A top Ukrainian lawmaker says Russian forces have entered the steel plant, but that the government is back in contact with defenders there. Meanwhile, the EU is proposing a ban on Russian oil.Russian forces have entered Mariupol's Azovstal steel plant, Ukraine's ruling parliamentary faction head, David Arakhamia said.
"Russian troops are already on the territory of Azovstal," Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty quoted Arakhamia as saying.
However, he added that the government had contact with the last group of Ukrainian defenders at the plant.
Separately Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba also said the last pocket of Ukrainian fighters in Mariupol was still holed up at the sprawling complex.
City authorities said around 200 civilians and more than 30 children were also still trapped there.
Earlier Mariupol's mayor, Vadym Boichenko, said said contact with the Ukrainian fighters had been lost amid heavy fighting at the plant. https://www.dw.com/en/ukraine-contact-restored-with-azovstal-defenders-amid-heavy-fighting-live-updates/a-61679002 |

Foreign Affairs › Putin Did Not Even Warn The Russian Federation And The State Duma About The War by sapientia(op): 7:17pm On May 04, 2022 |
OLENA ROSHCHINA - WEDNESDAY, 4 MAY 2022, Most employees of the Russian government, the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation and State Duma MPs did not know about Vladimir Putin's plans to start a war against Ukraine; high-ranking officials did not have a plan of action for this scenario. Media site "Proekt" Quote: "Most government and Kremlin officials knew nothing about the President's plans to start fully-fledged military operations, and even high-ranking officials did not have time to draw up an action plan - for example, for the economy or propaganda. In addition, many were shocked by the very idea of a war with a neighbouring state.
It was then that one of the high-ranking interlocutors of the "Proekt" in the cabinet of ministers, when asked what he thought about the war, could only squeeze out: "F**k." Those State Duma MPs who, at the beginning of the year, on the instructions of the leadership, signed an appeal to Putin with a request to recognise the independence of the [Luhansk People's Republic] LPR and [Donetsk People's Republic] DPR, felt especially stupid, not having realized that this would be a precursor to war.
An acquaintance of one of the parliamentarians recalls: on 24 February, the deputy called him almost in tears: he was very worried because his signature on the appeal was used to start hostilities."
According to "Proekt", those who were dissatisfied were later "addressed." A few days later, the aforementioned deputy "in the spirit of the Kremlin manuals" spoke of the need to unite in the face of Western sanctions. After a couple of weeks of the war, a roughly similar thing happened with the high-ranking official who had previously described what was happening with a short obscene word. Now he calls everything that was happening a "window of opportunity" for Russia.
Even the MPs who initially decided to publicly the war have fallen silent. In the first days of hostilities, five parliamentarians condemned the Russian aggression. But in April, when the "Proekt" correspondent called all the "dissenting" MPs, they refused to discuss their anti-war statements. When asked why the "dissenting" deputies had fallen silent, a federal official sneered: "There are none who are against it. It's just that someone spoke inaccurately.
Otherwise, everyone always supported it." The interlocutor, close to the leadership of the United Russia party, clarifies: 'preventive talks' were held with those who hesitated. During the hostilities, "Proekt" spoke to a dozen interlocutors - officials and contractors of the Kremlin - and they all stated that they do not understand what goals Russia is pursuing in Ukraine. Also, the interlocutors of the journalists admitted: chaos and confusion reign in everything related to the conduct of the so-called "special operation," from propaganda to sending troops to Ukraine.
The American news company "Bloomberg" previously wrote that Vladimir Putin had made the decision to start a war against Ukraine with a handful of people, and as the offensive began, his circle of advisers narrowed even more; he does not listen to the arguments "against." https://news.yahoo.com/putin-did-not-even-warn-122551741.html |

Obafavour: It all started from NATO, their aim is to split russia society and ultimately destroy it when US and russia both annexed, funny. Russia invaded ukraine because of the desire to join NATO and NATO is unfriendly to russia, russia knw what they're capable of doing, she took quick step like US did to iraq becos of WMD. Another objectives is to protect his people subjected to the eight years of bullying and genocide of ukraine government and which they can't deny. Imagine the assumptions you just dropped Just conspiracy So invading to steal land will reduce it abi? Is it the NATO that denied Ukraine entrance or their President have even said they won’t join again? Cook up another propaganda please At least USA do not lie to anyone when they want to join a conflict Unlike Russia that lies and denies the obvious always |

Obafavour: That's of no point. Russia invaded ukraine the same reason US invaded afghanistan, lybia, iraq, iran and so on. Another objective is to make ukraine stay in a neutral status. Crimea belong to russia until it was transfered to ukraine in april 26 1954 to settle dispute. You can prove that wrong. Afgan Talibans trained sept 11 terrorists and have alliance to Osama Bin laden Gulf War - Iraq invaded Kuwait Desert storm - Terrorism and possession of WMD. What was Sadam thinking when he chased UN observation crew out of Iraq. For someone that have proven that he cant be trusted with power Libya - AU, OIC and UN pleaded with NATO to enforce a no fly Zone USA didnt Invade Iran. Iran was invaded by Iraq So tell me now, what did Ukraine do? |

Foreign Affairs › Ukraine Says It Is 'ready' If Belarus Joins Russian War Effort by sapientia(op): 5:09pm On May 04, 2022 |
KYIV (Reuters) - Kyiv will be ready if Belarus's armed forces join Russia's war effort in Ukraine, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian State Border Service said on Wednesday.Belarus, a close ally of Russia, said its military had begun large-scale drills on Wednesday to test their combat readiness and that they posed no threat to its neighbours.
"We do not rule out that the Russian Federation could at some point use the territory of Belarus, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, against Ukraine," said Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine's State Border Service.
"Therefore, we are ready," he said, adding that the border with Belarus had been strengthened since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24.
Russia launched the invasion after holding joint drills with Belarus which had allowed it to move more forces closer to the border with Ukraine.
Areas of Ukraine adjacent to Belarus came under Russian assault in the initial stage of the invasion but Russian attacks are now focused on Ukraine's eastern and southeastern regions.
Demchenko said Ukraine had also reinforced its border with the Russia-backed region of Transdniestria, where tensions have been rising since local authorities said it was subject to a series of attacks.
Ukrainian officials have expressed concern about the situation in Transdniestria, and condemned what it said were Russian attempts to drag the region into Russia's war against Ukraine. Moscow has also voiced concern and said it is following events in Transdniestria closely.
Kent Logsdon, the U.S. ambassador to Moldova, said on Wednesday Russia's invasion of Ukraine and what he described as its attempts to redraw the map of Europe at gunpoint were a cause of great concern around the world.
But he told a conference in Moldova that Washington had no evidence that Moscow wanted to extend the war to Moldova and said Russian President Vladimir Putin would lose the war, Moldovan media reported. https://news.yahoo.com/ukraine-says-ready-belarus-joins-102438980.htmlhttps://english.alarabiya.net/News/world/2022/05/04/Ukraine-says-it-is-ready-if-Belarus-joins-Russian-war-efforthttps://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2022-05-04/ukraine-says-it-is-ready-if-belarus-joins-russian-war-effort |

Valentyna Romanenko - Tuesday, 3 May 2022, 00:10 On Monday, 2 May, Ukrainian Air Defence destroyed eight aggressors' drones, one of which is worth $7 million.Yurii Ihnat, Air Force Command spokesman, on Facebook Quote: "The aggressors' manned aircraft did not actually enter the range of Ukrainian Air Defence on 2 May. Instead, the enemy continues to launch missile strikes and to increase the presence of unmanned aerial vehicles in Ukrainian airspace, which provide targeting instructions to artillery, carry out air reconnaissance and fire correction. On 2 May, the Air Defence of the Air Force and the Land Forces shot down eight aerial targets - one 'Forpost' and seven 'Orlan-10' UAVs. It is worth noting that the 'Forpost' drone, shot down by the antiaircraft missile troops unit of 'Pivden' (South) Task Force, is an expensive device valued at $7 million. This is a licensed Israeli copy of the 'Searcher' UAV (its basic version is capable of reconnaissance at altitudes up to 5 km for 16 hours with a range of up to 400 km - ed.). According to the aggressors' Ministry of Defence, in 2019 all the parts of this UAV underwent import substitution, Russian software was installed and it could carry weapons - a container with an ATGM missile. Well, as you may have guessed, it is 'unique'!" Details: The Air Force Command spokesman stressed that Ukrainian Air Force aircraft has continued to fight the aggressors from the air, using various types of weaponry, inflicting powerful strikes at the invaders' positions, convoys, logistics and manpower https://news.yahoo.com/ukrainian-air-defence-destroy-8-211003871.html |
