically viable projects.

You have the choice of having a society where our youths are being developed and asked to dakkada and use the works of their hands to earn a living, or a return to the dark days where they were only seen as thugs to be used and dumped by their political paymasters. Akwa Ibom youths, is this what you deserve? I have heard people boast of using and dumping you justifying the reason for doing so, on the morally shocking reason that, “they were paid to do the job, and therefore, should expect nothing more,” Akwa Ibom youths, this is not about Udom Emmanuel, this about your future and you have a choice to embrace progress or embrace darkness?

My fellow Akwa Ibomites, we have a choice of educating our children and equipping them with the skills- set that would make them compete  with their compatriots like the students of Northern Annang Secondary Commercial School (NASCO) in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area  who recently won  academic laurels in Stockholm, Sweden, thus bringing glory to our State.  You have a choice to have a State where no child is left behind on the lane of education and where the quality of education received can compare to  those in private schools,  or the other choice which is to seek faults and engage in propaganda without  telling us what they have done.

We have a choice, my fellow brothers and sisters of continuing to enjoy the steady electricity made possible through our massive investment in power sector, or return to the dark days when every home had “I better pass my neighbour generator with the noise pollution that comes with it.

You have a choice to continue to enjoy our economically viable road network, where every part of this State is covered- parts such as Obot Akara in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, where  the Nto Edino-Azu-Ekwereazu Road has ended the reign of tears and pain the people  of the area had experienced, where children were drowning from makeshift canoes that took them to school daily, or parts of Mbo  or Ini Local Government Areas where for more than eight years, not a single kilometre of road was constructed, but today, these areas enjoy good roads.

When they lie to you my dear Akwa Ibomites about what we have achieved, you should ask them to show you what they have used the massive budget to do for Akwa Ibom people. Governance is not about lies and propaganda, governance is about character, integrity, transparency and doing the job of the people. Governance is not about giving people fraudulent contract papers for road construction. Akwa Ibom people deserve better, they deserve to be told the truth. The era of taking our people for granted, playing on their perceived gullibility is over. Our people deserve a fair deal from those who wish to lead them and not a raw deal. That is the choice you have my fellow Akwaibomites.

You have a choice to continue enjoying the investments we have made in health care delivery, equipping hospitals with modern amenities such as those of Etinan, Ikono, Ikot Okoro, Ituk Mbang, Iquita, in Oron, Immanuel Hospitals etc. or return to the years when the above named hospitals were overtaken and overgrown with weeds; where reptiles of all manner took up residence in place of patients. You have a choice of having these critical secondary healthcare facilities run optimally and where the lives of our people are saved or dwell in the world of propaganda.

The choice is there for us my dear Akwa Ibomites if we are to continue to support our women with interest free loans through which they have expanded their business of trading or the other choice where women are seen and regarded as expendable commodities. The people of Akwa Ibom State, especially our women should ask them what plans they have for them that is different from  what  my wife, Her Excellency, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel’s signature  Pet Project “Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Programme” (FEYReP), under whose instrument, the lives of our women have been touched profoundly.

As we go to the polls next year to elect our leaders both at the national and the state levels, Akwa Ibom people should ask themselves this simple question: are we not more united in 2018 than we were pre-2015? This is a critical point because every element of our development depends on a stable and peaceful State. The escalating exchange rate has affected all facets of our economic lives, yet the opposition here would embark on propaganda trying to speak ill of the achievements we have made for our people which are all there for everyone to see.

You should also my dear Akwa Ibomites, ask yourself this fundamental question: What is the perception of the Akwa Ibom person today in Nigeria? We are nationally known for our honesty and integrity. We are never known for being a people who speak from both sides of our mouth; if we gave our word on any given issue, we always kept our word. If we were a part of a group and certain decisions were made, we were not known to be the people who will go and betray confidentialities or agreements we had reached collectively for our selfish interest. But today, my dear Akwa Ibomites, certain individuals have made us look bad, untrustworthy, unreliable and one that would betray a group interest to further personal interest. We must tell the world that we are better than this negative perception; that we will not sell our conscience for a portion of porridge. We have to restore the integrity and moral fibre of our people and our sterling character. You have a choice to make this huge statement and reassure the world that the Akwa Ibom person is a man of honour and integrity.

My dear Akwa Ibomites, as we celebrate our 31st Birthday, I am happy to announce to you that our State is on the move, Akwa Ibom is rising, the fundamentals of our growth are strong, and we are laying a great and sustainable foundation for the economic prosperity of all Akwaibomites. We are not playing politics with development.  For over three years now, we have been engaged with the sole task of providing quality leadership with tangible results; we have devoted ourselves to moving Akwa Ibom State forward, challenging our people to dakkadaand claim that faith of greatness.  Mine, is not about applause or playing to the gallery. Mine is not about lying to you to score cheap political points; mine is not to go on the social media and indulge in propaganda, mine, is about ensuring development for our people that is both immediate and sustainable.

The choice we have as we celebrate our 31st anniversary is simple: Akwa Ibom State is moving forward, everything is moving in the right direction and train of progress is moving calmly, steadily and assuredly and in firm and capable hands. We are diversifying our economy and placing emphasis on agriculture. We are producing food to feed our people through our investments in agriculture.  When we came in 2015, two cups of our staple food, garri sold for 200 naira, but today, the same garri sells for 12 cups for the same 200 Naira. This is an achievement that touches directly on the lives of our people. When our people go to the market to buy 12 cups of garri for 200 Naira, the sellers   don’t discriminate between the PDP buyer or any other Political Party, we are all Akwa Ibomites. We should not lie to our people to score political points; we should celebrate achievements even if we don’t agree with the person bringing about the progress politically. Our rice mill in Ini which the opposition has been telling you lies about will soon flood our State with high quality but affordable rice, Akwa Hatchery is working and producing, the Cassava mills are in operation across the State. In the area of industrialization,  through our efforts at attracting Foreign Direct Investments and the conducive environment we have created, we have been able to attract industries to our State such as the Syringes Manufacturing Company, which today is producing syringes that are used all over this State and the nation. The other day, I received text messages from medical practitioners across the State commending my vision and wisdom in establishing the syringe manufacturing company and that hospitals and clinics in the State now use the syringes and they feel proud of the achievement. When I asked why they have not spoken out in support of this, as proud Akwa Ibom professionals, they told me “sorry Your Excellency, our party has told us to lie against all your achievements. That, unfortunately, my dear Akwa Ibomites is the state of the opposition, their overall strategy is to lie about our achievements to you, because they are shocked that we have achieved so much in three years and three months. All the metres that are being used in our State and mostly in the South-South are from our metering solutions company. The company cannot keep up with the orders, yet the opposition will tell you the metering solutions company is not working.  We are proud of what we are doing and will not pay attention to them, but you, my dear Akwa Ibomites know that they are lying because they are clueless about how modern economy works. From our huge improvements in education, to our passionate commitment to the welfare of our workers; the regular payment of salaries and pensions, to youths empowerment programmes, our State is Rising and our slogan should be forward ever backward never.

As we mark our 31 Anniversary, let us celebrate our common good over personal interest; let us know that Akwa Abasi Ibom State is like a shining city on the hill, inviting, attractive, and proud. Let us continue to water the seeds of its growth, and resist the attempts of a few individuals to re-write backwards the story of our growth and development.

I came here in 2015, with a governance philosophy based on my Five Point Agenda of: Job Creation, Poverty Alleviation, Wealth Creation, Economic and Political Inclusion and Infrastructural Consolidation and Expansion and in spite of the challenges we have faced on the economic horizon, I make bold  to say today, that we have made huge gains. We are determined to industrialize this State and we are right on the mark. I came to create opportunities for our people to be gainfully engaged and, on that; we are right on the money. I came here to change the mental and attitudinal disposition of our people, we are right on target.  I came here to improve the quality of education of our people, fully conscious of the fact that education is the only way out of poverty and ignorance, we are doing great in that area; I came here to move our State from over -dependence on oil and place emphasis on agriculture, we are doing just that. I came to give integrity and character in the art of governance, our State today is a beneficiary of that needed value, as evidenced in the investors that are trooping to our State.

I came to give our people a Christ-and-people centric Government, where there is an acute understanding of the principle of right and wrong, we have done just that. I came determined to ensure we enjoy peace and security, because that is the fundamental mission of any government the world over. Today, I have done just that. Our State is peaceful and secure. I have been your Servant-Leader, and will continue to be bound by a deep feeling of humility and the supremacy of the people over personal desires.

Our State is Rising and will continue to rise. Let us as Akwa Ibomites at home and in the Diaspora tell ourselves: Never again shall we fritter away the huge gains we have made in the last 31 years just to satisfy the ambition of one individual or a few group of persons. Akwa Ibom is our heritage and we will, and must guard this heritage jealously.

Happy birthday to us! God bless Akwa Abasi Ibom State, God bless Nigeria and God bless us all! Akwa Ibom Edakkeda,  Ami mme dakkanda!

Nigeria, Africa's Topmost Investment Destination - Umanah

By: Sixtus Tom

Despite the slow and economic activities of the last two years, Nigeria has been described as a preferred investment destination in Sub Saharan Africa.

The President of African Media Network (AMNETT), Mr. Aniekan Umanah, made this remarks at the just concluded All Africa Media Conference in Cape Town, South Africa where he insisted that Nigeria with a population of over 192 million people according to UN statistics and going by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its Q2 reports, Nigeria’s economy is finally staging a comeback with over 35 percent return on investment.

He commended the recently launched Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017-2020 of Nigerian Government which had the objective of bringing the economy out of recession and placing it on the path of sustainable and inclusive growth.

On a round table discussion on country’s economic outlook and planning data,  Mr Umanah said there are huge  investment opportunities in Nigeria, particularly in power/energy, agriculture, petroleum and allied products as well as transportation and solid minerals.

The President and Chief Programmes Officer of AMNETT, used the opportunity to extend invitation to foreign investors and organizations to take advantage of the investment opportunities and invest in Nigeria.

He also charged investors to maximise the untapped potentials particularly in the labour market and energy offered by the Nigerian youths, adding  that Nigerians are always receptive to new ideas, new neighbors and friends who means well for them and their resources.
