Thank you for this news post on Adeleye's arrest on the orders of the Unilag management. Permit me to shed more light on the 'rustication/suspension' of a student. In any letter of 'rustication/suspension' from any tertiary institution in Nigeria and the world over, the following would be stated explicitly in the letter: 1. that such student had seized to be a student of the institution; 2. that such student MUST vacate the premises of the institution; 3. that such student MUST not be seen in the university premise; 4. that such student MUST submit all university property(ies) in his/her custody to the university management; 5. the duration of such student's rustication/suspension from the institution. In the case of Adeyeye, the news post above has stated that he was 'trailed and arrested in front of the university gate'. I want to believe the front of the University Gate is part of the university premise. Thus to answer the question: 'what was he arrested for?' He was arrested for trespassing into the university premise, for as long as his rustication is still on, he is a 'persona non grata' on that campus. As comrades, we should be enlightened and vast in our knowledge of legal issues. Adeyeye would have NEVER been arrested if he was attending the purported meeting outside the campus of the university. |

NANS COMMEND GOVERNOR OLUSEGUN MIMIKO ON THE TAKEOFF OF THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, ILE-OLUJI The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) commends the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, for his unprecedented and unrivaled show of statesmanship for his selfless contribution to the successful takeoff of academic activities at the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State. The Governor has demonstrated attributes of a true and thorough-bred national politician and leader by donating the premises of the St. Patrick Mega Primary School, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, to the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, to enable the commencement of academic activities at the institution with immediate effect. The Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, established by the Federal Government during the last administration, has been unable to commence academic activities due to the non-release of fund/takeoff grant by the Federal Government. NANS is urging the Federal Government to release, with immediate effect, takeoff grant to the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji and other newly established institutions across the country to enable the takeoff of these institutions for smooth running. The noble act of the Ondo State Government has opened up avenues for adequate and quality educational opportunities for prospective Nigerians seeking admission into the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji. We urge other state governments, who have any newly established federal institution situated in their state, to emulate this gesture to enhance the delivery of quality education to Nigerian students. Finally, NANS is using this medium to charge the Ondo State Government to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis which has led to the closure of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa (OSUSTECH) to enable Nigerian students on that campus enjoy access to their academic activities. Lagos truck ban: NANS urges FRSC to restrict trailers’ movement on highways By Abiodun Badejo on September 8, 2015 The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, to emulate the Lagos State Government on its newly introduced policy on the restriction of trailers and long vehicles’ movement between 6am to 9pm. The students, who recently staged a protest along Ilesha-Akure expressway over the incessant killings of travelers, particularly students on the highways by the truck drivers, commended the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode for banning truck movement during the day time. NANS, in a statement issued and signed by its Vice President on National Affairs, Comrade Ayenuro Timilehin Gbenga lamented over the numbers of people the Truck drivers had allegedly killed due to their reckless driving. The statement read, “NANS commends the Lagos State Government for the enforcement of the Section 2 (i) and 2 (ii) of the Road Traffic Law 2012 which empowers the Lagos State Government to restrict trailers and articulated vehicles from plying the metropolis between 6am and 9pm to prevent accidents. “The unprecedented rate of ghastly accidents involving trailers and articulated vehicles, which had led to the untimely death of countless Nigerian students and youths in recent times had become untenable. “NANS will not fold its hand as productive Nigerian students and youths, who are capable of contributing immensely to the productivity of the Nigerian economy, are being crushed to their early and avoidable graves. “NANS is using this medium to task the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to toe the line of reason and emulate the Lagos State Government by banning trailers and articulated vehicles from plying major highways between 6am and 9pm. The recent killings of Nigerian students and youths, caused by heavy duty vehicles, are still fresh in our hearts. “NANS will not resist resorting to another nationwide protest to press home our sacrosanct demand: ‘the ban on trailers and articulated vehicles from plying major highways between 6am and 9pm nationwide." dailypost.ng/2015/09/08/lagos-truck-ban-nans-urges-frsc-to-restrict-trailers-movement-on-highways/ |
God bless the NANS VP (National Affairs), Comrade Ayenuro Timileyin Gbenga "SAFETY", for taking on the PMB's administration on the non-fulfilment of the APC, and in extension, PMB's "100-day" in office promises. In my opinion, the APC as a party, and the Presidency as an institution, should just come out clean and inform Nigerians that their 100-day promises can no longer be feasible because of the mirage of problems inherited from the last administration. That's a more logical excuse which I believe the public will buy hook, line and sinker! Denying such document is a calculated attempt to mislead the Nigerian people. But on the other hand, the PMB administration looks more than capable of delivering the dividends of democracy to the masses.. NANS, as a pressure group, should continue to partner with the government in ensuring these dividends of democracy become a reality. Either by issuing intellectually sound Press Text or by physically engaging the government, at all levels, on national issues for the uplift of all Nigerians. |
