Five contracts renewedRoger Bogunyà

Carles Puyol has become the fifth player that has had his contract renewed by FC Barcelona since the summer as the club looks to keep some of the key players in the squad happy.

Four of those five players have been products of the club’s youth academy with Puyol following Víctor Valdés, Pedro and Lionel Messi into penning new deals. Touré Yaya has also had his future secured with a renewed contract at Camp Nou.

All ages

Pedro has risen to prominence in recent months and has been rewarded to show that the club are maintaining their youth production policy. At 22 the forward is one end of the spectrum while Puyol, at 31, is signing a deal that will ensure that he remains a one club man throughout his career. Valdés, aged 27, Touré, aged 26, and Messi, 22, all have many more also left at the club.

Every area

With the goalkeeper having signed until 2014, Messi signed up until 2016 and now Puyol until 2013 the long-term future in almost every position is secure as Touré and Pedro make up the numbers in midfield and on the flanks.

It will be harder than Mestalla”Edgar Fornós

FC Barcelona midfielder, Touré Yaya, has warned in his press conference that the game against Rubin Kazan will be “a more difficult game than the one at Mestalla because we don’t know the opposition and that could cause problems.”

FC Barcelona and Rubin Kazan are set to meet for the first time in their history, and Touré Yaya explained that “not knowing the opposition means we have a problem when it comes to Rubin Kazan. I am sure it will be a harder game than we had in Mestalla and we will be well focused because they could be dangerous”.

Two vital games

Barça face Rubin Kazan twice in a row in the Champions League and the Ivorian considers these will be “two very complicated games both home and away. At the Camp Nou we have to win at all costs and then in theory we will have a certain advantage, because it will be really complicated there because of the low temperatures. But I still think we have the squad to get a win at their ground”.

“African Nations Cup should be in summer”

Ever since he arrived from Monaco, Touré Yaya has been fully committed to FC Barcelona. Asked about the African Nations Cup that is coming up in January, Touré once again showed his implication for the cause. “Last year I got into a situation and tried to stay here but it was impossible to convince the president of my country. It is a complicated situation for African players that play for big European clubs because we want to help our teams at such a key moment of the season. The African Nations Cup should be played in the summer, once club competitions have finished, like they do with the European Championship.”

but i believe we wil still beat them, even if is the first time no hard feeling.

Hi my guys.

i hope every body is preparing 4 our todays victory.

Keita: “The team played with their hearts”www.fcbarcelona.cat

Seydou Keita was happy with the draw at Mestalla and expects a difficult game against Rubin Kazan.

After training at the Ciutat Esportiva, one of Pep Guardiola’s most used defenders spoke to the media: Seydou Keita. On the draw in Valencia he said “they were a very difficult opponent, especially after the internationals … the important thing is that the team played with their hearts and went out for the win”.

Valdés and Messi

Keita was full of praise for Víctor Valdés, who was superb against Valencia. “If a goalkeeper doesn’t have work to do, that means the team is playing well, but there are also games like yesterday’s. He was very good.” He also spoke about Leo Messi. “It’s only normal for players to have their off days, the whole team was missing something, but I’m sure he’ll be one of our most important players”.

Back to Champions League

He hopes the team can get its touch back for the Champions League game with Rubin Kazan. “It won’t be an easy game” he said. “They will come to the Camp Nou to defend like they all do, and we’ll have to go out strong to create chances and score.” Keita didn’t train in Sant Joan Despí today due to a minor injury suffered yesterday, but assured listeners that “I took a knock, but it was nothing important”.

Barca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on the way

Puyol about to equal Rexach Marc Guillén

The FC Barcelona captain is just one point away from becoming the player to have made the third highest number of appearances for FCB, equalling Carles Rexach’s tally of 452 games.

Two weeks after celebrating 10 years in the first team , Carles Puyol is about to make further FC Barcelona history by catching up with Rexach in the ranking of games played.

Second in European games

Against Rubin Kazan, Puyol will become the third most used player in Barça history, although when it comes to European games, he is already ranked second. Top of that list is Xavi Hernandez (113), followed by Puyol (104) and Migueli is third(85).

Less seasons, more games

Because there are now so many more games, it means players can clock up such numbers much quicker than they did in the past. In 10 seasons with the first team, Carles Puyol is set to equal Rexach, who was here for 14 seasons (1967-81). Top of the list is Migueli, who spent a colossal 16 seasons at FC Barcelona (1973-89).

Most used centre back

Carles Puyol has only missed one game this season and is the most commonly used centre back, with 997 minutes. He is followed by Piqué, with 925 minutes. The only game Puyol has sat out was the one against Atlético Madrid.

Ranking of official matches

1. Migueli 548 games
2. Xavi 486 games
3. Rexach 452 games
4. Puyol 451 games
5. Amor 421 games
6. Zubizarreta 410 games
7. Segarra 402 games

All 18 available players named for Rubin Kazan www.fcbarcelona.cat

Josep Guardiola has picked the same players that travelled to Valencia, the 18 that are fit, for Tuesday’s game at the Camp Nou against Rubin Kazan.

New competition, same faces. Three days after the 0-0 draw at Mestalla, in their seventh league outing, FC Barcelona return to the Champions League to face their group rivals Rubin Kazan.

To do so, Pep is using the same set of players that faced Valencia. Milito, who came out for training and joined some of the activities, and also Henry and Chygrynskiy, who worked out in the gym and just came out with a fitness coach for a short while, are still recovering from injuries.

Last session

The squad appeared on the Camp Nou turf on schedule, at 18.00, for the second to last training session before they face Russian League champions Rubin Kazan. The players went through the usual warm up drills, and the atmosphere among the squad was as positive as ever.

Positional play and shots on goal

They then worked on positions, with two players taking pivotal roles in an exercise designed to fine-tune attacking plays. It was only at this point that Josep Guardiola arrived, for he had been busy attending to the media in the Camp Nou pressroom. The session ended with shooting practice.

Staying at Hotel La Florida

Like he did for the game with Dynamo, once training was done, Guardiola led his players off to Hotel La Florida, where they will stay the night together. On Tuesday morning, FC Barcelona will be back at the Camp Nou for a 12.00 session. Then they will return to the hotel until kick off time.

Barca must dominate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 sure
