Religion / The Dangers Of Leaning On Your Own Understanding by topshore(f): 5:52pm On Sep 05, 2023
Scripture Text: Proverbs 3:5-6

I've heard God's voice so clearly so many times that I learned to trust what He told me, and it always came true.

But I also know what it's like to not understand what He's saying. There have been a lot of times when I thought I heard the Lord's voice, but nothing ever happened. It didn't work out.

Many people who follow God have been through what I'm talking about. Other voices come from inside us to confuse us. These voices are so clear and sweet, but they say nothing. You may have thought that the Lord told you certain things about people, events, and situations, but they didn't turn out the way you thought they would.

In fact, you may have been frustrated and confused for a while because so many things didn't work out. Maybe you went through a hard time when it came to hearing God's words, and you wondered if you had ever heard it at all.
Many people have prayed to Him:

"Lord, why am I hearing so many wrong voices? Why can't I hear You clearly? I was so sure it was Your voice, but it wasn't! In fact, often things have turned out the exact opposite of what I thought You'd told me. After walking all these years so sure, I don't think I know Your voice anymore. What's going on?"

In fact, this is happening to me right now, and the Holy Spirit was kind enough to tell me that I have let my own thoughts and plans take over. He told me in a whisper that though this is not where God wants me to stop, He wants me to learn something out of this situation to make my life more beautiful. He plans something better for me, and I need to let Him take me there. God can never be wrong! The Holy Spirit told me to talk about this subject, and I'm glad He led me to the right source.

The Bible says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. Honour Him in everything you do, and He will guide your steps" (Proverbs 3:5).
The Lord knows that our own way of thinking is wrong, that we are selfish and only care about ourselves. It doesn't matter that we've been reborn and had the blood of Christ put on our hearts. Our thinking is still not good!
God has said, "My ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Some of the dangers of relying on your own knowledge—World Challenge Org.

1. Most of the confusion about hearing God's voice comes from putting our trust in our own understanding.
There is a lot of confusion in the church about how to hear and know God's words. People say "The Lord told me..." and "The Lord said..." everywhere you go, but very little of what they say is really from God.
Many Christians do something I think is very dangerous: they want quick answers, but they don't know that getting to know God's words takes a lot of time and getting close to Him. It takes honest soul-searching so that God's will is the only thing on your mind. But they don't want to spend time alone with God and let go of themselves.

Instead, they spend time thinking. They clear their minds, putting them in neutral, and become passive. And that empty, passive mind is easy for the flesh and the devil to control. Satan can come in and say anything he wants there.

When these lazy Christians hear something, they don't put it to the test with God's Spirit or His Word. They haven't learned how to recognise His voice, so they think that anything that comes to mind is from God.

Our knowledge of the world can come to us as a clear-speaking angel of light. But it is our flesh, which pretends to be God.

In 2 Kings 7, when Elisha was in a place called Samaria that was suffering from a famine, the Lord sent him a message. There was no more food or water. Things had gotten so bad that two mothers had become cannibals and agreed to eat each other's children!

Elisha then stood up and spoke a prophecy in front of the king and the people:
"A measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel tomorrow around this time, and two measures of barley will be sold for a shekel in the gate of Samaria" (2 Kings 7:1).

That was God speaking! But the word was too offensive for the officer of the royal court who was in charge of the city gate. Barley and flour that don't cost much? Were these to appear overnight, when there was nothing else in sight, not even a cup of grain?
The gatekeeper's common sense kicked in, and he said, "Look, if the Lord were to put windows in heaven, could this be?" (v. 2). In other words, "For this prophecy to come true, God would have to open the heavens and make it rain grain on us. That's impossible!"
Often, when God speaks to us, what He says is so wonderful, amazing, and life-saving that we can't take it all in! So our flesh—our human understanding—rises up and starts to speak. Instead of resting and putting our trust in what He says, we start to rely on what we think. We ask, "How could this ever happen? It's not possible from a human point of view!" Suddenly, we've set limits for God and hemmed Him in on all sides.

Beloved, our human understanding of God will always be limited! God told Sarah, who was an old woman, that she would have a child and become the mother of many countries. What a wonderful, amazing word! But Sarah's common sense told her, "I can't be a mother at 100. My womb is dead, and my husband is old. It's impossible!" She laughed at the idea.

Has God ever told you something that didn't make sense? Did you believe Him and trust that He would do what was best? Or did you laugh at the idea and rely on what you knew and what was going on around you instead of His Word?

Dear saint, you need to believe what God has told you again. You shouldn't forget what He told you, because it once gave you life. God is even bigger than the promise He gave you. He is smarter than everything you've heard so far!

In fact, it makes Him happy to let His saints into heaven. He is in the business of sending wonders and making things happen that can't be done. "Test me now with this," says Malachi 3:10, "and see if I won't open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing so great that there won't be enough room to hold it."

2. When we rely on what we think we know, we make bad judgements about other Christians.
Paul said, "We are sure that God's judgement against those who do such things is true" (Romans 2:2).
God judges based on what's in a person's heart, but people judge based on what they see and their own flawed, human knowledge. And Christians are so quick to judge other Christians wrong. Most of it is cruel, bad, and totally pointless.

Many have done this before. A young woman came to a pastor's office for help a few years ago. Her eyes were full of darkness. Her voice was quiet and flat. The pastor's first thought was, "She's a lesbian. Her eyes look evil and ominous. He'd seen this look before. She must have done something very wrong to have this look!"
But this pastor started was crying inside within five minutes because he realised how wrong he had been about her. He had been judging her by how she looked, but her dark eyes showed that she had been through a lot of hard times. She was a prayer warrior who believed in God and had never done anything sexual. Christ was her husband. He felt so embarrassed!

A young woman preached about Jesus to a man who take dangerous drugs. As she was praying for him the Holy Spirit told her that the man had only few days to live. Meanwhile, this man already had a dream that his family members were attending his funeral. He was so desperate when  he got home that he fell on the floor of his living room and cried out, "Oh God, I'm helpless against this hellish crack. It's overwhelming me! If You're real and what she says is true, You have to show Yourself to me. Please help me!"
Suddenly, there was a lot of light in the room. He knew it was out of this world! He could feel God's presence all around him. When the light went out, he knew he had to go back to his room, but he didn't want to see those burning strange symbols anymore. So, he chose to hang pictures on the walls where the symbols had been.
He took a nail in each hand and picked up a hammer. When he looked down at the nail holes in his palms, he heard Jesus say, "My nail-scarred hands give you power over your addiction. Trust Me; it's no longer your battle, because I've already won it at the Cross. You can be free!"
His urge to use crack was taken away right away. And for the past two years, that young man has been growing in his faith by going to our church. What an amazing thing to say about God!
A few months later, this same man was walking by a pub without a roof when he felt a strong urge to go in. But it wasn't a desire for something physical. He told me, "I knew it wasn't the devil, so I went in. I thought, "What am I doing here? God can't be like this!"'
A young performer sat down next to him and said, "You don't look like you fit here. They started talking because she said, "You're different." He set up a time to meet the lady performer outside, and they went for a walk. He told her about how Jesus had set him free from crack, and they talked for a while. The lady "I hate what I'm broke down and confessed she didn't enjoy her job at the pub but took the job because she was broke and had no other way to make a living. She did quit, and she gave her heart to the Lord. Soon after, she and the young man got married, and now they go to church and are on fire for God.

One could relate the story of this young man to prophet Hosea's:
"The Lord told Hosea, 'Go, take a wife of adultery and children of adultery.'" "Love a woman who is loved by her friend but is an adulteress" (Hosea 1:1, 3:1). In other words, God was telling him to go find a harlot and marry her."This girl wasn't a harlot, but she was in a place where harlotry is common. There went my whole opinion!

How true it is that God's ways are higher than ours and that we can't figure out what they are.

Paul tells us, "Why do you pass judgement on your brother? or, why do you ignore your brother? Because we will all stand before Christ's judgement seat... So, each of us will have to answer to God for who we are" (Romans 14:10, 12).
Paul is telling them, "It's hard enough for you to judge your own heart. Stop thinking about everyone else's problems!"
I don't want to stand before Christ's judgement seat and cringe as I see people I misjudged being called to Him as His chosen. I have thought of many saints, "There's something about his spirit that doesn't witness with me. I don't feel comfortable around her!"But when God opens the books and judges me, what will He say about the fact that I trusted my own judgements, which were based on human fears and wrong conclusions.

The Scribes and Pharisees got everything wrong about Jesus.

They said that the Son of God liked to drink a lot of wine and go to parties, and that he was working with the devil.

Christ knew how blinding this kind of judging could be, so He said, "Judge not by what you see, but by what is right" (John 7:24).

We are to judge with righteous judgement, not the thought of our flesh. When God shows us something, we are to think about it in our hearts and pray about it.

God does give some people a strong sense of insight. Those who are close to Jesus know by His Spirit, "when evil is present in someone, it registers in their spiritual mind."

But the gift of discernment should never be used to tell others about their sin or ruin their image. Doing so makes the one with the gift a worse sinner than the one with an evil spirit!

"All women have a natural intuition," I've heard. A woman once told me, "I'm never wrong! When I'm around a fake, I always feel like an alarm is going off.
I'm sorry, but I don't buy that. The Bible says, "Don't trust it; it's just your own human understanding!""

Jesus asked, "Does our law judge anyone before it hears what he does?" (John 7:51) This means that we shouldn't judge someone before we get to know them, talk to them, and find out what they're about.

"Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. " This is another warning from Jesus that really gets to me. For the way you judge will be the way you are judged, and the way you measure will be the way it is measured back to you" (Matthew 7:1-2).

When you question someone else's faith and sincerity, someone else will do the same to you. You can be sure that you'll get what you give out.

3. When we rely on our own understanding, we get a wrong idea of how God works in our lives.

Right now, a lot of God's best workers are going through very hard tests and trials. Maybe you're one of them, and you're being overwhelmed by sudden troubles, fiery trials, and incredibly stressful times. Your trial could be spiritual, financial, or emotional.

Maybe as you've been reading this message, you've come to believe that you're under God's anger and rod of correction. You keep thinking, "You're going through this because you've failed God!" You're in the fire of trouble because He gave you to the devil to teach you a lesson."

Beloved, you shouldn't trust your own understanding when you're going through fire or water. You can't reason your way out of hard times. Your own thoughts about your tests will trick you.
What does God's Word say about the problems you're facing right now?

The writer of Psalm 66 said, "This is all God's doing! He has a reason for putting you through this trial. This is not the work of the devil; God is testing you."

No matter what you're going through, you can be sure that the Lord is behind it—He's testing you. He's testing you to bring out something beautiful in you—a complete trust in His trustworthiness.

But then the psalmist says, "Thou broughtest us into the net; Thou laidt affliction on our loins" (verse 11). He says that God led you into the net and put this heavy burden on you. He is the one who weighed you down.

"Thou hast made men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water" (v. 12). God let people walk over you and take advantage of you. The Lord let you go through fire and water. It's all God working in you.

Our logic tells us, "The devil is trying to kill me! He has made me suffer and given me a lot to do. He is trying to sink my ship."

But from cover to cover, the Bible makes it clear that all of our purgings and tests come from the Father and not from Satan. "And I will turn my hand on you and purely purge away all of your dross and take away all of your tin" (Isaiah 1:25).

God tells us, "Do not think it strange about the fiery trial that is to try you, as if something strange had happened to you, but rejoice" (1 Peter 4:12-13).

Dear saint, stop trying to figure out why you have to go through hard times. Stop asking God, "Why do I have to go through this?""Leave your human thoughts behind and rest in this: "God is doing something in me. God is at work here!"

You may not like the testing you're going through, and it may seem overwhelming. But God has never left you alone in your testing, even when you feel like you've failed Him.

The person who wrote Psalm 66:9 said, "He holds our soul in life and doesn't let our feet move." He meant, "God is holding my soul in His life!" He won't let me lose my balance. He is keeping me steady until this is all over."

He came out of his trial with a strong faith and said, "Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I'll tell you what He's done for my life" (v. 16). This means, "Gather around! I've been saved in a great way. I want to talk about how great God has been to me."

"Thou broughtest us out into a wealthy [fruitful] place" (verse 12) is the testimony of those who don't panic but believe God through it all.

Beloved, don't listen to what your fears tell you. Stop trying to figure out what's going on and just stand still, trust, and watch God work.

He'll get you out of it and put you in an excellent place, and you'll be on fire with praise for how true your God is! Hallelujah!

If you would like to give your life to Christ just say this short prayer:

"Lord Jesus Christ I come to You now, forgive me my sins, come into my life, take control of my life and change my world. I say bye-bye to the devil, I enter into the Kingdom of Light. Thank You Jesus, in Jesus name I pray, amen!

Congratulations!!!

God bless you!

Peace!!!

Politics / Re: CBN Counters JP Morgan, Says Estimate Of Nigeria’s Net FX Reserves ‘misleading’ by Reference(m): 7:09pm On Aug 24, 2023

SMH. The CBN....'has tried as much as possible to be transparent..'

Can you imagine such talk.
This is the root of the CBN's problem. It's activities are shrouded in secrecy, muddled in politics and compromised by vested interests.

It is more of a personal piggy bank for the privileged than an institution of national economic regulation.

It has a long way, a very long way to go even with a renewed management and noble intentions.

Nigerians must wake up and start to advocate for the total, the absolute independence of the Central Bank of Nigeria particularly from ALL political interference.

It is not a parastatal of government and should not be in cahoots with government on monetary matters. It is a regulator, not a player.

It should regain the respect like its contemporaries the world over, not seen, hardly heard, but who's effect is felt.

Business / How To Start A Shoe Business – Simple Strategies Work Fast by mikelewis012: 7:07pm On Aug 17, 2023
It is a good idea to sell shoes online for those people who want to establish their own business. Therefore, you will have to open a shoe store for selling these things. Also, you can easily find suppliers.
And you will be happy to read that starting a shoe business does not require so much money. As we know that selling food items or fancy things like wine and cheese need a huge amount of money. For a general estimation, you can assume that a $5,000 to $10,000 budget is needed for opening a shoe store.
For a successful business, one must make a plan first about it. Find out what kind of audience you can target easily. The shoe audience is divided into many segments like women’s fashion and sports, men’s fashion and sports, kids' wear, seniors, etc. Moreover, you can mix them up. For instance, if you are willing to sell sports shoes for women, then you can increase your customer base by offering sports shoes for men and kids as well. Hence, this strategy will give you many customers.

How Much Does It Cost To Start A Shoe Business

Figure out your starting money. This covers things like rent, getting your space ready (if needed), getting things to sell like shelves and tables to show stuff, a security system, the machine where you get paid, extra things like socks and shoelaces, and stuff for your office.
To figure out your starting money, check the cost of renting a place nearby. For instance, in Houston, renting can be $17 to $24 for each square foot, as seen on City Feet.com. Then, ask sellers how little you can buy when you begin. If you need shelves and stuff, ask someone who knows about renting stores. To know your office things' cost, check online or visit a store.
However, besides starting a new shoe-selling business, you can also earn money by opening a shoe-reselling business.

Choose Your Business Model

The most crucial decision to make when starting a shoe company – what will your structure be? Three ways to run a shoe business:
Ownership of Production: You design and make the shoes, controlling much of the process. This assures quality and customization. But it needs careful planning, funding, space, skills, and people.
Wholesale: The store buys shoes in big numbers from a maker, storing them and selling them bit by bit. This needs space, handling goods, and business insurance.
Dropshipping and Print on Demand: Start without big costs. You're in the middle between the maker and the customer. Focus on design and marketing. The maker deals with making and sending shoes after someone orders from your store online.
In addition to this, you can also start a custom shoe business. All details are mentioned on the link, where you can read it.

Get the Licenses & Business Registration

Check if your state or city needs a license for businesses or stores. Moreover, you can take help from your state department of official government desk. Ask them about starting a shoe business required a license or not. Similarly, you can also contact your local city or town authority.
According to Power Home Biz.com, a store that doesn't have a license could get big fines. You'll need a group of papers and licenses to start your shoe company. Below you can find some type of organization for your shoe business. choose any of them according to your business model.
Private Limited Company
One Person Company
Partnership
Sole Proprietorship
LLP

Set Up Important Accounts

Business Accounts
You will need to have a business account right after opening a shoe store. Because this account will manage your transaction and related information. Moreover, you can take help from a professional to learn the process and open a business account.
Business Insurance
Just like how you need a license and permits, having the right business insurance is also important to run your business safely and legally. Plus, it helps if something bad happens and you have losses.
Store Location & Layout
Find a good place for your store. It should be easy to get to and where lots of people go. Start-Up Biz Hub says a spot with lots of parking and close to clothing stores is good. Make a list of places and call the person who rents them. Most stores for rent use a "NNN" or "Triple net" deal – that means you pay for how much space you use and some upkeep and taxes.
Picking the right spot can help your brand get known faster. Plus, your business can grow more since it's easy for most customers to find. Also, make sure your store looks nice and friendly. For example, have enough seats, lights, and mirrors so customers can try on shoes easily.
Packaging & Distribution
Make your brand better with a cool special box. Besides making shoes, you will need to pack and then ship them to your customers as well. Find a supplier who is working with good box makers who make great custom shoe boxes with tops and bottoms. These boxes have magnets and are made with nice paper. All we need is the design for the box and your logo to make the boxes.
Hiring
Hiring is a very important step for any business. Because staff will help you to grow your business effectively. Moreover, all the tasks cannot be performed by you. So your workers can assist you and they are like the face of your brand. They're the first ones customers will talk to. Plus, how they act can affect if customers buy things. They should be able to give good ideas and answer questions.
Go Social
Lastly, make a website or social page for your shoe business on the internet. This can also help you set up your online shoe store. A website is a good way to show and sell shoes. Plus, it helps customers find what they want and shop online. In the end, tell people about your business. Pick a lucky day to start. Have a nice opening party and try to get in the news. Then, begin your shoe business journey and succeed. Starting a shoe business online will give you more audience exposure and more sales in the end.
Can We Start A Shoe Business from Home?
Yes, you can utilize the opportunity to start a shoe business from home. Furthermore, you can save your money on many expenditures like renting a shoe store and other utility bills.

Health / Risk Management Tools In Healthcare - Driving Patients To Safety by universalatest: 9:27am On Aug 15, 2023
Hello there,

Let's talk about healthcare, a domain where we constantly strive to balance between state-of-the-art care provision and patient safety. It's no secret that the healthcare sector is a complex and challenging environment, where the slightest of errors can have profound consequences. Today, I'm setting the spotlight on the innovative risk management tools in healthcare that are driving patient safety forward. Visit us here for more insights: "Safe Qual".

Now, you might ask, why all this focus on risk management in healthcare? Well, simply put, it's because we care. We care about the well-being of each patient, the integrity of our healthcare system, and the overall betterment of our society. And when it comes to expressing this care, clinical risk management tools play a pivotal role. So, keep learning with me as I take you through the intricacies of clinical risk management and the novel tools that are reshaping the way we manage risks in healthcare.

Understanding Risk Management in Healthcare

In the simplest terms, clinical risk management is the application of special procedures and methods to prevent, minimize, and manage risks that can harm patients' safety during healthcare provision. Think of it as the system in place to foresee potential pitfalls and difficulties that could jeopardize the health and well-being of patients, and devise strategies to counteract them.

Risk management is crucial in healthcare for a variety of reasons.

Firstly, it directly impacts the quality of patient care. By identifying potential risks, healthcare providers can mitigate them, leading to fewer adverse events. This not only improves patient outcomes but also boosts the level of patient satisfaction.
Secondly, it contributes to the efficient use of resources. With effective risk management, healthcare organizations can prevent costly mishaps, ensuring resources are utilized in the best possible way to provide high-quality care.
Thirdly, it protects healthcare providers from legal and financial repercussions that can occur due to clinical errors.

Now that we have a clear understanding of what clinical risk management is and why it's a crucial part of healthcare, we're ready to explore how the landscape of risk management has evolved over the years, and how innovative risk management tools are helping healthcare professionals to provide safer care to their patients.

The Evolution of Risk Management Tools in Healthcare

To appreciate the journey of healthcare risk management, we need to take a glimpse at its past. Traditionally, risk management relied heavily on manual practices: paper-based reporting systems, face-to-face meetings, and time-consuming reviews of medical records. While these methods had their merits, they were often tedious, prone to human error, and lacked the ability to quickly respond to potential risks.

As with many other sectors, the technological revolution did not leave healthcare untouched. The advent of technology heralded a paradigm shift, leading to the evolution of risk management tools. Over time, the field has shifted from being reactive - only responding to adverse events - to proactive - anticipating and mitigating potential risks.

The emergence of innovative risk management tools has transformed the landscape of healthcare risk management. The integration of artificial intelligence, big data, and predictive analytics, among other advanced technologies, has allowed healthcare providers to gain insights into potential risks faster and more accurately. These tools provide real-time data, automate routine tasks, facilitate communication, and most importantly, enhance patient safety.

But you might wonder, how exactly are these innovative tools helping to ensure patient safety? Let’s discuss this below.

One key player in the field of risk management tools in healthcare is Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI has the ability to sort through vast amounts of data quickly and accurately. It can identify patterns and predict potential risks that may otherwise be missed. AI systems can help healthcare providers make informed decisions by offering insights into patient health trends, drug interactions, and potential complications.
Next in line are predictive analytics tools. These are essentially statistical techniques that analyze current and historical data to make predictions about the future. In the realm of healthcare, predictive analytics can forecast patient health risks and help clinicians intervene earlier. This way, we can prevent adverse events even before they occur, enhancing overall patient safety.
Another great tool is telemedicine. Though primarily seen as a method to provide healthcare services remotely, telemedicine has enormous potential in risk management. It allows for continuous monitoring of patients, helping clinicians to quickly identify and manage any health risks. Moreover, it reduces the risk of infections and other complications associated with hospital stays.
Lastly, Electronic Health Records (EHRs) have revolutionized risk management in healthcare. They enable the efficient collection, storage, and analysis of patient health information. With EHRs, healthcare providers can readily access a patient's comprehensive medical history, aiding in better decision-making and minimizing the risk of medical errors.

These are just a few examples of the many innovative risk management tools in healthcare. Their utilization has not only optimized the process of risk identification and mitigation but also greatly contributed to patient safety. But don't just take my word for it. Let's move on to some real-life examples where these tools have been successfully implemented to improve patient safety.

Examples of Innovative Risk Management

One noteworthy instance is the implementation of AI in the Johns Hopkins Hospital system. They used a predictive analytics tool powered by AI to predict patients at risk of sepsis, a life-threatening condition. The system analyzed multiple variables in real time and alerted the healthcare team if a patient's condition was likely to deteriorate. This early detection led to timely interventions, saving numerous lives and truly demonstrating the power of AI in risk management.
On another front, a community hospital in rural Nebraska made a groundbreaking shift by implementing telemedicine to manage potential health risks. This allowed them to continuously monitor their chronic disease patients remotely. Any irregularities in health parameters triggered alerts to healthcare professionals who could promptly intervene. This drastically reduced hospital readmissions and enhanced the quality of life for these patients.
Meanwhile, the Mayo Clinic, a renowned healthcare institution, leveraged the power of EHRs to enhance patient safety. They developed a sophisticated EHR system that not only recorded patients' health information but also used predictive algorithms to identify potential risks, such as adverse drug interactions or signs of deteriorating health. This innovation dramatically improved patient safety by preventing potential adverse events.

These real-world examples give us a glimpse into the massive potential that innovative risk management tools hold in the realm of patient safety. However, like all good things, these tools come with their own set of challenges and limitations.

Challenges and Limitations of Innovative Risk Management Tools

Now, despite their remarkable advantages, these tools are not without their hurdles.

One significant challenge is cost. Innovative risk management tools often require a substantial initial investment, which can be prohibitive for smaller healthcare organizations or those with tight budgets.
Data privacy is another area of concern. The use of AI, predictive analytics, and EHRs involves handling large volumes of sensitive patient data. Ensuring this data remains secure and confidential is vital, yet can be challenging, given the increasing incidents of cyberattacks in healthcare.
Resistance to change can also pose a challenge. Healthcare providers may be hesitant to adopt new technologies due to unfamiliarity or skepticism about their effectiveness. Overcoming this resistance requires continuous training and education to demonstrate the benefits of these tools and how to use them effectively.

In terms of limitations, one important thing to remember is that these tools are just that: tools. They are meant to aid healthcare providers, not replace them. No matter how advanced these technologies become, they cannot replicate human intuition, judgment, and the personal touch that forms the heart of patient care.

So, while these innovative risk management tools in healthcare hold great promise, it's essential to navigate their challenges and limitations carefully. But don't let these obstacles deter us. The future of risk management in healthcare is brighter than ever, and we're about to see why.

The Future of Risk Management in Healthcare

In an industry as dynamic as healthcare, the only constant is change. The future of risk management in healthcare holds numerous exciting possibilities. With the rapid advancements in technology, the tools we discussed earlier are set to become even more sophisticated, offering even deeper insights into risk prediction and mitigation. You might like to read this: "Clinical Risk Management - Understanding Medico Perspectives".

AI and predictive analytics, for instance, are likely to evolve to manage more complex tasks. The application of AI could expand into areas like personalized medicine, where it can help identify potential risks based on a patient's unique genetic makeup and lifestyle factors. Predictive analytics could grow more refined, offering even more accurate forecasts of patient health risks.

Telemedicine is also likely to gain even more traction, particularly given the shift towards remote healthcare spurred by recent global events. More sophisticated remote monitoring devices could be developed, offering real-time patient data and reducing the risk of adverse health events.

Similarly, EHRs are expected to become more comprehensive and user-friendly, integrating seamlessly with other healthcare IT systems to provide a holistic view of a patient's health, further improving decision-making and risk management.

In essence, the future of risk management in healthcare looks incredibly promising. But no matter how the tools and technologies evolve, the ultimate goal will remain the same: enhancing patient safety.

Conclusion

As we conclude this blog post today, let's take a moment to revisit the key takeaways.

Clinical risk management is a cornerstone of healthcare, aiming to prevent, mitigate, and manage potential risks to enhance patient safety. In recent years, the advent of innovative risk management tools in healthcare, such as AI, predictive analytics, telemedicine, and EHRs, has revolutionized the field, offering real-time data, predictive capabilities, and efficient communication.
While the benefits are significant, we should also be mindful of the challenges and limitations that come with these innovative tools, like cost, data privacy issues, and the potential resistance to change. Yet, with the right strategies and continued commitment to patient safety, these hurdles can be navigated successfully.
Looking ahead, the future of risk management in healthcare is promising. As technology advances, so too will our tools and techniques for managing clinical risks, constantly reshaping the healthcare landscape and driving patient safety forward.

The journey through the landscape of clinical risk management and its innovative tools has been enlightening, hasn't it? But remember, the journey doesn't end here. In healthcare, we're continually learning, evolving, and improving. Together, let's continue to explore, innovate, and ensure the highest standard of patient safety.

Business / How To Raise Money For A New Business In Nigeria by realonebizschl: 2:41am On Aug 15, 2023
Why seek funding?

If you have big plans for the future, you may need additional funding for business growth. This might be for something as simple as boosting production, or a step as ambitious as buying another company. It may even be simply to improve your cash flow. Whatever your goals, there are various ways to source the necessary finance, each with its own pros and cons.

Whatever kind of funding you seek, it is vital to have a very strong business pitch. The more strongly you can communicate your business's prospects, the more likely you are to get investment.

Different sources of business funding

There are a number of different ways you can raise finance for your business, but they divide broadly into two types: borrow money to be repaid later, or sell equity shares in your company. You will however find a variety of funding options within each type, and the most appropriate for you will be determined by your circumstances, such as:

the size of your company
how much money you need
the nature of your growth plans
how much control you want to keep

Your borrowing options may include:

Bank loans
Peer-to-peer funding (e.g. Ratesetter, Funding Circle, Zopa)

Your investor options may include:

Angel investors
Venture capital
Crowdfunding

Borrow from the bank

Almost all high street banks offer small business loans, generally between £1,000 and £50,000 and with relatively flexible repayment terms. Securing a loan can be a challenge, rather like getting a mortgage but even more so, as you need to demonstrate that you are a good investment and will be able to repay. A watertight business plan is a must (with figures and forecasts built into it by your accountant), along with a very clear strategy for how you will use the funding.

If you are seeking funding to buy a business, make your bank aware of the assets you’ll be buying, as these can strengthen your application (since you’ll be borrowing against them). Just remember to include liabilities too.

Peer-to-peer finance

Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending matches up smaller-scale investors with small businesses looking for funds, cutting out the middleman. You apply online, and get a loan drawn from cash pooled by savers looking for a better return on their money. This type of finance is easy and simple to apply for, and you can borrow as little as £1,000 or as much as £1 million. Repaying a P2P loan is similar to repaying a bank loan, with the interest rate agreed upfront. However, if you struggle to repay then the usual rules about debt apply.

Angel investors

Angel investors are usually high-net-worth individuals who invest in early-stage businesses. It’s sometimes called ‘seed’ funding and you can generally expect to raise anything up to £1 million. Like venture capital, angel investors tend to invest in exchange for a share of the business, so they must believe in your business and in you. Often successful businesspeople in their own right, angel investors may have expertise and advice that can be as valuable as their money when it comes to growing your business.

Venture capital

The next step up from the angel investor is the venture capital (VC) firm. You might try a VC firm when you need a serious chunk of money (often in excess of £1 million) in exchange for a large percentage of your business. VC is the fundraising method of choice for high-growth start-ups, many of which go through several rounds of funding before becoming profitable. It’s a very competitive area, so you’ll need an outstanding strategy, a bulletproof business plan and a dynamite pitch – not to mention luck.

Crowdfunding

You can also raise funds online via crowdfunding. This works best with a consumer-facing business, with a product or vision that ordinary people can get behind. You put out the message that shows why your enterprise is a good investment, and a (hopefully large) number of investors each take small stake in the business. It’s essentially a digital-age version of selling shares, and has been seen to raise impressive sums – some companies have sourced over £4 million via thousands of micro-investors.

Use your own money

You can of course use your own money to fund your business, assuming you have enough. If your business is a company, then one way is to invest in share capital, by buying more shares. This has the effect of increasing the assets of the business, but will tie up your money until you sell those shares.

You can however put money into your company on a temporary basis by lending it, via your director's loan account. You can then have this money paid back to you when this becomes necessary or practicable.

Small business grants

You may be eligible for a small business grant to cover certain types of expenditure. Government grants are available for startups and other small businesses to cover things like the cost of premises, plant, machinery and IT equipment.

Each grant will have its own application process and strict qualification criteria, so there is no guarantee you will be eligible. But it is worth exploring your options, particularly if yours is a new business.

Here is where to find out about the various grants available in the different parts of the UK:

Grants in England (and wider UK): Business Finance Support Finder
Grants in Wales only: Business Grants
Grants in Scotland only: Funding opportunities

Which is right for me?

Cost and convenience aren’t the only factors when seeking funding for your business. Consider how each solution will fit into your long-term goals, and weigh up the risks of each one too.

Your main choice is whether to borrow or seek investment. Borrowing means you retain a full stake in the business, but repayments can be an ongoing burden that may slow your growth. Conversely, investment delivers a cash injection that you don’t have to repay, so growth may proceed more quickly – but you’ll have to share that growth with your shareholders. talk your strategy over with your accountant to narrow down the best options in your circumstances.

These dangers include things like fire, weather, theft, and damage. Even though the idea of renters insurance is simple, the details of plans can be overwhelming and hard to understand.

The Light: Choose Adjusters
Select Adjusters, a prominent insurance adjuster Mesa, specializes in demystifying homeowners insurance for homeowners in the area What is their job? To help homeowners find their way through the maze of insurance choices and make sure they choose wisely. Here are some of the most important tips that Select Adjusters gave to help homes figure out the puzzle:

Coverage Limits: The experts at Select Adjusters say that having the right coverage limits is very important. It is important to figure out how much it would cost to rebuild your house and buy new things if you lost everything. If you don't figure out these numbers correctly, you might not have enough insurance.

Deductibles Explained: Select Adjusters stresses that you should choose a deductible that fits your budget. The deductible is the amount you have to pay out of your own pocket before your insurance starts to pay. When you choose a bigger reserve, your premiums are often lower.

Recommendations Give You Power: Homeowners often forget how powerful recommendations, which are also called riders, can be. With these extra coverages, you can protect specific high-value things like jewelry, art, or tech. Select Adjusters tells people to talk to their insurance company about these options.

Mitigation Matters: Putting in safety features like smoke detectors, security systems, and roofs that are stronger can not only make your home safer, but could also lower your insurance premiums. Select Adjusters urges people to tell their insurance company about these changes to see if they can get a discount.

Review and Renew: Homeowners insurance is not a one-time buy, but something that changes over time. As things change and the value of your property goes up and down, it's important to check and update your insurance on a regular basis. Select Adjusters advises that you check your coverage once a year to make sure it is still complete.

The mystery of Mesa homes insurance doesn't have to be hard to figure out. With help from pros like Select Adjusters, homes can confidently make their way through the complicated world of insurance. When a homeowner knows about insurance types, coverage limits, fees, endorsements, and mitigation strategies, they can make good choices that protect their investment. Remember that homes insurance is a safety net in case something bad happens. So, taking the time to understand all of its complexities is a worthwhile investment.

Whether you're a new homeowner or have lived in Mesa for a long time, working with pros like Select Adjusters will crack the code of homeowners insurance. Your house is more than just a collection of bricks and mortar; it's a place where you can dream and remember. When you have Select Adjusters on your side, you can rest easy knowing that your safe place is protected and that the code of homes insurance is expertly broken.

Politics / Re: Obey Appeal Court, dismiss Pdp's Petition- Gov Sani To Tribunal by 9jahotblog: 9:38pm On Aug 03, 2023
garfield1:
Fireworks are expected today at the Kaduna Governorship Tribunal as Governor Uba Sani moves to terminate the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Mohammed Ashiru Isa, against his election.
The tribunal, on Monday, last week set today to hear the latest motion by the governor’s legal team led by former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, to end proceedings in the petition, based on the latest pronouncement of the Court of Appeal.

The principle of stare decisis, a Latin term that means “let the decision stand” or “to stand by things decided” makes it compelling for lower courts to line behind decisions of superior courts.

To this end, decisions of the two appellate courts; Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, are binding on election petition tribunals, where facts in cases are similar.

Sani is calling for an end to the last petition standing against his victory, by pointing to the July 18, judgment of the Court of Appeal in the case of the All Progressives Congress (APC), against Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, knocked off at the preliminary stage due to a fatal error by the petitioners, in applying for the crucial pre-hearing notice.

The Supreme Court had held in many instances that either premature or late filing of the all-important Notice, would deem the petition abandoned and terminable.

The unanimous judgment of the three-man panel headed by Justice Olubunmi Oyewole held that the appeal brought by APC’s Uche Nnaji against the dismissal of his petition at the preliminary stage wasn’t meritorious because the filing of the pre-hearing Notice out of time, had dealt the entire petition a fatal blow.

Sani said the three justices holding the petition had become abandoned by the reason of the late filing of the said Notice, adding that Justice K.M Akano-led Enugu Governorship Tribunal was right under the law, to dismiss the petition in the course of proceedings.

Oyewole in his lead judgment held that “as found by the trial Tribunal, the application for the issuance of pre-hearing notice filed by the Appellants on June 6, 2023, prior to the service of the final pleading in the petition on all the parties, was incompetent.

“Election proceedings are sui generis and the stipulated procedure must be scrupulously complied with, otherwise a defaulting Petitioner or party would only have himself to blame.

“The moment the Appellants failed to activate the issuance of pre-hearing notice within the stipulated period, they had abandoned their petition and there was nothing before the trial Tribunal upon which it could adjudicate any further.
Taboola
“This is different from objections contemplated by Paragraph 12 (5) of the First Schedule, Section 132 (7) of the Electoral Act and 285 (cool of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) in respect of which ruling would be delivered along with the final judgement.”

Oyewole went ahead to allude to Justice Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, now a senior Justice of the Supreme Court, in the case of Azudibia V INEC (2008) 4 LRECN 705 at 126 where she said, “a process filed prematurely is a mere piece of paper without any legal consequence.”

Armed with the very consequential judgment, Sani is asking the Justice Victor Oviawie-led Tribunal to revisit his earlier motion during the pre-hearing stage, that Isa and PDP had abandoned their petition and be dismissed.

Another pre-hearing motion from the governor also called for the dismissal of the petition for being filed out of time.

While the PDP petition bore official imprints of being filed at 11:45pm on the last day allowed by the extant laws, 9th of April, 2023, both the computer-generated payment evidence for the filing and the receipt issued by the Tribunal secretariat, bore 10th April, 2023, showing the petition was filed out of time.

Both receipts, showing N14,300 paid, had the name of Mr. Samuel Atung, a Silk.

Pleading an early end, Chief Ojo said “The nature of the application argued is such that could bring this Petition to an end. The Court of Appeal has recently terminated a petition based on an application that is on all fours with the one already argued by the 2nd Respondent (Sani).

In the motion referenced by the governor’s legal team, the Tribunal had said ruling would be taken alongside the final judgement in the Petition.

The APC team is contending that the latest Court of Appeal judgement had declared such wait, unnecessary, with Justice Oyewole saying an abandoned petition can be terminated at any point in the proceedings and could be suo moto, done, by the Tribunal.

In the Motion for dismissal, Chief Ojo, argued that the petition, having suffered incurable procedural error, is deemed abandoned by laws guiding petition adjudication.

He cited several legal authorities in his written address, especially decided cases of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, to show the petitioners had procedurally defaulted.

In Maku v Sule, the Supreme Court held that petitioners cannot file pre-hearing notice, either prematurely or out of time.

Where this happens, the apex court’s position is that the entire petition should be dismissed.

“In a long line of cases, it has been stated, restated and reiterated what the consequence of not applying for the issuance of Form TF007 would portend and that is the dismissal of the petition” the court had ruled.

PDP and Isa however kicked, insisting that they applied for pre-trial on 26th May, 2023 and not 16th May, 2023, adding that a competent application for the issuance of pre-hearing notice, was made.

The response, taken out by S.K Musa, SAN, said the application for dismissal, “proceeds from an erroneous assumption that the application for pre-hearing of 16th May, 2023, is the only application made by the petitioners, without considering that there was a subsequent application made at the close of proceedings.”

Relying on the established precedents, Chief Ojo however, drew the attention of the Tribunal to the petitioners’ defence, as an attempt to correct the anomaly in their filings, which according to him, also failed to regularise the defective procedure they adopted.

In the further and better affidavit, the governor’s legal team leader said: “The application dated 26th May 2023 being an attempt by the petitioners to re-open pleadings is still invalid, as there was no application or an attempt to withdraw the application dated 16 May, 2023.

“Whichever way, there is no competent application for the issuance of a pre-hearing information sheet, placed validly before this Tribunal.

“The petitioners are under an obligation to apply for the issuance of a pre-hearing information sheet within seven days after the 30th day of May, 2023.

“We submit from the judicial authorities related thereto that the sole meaning that is derivable from the provision of paragraph 18 of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, 2022 is that the application for the issuance of the pre-hearing notice can only be made upon the close of pleadings and not earlier or before.”

Kaduna: Tribunal Urges INEC To Obey Court Order, As Ashiru Applies For Arrest Warrant.

The governoship election tribunal sitting in Kaduna has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obey court order by ensuring that its subpoenaed witness appear before the court tomorrow.

This followed the aplication of the 1st and 2nd petitioners, Hon. Isa Ashiru and his party; People's Democratic Party (PDP), who sought that arrest warrant be issued on INEC due to its failure to present a witness before the tribunal today.

Though, the counsels to both the 1st (INEC), 2nd (Uba Sani) and 3rd (APC) respondents argued that the application of the Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), who is the counsel to the 1st and 2nd petitioners, Ashiru and PDP, seeking the arrest of the Residents Electoral Commissioner (REC) be declined by the court.

In their seperate arguments, the counsels added that the petitioners did not follow due process. "Before any party should talk on compliance of court order, there shall be clear evidence that the subpoenaed person had been duly served," they emphasised.

Ashiru, through his counsel explained that it is a deliberate attempt by the INEC to frustrate the order of the court, having followed the normal process. "We are urging the tribunal to vindicate the authority of the court that no any public servant played pranks on the court oder."

Upon the arguments of all counsels, the three man panel of the tribunal has directed that the subpoeaned withness of the INEC be made available at tomorrow's sitting.

Israel will build a 100 billion shekel ($27 billion) rail expansion that will connect its outlying areas to metropolitan Tel Aviv and, in the future, could provide overland links to Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.

The announcement followed a trip by top US officials to Saudi Arabia last week to advance a possible forging of formal relations between the Muslim powerhouse and Israel

A senior Israeli lawmaker said that any forging of relations with Saudi Arabia did not appear imminent, despite US President Joe Biden prediction last week of a possible rapprochement between the Middle East powers.

“I think it's too early to talk about a deal being in the works,” Yuli Edelstein, head of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and a senior member of Netanyahu’s Likud party, told Israel’s Army Radio.

Opening the weekly Israeli cabinet meeting, Netanyahu appeared to sidestep the constitutional crisis that has roiled the country for seven months, denting its economy and shaking Western allies’ confidence in its democratic health.

Instead, he promoted infrastructure initiatives including the “One Israel Project,” which he described as designed to reduce travel time by train to the country’s business and government centres to two hours or less.

“I would like to add that in the future we will also be able to transport cargo by rail from Eilat to our Mediterranean and will also be able to link Israel by train to Saudi Arabia and the Arabian peninsula,” he said in televised remarks.

“On this, too, we are working.”

Germany: Four Nigerian siblings deported despite being integrated into society

After close to a decade of living in Germany, four siblings aged between 11 and 17 were deported to their home country Nigeria in May. Their return forms part of a trend of more and more minors being deported from Germany in recent months.

A tennis racquet, a pair of soccer cleats, a bible, a pencil case -- personal items like these are all that's left of the Ovbiagele family's life in Germany.

Before their belongings were placed into a storage unit in May, police forcibly entered the apartment of Godsand, Victor, Miracolo, Victoria and their mother Bose in southern Germany on the evening of May 15.

"The police officers came into my room at night and woke me up," 11-year-old Godsand is quoted as saying in a recent article published in German news magazine Spiegel.

"I was shaking. They said: 'You will be deported. Pack your things, but only what you can manage.' We weren't allowed to talk to mommy. We were afraid. I heard Victoria cry in her room."

The next morning, the family of five found itself on a chartered flight which took them back to Nigeria from Frankfurt airport. There were 35 other deportees on board, who had been living in Austria, Luxembourg, Sweden and Germany.

Also among the passengers in the coordinated group deportation flight were a number of alleged criminals, who were seen to be chained on their hands and feet.

Reluctant new beginnings in Nigeria

Different people have tried to provide support to the Ovbiagele family since their sudden deportation; one of them is Rex Osa, a native of Nigeria who has been living in Germany for 18 years.

The refugee aid worker was waiting for the four siblings and their mother in Lagos when their plane touched down there, who described their situation as "catastrophic."

The family have since moved into a small room in Benin City, Bose Ovbiagele's hometown, with the help of Osa. However, this is only a temporary solution.

According to the Spiegel, the city of 1.5 million people is notorious for being a center of human trafficking and forced prostitution and is considered to be one of the most dangerous places in Nigeria.

The children's mother agrees with that assessment: she says she had left for Europe seeing no future for her children in Nigeria. She has been raising them on her own since her first husband died and since she separated from the second one.

Despite these many challenges in life, the siblings are now trying to start again in an unfamiliar place 4,600 kilometers away.

"I don't know if I can find friends here," 14-year-old Miracolo explains. "I don't feel safe here. There are people stealing and kidnapping people; they have guns, too."

Uncertainty for the future
For almost nine years, the family called Kempten their home -- a city located in the southern state of Bavaria, about 100 kilometers away from Munich.

The siblings attended elementary school and middle school in the town of 70,000 people, they completed internships, attended church, played in the local soccer club, and learned how to ride a bike.

"Before Germany, I cannot remember anything. We were still young. I don't know any other country," 17-year-old Victor told the Spiegel.

"I was about to get my diploma," Victor's twin sister Victoria said. "I was already in tenth grade and had completed my oral examinations. I lived in Germany for almost nine years. Was this all in vain?"

The family is still trying to fight for their return with help of Osa and a lawyer, but a final decision could take months. Until then, they have to live in fear of facing assaults, contagious diseases and, above all, uncertainty.

Little hope for a reversal of fortunes
Back in Kempten, the siblings' friends are also fighting for their return. In June, some 60 people protested in the city on their behalf with banners, saying 'Bring the Ovbiagele family back!'

However, the overall protection rate for Nigerians in Germany is low: the Ovbiagele's asylum applications were rejected all the way back in 2016 already.

As a result, for years, the family-of-five were among the around 300,000 people in Germany whose status is referred to as 'ausreisepflichtig' -- or legally obliged to leave the country.

"Receiving negative letters from the authorities breaks down your psyche," Victoria told the Spiegel.

"Deportation was always a threat we fought over a lot. It was too much for my mother."

Deportations on the rise

According to the Spiegel, the Bavarian Refugee Council had criticized the state's increasingly volatile deportation policy back in February already, highlighting that forced returns from Bavaria now appear to target families with children.

"The Interior Ministry and the foreigners' offices have become unscrupulous. The cases, in which families are getting deported into hopeless situations, are on the rise," the council stated at the time.

Almost 13,000 people were deported from Germany last year, according to Spiegel. Among them were 2,196 minors, including fully integrated school children, many of whom have little or no connection to their parents' home countries.

In many instances, their language skills in German are superior to their abilities to speak their parents' mother tongues.

Germany's need for immigration vs. reality
Germany's present deportation policy, however, is in stark contrast to the fact that the country needs immigrants rather urgently: At the end of June, the EU member state passed its new skilled labor migration law to fill the gap of an estimated 400,000 skilled workers.

Economists say, however, that even this target falls short, claiming that Germany needs a net influx of nearly 1.5 million people -- per year.

But not everyone in Germany is in favor of welcoming more foreigners: A survey from May found that one in two Germans are scared of more refugees coming to Germany. Regardless, the government has pledged to invest more into attracting workers from abroad.

This new policy, however, is of little use to the Ovbiagele family; after living in the country for a total of for nine years, Germany eventually threw them out -- shortly before they would finally become ready and able to start giving back.

Nigerians when deported always telling unpalatable stories about their country just to gain empathy. The same, check their social media status, they are probably one of those cursing the country day and night, thinking they are out for good. As long as you are not an indigene, even as a citizen, it can be revoked someday, everything you enjoy in another rman's land is subject to policy, and could be reversed, especially as Africans, unless you are highly indispensable.

Someone said they are welcome to shege....really? Not everyone are suffering in Nigeria, a good number of people are living legitimately, especially those that have invested in themselves such that have become so needed in their field of chosen career. I know few that change job like wrapper, as long as they feel less respected, and another rjob is waiting. many lack the requisite to invest in themselves, they would rather invest in alcohol and women, rather than in skills and certification.

The same Nigeria that cars are shipped in daily even with the rise of prices, houses are built daily etc. If truly they have utilised the opportunities in the abroad to broaden their scope, they should be fine back home. The truth is, many are afraid when deported because they lived like they are in final destination, as such didn't save for the raining days ahead.

A friend of mine was deported from Qatar recently, dude has invested a lot in Nigeria that he was not even afraid of coming back home. I know few who, after making a good fortune from hard work, decided it's over stressing and saying yes sir. All you need is something going to keep daily life and soul together....Few investment here and there to feed, and fill daily needs with small savings...if you are not the high-end type who wants to show off. Good house, nice car (2 for the whole family), good schools for your kids, vacation once in a while for the family and few businesses bringing in daily income, you will be fine. Naija is not that bad, most people are just too covetous, extravagant, wants to live like Adenuga, Davido lifestyle etc.

Germany is in complete shamble right now... I have German friends who have left their country looking for jobs in more stable European countries, like Sweden and Switzerland.

Hear the story one told me as recent as last week.. we had a great walk Gustav III in Skeppsbron.
'Germany is heading to a kabum...' he explains that the left & right in Germany might fight a civil war if the politics isn't gotten right in one year time. He told me a lot of hardships ethnic Germans face, and immigrants don't understand that nothing is free in Germany or Europe, that if the society gives you stipends, it's not forever and you are expected to do everything to get a job and contribute to the social welfare. In other words quickly reject the free money! That's when the system counts you as residents, but lots of our people will collect free money and just relax! Praying!

Now the reason why they are getting hard on immigrants is an interview a migrant from Syria granted.
Let me explain what he told me.

Media: How are you?
Migrant: fine thank you.
Media: how do find Germany?
Migrant:. I like it here.
Media: More than Syria?
Migrant: No. (He still believe in his sharia & his god granting him free money, but one wonders why he's not headed to Mecca where the god live).
Media: would you want to look for work or something?
Media: No, I am not educated, and I am grateful for the help I receive.

The interview like the one granted to BBC by our brother went viral. The right used it for propaganda. Here's the results!

This is a man from Syria has three wives. Lives in three bedroom flat paid for by the local council and receive 1000€ monthly. And he doesn't want to work! He doesn't pay taxes which ordinary Germans pay and go to jail for if they fail to pay.

Guess what, ethnic Germans don't get these freebies. Now tell me if you can be this tolerant. Let's try and fix our mindset. Nothing is free. If you build your country, no one else will. It starts from making sure crooks are not in power!

Just like some stupid governors sponsoring people on pilgrimage on government money that is supposed to be used to fix & clean streets!

Career / #nairalife: She’s Juggling A 9-5 With Three Virtual Assistant Gigs. But Not For by BigCabal: 12:58pm On Jul 28, 2023
If you asked the 27-year-old subject of this #NairaLife why she got into virtual assistance, she’d tell you, “Lagos traffic”. But within one year, she’s tripled her ₦210k comms specialist income juggling her job and three clients.
Now, she’s planning to leave her stable 9-5 for the unstable world of full-time virtual assistance.

What’s your earliest memory of money?
When I was in primary school, my mum would give me money to buy snacks. It wasn’t regular, though. I took homemade food to school most of the time — which I hated because all my friends had money to buy food at school. Now, I appreciate that she took the time to cook for me in the morning, but then, I didn’t understand why she wouldn’t just give me money.

I was in primary school between 2001 to 2006, and pupils who brought ₦50 to school were considered the rich kids. At the time, ₦10 rice, ₦10 spaghetti and ₦5 meat was the peak of enjoyment. But when my mum did give me money — usually ₦50 too — I didn’t spend it on actual food. I typically spent it on silly stuff like telephone juice and goody goody.

So, you were a rich kid too
We were pretty comfortable. Not like “silver-spoon” comfortable, but there was a spoon. I remember growing up in a house my dad bought. We lived in a rented apartment when I was a baby, but I have no memories of living in a home we didn’t own.

What did your parents do for money?
My dad was a lawyer, and he was the typical Nigerian father. Once he paid school fees, he was done. My mum was a housewife and was really involved with me and my younger brother. She’d take us to school and back, check our homework and make sure we had good results.

Did your dad get more involved at any point?
He did; by trying to force me to study law at the university. I didn’t want to study law because I knew I was creative —I’d been a voracious reader and writer since Primary One, and I wanted to study Mass Communication. This was in 2012.

We fought about it, but I had my mum’s support. She knew what I wanted and encouraged me to stick to it and not be a pushover. She was like, if I let someone else decide what I studied in school, at what point would I be independent?

To show my dad I was serious, I decided I’d rather write JAMB again the following year than go to school for law. At that point, he gave up and let me study what I wanted.

I got into a private university for Mass Communication and graduated in 2017. The waiting period between graduation and NYSC call-up was when I started my natural skincare business.

Was that the first thing you did for money?
Yes. Making money wasn’t the initial plan, though. Growing up, I didn’t care about what I put on my face, so I didn’t have a skincare routine. Even when I started having breakouts as a teenager, I didn’t care. All I did was bathe with Imperial Leather and rub cream. My mum was always on my case like, “Don’t you know young girls need to take care of their faces so they don’t break out and have good skin?”

That period at home after university was when I decided to research and pay attention to my skin. There was nothing else to do with the free time. I watched a lot of YouTube and found several DIY options. Then YouTubers used to recommend the most ridiculous things, like asking you to rub lemon on your face. I tried some but eventually realised that I needed more knowledge. So I paid for classes with skincare professionals — which cost about ₦17,500 in total — and found what worked. That’s where I also learned to make products properly.

In October 2017, I started posting about the business on my WhatsApp status, and my first customers were my friends and family. I did the entire production with a mortar and pestle at home. The soap was ₦1,500 when I started, and the profit was around 30% on each one I sold. But I got called up for NYSC about three weeks later.

Did you continue the business?
I literally carried it with me. I stayed in the Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) house for the entire one-year period. I couldn’t take my big mortar with me, but my mum sent a small mortar and some of the needed raw materials, and I stored them under my bed.

My business was basically marketed by word of mouth. I also started using Instagram, but it was still a work in progress. I usually had one or two orders in a month.

I also wasn’t getting an allowance from home anymore. From the moment I left for NYSC, it was, “You’re earning money now, so good luck.”

It’s a good thing you had allawee, at least
Luckily, I didn’t get posted to a school. I served with a government parastatal and was the highest-earning Corps member in the NCCF house. My stipend was ₦25k when I started the job. Three months later, they reviewed salaries, and I started earning ₦40k. There was also the NYSC ₦19,800 stipend, bringing my monthly income to ₦59,800. That’s minus the small change I got from my business once in a while.

Staying at the NCCF house meant I could save a lot of money because I didn’t pay rent. At the end of service, I’d saved ₦400k.

Nice. What did you use the money for?
I just left it in a savings account. The money is still untouched, and I don’t even have access to it.

Come again?
My mum created the account on my behalf when I was little, and she’s the signatory. I let her keep it that way even though I’m grown now — it helps me not to spend my savings anyhow. If I ever need anything, she can help me withdraw it.

Interesting. So, what did you do after NYSC?
I finished service in 2018 and came back home to Lagos. My business also started to scale up. I started getting orders from Instagram because I had more time to push what I did on social media. I went for my Masters in Marketing Communications shortly after in 2019.

What did that mean for your business?
Like during NYSC, I moved with it too. My parents paid my school and hostel fees, so I was responsible for feeding myself.

Now, I was averaging between ₦30k and ₦50k in sales from my business and paying myself a salary of ₦10k. I had to increase the price of the soap to ₦2,000 because of an increase in the price of raw materials. I also sold body scrubs, body butter and lotion, but none exceeded ₦3,500.

What were you spending on?
Mostly provisions. I also only spent one semester in school because of the pandemic in 2020. Subsequently, I finished my Masters at home and graduated in December 2020.

The job market must’ve been waiting
It stressed me for seven months. I didn’t get a job till July 2021, and I probably wouldn’t have gotten it without the help of my mum’s friend who had connections at an energy company. Although she helped me get a leg in, I still had to pass the interview. That’s how I joined the corporate communications team.

Nice. What was the pay like?
₦206k gross. ₦170k after deductions.

Not bad for a first salary
My master’s degree helped since they couldn’t put me on the same scale as a first-degree holder.

So you had 9-5 and a business. What was that like?
I started having less time for my business because of the hours I spent on the road daily. I live in Ajah, and my office is at Marina. Just imagine going through that Lekki-Epe traffic every day. I drive, and it takes me about an hour and thirty minutes to get to work on a good day. On a bad day, it starts at two hours and can be infinite.

So, about a year into my job, I stopped my business. I just couldn’t continue.

That’s tough
I lost an income source, but I live with my parents and have minimal financial responsibilities. My money is basically for me. Then, I tried to save at least ₦50k monthly in that account I don’t have access to. The only other things I spent money on were fuel — which cost me about ₦11k weekly and about ₦20k on data monthly. The rest of my money went into hanging out with friends and eating out.

How was it going at work?
I got a raise around the same time I stopped my business in 2022. A new MD came in, increased salaries, and I started earning approximately ₦210k net. That’s my current salary because I still work there. For the next couple of weeks, at least.

You’re leaving?
I’ve wanted to leave for the longest time. It’s not the money, because I know my salary isn’t bad. But the traffic and the recent increase in fuel prices mean it’s time for me to go. Before fuel subsidy removal, I budgeted ₦40k monthly for fuel. Now, it’s ₦140k.

I’m not leaving my job to be jobless, though. I’m also a virtual assistant, and I currently have three stable clients.

Wait. How did you become a virtual assistant?
This was also in 2022. I really wanted something that’d allow me to make money from home, so I went to YouTube to look for options. I saw options like affiliate marketing, which I tried for a bit and stopped after making about ₦18k in commissions within two weeks. Of the ₦18k, ₦10k was the commission from selling a course, while the 8k was from another site that paid ₦1,600 for every referral. It wasn’t sustainable.

I eventually took an interest in virtual assistance. The job description seemed simple enough: helping people with tasks, booking flights, and responding to emails and comments.

Those are things I already do at my 9-5. If I could do this from home and still earn money, why suffer myself?

I found and applied for the ALX Virtual Assistant course in May 2022. It’s discontinued now, but it was an eight-week intensive course that provided me with all I needed. The course was worth $750, but it was sponsored, so it was free for participants. I graduated at the end of July and officially launched out as a virtual assistant in August.

Did you get clients immediately?
It took me eight months to get my first client. Before then, what I did was put the word out on my social media. I let people know I was open to virtual assistant gigs, and I built my portfolio using the tasks I did during the ALX course. I expected clients to see my content and reach out to me, but it didn’t happen that way. I saw things.

Pray tell
I almost got scammed on LinkedIn once. I applied for a job on the site via the “easy apply” option and sent my CV. These people didn’t interview me. One day, I just got a random message on WhatsApp: an offer letter in a PDF file. My first thought was, “What’s going on here?”

First, the offer letter was badly written with multiple grammatical errors, and I wasn’t even sure who was hiring me. Second, there was no salary. They wanted me to “recruit” candidates for jobs, and I’d be paid based on every candidate I sourced. I just replied and said I wasn’t interested.

Another time, I found a “client” who wanted a social media manager and offered to pay ₦40k. It was low, but I thought the extra income wouldn’t hurt. I signed a contract, and we were supposed to start work, but they ghosted me for like two weeks. I had no access to the social media pages they hired me to manage, and they hardly responded to my messages. After a while, I got tired and stopped.

The ghetto. Let’s talk about your first client
I got them in March 2023 via Twitter. Someone had tweeted about her friend needing a virtual assistant, so people tagged me under the tweet. I reached out to confirm the service needed and also shared my CV and portfolio. My portfolio includes a link to a discovery call with potential clients, so we got on a call and agreed on the deliverables.

I work 15 hours a week, and she pays me ₦150k per month. She’s based in Ghana, and at first, she paid in naira through different payment channels, but we kept having conversion issues, so now she just pays in dollars, which is better for me. I take my payments biweekly, so it’s $159 every two weeks, making $318 at the end of the month. In naira, it’s about ₦222k now.

I guess the naira devaluation has…advantages
LOL. I got two more clients in June, and one of them also pays in dollars. It’s funny how I got no virtual assistance gigs for so long and then got three in quick succession. In fact, the way the third gig came was funny.

Politics / Re: FIRS Generates 5 Trillion Naira Tax In Six Months-Highest Ever by Believeintruth: 5:39pm On Jul 21, 2023
casualobserver:

Like I told you, you are an idiot

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/7/7/nigeria-on-quest-to-almost-double-tax-to-gdp-ratio-in-three-years

In countries like the UAE every company is in the tax net. The problem with NIgeria is that most people are NOT in the tax net. If you have any brains and read my post again, you will see that all NIgeria has to do is get those who are supposed to pay tax but don’t to pay tax that’s alll. I did not and never said increase peoples taxes. I said tax those who are suppose to pay taxes but don’t. M0ron!!!!

The UAE you are talking about actually tax businesses. It is because they tax businesses that income tax is zero. UAE is also a unique country because their infrastructure needs and demands are not comparable to Nigeria. The entire population of the UAE is less than half of just Lagos state. It is 5% of Nigeria’s population. The entire land mass of abudabi and dubai is less than the geographical area of just Lagos state. Most of the country is desert. Therefore the infrastructure needs are less but despite that, their tax to GPD ratio is 14%. slowpoke

Can you swear that Nigerian businesses do not pay any form of tax? Oga stop being stupid abeg you don't have any talk. Government should do the needful and become more responsible and have the balls to plug wastage and be fiscally responsible. Then plug money into the economy to stimulate small businesses, after that you can now bring them into the tax net.
