2017 SOLAR SYSTEM TRAINING AND MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

This training is designed for people who wish to engage in the solar business and entrepreneurs who want to develop technical knowledge. This gateway comes with opportunity to learn best practices and ideas relating to design, planning, procurement and execution of inverter and solar systems (residential, street-lighting, boreholes and customized solar solutions). Holding on the 2nd-4th August, 2017 at De Milton Hotel & Suites, off Aka Etinan Road, Uyo. Time: 11.00Am.

This year, we are gathering prospective candidates all over the state for 3days to be trained in our facility and as a follow up to building a stronger generation of solar energy installers, each participant will automatically be enrolled in our extended Solar Mentorship program that guarantees all consultations and installations are carried out in a responsible and professional way. This network also opens up participant to information update about products and services from companies and representatives.

At GALinverter, clean water is an irreplaceable resource of our day to day living. Depending on location and accessibility, there are numerous challenges encountered in delivering it to the point of use. In rural areas and most arid and semi arid areas, boreholes and wells are an important source of water in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State in particular. The average depth of a well is around 30m while that of a borehole is about 40m.

There are many traditional/conventional methods of getting water from wells with the most popular being a bucket tied to the end of a rope and a pulley mechanism at the top of the well to lower and raise the bucket. This method although effective is limited in terms of productivity the major reason being slow pace of work. To effectively harness water from a well, modern methods that involve using submersible pumps are available. For areas with access to the electricity grid, these pumps can be connected to the same. However, if there is no possibility to use grid power alternative sources such as solar, wind or a combination of both (hybrid) can be employed. Additionally, if the recurrent expenditure of running such a pump from grid power cannot be sustained, the best option would be to use renewable energy sources. These energy sources require no maintenance and with the right infrastructure will ensure water availability on demand.

Boreholes offer better prospects of higher water yields compared to wells. They have become increasingly popular as a solution for water needs in equal measure in urban, peri-urban as well as rural areas. It is possible to get in excess of 10m3 of water on a daily basis. This level of production makes commercial activities such as irrigation, metered distribution among others viable. As with well pumps, it is possible to use either grid or renewable energy power to operate the submersible pumps used. However, due to the extra depth achieved in boreholes considerably more power is needed. If renewable energy sources especially solar panels are used, a tracking system can be incorporated to increase power availability throughout the day. This will consequently increase water production by 15-20%.

In both cases, i.e. boreholes and wells the ideal thing is to have a reservoir into which water is stored. This ensures availability of water at night or when there is no wind or solar power production to run the pump.

We have a reliable range of submersible pumps and accessories from leading manufactures in the world to suit either of the two categories.
Our solar water schemes are proven and tested around the south south region of Nigeria and we are consistent with a methodology of utilising minimal sunshine to pump water at prime hours thus ensuring supply even at very early hour at late evening.

TIPS ON MAINTENANCE OF YOUR SOLAR POWER SYSTEM

Your solar power saving system is working very hard for you, and quietly generating your electricity. we want to remind you that it needs a little attention from time to time. When we install a solar power system for you, you will receive a dossier we call a Solar PV User Guide and manual. Within this Guide we include a maintenance schedule. We know that you are very busy so this is a reminder to have a look at this guide for our suggestions on maintenance of your system.

REGULAR CHECKS OF YOUR SOLAR POWER SYSTEM
In Nigeria, 90% of Panels on our roof are at times exposed to harsh weather conditions. They are built to be tough and very reliable. Panels are marginally less effective in receiving light photons when they are dirty and dusty, however a good rain will mostly fix that for you. If there is anything growing on your panels over a long period of time like fungus or moss they will need a wash.
Make sure that there are no trees leaning over your panels and shading the light they might otherwise receive from the sun especially at peak sun hours.
It is good practice to check your inverter once a week, make a habit of having a look on the way in and out of the house. Check that the lights are working correctly.

GET TO KNOW YOUR INVERTER
When you walk pass press the escape or OK button to bring up the production screen. If anything seems strange like no production during the day or very little, make sure you check again tomorrow. If you get to know your system you are more likely to question or improve how you use your system. As mentioned in another blog here there are ways to get the best return out of your investment.

SCHEDULE A MAINTENANCE INSPECTION WITH GALinverter.
