New Aston Villa signing John Terry admits that he intends to return to Chelsea as manager in future.

The 36-year-old completed a move to Villa Park on a free transfer on Monday after leaving Premier League champions Chelsea at the end of his contract.

Villa boss Steve Bruce said that he helped to convince Terry to join the Championship club after offering to help him in the early stages of his plans to earn his coaching badges.

Although the former England captain has signed a one-year contract solely as a player, he has conceded that his long-term ambitions include taking over in the Chelsea dugout.

“That’s a goal. Me and Lamps [Frank Lampard] have had those conversations,” said Terry.

“Do you dream too big? I don’t think you can ever dream too big. I’ve always wanted to be the very best and if that’s in management then Chelsea’s the one.

“That would be incredible but I realise as well you can’t go in somewhere like Chelsea as your first job. You need to go and learn, whether that’s in the academy like Stevie [Liverpool Under-18s boss Steven Gerrard] is doing.

“It’s difficult to get jobs. I see a lot of players from my generation not walking into jobs that maybe I thought they would get. So I think you need to go out and do your work and put your minutes in on the pitch and make your mistakes that no one sees so that when you do go in, you’re kind of ready.”

Fourth seed Egyptian Farah Abdel-Aziz has revealed she was lucky to have beaten Nigeria’s Offiong Edem whom she referred to as a ‘legend’ of the game in Africa.

An excited Farah Abdel-Aziz said she found it difficult returning the services of the former Africa champions but she pulled through after making up her mind to attempt the services of the veteran she tried avoiding in the early knockout stages.

“After playing well in the group to qualify for the quarterfinal and I found out that I will be meeting her, I was just praying for luck.

“So the win was so surprising to me because I could not return her service in the first game because it looked so complicated. She was leading 10-8 in the first game and I caught up with her only to lose two points easily for the match to end at 12-10.

“In the second game, i just made up my mind to ensure that I return the service very well by putting the ball on the table and this really worked out for me. We had met thrice in the past and she defeated me easily.

“Beating her means a lot to me because she is a legend of the game and she is part of the table tennis history in Africa because of her records.

“I will cherish this victory for a very long time.”

Nigeria’s Olufunke Oshonaike has taken a step closer to representing Africa at the Women’s World Cup to be staged in Markham, Toronto, later this year.

The veteran Table Tennis player defeated her opponent Katia Kessaci from Algeria (11-6, 11-5, 11-3, 11- on Sunday to advance to the last four of the 2017 ITTF-Africa Cup ongoing in Agadir, Morocco.

The other Nigeria’s representative at the ongoing event, Offiong Edem the 2011 African Games Champion suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Egyptian 4th seeded Farah Abdel-Aziz.

Offiong Edem who has never lost in a game to the Egyptian took the first game by winning 12-10 before losing the remaining games 8-11, 5-11, 8-11, 2-11 to record a 4-1 loss on Sunday.

Olufunke Oshonaike will now play Egypt’s Yousra Helmy in the semi-final, while Offiong Edem conqueror Farah Abdel-Aziz will play the defending champion Dina Meshref in the other semifinal.

Juan Carlos Osorio believes Saturday’s Confederations Cup clash with Russia in Kazan provides his Mexico side with the perfect chance to silence their critics.

Osorio’s men have come under fire back home for scraping a late point against Portugal in their opener and then having to come from behind to see off a plucky New Zealand side 2-1 on Wednesday night.

A clash with the tournament hosts – who need a win to go through to the semi-finals – looks tricky on paper but Osorio thinks it is the perfect game for his players to prove their mental fortitude by claiming the point they need to advance.

The Colombian said: “We’re human beings so there are certain situations in which we are more affected by words than others.

“Everybody has their own opinion so we just accept what people say and we try to learn from positive criticism and the others, we just accept them.

“One of the best things about this beautiful game is everybody understands football but games are something completely different.

“In terms of the Russia game, I honestly think it’s a perfect scenario for Mexican football. We are playing away from home against the host nation with a lot of support from their fans and who are fighting to qualify

“We need to control the game and show to ourselves that we can compete under such difficult circumstances, take a step forward and keep growing as a team so we are capable of playing against any team and any style.”

Veteran winger Andres Guardado was less diplomatic when against about the critics, adding: “The players are not affected by such comments.

“Some of us have been playing for the national team for a long time, it’s always like this.

“We just concentrate on what we have to do, try to win and get through to the next round.

Fiorentina midfielder Matias Vecino has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Last season, Spurs recorded their best-ever effort in the Premier League with the North London outfit registering 86 points from their 38 fixtures.

However, head coach Mauricio Pochettino is keen to make experienced additions during the transfer window and it appears that he has identified a player to compete in the middle of the park.

According to Tutto Mercato, Spurs have made contact with Fiorentina over Vecino ahead of a possible bid later in the summer.

The 25-year-old has been contracted to Viola since 2013 and after loan spells with both Cagliari and Empoli, he has now established himself as a first-team regular.

During the most recent campaign, Vecino – who was won 13 caps for Uruguay – made 40 appearances in all competitions.
