Awarded annually to male athletes from around the world, the Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year honours an individual’s accomplishments in the sport.


Paris Saint-Germain forwards Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi have been nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award.

Leo Messi is the only footballer to have won the award in its 2020 edition alongside Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton

Messi and Mbappe have been impressive for both club and country over the last year and this season.

Messi – World Cup, CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, Trophée des Champions

Mbappe – World Cup runner-up, Ligue 1, Trophée des Champions

Stephen Curry – NBA Championship

Max Verstappen – F1 Drivers Championship

Rafael Nadal – Australian Open, French Open champion, won 22 Grand Slams.

Armand Duplantis – Sweden Athletics World Championships pole vault champion, broke the world record.
