Sports / Mauritania Vs Angola: AFCON 2023 (2 - 3) On 20th January 2024 by Sauter: 11:11pm On Jan 18
Mauritania will be out for nothing else but a win here to boost their chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds. A second successive defeat will see Amir Abdou’s men eliminated with a game to spare. The Lions of Chinguetti were defeated 1-0 on matchday one by Burkina Faso. It was a disappointing defeat as a late penalty converted in stoppage time undid the work they had done to frustrate the Burkinabe. Mauritania, who have never qualified from their AFCON group in two appearances, haven’t won in five outings. They have lost three times in this stretch and have managed just one goal. Angola and Mauritania competed in the group stages of the 2019 edition and battled to a 0-0 draw.

Angola did not win their tournament opener but did fare better than Mauritania and avoided defeat. The Palancas Negras impressively held Algeria, one of the favourites for the tournament, to a 1-1 draw. A penalty with about 20 minutes to go from Mabululu saw Pedro Goncalves’ men come from behind to secure the point. The result should have them buoyed coming into this match. A win for the Southern African nation could leave them needing just one point from their final group game to qualify. Angola play Burkina Faso to conclude the group. The Antelopes, who are two-time AFCON quarterfinalists, have failed to reach the knockout rounds in each of their last three continental appearances. Angola have drawn their last six games and four have ended 0-0.

Algeria will square off against Burkina Faso at the Stade Bouaké in the second group stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 (AFCON) on Saturday.

Algeria, the 2019 champions, were held to a 1-1 draw by Angola in their campaign opener as their winless run at the AFCON extended to four games. Baghdad Bounedjah broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, assisted by Youcef Belaïli. Bounedjah almost doubled the lead for his side but his outrageous overhead strike was ruled out after the player was flagged offside.

Angola came back stronger in the second half and their persistence was rewarded in the 68th minute as substitute Mabululu converted from the penalty spot to level the scores.

Burkina Faso left it late against Mauritania in their campaign opener with Bertrand Traoré scoring the match-winner in the sixth minute of added time. They were awarded a penalty following a VAR check and the Aston Villa striker made no mistake in converting from the spot.

Sports / Senegal Vs Cameroon: AFCON 2023 (3 - 1) On 19th January 2024 by Sauter: 9:55pm On Jan 18
Reigning champions Senegal will square off against Cameroon at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in their second group-stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 (AFCON) on Friday.

The 2021 winners got their title defense underway with a comfortable 3-0 win over the Gambia. Pape Gueye broke the deadlock in the fourth minute with Sadio Mane providing the assist.

The Gambia's Ebou Adams was sent off in the first half, after a VAR check, which overturned the original decision from a yellow card to a red card. The reigning champions made the most of their numerical advantage and Lamine Camara bagged a brace in the second half.

Cameroon, the five-time champions at the AFCON, finished third in the previous edition but had a slow start to their campaign playing a 1-1 draw against Guinea. Mohamed Bayo opened the scoring in the 10th minute to give Guinea an early lead but François Kamano was sent off in the first half, reducing them to 10 men for the second half.

The numerical advantage came in hand for the 2017 champions as Frank Magri equalized in the 51st minute with Georges-Kévin N'Koudou bagging the assist.

Guinea will face Gambia at the Stade de Yamoussoukro on Friday in another round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage.

The National Elephants kicked off their Nations Cup campaign against Cameroon on Monday, playing out a 1-1 draw against the Indomitable Lions. They took an early lead in the game with Mohamed Bayo slotting home from close range before team captain Francois Kamano's dismissal was followed by a second-half leveler from their opponents.

Guinea sit third in their group with one point from an obtainable three. They will be looking to pick up their first win of the tournament this weekend.

Gambia, meanwhile, were beaten 3-0 by Senegal in their group opener earlier in the week. They found themselves a goal down just four minutes after kick-off and a man down at the break before conceding another two goals in the second half to cap an overall uninspiring performance.

The Scorpions sit rock-bottom in Group C with zero points and will find themselves out of the tournament should they lose on Friday.

Cape Verde will square off against Mozambique at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in a crucial group-stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 (AFCON) on Friday.

Cape Verde kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 win over four-time champions Ghana. Jamiro Monteiro opened the scoring in the 17th minute and Ghana had a goal overruled after a VAR check in the 37th minute.

Alexander Djiku pulled Ghana level in the 56th minute and his performance throughout the match helped him take home the man of the match award. His heroics were undone in injury time by substitute Garry Rodrigues, who scored the match-winner for the island nation.

Mozambique were held to a 2-2 draw by 2021 finalists Egypt in their campaign opener. Mostafa Mohamed gave Egypt an early lead in the second half but the Mambas produced a remarkable comeback performance in the second half as goals from Witi and Clesio Bauque three minutes apart helped them take the lead.

Mohamed Salah, who had assisted Mostafa's second-minute goal, rescued a point for the seven-time winners from the penalty spot in the seventh minute of injury time.

Equatorial Guinea will face Guinea-Bissau at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara on Thursday in another round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage.

The Elephants kicked off their continental campaign against Nigeria on Sunday afternoon, playing out a 1-1 draw against the Super Eagles. They took the lead in the first half via an Iban Salvador strike before their opponents leveled the scores minutes later.

Equatorial Guinea sit second in their group with one point from an obtainable three and will be looking to continue their good performances when they play this week.

Guinea-Bissau were in action a day earlier, facing tournament hosts Ivory Coast in their group opener which they lost 2-0. They found themselves a goal down just four minutes after kickoff before their opponents punished an error from Opa Sangate to double their advantage early after the restart.

The Djurtus sit rock-bottom in Group A with zero points. They remain without a win in the Nations Cup and will be desperate to end that streak this week.

Egypt will square off against Ghana at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in their second group-stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 (AFCON) on Thursday.

Egypt, the runners-up from the previous edition and record champions, did not have the start they were hoping for to the tournament as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Mozambique in their campaign opener.

They took the lead in the second minute thanks to Mostafa Mohamed's goal, assisted by in-form forward Mohamed Salah. Mozambique returned with vigor after the break and overturned the deficit as they scored twice in three minutes in the second half.

The seven-time winners got a lucky break late in the match as they were awarded a penalty in injury time. Salah made no mistakes in converting from the spot as he rescued a point for his team.

Ghana, four-time champions in the competition, lost 2-1 to Cape Verde, in what can be considered an upset in this edition of the AFCON. Alexander Djiku equalized for them in the 56th minute thanks to Jordan Ayew's assist but Garry Rodrigues bagged an injury-time winner for Cape Verde.

This is a must-win match for Ghana while the 2021 runners-up also need a win to ensure a top-two finish in the Group B table.

DR Congo will face Zambia at the Laurent Pokou Stadium on Wednesday in the opening round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Leopards are set to make their return to the Africa Cup of Nations this week after missing out on the previous edition in Cameroon. They were beaten 2-1 by Burkina Faso in a friendly clash between the two teams last week, finding themselves two goals down at the break before Olympique Marseille's Chancel Mbemba halved the deficit in the second half.

DR Congo were beaten 2-0 by Uganda in their last AFCON group opener and will be hoping for a positive start this time around.

Zambia, meanwhile, last appeared in the continental showpiece back in 2015 and will be looking to mark their return with a win.

Like their opponents, they were in action last week facing Cameroon at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in a friendly clash which ended 1-1. Leicester City's Patson Daka scored the opener before their opponents leveled the scores midway through the first half.

Sports / Morocco Vs Tanzania : AFCON 2023 (3 - 0) On 17th January 2024 by Sauter: 8:16pm On Jan 16

Morocco will square off against Tanzania at the Stade de San Pédro in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign opener on Wednesday.

Morocco are the top African team in the FIFA rankings (13) and, having finished fourth at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they are strong favorites. They have won the AFCON just once, with that triumph coming in 1976.

They met eventual finalists Egypt in the 2019 AFCON quarter-finals, suffering a 2-1 loss. Sofiane Boufal had opened the scoring in the seventh minute to give his team the lead but Egypt recorded a comeback win thanks to Mohamed Salah's second-half equalizer and Trézéguet's winner in extra time.

Tanzania are playing in the AFCON for just the third time and are back in the tournament after 2019, having failed to qualify in the previous edition. They met Egypt in a friendly earlier this month, suffering a 2-0 loss.

Morocco are unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions, recording four wins, including a 3-1 triumph over Sierra Leone in a friendly last week. Youssef En-Nesyri bagged a brace and Boufal was also on the scoresheet in the first half.

This will be the first encounter between Burkina Faso and Mauritania at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
Burkina Faso are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Mauritania in all competitions (W2 D2). Mauritania’s last victory was in September 2018, it was a CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier (2-0) played on home soil, in Nouakchott.
This is Burkina Faso’s 13th appearance in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations. In their previous 12 participations, they have either been eliminated in the group stages (8 times) or at least reached the semi-finals (4 times), including the final in 2013 (0-1 v Nigeria).
Burkina Faso have never won their opening match at a CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament (D5 L7).
Burkina Faso have scored in each of their last 14 matches at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations; it’s the longest active streak and second longest in the history of the tournament after Egypt found the net in 27 consecutive matches between 1957 and 1980.
This is Mauritania’s 3rd appearance at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, all of them taking place since 2019. They have finished bottom of their group in each of their two previous participations.
Mauritania have never won a match at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (D2 L4). They have also never been ahead at any point in a game at AFCON.
Mauritania’s only goal so far at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations was a penalty by Hacen against Mali in their first ever AFCON match back in 2019. Since then, Mauritania haven’t found the net in 468 minutes of play at the tournament (nearly 8 hours).
Burkina Faso striker Dango Ouattara was directly involved in 63% of his team’s goals during the qualifiers for this year’s CAF Africa Cup of Nations, scoring four and assisting one.
The duo of Aboubakar Kamara and Hemeya Tanjy scored 56% of Mauritania’s goals in the qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (3 and 2 goals respectively, out of a total of 9 team goals and excluding the goal scored in the game that was later awarded to DR Congo).

The Group D contest will take place at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake, Ivory Coast.

The two-time winners get underway against Angola in Bouake, having eased past the likes of Burundi in warm-up friendlies led by their star players that include former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and AC Milan's Ismael Bennacer, among others.

2006 World Cup qualifiers Angola are making their ninth appearance at AFCON and their first since 2019, when they were eliminated at the group stage.

They reached the quarter-finals in successive tournaments in 2008 and 2010, hosting the latter, but will likely be competing with Mauritania to avoid bottom spot this time around.

Milan midfielder Bennacer is back for Algeria in a huge boost following knee surgery that kept him out from May until December, with the likes of Mahrez, Roma's Houssem Aouar, Islam Slimani, Ramy Bensebaini, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Nabil Bentaleb and Sofiane Feghouli among the regulars in Djamel Belmadi's squad.

Union SG's Mohamed Amoura and Fares Chaibi of Eintracht Frankurt are lesser-known talents that could shine at this tournament. West Ham's Said Benrahma is among the most notable absentees, meanwhile.

Pedro Goncalves' Angola are crucially without Fiorentina forward M’bala Nzola, who has decided to snub the AFCON call-up due to family reasons having been included in the preliminary group.

The match will take place at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.

Cameroon were hosts two years ago and finished third on home soil, losing to Egypt on penalties in the semi-finals before then coming out on top in a shootout when they beat Burkina Faso in the third-place play-off.

Guinea impressed in holding Senegal to a draw and reaching the knockout stages, and since 1998 have only once failed to make it out of their group when qualifying for the tournament.

Cameroon are without Bryan Mbeumo, after the Brentford star had ankle surgery last month to rule him out of the tournament.

It remains to be seen whether goalkeeper Andre Onana is available, after it was decided he would play for Manchester United against Tottenham and then immediately fly out just 24 hours before his country's opener.

Guinea have concerns over Serhou Guirassy's fitness, after the striker came off against Nigeria with a thigh issue. Those concerns have been downplayed, but he continues to be monitored.

Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is expected to lead his country out.

Senegal vs Gambia is scheduled for a 3pm
The match will take place at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.

Defending champions Senegal get their Africa Cup of Nations campaign up and running against Gambia.

A penalty-shootout win over Egypt in the final two years ago saw Senegal lift the AFCON trophy for the first time, and they are one of the favourites to do so again and defend their crown.

A fast start is important in Group C, with Cameroon next up for Senegal, but Gambia will be eyeing an opening shock. They reached the quarter-finals in 2022, beating Tunisia and Guinea, also in Group C, on their way to the last-eight.

However, Gambia suffered defeats to Burundi and Ivory Coast at the end of last year, making a poor start to their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Ghana and Cape Verde are facing each other for the second time at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations. Their only previous meeting saw Ghana win 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2013 edition.

● This is Ghana’s 24th appearance in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, the most after Egypt (26) and Côte d’Ivoire (25). The Black Stars won the Africa Cup of Nations in four of their first seven appearances (1963, 1965, 1978, 1982) but have won none of their subsequent 16.

● Ghana have won only one of their last nine matches at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (D4 L4), a 2-0 group stage victory against Guinea-Bissau in 2019. They were knocked out in the group stages of the last AFCON.

● This is Cape Verde’s fourth appearance at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, with all four taking place since 2013. Six of their 11 matches at the tournament so far have ended in a draw, with their two wins taking place against Angola in 2013 (2-1) and Ethiopia in 2022 (1-0), both in the group stages.

● Cape Verde have qualified from the AFCON group stages on two previous occasions (2013, 2021) but have never won a game in the knockout phase of the competition. In fact, they have lost only one of their nine group matches (W2 D6), it was against Burkina Faso in January 2022 (0-1).

● Cape Verde have never lost their opening match at a CAF Africa Cup of Nations (W1 D2).

● Only one of Cape Verde’s 11 previous games at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations has produced more than two goals.

● Cape Verde’s eight goals in the qualifiers for this year’s CAF Africa Cup of Nations were all scored by eight different players.

● Mohammed Kudus was directly involved in 50% of Ghana’s goals in the qualifiers for this year’s tournament, scoring three times and assisting one (4/cool.

● If he plays, this will be André Ayew’s eighth CAF Africa Cup of Nations, which will equal the record held by Cameroon’s Rigobert Song and Egypt’s Ahmed Hassan. Meanwhile, if he scores for Ghana, he will set a new record of having found the net in seven different AFCON tournaments.

This will be the fourth encounter between Egypt and Mozambique at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations. The previous three meetings all produced a 2-0 group stage victory for Egypt in 1986, 1998 and 2010.

● Mozambique have been drawn in the same group as Egypt for the fourth time in five appearances at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations. Including their opener in Abidjan, 31% of Mozambique’s matches at the tournament have taken place against the Pharaohs.

● This is Egypt’s 26th appearance at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, a record in the history of the tournament. They have won it seven times – more than any other side – and have also reached the final in five of their last six participations.

● Egypt have lost only one of their last 19 group matches at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (W14 D4); it was a 1-0 defeat against Nigeria in the 2021 edition, which also happens to be the only goal the Pharaohs have conceded in their last 11 group games.

● The last time Egypt lost an AFCON group game by more than one goal was over 30 years ago, in the 1990 edition against hosts Algeria (0-2).

● Egypt have won eight of their 10 matches in 2023 in all competitions (D1 L1), their only defeat coming against Tunisia in a friendly last September (1-3).

● This is Mozambique’s 5th appearance at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, their first since 2010. They have finished bottom of their group in each of their four previous participations.

● Mozambique have won none of their 12 previous matches at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (D2 L10). Only Benin (14) have played more matches at the tournament without ever registering a single win.

● Coming into this year’s CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Mozambique have failed to score in 75% of their AFCON matches (9 out of 12), the highest ratio among any team to have played at least 10 matches at the tournament.

● Among the 24 teams that will feature in Côte d'Ivoire, none posted a lower goal difference during the qualifying campaign than Mozambique (-1).

● Since his debut in the competition in 2017, Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in 64% of Egypt’s goals at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (6 goals + 3 assists, out of a team total of 14 goals).

Sports / Nigeria Vs Sierra Leone: AFCON Qualifier (3 - 2) On 18th June 2023 by Sauter: 3:38pm On Jun 13, 2023
The AFCON qualifier will take place at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia, Liberia.

The head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has already released his 23-man team to face Sierra Leone.

Nigeria previously defeated the Leon Stars in 2022, coming back from a goal down to win 2-1.

The 2013 AFCON Champions will be expected to do the same when they go to Liberia to confront John Keister’s troops.

Nigeria currently sits on top of Group A with 9 points from four matches.

Behind the Super Eagles are Guinea-Bissau in second position with 9 points from four matches, Sierra Leone in third position with 5 points from four matches, while Sao Tome and Principe sit bottom of the table with 1 point from four matches.

Peseiro’s side, who have already resumed camp on June 11 to prepare for the AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone slated to hold on June 18, only need just a point from the game to seal a place in Cote d’Ivoire 2023.

The kick-off time for Sierra Leone vs Nigeria is 5 pm.

Politics / Georgina Onuoha Calls Out Chioma Chukwuka Over Election by Sauter: 9:22pm On Feb 26, 2023
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE WRITE UP.

I know many may wonder why I am posting this now or speaking about it now after four years. Well today’s situation was a reminder of how she mocked others privately and minimized their sufferings. But she felt the need to scream today because she was directly affected.
You do not only show bravery or compassion or empathy only when it affects you directly.
.
So this is Chioma screaming at the top of her lungs 🫁 😂😂.

I hope she is safe. I wish her well and I pray her vote counts. That being said this same Person Chioma had the temerity 4 years ago to tell me that my post will create riots and that the election was safe and free.

Meanwhile Monalisa @monalisacode posted videos of people being killed in her hometown of Rivers State and was calling on security agents to intervene.

There were various videos of thugs attacking people and carting away with ballot boxes. If you all remember vividly, one thug in Okota was almost killed by voters in Lagos when he tried snatching ballots.

While I was posting those updates, Chioma Chukwu felt the need to tell me to stop. That I have a brand to protect and that I should say the election was peaceful.

She will never forget my responses to her and she unfollowed me and I blocked her as well. It is incumbent to end friendships with people who lack or sell their integrity and dignity for a few personal gains, I cut you off.

Many of our celebrities are compromised. They are all about their brands and stomach infrastructure.
Fast forward today, here she is shouting like a cow for her safety.

And I bet the last four years have not favored her hence the change of heart.

I am glad she had this experience today but came out safe. I wish her well and I hope she learns from this experience that you can not be in bed with the devil and have the moral authority to call it out.

When you see injustice in society, Call it out. Don’t sugar quote it. Don’t only scream when it affects you directly. Scream when it affects others as well.

So Chioma I forgive your ineptitude of 4 years ago and I wish you well. Incase you can’t see this I hope someone delivers this message to you.
