Since January, the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has been running a recruitment exercise. But here we are, 9 months later, and the process is still hanging. No CBT test, no clear updates, and no conclusion in sight. For thousands of job seekers, it feels less like an opportunity and more like a waiting game.

*Recruitment or Just Formalities?*
Many Nigerians are beginning to believe that the FCSC recruitment is simply a show a public exercise to make it look like opportunities are open. In reality, it feels like most of the positions may have already been secured “through the back door.” The official process, then, becomes nothing more than a formality.

This is not a new fear. Over the years, public sector recruitment in Nigeria has often been criticized for lack of transparency. People spend months applying, waiting, and preparing, while insiders quietly walk into roles without going through the same struggles.

*The Mental Toll on Job Seekers*
When government agencies announce recruitment, it sparks hope. Young graduates, even underemployed people polish their CVs, prepare for tests, and start planning for a better future. But when the process drags on endlessly, that hope turns into anxiety.

Instead of progress, applicants are left in limbo. It feels like a cruel way of calming the rising tension of unemployment and underemployment in the country, offer hope today, then start an endless delay game, and never give clear answers.

For young people battling joblessness, this is more than just bureaucracy. It plays with their state of mind.

*What Needs to Change*
If the FCSC is serious about recruiting, then the process should be:

Publish clear timelines and stick to them.

Don’t keep applicants waiting for months without updates.

Ensure fairness so everyone has an equal chance, not just insiders.

Nigerians deserve more than half-baked promises. They deserve real opportunities backed by action.

The FCSC recruitment drive started with hope. But the longer it drags without results, the more it feels like just another government tactic to silence growing unemployment concerns. Until transparency is prioritized, young Nigerians will continue to see such exercises as a game of formalities — a game that tows with their time, energy, and mental health.

For recruitment that started process since January. Person wey get belle then will be getting ready for delivery by now. Everything is just wrong with the system

There is nothing like manipulation; this recruitment is purely on merit.

If you have been following the updates on the WhatsApp group platform; you will realize that, they just conclude the re-verification exercises. Which took place from 18th to 28th of August.

So there is no enough time to also continue the with the shortlisted applicants.

The re-verification exercises is to create more vacancies for the incoming successful employees and to also remove fake employees that were recruited between 2010 to 2023.

Let's be patient this September may be the month for another phase of the recruitment process.

The whole civil service uses the same salary structure, no matter the office or ministry you applied for. few places might have special allowances though.
