DICKSON MAKES CASE FOR STRONGER WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNANCE

THE Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, has made a strong case for women participation in the governance of the country.

Dickson warned that a society which fails to prepare women for frontline position in leadership is on the lane to destruction.

According to a press statement, by his Chief Press Secretary, Francis Ottah Agbo, the Governor spoke at the 2017 National Women Summit organized by the wife of the Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Florence Ajimobi in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The Governor said that the women deserved a special place in leadership in view of their contributions to leadership through support to their husbands in political positions.

He challenged the women not to relent in the positive roles they have played and to ensure participation in the pursuit of worthy causes in he society.

He said, “For those of us who have been in the political trenches for years or for some decades now, we understand perhaps a lot more than many the vital role that women and particularly our wives play in our careers .

“I am here to support the great works of Dr. Florence Ajimobi; to lend support to a worthy cause, any state, even a political party that doesn’t position women correctly; any organization that does not position women for frontline position is doomed.”

“Seated here, these wives are people who have almost cooked and served all the people around their husbands in their state. For some of them, they have lost their privacy, their time; no political leader can claim to have succeeded without the support of the woman behind him.

“Truly, without their support, we won’t be here doing the kind of work we are doing.

“Let me say this for the sake of our country, for the sake of our future, that all of us who are in Leadership positions, take seriously the issue of giving support to our women.

mainstream issues of women rights, create the enabling environment for the empowerment of women as well as take seriously the issue of women in politics and leadership positions.

“And when a number of people talk, they talk as if the women do not include their sisters, their mothers. They think it doesn’t include their own daughters. You only need to think of your daughters, your mother, your sisters, to know the importance of supporting women mean to the future of our country.

“I believe that with all the little contributions that we have all been making from our little corners of our country, we are almost at a new dawn, when the women of this country will offer leadership and direction.

“We are at a critical junction and I want to use this opportunity to encourage women not to lose hope but to keep pushing on, to keep fighting in support of worthy causes.”

In attendance at the events are the governors of Lagos, Osun, the host Governor, Oyo, wives of 21 state governors and the Seniour Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora Matters, Hon. Abike Dabir, Sen. Jewel Howard-Taylor, wife of former Liberian President, Charles Taylor, Dr. Joice Mujuru, former Vice President òf Zimbabwe among others.

Nairaland GeneralWhy Novermber Salary Is Being Delayed-bayelsa Government by Seaportal(op): 2:35am On Dec 06, 2017
WHY NOVEMBER SALARY IS BEING DELAYED - BAYELSA GOVERNMENT.

....STATE YET TO RECEIVE NOVEMBER ALLOCATION, PARIS CLUB REFUND

Bayelsa State Government has said the Federal Ministry of Finance has not released the monthly federal allocation for November 2017 to the state as well as the expected Paris Club debt refund.

A press release signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, stated that the funds due to state governments have not been released because of the failure of the Federal Government to hold the crucial meeting of the Federal Accounts and Allocation Committee for the month of November.

Iworiso-Markson explained that the non-release of the funds was responsible for the delay in the payment of the salaries of workers for the month of November.

The commissioner assured workers in the state that the state government would ensure a prompt payment of the salaries as soon as the funds are released.

“It has become important to explain to our workers why the salary for the month of November has not been paid.

“The Federal Ministry of Finance did not hold the usual FAAC meeting that should precede the release of funds to states and local governments.

“The failure of the government to convene the meeting has culminated in the failure of the Federal Government to release the November allocations to Bayelsa and her entitlements in the Paris Club debt refund.

“However, Bayelsa workers are assured of the government’s commitment to ensure that their salaries are paid as soon as the awaited funds are received.” He said.
