Phones / The Nokia 3310 Is Back !!!! by scopio04(m): 3:03pm On Feb 27, 2017
Just like the rumor-vine predicted, HMD didn't skip on the opportunity to ride the nostalgia wave and reincarnate the legendary Nokia 3310 for a second go on the 2017 mobile scene. We are sure opinions will be polarized on the EUR 49 feature-phone, but that definitely fits into the whole idea.

Whether you find it unsightly, or enjoy its colorful and playful looks, the new 3310 will definitely get fans talking, even if not necessarily buying. Again, as far as design goes, you will just have to judge for yourself. The new 3310 measure only 115.6 x 51 x 12.8 mm and is plastic all around. HMD claims it did the best it can to recreate the original 3310 rounded shape and silhouette. The rounded buttons on the retro keypad definitely hit home. However, the 2.4-inch QVGA display and the curved and polarized layer on top, do look a bit off. So do the buttons on the front.

Still, we have to say the four available color options: Warm Red (Glossy), Dark Blue (Matte), Yellow (Glossy), Grey (Matte), all seem to be so vibrant that they jump off the screen. Other specs on the retro wonder include an undisclosed processor and RAM configuration and 16MB of on-board storage. Mind you, a large portion of that will be taken up by the OS and apps, so you might want to fill up the microSD slot, capable of holding up to 32GB of storage.

Speaking of which, the 3310 is a featurephone and runs on the Nokia Series 30+ OS. HMD has also styled the UI with some throwbacks to the original. You do get an Opera browser out of the box, but you will have to limit your browsing to 2G speeds, since GSM 900/1800 MHz is all the 3310 supports No Wi-Fi. And if that's not enough of a retro blast for you, Snake is back! Well, it has been slightly updated and colored-in for 2017. But other than that, it is classic Snake.

Circling back to specs, since there are a few more to mention, there is a 3.5mm jack on the unit, oddly listed as an "AV connector". We presume it's a mistake, since we don't really see the new 3310 as being capable of outputting a video stream. Still you can connect a headset and listed to the FM radio or MP3. You can also be hip and use the Bluetooth 3.0 radio with SLAM support.

And according to HMD, you should be good for quite some time of music playback, up to 51 hours, to be exact. The removable 1200 mAh battery on the 3310 is also rated for up to 31 days of stand-by, 22 hours of talking and 39 hours of FM radio fun. Last, but not least, there is a 2MP camera on the back, with a single LED flash.

Phones / Here's A 24K Gold-plated Iphone 7 by scopio04(m): 11:54am On Sep 20, 2016
The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus duo is now already available in the countries from the first wave of availability with the rest of the world following next week. Sure enough, luxury customization studio Karalux out of Vietnam has started offering its usual 24K gold-plating service for those who find Apple's color options somewhat lacking... exclusivity.

24K gold-plated iPhone 7 and & Plus by Karalux

The gold-plating process takes between 6 and 8 hours through 20 different stages. To protect the precious metal from scratches, a final nano-coating is applied on top. You can further customize the look of your gold iPhone with a laser engraving of you name, logo, or signature.

Prices start at $1,900 (Roughly 855,000 naira) for a 32GB iPhone 7, the 128GB version goes for $2,400 (Roughly 1,080,000 naira), while the 256GB top-model is $2,600 (Roughly 1,175,000). Add $100 to each of these prices if you prefer the iPhone 7 Plus.

Mind you, those are the basic gold-plated models, if there can even be such a thing. If you want to go completely bonkers, you can order a 24K dragon and a diamond encrusted logo on the back. That'll cost you, obviously - a dragon-clad 128GB iPhone 7 has a price tag of $4,000, with $500 more for the Plus. Hehehe for this recession, we go soon hear First Nigerian to buy it. Na wetin ipeople sabi nahhhhh cool grin grin

Computers / World First 1 Terebyte SD Card by scopio04(m): 11:23am On Sep 20, 2016
If you didn't know, the capacity of flash cards doubles about every two years. You can call that Peter's law (in my name smiley.

In early 2011, Lexar unveiled the first 128GB SD card, then in late 2012 the first 256GB card. SanDisk took the lead in late 2014 with the first 512GB card and now it's doubling the max capacity again.

For now, it's just a prototype - there's no launch or price yet. But the SanDisk Extreme PRO will store a whopping 1TB of data. This comes merely 16 years after their first 64MB (MEGA-byte) SD card.

This card is aimed at the growing number of 4K cameras, 360° cameras for VR and also anticipates the launch of 8K cameras. Well, that may be some way out, but cameras are already moving to 4K @ 60fps, which will eat up even more storage and 6K seems to be on the horizon too.

Again, this card is a prototype and it's not clear how long it will be until SanDisk brings it to market. Also, there's no pricing info, but the 512GB SanDisk SD card launched at $800, so start mentally preparing yourself for that kind of price. Two years later, that card is just $275, though.

Sidenote: If you're wondering why the source link begins with "Western Digital presents", it's because WD recently bought SanDisk for a cool $19 billion. It's a way for the HDD maker to move into flash storage. shocked shocked grin grin
