The first thing that occured to you is to build a house in the village where you don't live. If your parents are near homeless, you should have built a small affordable 2-bedroom bungalow for them.

I think you got your priorities wrong. It seems your plan is that your employer would let you live rent free in Lagos forever and that formed the center point of your financial decisions.

If you keep entangling your financial decisions with your parent's emotional blackmail, you will probably end up in the village driving Keke. By the way, your job can go anytime as well and it may take awhile to get another one. I hope you have backup funds in case of the unknown.

What's even the point of building in a village? You plan to rent it out or what? Why not build in an area/city where you can get payments in the form of rent and then use that fund to maintain your accommodation in Lagos?

490k is a lot of money. Do yourself a lot of good and rent an apartment in Ajah since its closer to work and you won't need to deal with the 3rd mainland traffic.

This is not true please. 2 bedroom in games village off bode Thomas is 700k. Get the number of several agents or go there yourself and find out. I have surulere, isolo and Ago rents knowledge first hand so that figure they quoted for you isn't true.

Get a house in Surulere or Yaba, it is close to VI. Besides there is no longer traffic in Lagos. You have stayed too long in your host house despite the fact that you earn well. You didn't have to wait until they ask you to leave.

Yaba and Surulere rent is in the same range as Ajah. I will still have to pay a million plus to get a miniflat there.

Good evening house.

I am in a dilemma and I need advice on what to do.

A bit of background about myself: I am a 29 years only child from a very poor background. I work for an IT firm which i joined in 2019 as a graduate trainee.

My total income is around 490k (400k from main job, 90k from a writing side gig).

My challenge:
Recently, My host have told me to look for my accommodation and I have been searching for houses. Unfortunately, the places closer to my places of work is expensive.

I work in VI and the cheapest mini flat I have seen in close vicinity is 1.2M at Ajah.

I also have have a building project I am undertaking in the village that is at roofing stage and my parents have been pressuring me to settle down as the only child.

My dilemma is this, If i go for the house at Ajah, it will eat a bulk of my savings, thereby making it impossible for me to complete the building project or even start the process of settling down.

If I go for a cheaper but farer location, I will be spending more time in traffic.

Please, how do I manage this?
