It's been an interesting weekend in wrestling. I could have bet the house that Drew MacIntyre was winning the championship.
Moving on to NXt, I knew Bron Breaker was gonna retain.
Mandy Rose still continues her reign of terror.

Over in AEW things are getting heated and it's not a work, CM Punk went scorched earth in his postmatch interview over his issues with Colt Cabana. It's been reported a scuff ensued between him and the elite afterwards.
Tony Khan needs to put his house in order

The recent news of NXT UK coming to a close is already a giveaway for the title vs title match.
Bates vs Bron will be a good match but we already know the winner, which will be Bron. The ladies triple threat match on the other hand is unpredictable.
I can't wait to see LDF on the main roster.
The story with Gacy and Cameron grimes continues to unfold. Reminds me of Bray white and Daniel Bryan feud.
I wonder which teams will compete for the tag team unification title bout. Briggs and Jensen still haven't sold me as repping the UK brand
pu7pl3:
WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

No Way Out
Bron Breakker is on his way out of NXT. Don’t quote me on that since but call it a hunch. Tyler Bate told Bron why he showed up at Heatwave: title unification. With NXT Europe becoming a thing and NXT UK going the way of the Dodo, Bates believes in one belt to rule them all. Bron, always itching for a fight, agreed. Therefore, it’s title for title at Worlds Collide.
Since I don’t foresee Bron defending that belt across Europe or repping the continent as great as someone like D’Lo Brown did, this might be the start of his ending on the paint splat brand. And you know what? I’m cool with that. Bron’s running in place as champion. Whatever that thing was with Joe Gacy showed there’s really nothing interesting for him to do as champ in the territory. Or at least WWE can’t find anything creative for him to do. There are a few cats on NXT ready for the main roster and if Bron isn’t at the top of that list, he’s definitely near the top.
This is a great time for it too, because the company as a whole is going through a lot of changes. The men on SmackDown and Raw need more competition because Reigns is running out of challengers, therefore making the main event scene a bit stale at the moment. Bron obviously brings a whole bunch of big booty uncle energy to the proceedings, along with a desire to punch any and everything that moves. It also transitions the entire NXT brand to its next phase, whatever that looks like. Plus, the segment set the tone for the rest of the night, as the show’s overarching story set the table for World’s Collide.
This is a lot of words to say I think this is a great move if it’s happening and in fact, I think it should happen. Bron moves on, Tyler moves up, and it clears the board everything creatively. This is Haitch getting up and hitting that reset button on the Super NES—or Sega Genesis—that is NXT. No blowing necessary.

Hard Core
The best moment in the Lights Out match between Tiffany Stratton and Wendy Choo was Wendy pouring lego blocks out of her pillowcase. After hitting Stratton with the loaded pillowcase, Choo showed us why Stratton hit the mat with a thud. the pain from stepping on a Lego is universal. Thumbtacks are one thing but very few of us can say we never stepped on a Lego or saw someone step on one. It’s a pain I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Making it even better, it was perfectly in character. Wendy is a big kid with a mean streak so it’s only right Lego is her weapon of choice. And it’s perfect storytelling inside of a match that delivered beyond anything I thought possible with the premise.
Stratton and Wendy quietly built one of NXT’s most compelling rivalries. They’re diametrically opposed forces and those differences turn their dislike for each other into straight up hatred. This Lights Out match is presumably the end of their beef and the best way to do it. Wendy showed a more serious side of her persona. She let everyone know what time it was when she ditched her onesie on her way to the ring. Subtle storytelling that says a lot! Tiffany used hair spray! There was a spot using Wendy’s bed! Tiffany even brought out the tennis racket!
The match just worked from start to finish. Saying anything more about it feels like a disservice to the match itself. Jus know that Wendy won—which shocked me—and this came after she survived several slams into the lego pit she created. The match was fun, violent, character-based, and came with a surprising ending. What more can you ask for?
Oh, and Tiffany? No cornrows ever again. Ever.

Extracurriculars
Ironman
Apollo Crews represented himself incredibly well this week. He guested on an episode of The Grayson Waller Effect and verbally jousted with Waller. Yes, he called him a low budget Miz, yes he repped for Nigeria regardless of his accent, and he thanked the NXT crowd. But the best moment was taking Waller’s most poignant barb and making it sound like a boss move. Waller asked Apollo what he tells his kids when he goes home and tells them he couldn’t cut it on Mondays of Fridays so now he works Tuesdays. Crews’ response was perfect: “I tell them daddy was a champion on Monday, a champion on Friday, and now he’s soon to be a champion on Tuesday.”
When he puts it like that, it sounds like the best thing ever. Right? And just like that I’m intrigued by a feud between these two.

Hard to Earn
Jiggs & Brensen can’t catch a break. Thankfully, no sex jokes this week, but they had their hands full with two teams from across the pond who want what they have. During their match with Gallus, Pretty Deadly attacked them. Before they even got to the match, Lash Legend got in Fallon Henley’s face! Those country boys got a lot of beef right now. Those championship belts are really just targets, and a bunch of people are practicing their shots.
Gallus has their own set of problems with Diamond Mine. The Mine showed up to repay Gallus in kind, then stood tall as the boys from the UK went running.
Okay match with logical action at the end of it. Although, really weird it took the ref that long to call for the bell once Pretty Deadly interfered. Dude...that’s a DQ.

Extinction Level Event
It looked like the story of Blair Davenport vs. Indi Hartwell was the latter taking another L. Seriously, the woman’s life is a roller coaster. Pray for her.
Anyway, the actual story is Blair Davenport, after winning, calling out the NXT Women’s champion. Out came Mandy to demand respect on her name. Before she got the next few words out of her mouth, Meiko Satomura walked to the ring, with her NXT UK championship in hand. Let’s just cut to the chase here: Mandy wants respect on her name so she wants to kill a legend. Meiko wants to further her legend, while Blair is the rightful number one contender. What’s that equal? A triple threat title unification match at World’s Collider.
All of it logical, all of it on point.

Ill Na Na
True love conquers all...except arrest warrants.
Remember that whole about Indi not catching a break thing? Guess who showed up to literally give his estranged wife a pick me up? Dexter Lumis! After her loss, Indi bore her soul on the mic in front of the crowd. She was a mess. She was beside herself. Then along came her favorite psycho. He carried her out of the ring and to the lobby of the building. Gave her a...goodbye note, walked out of the building, and surrendered to the keystone cops who told him to put his hands behind his head.
So that’s the official end of Index? And was Dexter arrested for kidnapping Miz on the most recent episode of Raw? Also...where is Miz?!
While it’s a kick in the gut for fans of romance and Indi, it’s great seeing these brands connected.

Roc La Famila
While I wasn’t a huge fan of the match between what’s left of Legado del Fantasma and the Dyad (it was okay), I popped for Santos Escobar showing up at the end. LdF walked out of the building dejected after losing their match and just being aimless. An SUV pulled up—that parking lot is always dangerous—and Santos Escobar was behind the wheel.
“You think I’d leave without you?”
So subtle and so good. LdF is out of NXT and finally ready for the main roster. I cannot wait to see Santos and crew on Mondays or Fridays.

Good Kid, M.A.A.D City
Tyler Bate looked great tonight. Von Wagner continues his role as a charisma and fun vacuum. The fact Bates got something decent out of Wagner is a testament to his skill. An okay way to build some momentum towards his fight with Bron, if only because Wager isn’t exactly the threat he thinks he is. And there’s no reason for the audience to believe in him on that level either.

Capital Punishment
We’re still doing this Joe Gacy and Cameron Grimes thing? Le sigh. Grimes defeated Javier Bernal with, you guessed it, The Schism perched up high. They’re just distracting at this point and I’m not interested.

The main event really boosted this show for me. It trended solid this week and then that happened. That, plus the set up for future matches that will legitimately change the fate of the territory? All part of a winning formula. NXT balanced introducing the audience to a lot of NXT UK talent they may not know while advancing their own storylines. Not an easy thing to do.

It's more a tale of two halves. The first 5 or 6 episodes were really good but it devolved in the later episodes. Moreso, that the titular character took a backseat for a less interesting female character with a mundane arc.
What was supposed to be a dark, gothic show quickly became a nickelodeon family story sprinkled with bright lbgt flavours on top

There’s nothing more natural and not at all contrived than having a bunch of big ass ladders set up in the ring with all the participants in the Money in the Bank ladder match sitting atop those ladders having a casual conversation. No one can give you a good reason why these dudes would agree to doing this, yet there they were, right at the start of Friday Night SmackDown this week, hanging out and shooting the breeze with each other.
They talked strategy — Seth Rollins thinks the right idea is to cash in at SummerSlam, because Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will be beat to hell after their Last Man Standing match. They talked retribution — Riddle really badly wants to get back at Reigns for what he did to his best friend, Randy Orton. They argued and bickered back and forth and eventually we got a few folks showing up to campaign for inclusion in the match — The Miz, Ezekiel, Happy Corbin, and Madcap Moss all made a pitch.
Adam Pearce showed up and decided, screw it, how about a battle royal?!?
Happy Corbin won that battle royal, laughed a lot, laughed at Pat McAfee, then refused to answer any questions related to the challenge McAfee laid down for a match at SummerSlam. That part was fun, because Pat Mac got to talk more trash about him, but it was also confusing because, uh, was he going to be in the Money in the Bank ladder match now? After all, he just beat everyone already in, and also the guys who wanted to get in.
That they didn’t bother making that clear is every reason WWE is so awful at telling even the most basic stories anymore. Nothing is ever clear. That and the fact that the go home angle to this big match was to have literally all of the guys in the match lose to a guy who may not even end up being in it.
Incredibly enough, the four guys who campaigned for the match earlier and partook in the battle royal, with three of them getting destroyed and one of them winning, were booked for a Fatal 4-Way that would decide who would be the seventh participant. I have no idea how this makes ANY sense at all, but it’s what they went with.
Guess who didn’t win?
You got it!
This was a horrible way to go about literally all of this.

All the Rest
I’m not sure if you’re aware but the Viking Raiders are NEW and VICIOUS. And to think, poor New Day were just there to gamble on dad jokes.

Natalya gave an interview backstage to push her match with Ronda Rousey and promised to become the first person to make her tap out. Not much to say about it.

We got a BATTLE OF THE BRANDS, with the Raw side of the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match taking on the SmackDown side. Considering how far they’ve leaned into just using everyone on both sides as needed, this held zero weight and acted much like the MOMENTUM BATTLE ROYAL at the start of the show on the men’s side. This was arguably better if only because Becky Lynch was on commentary and having an absolute blast messing with Michael Cole. The Raw side won, by the way. If that matters at all (it doesn’t).

Sonya Deville slapped the HELL out of Adam Pearce. My word, she’s racked up quite the compilation of slaps, hasn’t she? It’s not quite Stephanie McMahon level, but she’s absolutely rocked some folks during her time in WWE.

WWE used a reddit gimmick to promote the tag team title match, with The Usos and The Street Profits answering apparently fan submitted questions. There wasn’t much to it, outside of a weird tease that Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are having issues, something they denied vehemently, and then they stole each others catchphrases and said them really loudly in each other’s faces. There was no mention of a stipulation, which would seem to confirm that has been forgotten about.

Max Dupri finally debuted proper, introducing us to both Ma.çé, the artist formerly known as MACE, and Mån.sôör, the artist formerly known as Mansoor. They both walked the red carpet while Dupri talked them up. Pat McAfee was incredible putting them over as a big deal. I don’t know where this is going to go or how the hell it’s going to have any legs, but I’m moderately entertained by the whole presentation of it.

Ronda Rousey gave an interview not unlike Natalya and attacked her challenger’s math skills while promising she would be the one to force a tap. An awfully uninspired way to build to the match on the last show before said match, but there you go.

This was a bad show.

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

It’s good to remember what pro wrestling is, and where it came from, when considering Vince McMahon’s appearance on this show. There are plenty of folks speculating why it is exactly he showed up on Friday Night SmackDown this week, and what the ultimate goal of his appearance was. I’ve seen folks mention he was saying goodbye, I’ve seen others say he was thumbing his nose at the investigation into his conduct by the WWE Board of Directors, I’ve seen talk that he was just trying to make clear what he means to the company by getting the pop he knew he would.
Maybe one of those things are true, maybe not. It doesn’t really matter, though, because any or all of them would accomplish the same thing, the central goal at the root of everything they do at WWE.
This was done to capitalize on something that could get them better ratings. It’s as simple as that.
He didn’t say anything, because of course he didn’t. What could he say? Nothing! But that hardly mattered. All he needed to do was appear, so that they could promote him appearing, and the world would tune in to see what would happen.
That nothing did hardly matters.
It’s a carny business, folks.

Riddle’s promo early in the evening, and really his work in general over the past however many months, has worked wonders for Randy Orton. Not that Orton needed the help or anything but I’ll be damned if this isn’t getting Randy (I can’t say that name without thinking of Riddle and how he says it anymore, damn him) over like crazy.
All because Riddle loves and misses his friend.
Truly heartwarming stuff.
Later, he had his match with Roman Reigns, where he challenged for the WWE Universal championship under the condition he would never get another crack at it as long as Roman is champ if he loses and, of course, he lost. We knew he would lose, that much was never really in doubt, but I found it meaningful that Reigns gave him so much throughout the course of it. Riddle was never treated like he was underneath Reigns — he was treated like an equal.
He may have lost the match, but in the end this was a victory for Riddle when considering the long term.
Now to get to the other big thing that happened on this show — the return of Brock Lesnar.
I love me some Brock Lesnar.
Even all this time later, even after seeing all those matches that don’t vary all that much in terms of content but captivate me nonetheless, I’m still all in anytime I see him on my screen. I can at least understand why so many others wouldn’t be, and I can absolutely sympathize with anyone who dislikes the idea of WWE going back to the well and doing yet another Reigns vs. Lesnar match.
I just don’t reside on that side of the fence. I love when these two fight each other, and I genuinely wouldn’t mind seeing them fight forever. Two big beefy dudes just battling it out over the top title in the land is what this whole damn thing is supposed to be about.
I’m ready for more.
Also, just think: we might get more of Lesnar and Zayn together again!
Yes, please!

All the Rest
Madcap Moss got the “last laugh” on Happy Corbin by defeating him in their latest singles match. It was a dominant win, a clear and definitive victory that finally ends the feud between the two. Moss went 3-0 against Corbin. After, he grabbed a microphone and laughed at Happy. After a commercial break, Corbin still hadn’t left and decided he wanted to get in Pat McAfee’s face about all the trash he’s been talking. Remember the “Bum Ass Corbin” stuff? He threatened Pat Mac, who responded by grabbing the microphone and leading the entire arena in laughing Corbin to the back. “Hahahahahaha you suck,” McAfee shouted. It was a great time. Even The New Day came out and laughed at him as they walked by! It was fantastic. I wouldn’t hate if this was leading to McAfee vs. Corbin at SummerSlam.

Skyscrapin’ Shanky and Jinder Mahal were having their way in a match against The New Day when Xavier Woods got creative and broke out the trombone. Shanky couldn’t help but break into dance, and it cost them the match. Goofy but fun.

Both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre were added to the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match in a funny segment. Adam Pearce said he reviewed the footage and announced Sheamus was in. So he talked trash, McIntyre beat him up, and then Pearce, who was trying to separate them, stopped it by saying he was going to announce McIntyre is in too. Should be fun!

Raquel Rodriguez beat Shayna Baszler to qualify for the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. There wasn’t much to the match, and what we’ve seen of Rodriguez on the main roster so far doesn’t seem terribly interesting, but here’s to hoping things improve.

Max Dupri was supposed to debut his clients on this show, but refused because Pearce didn’t give him the exact lighting he wanted. The artist formerly known as LA Knight is somehow making this damn thing work through these backstage segments with Pearce where he invades the ever loving hell out of his personal space. It’s delightfully dumb.

I liked what they did on this show where some folks appeared but only in the form of a quick interview or promo backstage. We don’t need everyone on TV every week — a simple promo in the back does just fine. In this case, Natalya put over the Sharpshooter as superior to Ronda Rousey’s armbar and Ludwig Kaiser claimed GUNTHER will be Intercontinental champion forever. Simple but effective promotion.

I enjoyed the show, especially everything in the main event.

Not everyone can become world champion however, most folks remember hurricane for that feud as it out him into limelight.

Scott Hall aka Razor Ramon never won the world championship, Rowdy piper and Dustin Rhodes didn't either yet they are more memorable than someone like Jinder Mahal who did.

The rock lost to hurricane by interference and it advanced the story for rock vs stone cold while also making a moment for the hurricane.

Despite dropping the hurricane gimmick later on for a more serious one.
Gregory helms went on to having arguably the longest cruiserweight run.
Yet, everyone still remembers the hurricane gimmick for than the cruiserweight championship run.

Wrestling is about give and take, someone made you hence you do same for another.
By your logic, the rock, stone cold and other guys that came up during the attitude era would not become the stars if main guys like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels not put them over.
There was no bigger primadonna during the attitude era like Shawn Michaels yet even he put over stonecold at WrestleMania.
Hulk Hogan put over a young Brock Lesnar.
Triple H was made after defeating Cactus jack in a hell in a cell match.
Would Kazuchika Okada become the ace of njpw if Hiroshi Tanashashi not put him over?

Would Eddie Guerrero win as champion be momentful had Brock Lesnar not put him over?
Why didn't Brock make excuses and say Eddie is too small to pin him?
Chris Jericho greatest moment was winning stone cold and the rock for two championships the same night.

There's a story with Becky Lynch fighting for the 24/7 championship that you aren't seeing?
She is desperate to become a champion so bad that she would contend for even the lowest one.
Her contending for it and losing it by interference also furthers the asuka feud.
Her loss to Dana Brooke is a small bump in the road that doesn't dimisnish her star power.
Becky Lynch is already made and nothing can change that.

ValeeLove:
and Hurricane ended up becoming a World Champ. It might be good for a comedy movie, but it doesn't belong in professional wrestling is all I'm saying.
I dislike the idea of coming down to 'put guys over' and I'll explain that if you want me to. But one of the reason is because it reduces your status as a wrestler(whether you like it or not). If you want me to shed more light on that, I'll gladly do it.
Becky just soiled her hands for an irredeemable championship. I'm still yet to watch it though, so I'll reserve my comments.

The same Jim cornette that was fired in OVW wrestling for slapping santino because he refused to sell being scared of the Boogeyman. Jim Cornette was also fired in TNA, fired in NWA powerrr.
Even your mecca of wrestling njpw wouldn't touch him with a stick anymore.
The point at the end of the day is wrestling is a niche. No matter how hard you try to paint it as real or sportslike.
ValeeLove:
I dare anyone here to search "Jim Cornette" on YouTube and hear his reviews of wrestling weekly programs like RAW and Dynamite and I'm pretty sure you guys are going to be seeing wrestling differently henceforth. He has been in the business since the 70s, managed tag team legends like The Midnight Express, he's Paul Heyman's colleague and mate and even though we have little differences in opinion he's light years more sensible than modern wrestling logic. Take a listen, you'll get it.
And those things you mentioned were actually one of the lowest points of their individual careers.
