Politics › Re: Sad Pictures Of The Day. (Viewers Discretion) by samstandard: 1:41pm On May 28 |
Odewaleadesoye: Today is Children’s Day but many Nigerian children are not celebrating. They are living in fear instead of joy.
Insecurity is getting worse. Kidnapping is now common. People cannot even travel short distances without fear. Every journey feels like a risk. Every phone call at night brings fear.
Families are not at peace. Parents are worried every time their children leave home. Students are afraid. Workers are afraid. Farmers are afraid. Nobody feels safe anymore.
Life is becoming very hard. Food is expensive. Survival is difficult. And yet the fear of insecurity sits on top of everything like a heavy weight.
Government at all levels should focus more on protecting lives and property. Not politics. Not 2027. People are suffering now.
Please and please, help free these children and their teachers.
No child deserves this. No Nigerian deserves this.
We need safety again. We need peace again. I am just wondering. If the DSS can pick anyone they believe constitute a threat to the nation if they made a tweet, why can't they get these guys? |
Pets › Re: The Consequences Of " Beware Of Dogs " Sign On Your Gate... by samstandard: 3:43pm On May 16 |
giftson102: *If your Dog bites somebody today, can you escape liability simply because you wrote “BEWARE OF DOG” on your gate?*
A lot of people think the answer is YES.
The law says otherwise.
That warning sign alone may not save you from being sued or even facing criminal liability. In fact, sometimes that same sign can become evidence AGAINST you.
Why?
Because it may prove that you already knew the dog was d@ngerous.
Many people misunderstand the law. They think once they hang: “⚠️ BEWARE OF DOG” on their gate, every injury automatically becomes the victim’s problem. No.
Under the law, once you decide to keep a dog especially an aggressive or d@ngerous one you have a duty to control it.
Not advice. Not suggestion. Duty.
So if your dog escapes through a faulty gate or roams freely outside Or attacks a delivery rider… A neighbour… A visitor… A NEPA official… Or even somebody you invited into your compound… That signboard may do absolutely nothing for you. You may still be sued.
And yes, the victim can demand compensation for: 🥢 Medical bills 🥢 Pain and suffering 🥢 Permanent injuries 🥢 Emotional trauma 🥢 Loss of income And it can become VERY expensive.
The shocking part?
Section 207 of the Criminal Code makes it an offence to negligently allow a dangerous anim@l to cause h@rm.
Meaning this is not always “just a dog issue.” It can quickly become a legal pr0blem.
Now before somebody says: “What if the person was a th!ef?” That changes things.
If someone jumps your fence at 2am trying to ste@l and gets bitten, the law may treat that situation differently because the person was trespassing unlawfully.
But for lawful visitors?
The law expects responsibility from the dog owner and this is where many people make a costly mistake. They rely on bold capital letters instead of proper control.
A warning sign is NOT a magic shield. The real protection is: 🥢 A secured gate 🥢 Proper restraint 🥢 Proper training 🥢 Responsible handling
Because when the lawsuit starts, “BUT I WROTE BEWARE OF DOG” may not be enough.
The law does not bark but financially? It can bite harder than the dog itself.
Now imagine this If your dog bites a child who innocently entered your compound to return a ball should the owner still be held responsible? I saw a sign post around the fence of a house -Beware of Snakes - and I have noticed that people move away from the fence of that house when passing I wonder if it's a real snake sef |

Literature › Re: Short Story: That Was The Last Thing Any Of Us Ever Saw by samstandard: 12:24pm On May 14 |
tonystark007: It was today! Everyone called it the biggest crusade the community have ever seen.
My cousins, my uncle, his wife & my baby brother, watched silently as I wore my “Christian clothes” & prepared for revenge against the infidels
But I was confused. Christians didn’t unalive my parents. Terr0rists did.
My name is Amira, I’m 15.
5 years ago, terrorists wiped out my village in Borno. My parents hid my little brother & I inside a dry well while they were brutally murdered outside.
I watched everything.
Watched them beat my father badly, and tied him up, while they violated my mother one by one before finally cvtting off her head.
Then they cvt off his legs, set him on fir3 & laughed as he bvrned to d3ath
I pressed my brother tightly to my chest, covering his eyes and blocking his ears from my father’s screams.
After that night, survivors brought us to Lagos, where my uncle Bashiru and his wife raised us. Slowly, I learned to smile again.
Until Kabiru arrived and everything changed.
One morning, I caught him staring at me strangely, and goosebumps covered my body. I never liked him, so I warned my brother, now 10, to stay away from him but he never listened.
They were always together & Kabiru kept taking him to the mosque & teaching him to pray.
I began to feel my uncle and aunt were afraid of him because before then, going to the mosque had always been optional. Nobody forced religion on us, and I only prayed when I wanted to. They were Muslims mostly in name.
But suddenly, everything changed. I had to cover my head with a hijab, wear Muslim clothes, and pray constantly.
Then one night, after speaking privately with my uncle and aunt, Kabiru told me it was finally time to avenge my parents.
I was happy… For five years, I had dreamed about revenge. Maybe Kabiru wasn’t so bad after all if he cared enough about my parents to want justice for them.
But my aunt was crying, and my uncle refused to look me in the eye. I was confused. Wasn’t he happy that his brother would finally be avenged?
Until he explained how.
There would be a crusade in one week. I was to wear a b0mb vest, disguise myself as a Christian, and detonate it during the altar call. Sending as many infidels to he|| as possible
“Wait… what?” I looked at my uncle and aunt but they looked away
Then, he said, I would wake up in heaven as a virgin, married to a warrior & prince, while my parents would be honored because of my sacrifice.
“I don’t understand. U want me to ki|| myself & innocent people? But they didn’t do anything to—”
The slap that followed nearly blinded me. He was shouting but I couldn’t hear. My ear was ringing badly. Gradually, his words became clearer.
He said Lagos has spoiled me & he wished I had di3d with my parents in Borno cos I had become a disgrace and was no longer a true Muslim.
I stood up crying & said no. I told him I’d never become a svicide b0mb3r or unalive innocent people cos I’m not a monster.
He laughed…
Next thing, he started b3ating me. He kick3d me repeatedly until I could barely stand, then dragged me into my room & violated me the same way my mother was violated 5 years ago.
The next morning, he returned with six others whom he called my cousins. One wore a mask.
One after another, they violated me.
When the sixth man was on top of me, as he was vibrating and shaking, his mask slipped off, and I saw his face.
It was uncle Bashiru!
I refused to cry. My silence became my only weapon. My only act of defiance.
So I stared directly into his eyes the same way my mother had stared at those terrorists years ago and said nothing.
Afterward, Kabiru warned me: “If you refuse again, your little brother will take your place.”
That was when I remembered the last thing my parents ever told me:
“Protect your brother, Amira.”
So I whispered: “Okay. I’ll do it.”
He smiled. One by one, they left.
Uncle Bashiru never spoke to me again after that night. Neither did my aunt. She only brought food and water to my room while avoiding my eyes in shame and guilt.
That’s how I knew she knew exactly what her husband had done.
And now, it was today.
Kabiru was showing me how to activate the b0mb. The vest was already strapped tightly to my body. One of the same cousins who had violated me was the one who fastened it.
The others sat around smiling casually, making jokes and small talk. They told me not to worry because my virginity would be restored once I reached heaven. They said my parents and my new husband would be proud of me.
Uncle Bashiru and his wife just watched silently.
Kabiru explained that I should wait until what the infidels called the altar call or testimony session was happening.
Then I would walk forward as if I wanted to give my life to Isa or share a testimony. At that moment, I was to shout, “Allahu Akbar,” and activate the vest.
Then they asked if I had any last wish.
Quietly, I nodded and asked to see my brother.
He walked in slowly. His eyes were swollen, and I knew he had been crying.
I hugged him tightly and asked him to do one last favor for me.
He nodded.
So I told him to go buy shawarma and Cold Stone ice cream for us so we could eat together. One final supper.
He smiled immediately. Those were his favorite things. Mine too.
Uncle Bashiru handed him money, and he rode off on his bike.
The moment I heard the gate close, I looked around the room again.
I no longer saw family. Only monsters. No different than the terr0rists who destroyed my village and unalived my parents.
I checked the time. Ten minutes had passed since my brother left.
“Amira,” Kabiru called, “do not fail us. You know what will happen if you do.”
They were all staring at me, waiting for a response.
I looked at every single one of them and smiled back.
Then I shouted:
“Allahu Akbar!”
The fear on their faces…the shock!
The satisfaction…
That was the last thing any of us ever saw as I detonated the b0mb.
The End

I read this as well as the comment of other persons. They have all advised to the best of their ability. But there's something I noticed. You said you started this escapade when you were a teenager. That's the challenge there. It's a pattern, a stronghold or you can call it an habit.
And since it's an emotional habit, you need another emotional habit to counter or take it's place. Whenever you try to stop, you create a gap in that emotion, and it needs filling. Without finding another habit to fill it's place, there's a tendency that you may likely go back. |
Politics › Price Of Rice From 2015 - 2025 by samstandard(op): 6:53am On Dec 21, 2025 |
In Nigeria, the price of rice has always followed an upward trend — especially during the Christmas season.
Every year, as demand increases during the festive period, the price of a bag of rice rises sharply. What many Nigerians see each December is not sudden; it’s part of a long-standing pattern driven by high demand, inflation, transport costs, and policy shifts. Here’s a simple breakdown of how the price of a 50kg bag of rice has increased over the years: 2015 — ~₦10,000 2016 — ~₦13,000 2017 — ~₦16,000 2018 — ~₦18,500 2019 — ~₦19,500 2020 — ~₦26,000 2021 — ~₦30,000 2022 — ~₦35,000 2023 — ~₦50,000 2024 — ~₦85,000–₦120,000 2025 — ~₦60,000– 80,000
But a closer look at the price trend shows that in this year (2025), the price went down.
This hasn't happened in a long long time.
Is this Tinubu effect or what? |

dederocs: Since the beginning of time, there have been world powers, though a bit softer now, world powers always interfere in other nation's affairs, and US is the world power now. I understand the dynamics of world power in shaping international politics which is most times fuelled by the possession of nuclear arsenal and economic might. However, let's look beyond the superficial. I know that are killings going on in the north in a jaw dropping level, but y now, I mean, y will the US threaten a military invasion in Nigeria? Are there other industrial military complex that we are blind to? Bcus if we are talking about persecution, you need to see what's going on in some tier one countries where Christians are been arrested while preaching on the street with the excuse that's it noise pollution or whatever. I am nit in denial about the killings of Christians and non Christians in Northern Nigeria, but will evasion savage the issue? Will that lead to a long time peace Let's the critical in our thinking and see beyond the smokescreen |

I've never been this stressed in my life and I'm someone who's usually able to handle a lot of stress, I just feel like I need time alone from everything and everyone, no calls, no text. Nothing.
And my wife even makes it worse with threats of leaving the marriage over any small issue. I think the biggest mistake of my life is getting married and I know a lot go men go through this to but they can't talk.
And that's why a lot of men die young these days. Pls, point of correction, it's not the institutions (marriage) that has the problem. From what you have explained, I think the issue is from your expectations about marriage and the person you got married to. What you need is not to run. What you need now is KNOWLEDGE |

Foreign Affairs › USA ELECTION 2024: 6 Unconventional Realities by samstandard(op): 12:16pm On Nov 06, 2024 |
The 2024 U.S. election revealed some surprising, offbeat insights that shake up the usual takeaways and hint at what’s brewing in America’s political undercurrent. Here are a few:
1. The Meme is Mightier than the Speech: Forget polished TV ads. This year, memes, GIFs, and TikToks were like modern-day campaign rallies. Candidates who didn’t master the art of digital shorthand struggled. People are increasingly swayed by snappy, shareable content over traditional speeches or debates, showing how meme culture is reshaping political influence.
2. Gen Z Brought Receipts, Not Just Votes: Young voters did more than just cast ballots—they held candidates accountable. This generation, raised with the internet, fact-checked politicians in real time, often calling out inconsistencies in live comments or threads. It was less about “trusting” a candidate and more about verifying each claim like an unpaid intern for the FBI.
3. Micro-Influencers are the New Political Pundits: Forget talking heads on cable news. The 2024 election saw small-scale social media influencers sway the vote more than major news networks. People want information from voices they "know" and "trust" over any large, faceless media outlet. The power of these niche personalities to shape opinions is now undeniable.
4. Climate Change as a "Survival" Vote: Climate change wasn’t a “policy” issue; it became a visceral survival choice for many voters, as extreme weather events became real and unavoidable. Young voters especially treated climate as a deal-breaker, signaling that environmental issues are morphing into core determinants of political allegiance.
5. Less Party, More Persona: Voters are starting to care less about party loyalty and more about the vibe or authenticity of the candidate. In 2024, people voted for those who seemed "real" to them, regardless of the party lines. Personality and relatability edged out polished platforms in a noticeable way.
6. Decentralized Power Surge: Many overlooked down-ballot races, like school board and city council seats, but they held massive influence. Local elections became battlegrounds for national debates, from education policy to public health measures. In a way, the election reemphasized that change often begins at the local level, and voters responded.
This election offered a lens into a country craving more authenticity, relatability, and immediacy in politics, signaling a shift that could make 2024 a model for future campaigns worldwide. |
